In this episode we're talking about the Art of Sales Conversations. It's all about making those chats less about 'selling' and more about connecting with and solving our clients' needs. Ready to dive in? The first step in mastering sales conversations is shifting our mindset. Sales conversations usually make us nervous right? Many photographers dread sales because it feels pushy. But here's a different way to look at it: You're not selling; you're helping. Your services provide a solution to your clients' needs, whether it's capturing their wedding day or creating lasting family portraits. When you approach sales from a place of service, the conversation naturally becomes more about the client and less about the sale. Creating appealing photography packages isn't just about putting together a list of services; it's about understanding your clients. Every client comes with a unique set of needs, expectations, and budgets. The goal here for you is to design packages that not only meet these needs but also exceed them. People part with money generally because they think they're getting more than they paid for. They're looking for value. For example, wedding clients might look for all-inclusive packages that cover everything from the engagement shoot to the reception. Meanwhile, portrait clients might prefer more basic options with the flexibility to add on product and services. The key here is versatility and customisation. By offering a range of packages, you're showing potential clients that you're ready to cater to their specific desires. How do you adopt the right mindset for creating and growing a success business? There are so many answers, I could talk about mindset matters for multiple episodes, because there's so much to say. But for today, I'll touch on just a few things. I've recently talked about manifestation and manifesting for your business. And now I want to give you a little more on mindset matters. Why? Because I speak to so many photographers who don't yet have mindset and belief systems necessary for starting and growing a successful business. So, here's a few things I want you to embrace: It's important to explore the power of positive thinking and self-belief in manifesting entrepreneurial success. Clarify Your Business Vision and define your goals. It's important to align yourself with your goals and take action. Listen to this episode to learn more... How do you manifest? There's lots of confusion about this because many people think that if I sit quietly and close my eyes and think about the thing I want. I'll get it. If I do it enough, perhaps every day for 30 days it'll happen. Well….it doesn't quite happen that way, but it's a start I guess. Manifestation isn't a hope and a dream and a prayer. I'm sorry but that's the truth. Listen to this episode to learn more... If you want to join my community or work with me..... Somebody tell me. If you have the opportunity to do what you love every single day……why wouldn't you do it? We have one precious life, and we only get one shot. You have to pay bills right? So if it's something you can be paid for, there's nothing unhealthy about that at all - it's the right thing for you. **** If you want to join my community or work with me..... Welcome to this episode where I go over that major challenge that we all face when going into business on our own. When you set up your business you are usually way outside of your comfort zone and you're managing a lot! As photographers you start out with this great, great hobby that excites you and you love every minute. Then you decide you want to set up a business doing what you love. Then boom! You find yourself in a different arena and it's filled with other photographers who have been at the job longer than you, they seem more experienced than you, and you have so much more to learn because this is now your business. When you get here, it can be totally overwhelming. There's setting up a business, there's social media, there's competition, you have to have a website, you have to charge money, you have to learn a whole new set of skills. Overwhelm is a very strong emotion and all consuming. So what are you going to do? How are you going to keep up? Sit back and have a listen to this episode. And if you haven't already joined the Facebook Group with photographers who are serious about kickstarting and growing their business, hit the link below. JOIN HERE See you on the inside! Dee x
Welcome to this episode where I go over that sensitive subject of Money. The difficulties we face when it comes to pricing to earn what we should in our businesses. Welcome to Season 4. It's been a stop start couple of years, but we're still here. And it's been a scary standing-on-the-precipice time for many who want to start a photography business but haven't. In this episode I'm gently touching on the reasons/excuses why the 'start' button isn't being pressed. As time passes, I seriously seriously want to help photographers take up the challenge to start their own photography business. I know anything is possible if you put your mind to it - as the cliche goes. And if you give it time and persevere, your dream awaits you. If you're listening and you're a photographer, not in my Facebook group and you need a little inspiration and guidance. ... join the group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/makephotographyyourbusiness Until next time. Join me in this episode (1 of 2) chatting to Birth, Lifestyle and Portrait Photographer, Korena Darnelle, from the sunny island of Barbados. She is hugely experienced and such an inspiration. She's living, breathing proof that even though imposter syndrome and confidence dips happen, you can still have a successful photography business. Just like most photographers, at the start of her business her work spanned many genres. And it was through the passage of time that she established her own identity and style. I'm sure many many photographers, particularly those who are at the start of their journey to start and grow a photography business, can relate to Korena's experiences. All I can say is, 'hang in there and trust the process, and don't stop believing in yourself'. If you're a photographer looking to start and grow a photography business, or if. you already have your business and it needs a little re-ignting, join the Facebook Group, and hang out with other photographers who are just like you. Tune in to my chat with Tom of Tomstep Coaching and hear his journey setting up and growing his coaching business. This episode, while chronicling Tom's own mindset issues, gives insight into why we coaches spend as much time as we do on mindset matters. Mindset is an area that is enormously underestimated and side-stepped by so many new business creators and small business owners. As photographers, it really doesn't matter how well we take photos, or even how well we get to grips with marketing and so forth. If we haven't dealt with the minefield of mindset matters that block our pathway to success, it makes the whole process so much more challenging that it needs to be, and it can take away the enjoyment of what we set out to do. Tom's is an amazing and inspiring story and, whilst he may not be a photographer, his story shows just how important it is to deal with mindset matters. Until next time. Dee x
Join us today talking about getting into the right headspace for success, and dealing with money blocks. I'm chatting to Nicola Doherty - Freedom Coach - about her experiences and challenges setting up and running her own coaching business. Just like photographers, Nicola has had to deal with issues around self belief, mindset matters including money mindset issues.......would people actually pay her for her services? Nicola talks about breaking through those boundaries and is thoroughly enjoying her business. You can find Nicola on instagram - @nicthefreedomcoach Until next time... Dee xx
Join me today where I address some of the common mistakes and issues photographers face when creating their own websites: - Building a website without planning can lead to inconsistencies and boredom. So grab a pen and paper and plan; and do your research and see what others are doing. Creating a website with too many genres of photography simply confuses would-be clients and you could lose out, because it's no clear to them what you do. - Having a website which isn't easy to navigate means your client could go elsewhere. That's the last thing you want. - Having a website that talks only about how great you are. Clients want to see that your service relates to them, so think about what you say, and save your 'about' page for blurb about you. - Knowing whether to show your prices or not. This is always under debate, but the choice is ultimately yours. Decide what will work best for you. - Creating a beautiful website and then leaving it out of date. Google won't like you for that and, again, you could lose out on work opportunities. So if you're thinking about creating your own website or you have one which needs refreshing, these are some of the things you need to consider. Don't afraid to be in touch if you think I can help you along. Until next time. Dee xx
Join me in this episode chatting to Natalie Frasca Surmeli - she's a free spirited coach for women. While this isn't about photography, it's about women re-igniting their power to be who they truly are, to realise their authentic selves and do what they are meant to do. This resonates with me enormously, because I spent so many years of my life trying to fit a mould and be who people expected me to be. Living a life full of frustration is what plagues so many women today, including photographers. I'm a true believer in that once you free your spirit, you can truly rise up and be YOU! The person you are meant to be, doing what you're meant to do. And for a lot of us, that's photography. If Natty hits you right in the soul, you can find her on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/tribeofwolveswithnat So if you're a woman, or a guy, looking to break free and get your photography business off the ground and moving forward, this podcast really is for you. Until next time. Dee x
Tune in to a re-run, where I'm having a chat with Profit Mentor - Annette Ferguson. I've had photographers message me about this major block which is a real struggle within their businesses. The whole subject around pricing and charging can be crippling for photography businesses (and other small businesses), but it's very very common. Annette sheds some light over the subject of money mindset, where it comes from and working through it. Have a listen and enjoy. You can find Annette on Instagram @annette_fergs and on Facebook. Also find her at www.businesswealth.co.uk Love Dee xx
Listen in to my chat with Helen, fellow wedding photographer. Helen talks about her challenges with confidence and self doubt when she was setting up her business, and the investment she made into her business to get the training she needed. She gives great advice on focussing on the genre of photography you want to do, rather than trying to do everything. It's absolutely true that 'less is more' when it comes to putting yourself out there as a professional photographer. Be inspired by Helen's story. If you're out there wondering whether or not you can do this....set up your own photography business .... you absolutely can! You've got this...until next time! Dee xx
Tune in and listen to my chat with Andrea Lee. Whilst she's not a photographer, she's a creative and her challenges are very relatable. She's a nail and beauty therapist; and after ditching her corporate life, she went after her dream. It didn't come with its mindset challenges of self doubt, imposter syndrome and of course the dreaded money mindset issues. If you're setting up your photography business, I'm sure you can relate to what Andrea's saying here on the show. She has a thriving business now, because she never gave up on her dream and believed in herself. Believing in yourself is the first of many steps towards success. Lots of love. Dee x
Tune in to listeners' questions being answered. - How to deal with the theory that 'less is more', and managing an assortment of different photography on your website - What to do about having little or no portfolio to showcase - Should you show your prices on your website And also, not forgetting my little eBook that's due out soon - in August! I can't wait to share it with you. Love Dee x
Tune in to this episode where I chat to you about the theory that 'less is more'. In photography businesses I see a common mistake with photographers wanting to put all of their work out on their website and social media, and I mean different genres of photography. I see websites with everything from a few weddings, to product photography, to landscapes, to families, to headshots. I get that feeling of wanting to show off everything in order to get work. But the truth is, showing off any and everything can be the thing that prevents you from getting work. Grab a cuppa, have a listen, take action. Until next time! Dee x
Tune in to my chat with Grant Melton, whose photography career spans decades. Grant shares his experiences, the ups and downs, and his approach to his business coming through the pandemic. You can find Grant easily on Instagram @grantmeltonphotography. What are your experiences, particularly through the pandemic? Why not have a chat with me on the show..... Until next time. Dee x

Join me chatting to Gillian Allard, winner of Sky Arts Master of Photography, about being visible on social media and feeling uncomfortable with putting herself out there. Visibility is something that Gillian has never been interested in, particularly after being on TV, but with the help of business coaching she's recognised that there are many drawbacks to NOT being visible, and that this can be just as hard as actually being visible. This coaching has helped Gillian to manage, rather than fight with, the sabotage voice that tries to keep her hidden. This is an experience for many many photographers when they're starting out. You want to showcase your work, and you want to earn a decent living from it. But very often the thought of having to put yourself out there too is terrifying. Worry about what people might think, or being judged is a big thing for creatives, because it's bad enough that we judge ourselves. What are your experiences and challenges with being visible and putting yourself out there? I'd love to hear from you, so be in touch. Of if you feel you can relate to all of this and would benefit from coaching, be in touch, I'd love to work with you. I'm here for photographers starting out on their journey from amateur to professional. Until next time. Lots of love ❤️
Join me today chatting with Gillian Allard about that sabotage voice that all us photographers have from time to time, that invades our creative thoughts and stops us in our tracks. In this coaching session sniper, we talk about how to deal with the saboteur and managing this with the same respect as we'd give to another person. Also recognising that our sabotage voice is our survival mechanism who will do anything to protect us from harm and from change. Not only does our sabotage voice kick in when the chips are down, he or she often shouts loud when we're on the verge of success, because the fear of change and having to deal with it is so strong. Have you yet recognised the voice that comes into your thoughts and tries to take over and stop you from moving forward? I'd love to hear your experiences and challenges. So be in touch. Until next time; lots of love! ❤️
Join me for a quick and impromptu recording myself and Gill chatting about being authentic over being salesy. Gone are the days of sales talk and people being sold to. We just don't like it these days, someone being all salesy and talking about how great they are, and what they have to offer. It's been proven that consumers like to engage on a much more personal level, and be comforted by the fact that their supplier is actually interested in them. So photographers. You don't have to go to those uncomfortable lengths of having to 'sell' to your ideal clients. It's awkward and off-putting and can hinder you on your business journey. Tune in today on Gillian Allard identifying her ideal client. A huge challenge when starting up a business is getting your head around identifying your ideal client. In the initial stages, the tendency is to go out and display your business to absolutely everyone, and no-one in particular. A lot of thought has to go into exactly who you're trying to attract, who you're speaking to, who you want to find you, who will connect with you. I do remember in my wedding photography business thinking my ideal client was just 'everyone getting married'. That achieved a big fat 'zero' for me. Was I really speaking to absolutely every person getting married......in the world?! I think not. So when I started to niche down and identify who my client is, where they live, what they do....it really started to come together. If you're just starting out yourself, be in touch and see if we can work together to help you kick start your business. Until next time, lots of love
Join me today, chatting to Gillian who has been switching up her attitude and her energy towards her business, and is developing a real sense of self worth. She has more clarity in her mindset towards money and being paid. These are significant processes for most of us when kick-starting our businesses. What's your attitude towards your business? Does it need to change. And how much energy do you have? Do you feel you can run at it with excitement, or are you lacking that certain umph? These are things you might need to tackle to enable you the strength and empowerment to go for it. How are you feeling about money. Are you afraid to dream? Are you afraid to correctly price and charge? Or are you finding it easier and more comfortable to give your craft away for free? Listen and enjoy how Gillian is breaking through these barriers towards her business goals and success. If you're looking for help to leap over these obstacles, I'd love to chat to you. Until next time
Join me chatting to Gillian Allard and exploring more mindset work, the most important process when kick-starting your business. Discovering the power of putting things down on paper, writing down thoughts, feelings, aspirations and seeing them come to life. Getting these things out of your head and giving them life on paper is a complete shift in your psyche. The realisation of how everything is interconnected; and how we feel about ourselves imprints on our lives, and therefore our business. This has been an incredible exercise of cracking open the mind, re-programming and dreaming bigger, and placing greater value on ourselves. This is a part of the coaching I truly enjoy, seeing the people I work with open up and transform into something amazing. If you have a story to share, or inspire others, be in contact and get on the show. And if I can help you in any way transform and kickstart your creative business - I'm here! Until next time
Join me chatting to Gillian Allard about making changes. When we embark on a journey like this, kickstarting a business, we carry so much in our heads. It's great to dream, but we have to take action. People say and do things that affect us deeply. So we in this episode we explore the power of writing things down, or even saying them out loud. Because when we take either our creative voice or our sabotage voice, or the voices of others and write them down, we bring it to life. It means we have to do something with it. Then we can unpick it and decide how much truth there is in what we tell ourselves, and what others do and say. We can decide if we need to affected by it. After writing it down, this is our opportunity to snuff it out! Just like that. Think about all of the things we absorb that simply aren't true. Never underestimate the power of a good old pen and paper! Until next time. Lots of love! x
Tune in this week for another snippet of Gillians coaching journey. We discuss the impact of Gill's sabotage voice and the things that block her from moving forward with her business idea. The inner voice of sabotage is very powerful and it affects almost all of us who embark upon setting up and running our own business. Sometimes we don't even realise how much we stand in our own way, make excuses for not doing something, convince ourselves that we're not good enough. Our sabotage voice is so convincing, it's almost like another person filling your head with negativity. And that's quite ok. That negative voice from within you is terrified of change (good or bad) and is doing everything to protect you from harm. But the truth is, when you're doing something as incredible as kickstarting your own business, it's amazing. But your poor inner voice doesn't understand that. One of the most empowering things in this process is the realisation that YOU have control, and that you can make that terrifying decision to step out of your way, silence that inner voice, and drive forward. And to know it's ok to be afraid sometimes is so refreshing - we don't have to be perfect! If you can relate to any of this, I'd love to hear from you and talk about your business dream....and fears. Lots of love!

Join me today where I chat to you - yet again I'm sorry - about your mindset for success. I really want you to give massive consideration to your PRESET v RESET buttons. In other words, what you have been pre-programmed to think and do; and what you can re-programme your mind to think. I can't stress enough - our mindset does hugely influence the direction of our lives, careers and businesses ......and the outcomes. You've nothing to lose if you take a little time to consider your preset and reset buttons. Ponder on this and see what comes up for you. Write it all down. Whatever comes up for you that's negative, ask yourself how much truth there is in such internal statements. A little point to note: we're generally kind to strangers and we watch what we say, we watch our Ps and Qs. Shall we spend the next week applying the same level of consideration to ourselves? Food for thought.....until next time. Lots of love x

Join me today where I have a chat to you about business creation and survival during this global pandemic. Following the 10 steps of my Business Coaching Programme, Step 10 - Creative Review - is so very important and often left out by many of us small business owners. We get so caught up in the 'doing' in our businesses, that we don't take time to review. When the landscape of the world we live in changes, we too have to change. There's nothing left untouched by this pandemic, so it's time to review and make whatever changes necessary to stay on course to achieving a successful business. And don't forget.....you have changed too! Until next time xx
Join me today with guest Karen Davies of Pink Lemon Branding & Design. Today we talk about the importance of brand identity and awareness. When you hear 'brand' what do you think of. I remember thinking it was another word for 'logo'. I, like many, totally misunderstood the concept of branding. Have a listen to Karen as she educates us on the importance of brand identity, what it means, the process and why it's so important for your business. Karen is an absolute expert in her field and she's help so many other small businesses identify their brand and carry that forward across all visible platforms. Starting in October I'll be opening the doors for the next Business Coaching, and Karen will be coaching the branding module. If you want to get on the course, head over to the Dee Luci Coaching and get yourself booked on! Until next time; lots of love! x
Tune in today for a session answering your questions. Should I market myself? How will I start my photography business without a portfolio? Which social media platforms should I go on, and how often should I post? Do I need to have a website and do I have to be on social media? These are all common questions that we small business owners ask, so I'm always glad to help you. Keep your questions coming. I do love to hear from you!
Join me today where I talk about the effects of discrimination on you, your business and your dreams. This is an issue that's all around us and it's important that we don't become the very thing we fight against. It's imperative that we don't fight exclusion with further exclusion. A very daring and sensitive matter I know. But if you're wanting to follow your dream and have your own business, know that nothing is standing in your way. Know that 'customers' who don't want your business for discriminatory reasons, are not your customers. They're not your ideal client. Go ahead and be brave, and dare to focus on your dreams and your pathway to success, and stay connected and true to yourself. Lots of love x
