No cold open? Yep, this week we talk about Show and Tell, a very relatable episode that answers an age old parenting question.....why do I have to explain myself over and over again. The answer. I'm testing out a hybrid for this review, not a full EV. It's a small SUV hybrid, the Haval Jolion Ultra Hybrid. The first thing you'll notice is the price, with the base model starting at $34,990, the Lux Hybrid at $37,990, and the Ultra Hybrid I'm driving today from $40,990 plus on-road costs.Other SUVs to consider in this category include the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and the Hyundai Kona Hybrid. Note that there's no built-in Sat Nav, so you'll need to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay for navigation.

First up, we'll be talking with Winston Reinboth, who's working on a system that gives you satellite navigation but also fascinating information about local sites as you travel. Next, we'll hit the road to test the ever-popular Mazda MX-5 convertible – an iconic vehicle for driving enthusiasts. And finally, we'll take a closer look at Brisbane City Council's latest public transport innovation – a system that's a cross between a bus and a tram. It's an important step forward, but they might've missed the mark with the name. Following on from our previous episode, we talk about five things you must do in a demonstration drive. These points are when you have parked up and before you let the customer drive. When you park, frame the car and butterfly it, i.e. open all the doors, bonnet and boot. Gives you and your customer space to for you to show features. Here are the highlights: {05:19} Seat back {05:47} Rear Vision Mirror {07:27} Adjust Fuel Consumption {11:46} Set up Sat Nav {13:51} Take keys out of the car About Symco Training: Symco Training was founded in 2000 by Simon Bowkett and it was his belief that the business had to offer its clients something different. That difference was clear to Simon from his days in the dealership when he experienced many sales trainers who had all the answers, but were unable, unwilling or both to actually show the delegate how they could be implemented. It remains the ethos of the business today. You see, Symco only employ trainers that are committed to delivering not only inspiring and insightful training, but are equally as happy to demonstrate these skills and techniques with real customers in your own showroom. We believe in order for sales training to be effective and in Simon's words ‘real world', it needs to be tried and tested in the only place it matters the showroom floor. There is no room for theory when your goals are for your team to sell more cars, hours or parts and retain more profit. In dealerships around the world the focus applied by many of the sales executives is to try and sell a deal. Symco specialise in getting your teams to focus on selling themselves, the product and then supporting this with the deal. To find out more visit: www.symcotraining.co.uk
A very warm welcome, today we are looking at the power and significance of having clear business goals, and why it's such a big deal for you and your business. Imagine you're driving somewhere new without SatNav and there aren't any road signs for you to follow. You might head roughly in the right direction and with perseverance, eventually stumble upon where you need to get to, but you'll likely take plenty of wrong turns and waste a huge amount of time in the process. Running a business without clear goals is very much like that. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but it's a straightforward example. Clear goals are the backbone of any successful business. They give you direction, keep you motivated, and ensure that everyone is working and heading in the same direction, which is essential and helps to keep your role fun and far easier day-to-day. https://www.philippacraddock.com/podcast-042

It requires a great deal of planning, effort, and cost to finally get the opportunity to talk to a prospective customer in person or online. In recent years, there's been a reluctance on behalf of people to meet up. Online conversations have helped facilitate such meetings, but obviously, It's never a replacement for face-to-face engagement. First Step: Like most companies, you have people whose job is to search the web, seeking out businesses who would be good customers for your organisation. They then make the initial introductions with the hope of getting a meeting with your ideal contact within the organisation. Second Step: This conversation is then generally passed on to a more experienced and possibly more technical person to initiate a deeper discussion and gain an understanding of how you can be a benefit to this organisation. Therefore, this person needs to deliver a very sharp focused, structured presentation that is on the money (Which now appears to be the current phrase in vogue.) Do you monitor your success rate for these higher-level conversational opportunities? Or do your people just turn up online and say "it will be alright on the night", as they say in the theatre. But you must remember that in the theatre, the actor has a script, a familiar stage and knows precisely where to be in the script, and located on the stage at every moment as they have rehearsed repeatedly. Third Step: I provide my clients with a template structure that lets them know where they are in the conversation at any given time and yet be flexible enough to accommodate the other parties' needs and requirements. "Using travel as an analogy, are you just getting into your car and heading off, hoping you arrive at your destination, or are you using satellite navigation? Sat Nav allows you to start by identifying where you are. Select where you want to end up while being aware of the key points on the journey, getting you there most efficiently and effectively". I help companies increase sales and win investment by telling stories that engage their audience, allowing them to see the value of what you offer in a clearer, more succinct way. While walking the field Ben and David see a man approaching. It's Rylan! He explains his Satnav has stopped working. Ben offers to give Rylan directions to Ambridge Hall over a cup of tea. Rylan is soon settled in at Brookfield, while Ben explains about the original booking mix-up with Lynda. Rylan's keen to see their Sound of Music act at the village Eurovision Show. When Mick arrives he's relieved that Rylan remembers him from a corporate event they did together. Then Lynda turns up, her suspicions roused by Ben's delaying tactics. A squabble ensues over hosting Rylan, who's mortified to discover Lynda turfed out another guest on his behalf. He's equally unhappy with Ben's sniping and asks Mick if he can stay with him instead. Mick offers a room at Joy's house on Beechwood and they set off together, leaving Ben and Lynda deflated. Kirsty visits Bridge Farm Shop, where Helen details plans for the Rogation Sunday service at Bridge Farm next week. Kirsty would love it at the rewilding site next year. She's keen to revive cultural heritage as well as biodiversity and wildlife. David arrives, pointing out an article in the Echo about the Coronation Illumination. It makes it look like he works at Bridge Farm. He wants a correction published and hopes he can persuade them to write about Brookfield. Helen mentions that Adam's half-sister Erin is visiting next week. When the others have gone Helen is disturbed by a phone call. The call ends, and she fears the worst.

Karen Jacobsen is ‘Siri'. Well, more accurately, she's the voice of Siri. She's also the Sat-Nav lady. She's been telling me (and a billion others) where to go for years and I didn't even know it. No wonder she sounded familiar. Karen is also a brilliant musician, songwriter and performer who has played all over the world with huge names (Norah Jones, Neil Sedaka, Jon English and Christopher Cross) and at huge venues (Madison Square Garden, Fenway Park, Dodger Stadium, Giants Stadium, Suncorp Stadium). This was an interesting chat. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
W/C 20th February 2022I have been literally dashing around all of this week, so everything feels a bit rushed and not quite thought through. As I type it's 05:53 on Saturday morning and I have a pile of stuff to remember before I jump in the car to head to The Guitar Show for the weekend.Of course I am bound to have forgotten something, but as of now I have organised the U10s football fixtures, packed the podcasting gear, remembered my running kit, started thinking about some questions for Luke (that will make sense after you have listened), ironed my shirts and pre-programmed the Sat Nav.How is your Saturday morning going?Stay safe.Video Games - Lana Del ReyThe National Video Game MuseumTherapy For Me (or TFM as I now refer to it) is a bit of an audio curiosity. It started out as a mechanism for me to clear my head, with the hope that by saying stuff out loud it would act as a little bit of self-help. It's remains loose in style, fluid in terms of content and raw - it's a one take, press record and see what happens, affair. If you want to keep in touch with TFM and the other stuff I do then please follow me on Facebook, Insta, Twitter or Patreon. Thanks for getting this far.

This week, Mark and Sam are joined by Clare Reeves, and they have a play with the different ways you can read an audio book script, and a commercial/promo type script. There's a discussion on what kind of person you need to be to record audio books, and our question this week is all about how long it takes to get used to the sound of your own voice. We'd love you to have a read of one of this week's scripts and send it to us on mp3 to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk - it might make it into one of upcoming episodes!Script 1‘In fifty yards you will have reached your destination,' advised the Satnav, the most valuable tool in her armoury. She began to peer at street numbers, counting them down on the gates and walls. Slightly to her surprise, number 43A was quite different from the rest. In fact, it wasn't a house at all, it was an old church sitting at the very end of the terrace. As she pulled into the nearest parking bay, it struck her that someone had certainly put a lot of work into its upkeep. She was curious to meet her new client, a Mrs Pendrith. Script 2Remember when live music just got... put on pause? And then, in 2022, it came back in style. You swapped movie nights for mosh pits Canceled plans for wristbands, Live streams for mainstage screams In the Netherlands, Hungary, Brazil, UK, Sweden and beyond! We'll get you in. Even if it's sold out. We'd also like to hear your burning v/o questions - what it is about the job, the marketing, the actual read, the audition process, the dealing with clients that's bothering you? It's September 1985, and the SA Air Force and ground forces have already shot down two Russian helicopters and an Antonov transport plane. That was an attempt at slowing down an MPLA ground assault using it's PLAN troops against UNITA at Mavinga. If you remember, this was the Angolans Operation Second Congress. On the 29th September, 32 Battalion ground team near Cuito Cuanavale radio'd the SA Air Force operations of a helicopter formation that had just taken off, bound for the battle zone around Mavinga. This was a mixed formation, two Mi-8/17 transport choppers escorted by Mi-25 gunships. The Impalas were scrambled and headed at low altitude to the targets which were picked up along the Lomba River. The Russian helicopters were flying at 3000 feet AGL, and the Mi-8/17 formation was in a trailing echelon about 1000 meters apart. About a kilometer back, the two Mi-25s were flying in support and were also at 3000 feet. The first pair of Impalas launched their attack, and then the second with devastating consequences for the chopper pilots and crew. All four were shot down. A third pair of Impalas who were monitoring watched as two MiG-23 fighter jets approached at 200 feel AGL, then swept their wings back, accelerated and climbed out of sight. They preferred to avoid dogfighting the South Africans. ON first December 1985 operational order number 1/12/85 required 32 Battalion to inflict maximum damage on FAPLA personnel and equipment in the 3rd and 6th military regions by sustained bombardment. Easier said than done. The main targets were Cuito Caunavale and the airstrip at Menongue. There were also specific instructions to target the FAPLA force as soon as it began moving towards Jamba using the all-important Multiple Rocket Launchers or MRLs. 32 was warned not to let these fall into enemy hands. Colonel Eddie Viljoen commanded this part of the operation targeting Menongue, both the MRL troop along with Charlie Company, while Captain Daan van der Merwe led an MRL troop and Golf Company as they attacked Cuito Cuanavale. Ten years earlier 32 had deployed around Menongue during operation Savannah, now they were going back. On the 15 December four MRLs were flown to Rundu from Waterkloof Air Force Base and everything was set to roll on Christmas eve.

You know the stuff you know without knowing how or why you know it? The stuff you've never been taught or told but somehow know? Some people consider this kind of ‘knowing' a type of instinct or intuition. Some think it comes from a place more divine or spiritual. I think it's a gift. I call it my internal Sat-Nav. It's the life guidance system that I can't explain but nonetheless, use daily. Whatever it is, wherever it comes from, it's served me well over the years. I believe we all have access to a type of intelligence (knowing, insight, awareness) that doesn't always ‘make sense' and can't always be explained. I was recently of Tiff's show (Roll with the Punches) and we chatted about all this and more. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
