Jealousy and comparison is not only a negative thing for your gymnasts individually, it can have a real negative impact on your team. This week we talk about why your gymnasts brains constantly go to comparison and jealousy and how to help them with it.
One of the things that gymnasts tell us worry them the most is their fear of disappointing their coaches, parents and teammates with how they do in competition. It drastically affects their ability to enjoy competing and adds so much pressure. Here is why they are worried and some things that you can do to help them learn how to let go of their worry and start focusing in on their gymnastics. This will help with performance anxiety, mental blocks, fear of falling and competing with confidence. We want every gymnast and coach to enjoy the journey. We specialize in helping gymnasts and coaches with the mental and emotional side of gymnastics. We have combined proven behavioral science principles with sports psychology to create gymnastics mindset coaching that gets results. Schedule a free intro session where we can coach you or your gymnast right away. https://gymnasticsmindsetacademy.as.me/
One of the first things we teach a young gymnast is how to fall safely. Because we all know that for sure, a gymnast is going to fall. And so we prepare them for it. And yet, we (and they) still think something has gone wrong when they actually fall in a meet. Even though ALL gymnasts fall in meets at some point. Teaching your gymnast that falling is fine is the most effective way to help them hit consistently. Join us as we talk about why and give some ideas for helping your gymnasts adopt this belief. This will help them with performance anxiety, overcoming mental blocks and competeting with confidence. It can seem in gymnastics, that your gymnasts being tired all the time, sore, without enough energy to get through workout is just how it is. That injuries are just par for the course. But according to our special guest, Kerry Bair with the Gymnast RD, it doesn't have to be this way. Most gymnasts experience this because they are under fueled. They simply aren't eating enough. Mental blocks, frustration, being hangry, all are symptoms of your gymnast simply not having enough fuel to do what gymnastics requires of them. Listen in to this incredibly informative conversation to learn more about proper fueling for your gymnast so they can be successful. A well fueled gymnast is a happier, healthier gymnast. The second pillar of competing with confidence is learning how to deal with your emotions. Competition is full of strong emotions, and knowing how to deal with them - and how not to dread them will help your athlete tremendously in competition. Dealing with performance anxiety, overcoming fears and nerves, and being mentally tough is all about learning how to not just stuff aside emotion, but how to process and deal with them. In this episode, we talk about how to do just that. We are focusing on building self-confidence this month. One area to do this is by teaching athletes to trust themselves. Sometimes we hear gymnasts say they are going for a skill, but then they don't. This is the opposite of self-confidence. Learning to trust yourself and do what you say you're going to do isn't always easy. Listen to our podcast to get some mindset training tips on how to help your gymnast trust themself and continue building their self-confidence in the process. If you haven't checked out what we are doing to serve the gymnastics community with mental and emotional health, be sure to go to GymnasticsMindsetAcademy.com.
Change is in the air! We have rebranded to Gymnastics Mindset Academy-- still the same great content that applies to everyone! We want to continue providing great value that anyone can use, while giving specific examples of how to use our tools to gymnasts and coaches of gymnasts. Join us this month as we give you some unique views on self-confidence and how to increase your own. Sometimes, we attach our self-confidence with the results we create. The truth is, our results do not create our self-confidence. The better we become at separating what happens outside of us from what we create inside of us, the more self-confidence we will feel. If you want more self-confidence, come see what we are doing at GymnasticsMindsetAcademy.com

Equal Airtime: Your brain naturally looks for anything that could be considered a problem. It does this as a protective mechanism. When you notice yourself focusing on negative options, we want to encourage you to spend just as much time opening up to the other side of the story. It's possible that there is no problem, that everything is going to work for us better than we could imagine, that we might actually stick that routine or win that medal. It's possible either side could occur. Give yourself time and space to really open up to positive options without condemning the negative ones. If you find your athletes dropping into a lot of negative self-talk, then we can help. Go to AthletesMindsetAcademy.com where we create happy, healthy athletes who know how to win. Interview With Wayne Wright. Today we had the privilege of interviewing Wayne Wright, former San Jose State University Head Coach for the women's gymnastics team. Currently, Wayne works for the 49ers education-community based programs and consults with No Cap Sports. We discussed some of the fears of coaching in today's culture. Coaching today becomes a balance of acknowledging the pressure to help a team win, succeed, becoming a coach that doesn't feel that their past will be judged at any given moment with the possibility of losing their job, or wondering if they are meeting the expectations of the parents. Coaching 20 years ago was different than it is today-- and there is a lot to discuss around this topic! We are so grateful Wayne Wright opened up about the nuances of the coaching world today. If you are a coach who feels confused and hesitant to coach athletes due to all the current situations and "safe sport" regulations, we are here for you. We hear you!
