This season, we're ditching the business talk and just having real conversations about real topics. And I couldn't be more excited. I want to talk about diet, culture, privilege, acceptance, creating boundaries, faith, making space for more fun and laughter in your life. And whatever else feels right in the moment. Last season was a little heavy on the business talk. And even though I love all the amazing friendships I made while recording it, I'm kicking the business tips to the curb and fully embracing my guest experiences and their unique perspectives on life and their imperfect journey. I'm sure the show is going to keep evolving and changing, but there's really one way to find out and that's to do the damn thing. So here we go. The first episode drops Wednesday, June 2nd. What do you feel most insecure about? That's the question I asked in a post a few months ago. Hillary answered and now we're friends! Easy peasy! Today we're talking about how those are the moments that can turn social media friendships into real life friendships. You have to be vulnerable and honest and authentic to really make connections in this world. Sometimes it seems like so much of what we see on social media is fake, but we can change that and truly connect with others by being open and honest. So the phrase “fake it til you make it” has always rubbed me the wrong way. Any other time the word “fake” is NOT something you wanna be. So I think it's always been hard for me to wrap my brain around it being sound advice. Today I'm chatting with Selena Conmackie about becoming a social media manager and faking it until she made it. Maybe can we change it to something like, “Project confidence until you are confident?” That sounds ok. Or maybe “Promise and Deliver” that might work too. What's worse than taking action and failing? Not taking action at all. Here's the thing, you can't learn by hypothesizing about things. You have to actually do the experiment. You have to do the thing if you want to learn. That can suck and feel really vulnerable, especially in an age where everything is posted on the internet for the world to see. But here's the thing...if you want to grow as a person, you gotta try new things. And news flash...you might suck at them at first. But the good news is, you'll get better with time. Today I'm chatting all about taking imperfect action with Allison Nelson, a coach for moms looking to grow their online businesses. I tossed out my scale years ago and I never looked back. Some people are totally shocked when I tell them that I don't own a scale. But I don't. And for me, it's better that way. Here's the thing about numbers in general. They're just numbers. Data. Your age. Your savings account balance. Your followers on instagram. Your weight. All just numbers. But dang, people give all those numbers I listed so much power. But, the only power they have is the power you give them. But why do we need to know that? Have you ever thought about that? What's the point? Most of the time the point of knowing the number on your scale is to confirm whether you as a person are good or bad. Today I'm sharing my favorite Miller/Seymour Holiday traditions! The good news is, they don't really cost all that much, and they're pretty easy. Easy and cheap...just how I like ‘em! Haha! The huge takeaway is this: these traditions and memories can be just tiny little moments. They don't have to be huge, planned out, perfect moments. It's just the day to day stuff that is magical. The things we felt like we screwed up are the things we laugh so hard we cry about later. I'm talking today about perfectionism and how it totally effs with your head and keeps you from being the best version of yourself! Geez, name a podcast The Imperfect Party and then your first episode is about perfectionism...yikes Deanna, a little predictable. Now, perfectionism can come from a lot of different places, but for me, it's about the fear of being judged. I think I have a good idea, or want to do something, then I get so caught up in the details, and overthinking, then I start imagining what other people will think, and I get paralyzed and can't take action. Which is obviously not helpful when you're trying to build a business, or basically do anything in life. So I've come up with 5 questions to ask yourself and sort of dive into in order to see if you might be a bit of a perfectionist.
