Very few people get paid to visit shipwrecks—but for Stephanie Gandulla, it's all part of the job. Stephanie is a scuba diver, maritime archeologist, and resource protection coordinator for the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. The agency safeguards Lake Huron's historic shipwrecks, many of which have yet to be discovered. That's where Katie Skinner comes in. She's an assistant professor at the University of Michigan and the director of the school's Field Robotics Group. Skinner and her team have been developing autonomous underwater vehicles that can find new shipwreck sites, all on their own. For humans, a search is costly, time-consuming, manual work. But for AI? Skinner thinks it could help us find answers in a snap. On this episode, Stephanie and Katie talk about using AI to find shipwrecks in a literal lake of data, so that they can spend less time searching and more time exploring—as only humans can do.You can learn more about some of the people and projects featured in this episode, including… The Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary at thunderbay.noaa.govKatie Skinner and the University of Michigan's Field Robotics Group at fieldrobotics.engin.umich.eduPrevious efforts to autonomously map Thunder Bay's historical shipwrecks at theverge.com/2020/3/5/21157791/drone-autonomous-boat-ben-shipwreck-alley-unh-noaa-great-lakes-thunder-bay~ ~ ~Working Smarter is brought to you by Dropbox Dash—the AI universal search and knowledge management tool from Dropbox. Ian Ramirez has spent his career finding innovative ways to make mouth-watering meals for clients—and one of his latest ingredients is artificial intelligence. As a chef, culinary consultant, and co-founder of Mad Honey Culinary Studio and Goods, he's the guy that brands hire to get their product on restaurant menus, and make it look and taste good—whether it's a sauce, syrup, spread, or spice. Ian uses AI to tackle the repetitive, time-consuming parts of menu planning for commercial kitchens, and help clients visualize new concepts before anything gets sliced or diced. It's a tool that augments his creativity, he says, and makes prep less of a grind. On this episode, Ian talks about how AI is helping him and his team spend more time doing what they love: cooking and getting creative in the kitchen.Learn more about Mad Honey Culinary Studio and Goods at madhoneyculinary.comLearn more about Dropbox Dash—the AI universal search and knowledge management tool from Dropbox—at workingsmarter.ai/dash~ ~ ~Working Smarter is brought to you by Dropbox Dash—the AI universal search and knowledge management tool from Dropbox. In this episode of Yin and Yancy, Andrew and Yancy dive into the double-edged sword of information overload in today's fitness and performance world. With endless tips, hacks, and advice at our fingertips, it's easy to get distracted or overwhelmed instead of focusing on what really matters—being consistent and building a strong foundation. They discuss how too much information at the wrong time can become an obstacle rather than a tool for progress, especially for beginners who can't yet fully apply or make sense of advanced strategies.Through their conversation, they emphasize that there are no shortcuts to lasting success. Just knowing something isn't enough—you need to experience it, apply it, and grow through the process. Andrew and Yancy share insights on why many so-called “hacks” promoted by influencers only work after years of doing the basics consistently. The key takeaway? Don't chase quick fixes or get lost in the noise. Invest your time and energy into mastering the fundamentals, being consistent, and using information at the right place and time to support sustainable growth.Tune in to this episode for a grounded reminder that true progress doesn't come from shortcuts or information overload—it comes from steady effort, learning, and applying knowledge in ways that fit your current journey. Enjoy the episode!

Ever feel like you're drowning in information but starving for wisdom? You've got endless tabs open, podcasts playing, books piling up—and yet when it comes time to make that big decision, your brain feels like scrambled eggs. In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I share the number one reason entrepreneurs make bad decisions and how you can stop it. I'm talking about decision fatigue, information overload, and the chaos that comes from running on autopilot without creating space for clarity. I also share my simple but powerful 3-Day Clarity Quest framework, a process that's helped me (and many others) slow down, reset, and make better decisions that lead to more income, impact, and alignment. Here's the truth: your brain is a gold mine, but you can't dig out the treasure if it's buried under junk. Studies show entrepreneurs consume 34 gigabytes of info daily. The average person makes 35,000 decisions a day. And decision fatigue alone can decrease your brain's efficiency by 40%. No wonder so many people are stuck in hustle mode, making poor choices. But here's the kicker: clarity doesn't come from more hustling—it comes from space. That's why I retreat into the Montana backcountry with no cell service, no screens, and no distractions. Just nature, stillness, and a journal. That's where I developed the Clarity Quest framework, and it's what I want to share with you today. Here are some of the big takeaways:Clarity comes from stillness, not from grinding harder. Your best ideas live in the space between distractions.Day 1 is about detox and declutter. Shut off the noise. Journal out every thought. Delete the top three distractions holding you back.Day 2 is nature immersion and stillness. Spend hours outside. Hike, sit by water, meditate. Let your mind breathe and reset.Day 3 is harvest and action mapping. Review your insights. Create a simple, time-blocked game plan. And this is crucial: attach consequences to your commitments. Because consequences create commitment.Confusion costs cash. Clarity creates cash flow. When you're clear, your productivity and decision-making power skyrocket.I'm not saying you have to run off to Montana and poop in the woods to make better choices (though, hey, I recommend it). You can adapt this framework wherever you are. The key is creating intentional space, giving your brain a reset, and approaching life and business decisions with clarity—not chaos. If you've been overwhelmed, second-guessing, or stuck on autopilot, this episode will be a game-changer. Do the 3-Day Clarity Quest, and you'll start making decisions faster, better, and more aligned with the life you actually want to create.Connect with Cary!https://www.instagram.com/caryjack/https://www.facebook.com/SirCaryJackhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/cary-jack-kendzior/https://twitter.com/thehappyhustlehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFDNsD59tLxv2JfEuSsNMOQ/featured Get a free copy of his new book, The Happy Hustle, 10 Alignments to Avoid Burnout & Achieve Blissful Balance https://www.thehappyhustle.com/bookSign up for The Journey: 10 Days To Become a Happy Hustler Online Coursehttps://thehappyhustle.com/thejourney/Apply to the Montana Mastermind Epic Camping Adventurehttps://thehappyhustle.com/mastermind/“It's time to Happy Hustle, a blissfully balanced life you love, full of passion, purpose, and positive impact!”Episode Sponsors:If you're feeling stressed, not sleeping great, or your energy's been kinda meh lately—let me put you on to something that's been a total game-changer for me: Magnesium Breakthrough by BiOptimizers. In this episode of Reboot IT, host Dave Coriale, President of DelCor, sits down with Adam Kuhn, IT Director and DelCor alum, to discuss the evolving role of IT in associations. From foundational infrastructure to advanced cybersecurity strategies, Adam shares lessons learned from both sides of the fence—being an internal influencer and a business partner. The conversation explores how IT leaders can move beyond “keeping the lights on” to proactively shaping organizational maturity, especially in the face of overwhelming system data and increasing security demands.Summary:Cybersecurity as a Strategic InvestmentCybersecurity tools like Arctic Wolf elevate IT maturity beyond basic infrastructure.Associations must move from reactive to proactive security strategies.Cyber insurance requirements are evolving and often unclear, requiring IT guidance.IT Maturity: From Core Requirements to ElectivesAdam compares IT infrastructure to college coursework—core requirements vs. electives.Core includes cloud migration, Microsoft 365, and basic security tools.Electives like threat detection systems represent strategic growth and investment.Information Overload & the Need for SynthesisDevices generate massive amounts of data that are impossible to interpret manually.Security operations centers help synthesize logs and alerts across systems.IT teams need tools to manage and interpret this data effectively.IT's Role in Business Decision-MakingIT should be a trusted advisor, not a gatekeeper or veto power.Excluding IT from technology selection leads to costly integration surprises.IT's involvement ensures better alignment, risk mitigation, and long-term success.Building Cross-Departmental PartnershipsIT needs access to systems it doesn't own to ensure full security coverage.Business units must understand their role in cybersecurity and collaborate with IT.Partnership is essential—not optional—for organizational safety and resilience.Influencing Leadership & Budget DecisionsIT leaders must make cogent cases for investment in security and infrastructure.Budget support depends on trust and clear communication with leadership.Adam emphasizes gratitude for working in a supportive environment that values IT input.

You want the unfiltered truth? Here it is: You don't actually lack clarity, you're hemorrhaging it, spending your days auditing your own intuition and performing certainty just to survive the week. Beneath the polished strength and emotional vocabulary, you're suffocating in cognitive overload, outsourcing your voice to experts, algorithms, and approval, hoping for safety, getting exhaustion instead. The contradiction? Emotional fluency without self-trust is just another cage. If your high-capacity life is built on proving yourself instead of living from your core, you're clarity-starved. Stop seeking permission. This is your invitation out of survival mode and back to your knowing. 00:00:01 – Introduction & Welcome Mischelle introduces the podcast's mission: breaking cycles of stress and exhaustion for more ease, clarity, and control. 00:00:47 – Information Overload & Self-Doubt Discussion of how taking in too much information can lead to mistrusting your own knowledge and clarity. 00:02:32 – Cognitive Overload Explained Mischelle breaks down cognitive overload and why too much input saturates the brain, making clarity and self-trust harder to access. 00:05:17 – Signs of Disqualifying Your Own Clarity Noticing when you seek constant validation from others, group chats, or AI for decisions—illustrated by disclaimers and second-guessing. 00:06:41 – Leading from Agreement, Not Authenticity Warning about defaulting to consensus and group alignment rather than authentic self-knowing. 00:07:43 – Reliance on Technology & External Approval How turning to AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Google) for decision-making undermines self-trust and treats your wisdom as a draft to be validated. 00:09:00 – Emotional Surveillance: The Three Types Informational Surveillance: Consuming excess content with hopes of clarity, leading to more confusion.Relational Surveillance: Over-reliance on others' opinions and group validation.Internal Surveillance: Auditing, replaying, and doubting your own thoughts and motives. 00:12:24 – Outsourcing Your Voice Describes how clarity and decision-making can be outsourced to tech, group chats, and external validation, eroding self-trust. 00:13:18 – Decision Dependency & Psychological Roots Explanation of “externalized decision dependency” from behavioral psychology—prioritizing certainty from outside vs. authentic clarity. 00:14:28 – Neurological Basis for Clarity Loss Explains neuroscience behind why information overload short-circuits discernment and boosts fear-based decision-making. 00:15:44 – Performing Certainty vs. Living It Recognizing the signs (proving, disclaimers, needing receipts) when you're performing confidence instead of embodying it. 00:18:26 – Breaking the Cycle: A Moment of Clarity Describes a pivotal “breath out” moment where you reclaim the courage to trust your own knowing, without needing external permission. 00:21:25 – Unlearning the Pattern: Returning to Self-Trust Acknowledgement that second-guessing is learned and recurring, but with practice, recognizing and breaking the pattern gets easier. 00:22:24 – Taking Action: “Reset” Call to listeners: If resonating, DM “reset” for support—no pressure or performance, just help in returning to self-trust. 00:23:43 – Closing & Next Steps Encouragement to subscribe, connect, and keep unlearning self-doubt one choice at a time.

SHOW NOTES: On this show…we're exploring the exhausting reality of modern communication and asking: how do we find peace in a world that won't stop talking? Every ping, ding, scroll, and swipe chips away at your attention. You're bombarded with messages—from friends, strangers, brands, and bots. You're constantly evaluating: Is this urgent? Is it true? Is it for me? Even before you form a thought, you're nudged to like, reply, share, or shut down. And in the middle of all that noise, it's easy to lose your own voice or, worse, your sense of peace. So today, we're diving into the noise. Not just the noise around you—but the noise within. We'll explore how communication overload affects your emotional well-being, how to tell the difference between being informed and being overwhelmed, and how to create more calm, clarity, and connection in your life. Because unplugging doesn't mean you're ignoring the world—it might just mean you're finally listening to yourself. Let's face it—communication today is no longer about one conversation at a time. It's a swirling mess of texts, emails, social posts, push notifications, Slack messages, breaking news, and podcast alerts. We're swimming in a digital sea of information and opinion, all clamoring for our attention. And while access has never been greater, clarity has never felt so out of reach. Do you ever feel like you're constantly reacting? Reacting to headlines, to tone, to perceived urgency? It's as if we've all been trained to respond—immediately, decisively, and publicly. That demand for constant engagement doesn't leave much room for thoughtful processing, and it definitely doesn't leave space for rest. And what about accuracy? Today, you can't take anything at face value. A single quote can be taken out of context and spark outrage. A misleading headline can travel faster than the truth. You're expected to know what's happening in the world, take a stand, and keep up—while somehow staying balanced and well-informed. It's exhausting. But this isn't just about the news cycle or technology. It's about the toll it takes on your nervous system. When you're constantly on high alert—evaluating what's real, what's urgent, and what's emotionally loaded—it's no wonder you're tired. This level of overstimulation leads to burnout, anxiety, and even feelings of helplessness. 4 Ways Information Overload Impacts Our Mental Health and How to Cope Face-To-Face Communication: Healthier Than Digital? Why Social Connections Matter to Your Health CHALLENGE: Step back from the noise this week and take inventory. What sources of information, opinions, or stimulation are truly serving your well-being—and which ones are just draining your energy? Creating peace starts with protecting your attention. Why is everyone promising AI will make you a millionaire overnight? The internet is drowning us in AI promises, productivity hacks, and get-rich-quick schemes. Every day brings another "expert" claiming you'll be left behind if you don't master their 17 AI tools immediately. Sound familiar? It's the same bullshit cycle that plagued men's wellness - thousands of conflicting voices screaming about supplements, sleep schedules, and workout routines until you feel like a failure for not doing everything perfectly. Here's the truth: Just like health and wellness boiled down to sleep well, eating decent food, and moving your body, the AI revolution doesn't require you to become a productivity guru overnight. Joe Lindsley is a traveler and a writer, and American who was reporting for Chicago's WGN Radio from Ukraine each and every weekday of Russia's full-scale war. He once was protégé to Fox News founder Roger Ailes, but Lindsley escaped that frenzied world where power mattered more than truth. He came to Lviv for a Ukrainian Catholic University journalism conference on Information Overload, AI, and Responsibility. Then the pandemic shut down world travel, and he stayed to build a better vision for the media industry.----------DESCRIPTION:Navigating U.S. Support for Ukraine: Insights from Joseph Lindsley In this episode, Joseph Lindsley returns to discuss his daily reporting from Ukraine during the war. Highlighting his conservative stance and mission to inject truthful messages into U.S. conservative circles, Lindsley underscores the importance of influencing current power dynamics in support of Ukraine. They cover the experiences of Kyiv's recent calm interrupted by intense Russian attacks, the trauma left behind, and discussions about a potential awakening in Washington. Lindsley addresses being labeled as partisan while advocating for Ukraine, emphasizing the need to appeal to those in power. Key topics include Trump's perceived change in stance towards Ukraine, the importance of understanding MAGA's anti-war sentiment, and strategies to communicate Ukraine's actions and innovations effectively to the American public. The episode also features discussions on Russian propaganda, Ukraine's internal politics, and the significance of timely U.S. military support.----------CHAPTERS: 00:00 Welcome Back Joseph Lindsley 01:10 Current Situation in Kyiv02:01 Conservative Voices and Ukraine03:22 Trump's Influence and MAGA06:22 Ukraine's Innovation and Military Strategy16:10 Media Criticism and Russian Propaganda19:44 Ukraine's Political Strategy25:51 The Importance of American Support28:19 Distrust in Washington and Ukraine's Common Ground28:39 Challenges in Convincing MAGA Supporters29:47 Ukraine's Struggle Against Russian Propaganda31:39 The Forever War Dilemma36:56 Ukraine's Technological Edge and Innovation43:20 The 50-Day Ultimatum for Putin50:03 Strategic Communication and Persuasion----------LINKS:https://www.ukrainianfreedomnews.com/donation/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Lindsleyhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/joseph-lindsley-60087618/https://www.youtube.com/@jplindsleyhttps://twitter.com/JPLindsleyhttps://www.instagram.com/jplindsley/https://www.facebook.com/josephlindsleyhttps://www.ukrainianfreedomnews.com/ ----------SUPPORT THE CHANNEL:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain----------TRUSTED CHARITIES ON THE GROUND:Save Ukrainehttps://www.saveukraineua.org/Superhumans - Hospital for war traumashttps://superhumans.com/en/UNBROKEN - Treatment. JUST LIKE BEING BACK ON THE RADIO!
Last time, we talked about how we've become tired and wired, constantly "on" with too many mental tabs open. Today, we're diving deeper into the critical question: why does losing our brain's on-off switch matter so much? The answer is simple: it's costing us – in our potential, our satisfaction, and our ability to truly rest.First, we'll explore how the inability to focus hinders our potential. Imagine trying to hit a game-winning shot while distracted by a dozen other things. We've lost the crucial art of dropping everything else to focus on one thing, whether it's a critical work project, quality time with our kids, or even navigating the road safely. When you can't be present, you can't truly excel.Next, we reveal how this constant "on" state sabotages our satisfaction. The male brain, in particular, thrives on making steady progress towards a goal. But when our minds are constantly bombarded by distractions – akin to someone trying to sell you dessert during an intense football practice – we lose the profound satisfaction that comes from focused effort and achievement. This constant mental chatter prevents us from savoring our accomplishments and enjoying the journey. Finally, we'll uncover how losing our on-off switch ruins our rest. We were designed for a natural rhythm of work and rest, reflected in days, weeks, and even seasons. However, modern life has eroded these vital barriers. Our homes have become extensions of our workplaces, and our minds struggle to unplug, leading to a lingering voice of doubt that hinders true mental relaxation. When all parts of life are blended together, nothing has its own distinct time and place, leaving us with a "blended" and often unsatisfying experience.Join us at ThrivingMan.com, where we're dedicated to helping you conquer everyday chaos and build a life you can be proud of. In our next episode, we'll uncover why we find ourselves in this perpetual "on" state and explore the ongoing war on our attention and peace.On-Off Switch, Brain Health, Focus, Attention, Distraction, Productivity, Potential, Satisfaction, Rest, Work-Life Balance, Mental Fatigue, Burnout, Digital Overload, Information Overload, Mental Chatter, Present Moment, Deep Work, ThrivingMan, Men's Health, Personal Development, Self-Improvement, Conquer Chaos, Build a Thriving Life, Cognitive Function, Mental Clarity, Quality of Life, Boundaries, Digital Boundaries, Stress Management, Unplugging, Mental Rest, True Rest, Constant Connection, Mind Management.

I, Stewart Alsop, welcomed Woody Wiegmann to this episode of Crazy Wisdom, where we explored the fascinating and sometimes unsettling landscape of Artificial Intelligence. Woody, who is deeply involved in teaching AI, shared his insights on everything from the US-China AI race to the radical transformations AI is bringing to education and society at large.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversationTimestamps01:17 The AI "Cold War": Discussing the intense AI development race between China and the US.03:04 Opaque Models & Education's Resistance: The challenge of opaque AI and schools lagging in adoption.05:22 AI Blocked in Schools: The paradox of teaching AI while institutions restrict access.08:08 Crossing the AI Rubicon: How AI users are diverging from non-users into different realities.09:00 Budgetary Constraints in AI Education: The struggle for resources like premium AI access for students.12:45 Navigating AI Access for Students: Woody's ingenious workarounds for the premium AI divide.19:15 Igniting Curiosity with AI: Students creating impressive projects, like catapult websites.27:23 Exploring Grok and AI Interaction: Debating IP concerns and engaging with AI ("Morpheus").46:19 AI's Societal Impact: AI girlfriends, masculinity, and the erosion of traditional skills.Key InsightsThe AI Arms Race: Woody highlights a "cold war of nerdiness" where China is rapidly developing AI models comparable to GPT-4 at a fraction of the cost. This competition raises questions about data transparency from both sides and the strategic implications of superintelligence.Education's AI Resistance: I, Stewart Alsop, and Woody discuss the puzzling resistance to AI within educational institutions, including outright blocking of AI tools. This creates a paradox where courses on AI are taught in environments that restrict its use, hindering practical learning for students.Diverging Realities: We explore how individuals who have crossed the "Rubicon" of AI adoption are now living in a vastly different world than those who haven't. This divergence is akin to past technological shifts but is happening at an accelerated pace, impacting how people learn, work, and perceive reality. The Fading Relevance of Traditional Coding: Woody argues that focusing on teaching traditional coding languages like Python is becoming outdated in the age of advanced AI. AI can handle much of the detailed coding, shifting the necessary skills towards understanding AI systems, effective prompting, and higher-level architecture.AI as the Ultimate Tutor: The advent of AI offers the potential for personalized, one-on-one tutoring for everyone, a far more effective learning method than traditional classroom lectures. However, this potential is hampered by institutional inertia and a lack of resources for tools like premium AI subscriptions for students.Curiosity as the AI Catalyst: Woody shares anecdotes of students, even those initially disengaged, whose eyes light up when using AI for creative projects, like designing websites on niche topics such as catapults. This demonstrates AI's power to ignite curiosity and intrinsic motivation when paired with focused goals and the ability to build.AI's Impact on Society and Skills: We touch upon the broader societal implications, including the rise of AI girlfriends addressing male loneliness and providing acceptance. Simultaneously, there's concern over the potential atrophy of critical skills like writing and debate if individuals overly rely on AI for summarization and opinion generation without deep engagement.Contact Information* Twitter/X: @RulebyPowerlaw* Listeners can search for Woody Wiegmann's podcast "Courage over convention" * LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/dataovernarratives/

Feeling stuck? In today's episode, I dive deep into how to conquer information overload and regain your focus. My main piece of advice is simple yet powerful: Stop Consuming So Much Information! It's easy to feel like you're drowning in endless streams of content, but when you, as a business owner, fail to monitor the information you consume, it can drain your creativity and clarity. This approach not only makes a huge difference in your business but also aligns with biblical wisdom. The Bible teaches us to be mindful of what we allow into our hearts and minds, emphasizing the importance of focus, peace, and discernment. Overloading ourselves with information can lead to confusion, while taking control of what we consume allows us to be more intentional and effective in our work. I also share how slowing down, simplifying, and prioritizing what truly matters can bring you closer to the success and peace you deserve. EP 427- Key Chess Improvement Principles with GM Noël Studer: The Fallacy of Accuracy Scores, Leaky Roofs & Information Overload GM Noël Studer is a two time Swiss National Champion turned blogger, course creator and chess trainer. Noël is also a regular guest on the podcast, and as an avid reader of his blog, I always have plenty of questions for him. This particular interview tackles questions like the following: What has training for a marathon taught Noël about chess? Do Grandmasters like Noël make it sound easier than it is to “fix blunders?” What are the traits of Noël's most successful students? We also discuss an update to one of Noël's courses, his next projects, and why we both are a bit disillusioned with professional chess. There is always a lot to learn from GM Studer!
