I am on a mission to make history real again one beer and discussion at a time. Looking at current events and history from a people's perspective.
Microaggressions: there's nothing small about them. I'm joined by Erin to discuss how she has dealt with microaggressions throughout her life. From the first one she remembers experiencing to the evolution of how she perceives them now.
In just the last week, the situation in occupied Palestine and the larger region has seen a dramatic shift. A new wave of resistance has sparked militant mass protests not only in cities and towns across the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza, but also in many Palestinian or “mixed” cities inside the 1948 borders of Israel. Violence that began in East Jerusalem in April has expanded to military attacks from both Israel and Palestine. Large scale injuries and fatalities have been reported. Clashes have broken out between Palestinian Arabs and Jewish groups in Israel. The international community looks divided and readying for taking sides in the current Israel-Palestine conflict if it aggravates to another war. In this week's episode we are going to try and unpack this conflict and the larger global implications.
In this week's episode we breakdown President Biden's State of the Union Address. The conservative media claims he is a "radical socialist", while the liberal media claims that he is the "most progressive" president in history. We break down how he is full of platitudes and promises, but has failed to deliver any meaningful policies or changes. It leads one to wonder who is he really governing for, the working class who elected him or the big money business donors. Also, make sure to check out our opening story of Kaleb surviving his encounter with the "wonderful" couple, "Treesa and Gil" in a Publix bathroom.
Adam Toledo and Daunte Wright should be alive, simple as that. In this episode we tackle, yet another, example of police brutality that took place in the last week. We discuss the role that gaslighting played in each of these events, as well as debunking the myths surrounding "defunding the police" and what structural changes we must demand of the criminal justice system as a whole.
In part two of this discussion Kaleb and his other fellow Social Studies teacher, Berkan Ciger, continue their deep dive into looking at presidential legacies by looking at the legacies of Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. If you haven't listened to part one make sure to check it out and hit that subscribe button while you are at it!
We are 4 months into 2021. In those 4 months we have had five mass shootings and more than 10,000 gun violence deaths already occurring this year. It is an event that repeats over and over again. A mass shooting occurs — sometimes more than one, in quick succession. The country mourns the victims. And nothing changes. After two separate mass shootings last month in Atlanta and Boulder, Colorado left 18 people dead, the never ending debate over gun control measures has sprung up again. We are going to center this episode on debunking myths regarding guns, examining numerous gun control measures, and share our own views on the matter.
This long awaited midweek premiere features Kaleb and his other fellow Social Studies teacher, Berkan Ciger. These two history teachers discuss how they approach teaching from a people's perspective instead a glossed over textbook perspective. They discuss their views about the "heroification" of figures and how to truly determine the legacy of past presidents. So many students have such a glossy view of presidents because that is what they have always been taught from white washed textbooks. For part one, the two teachers discuss the legacies, both good and bad, of George Washington and Woodrow Wilson.
In this week's episode we discuss President Biden's proposed 3 trillion dollar Infrastructure Plan, which would be the first plan since President Eisenhower created the Highway System in the 1950's. We break down both the physical and human infrastructure aspects of this bill, as well as discuss how "cost" shouldn't factor into this plan.
This week we discuss our response to the recent mass shooting in Atlanta that targeted Asian American owned massage parlors. How can we curb the drastic rise in Anti-Asian rhetoric and hate related crimes since the outbreak of COVID-19? Real Talk 28 minutes in: This week's real talk centers around the debate over how to tackle crime in communities of color. Does adding more police work or should we tackle the root origin of crime, which is poverty.
Liberals say that President Biden is doing great while Conservatives claim that he is ushering in the demise of the country. Make sure to check out this episode and see where we stand! ---
In this week's episode we discuss this past week's winter storm in Texas that left millions without power in near subzero temperatures. Meanwhile, their own Senator, Ted Cruz, decided to serve himself a daquiri in Cancun. We also tackle a topic that hits close to home for nearly 44 million Americans; student debt. In part one of this three part series, we will look at how neoliberal policies have only led to the exploitation of the working class. The case being made here isn't a Democrat or Republican argument. These three episodes will provide three policies (federal job guarantee, baby bonds, reparations) that transcend political parties to raise up those who have been left behind. In FDR's 1944 State of the Union Address, he observed that "needful men are not free men. Those who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictators are made." FDR saw that full citizenship demanded more than political rights, but required economic rights, most importantly the right to a useful job. More so now than ever before this need for a right to a secure, well paying job is essential. A Federal Job Guarantee is one major policy that not only helps those left behind, but helps transition our economy into a new green century. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthemoodeforrealhistory/support

Where did idea of race originate? To begin to even try to understand racist thinking we have to go back to the beginning. When we do, we see the entire notion of racism was built on a lie.
