A major victory for gun rights advocates: California's controversial 2016 ammunition law has just been ruled unconstitutional by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Effective immediately, millions of Californians can buy ammunition without background checks or extra fees.Passed as Proposition 63, the law required a background check for every ammo purchase—until now. This landmark decision could have massive implications for gun legislation nationwide.

One of the final steps in the hiring process that can cause a lot of stress and anxiety is the pre-employment background check which is why I am thrilled to be bringing you this conversation with Kristy Wheeler-Scott, an HR professional with over 8 years of experience, to get the inside scoop on what to expect! Kristy explains that background checks are a very important part of the hiring process, allowing employers to verify qualifications, minimize risk, and ensure cultural fit. While the specific details can vary by industry and organization, most background checks cover criminal records, employment history, education, and sometimes even credit checks. The key, Kristy shares, is to be proactive and get yourself organized ahead of time. Have your resume handy and double-check the dates and details rather than relying solely on your memory. Gather supporting documents such as offer letters, pay stubs, and W-2s so you can quickly provide verification if needed, and be sure to accurately represent your education and any certifications or credentials, without exaggerating. We chat about the importance of having the right attitude. This background check process is essentially your "first assignment,” an opportunity to demonstrate your professionalism and responsiveness, so stay transparent, authentic, and timely in your communications. Rushing through the forms or getting defensive will only create more delays and headaches. This can all feel very daunting, but Kristy's insights are so invaluable. With the right preparation and mindset, you can set yourself up for a smooth background check experience, and, of course, always remember, the team here at ROCS is always here to support you through this transition, so feel free to reach out anytime if you have additional questions! Key Takeaways: Background checks are common in the hiring process to verify qualifications, employment history, and education and to minimize risks. Prepare by gathering supporting documentation such as offer letters, pay stubs, and W-2s. Strive for accuracy by referencing your resume and not just relying on memory. Candidates should be honest about education credentials, indicating if a degree was not completed. Maintain a professional, responsive, and transparent attitude throughout the background check process. Read instructions carefully and reach out with any questions to ensure a smooth process. This week, we're talking about an under-discussed part of federal gun law and a significant recent update to it. While most gun owners know you need to pass a background check to buy a gun from a licensed dealer. And most also know you need to pass one to get a concealed carry license. But many don't know their concealed carry license can be used to bypass the sales background check requirement--at least, in certain states. That list of states got longer this week as the result of a Gun Owners of America (GOA) lawsuit and President Donald Trump's executive review of gun policy. Now, 30 states have "Brady Permits" that allow holders to bypass the sales check. GOA's Sam Paredes joins the podcast to walk through the years-long legal fight. He lays out how GOA plans to lobby states to change their laws to qualify for the alternative status. He also said GOA plans to file follow-up suits to get ATF to recognize even more permits. Special Guest: Sam Paredes.

In this special episode of Predators I've Caught, host Chris Hansen sits down with one of the most vital yet often unseen figures in the investigations—veteran decoy “Bailey.” Known by her alias during the sting operations, Bailey opens up about the emotional and psychological toll of posing as a vulnerable teenager to help catch online predators. She shares vivid memories from one of the most unforgettable stings: the takedown of Jeff Sokol, a predator whose smug attitude and infamous pizza dinner made headlines. With honesty and courage, Bailey walks us through the behind-the-scenes experience of that encounter—what she felt, what she feared, and why she kept coming back to do it again. It's a rare, inside look at the bravery behind the bait—and the high-stakes reality of confronting evil face to face. Identity VerificationThe old tools simply don't work any more. Applicants looking to deceive employers and background screeners know how to provide false identifiers. The question is, can they be stopped. The SSN Trace can present RED flags, but it's not a tool that can be used to VERIFY IDENTITY.Consent Based Social Security Number Verification/Consumer Based... Great tool, but they require additional forms and increase cost and turnaround time.Identity Verification Technology... the best solution because it stops the applicant from providing false identifiers before they can get the background check process. Enhances the quality of the background screening program while reducing risk.
In this episode of "ThinkFuture," I chat with Chris Harper, an entrepreneur who's shaking up the background check game with his company, ZippedScript. Harper kicks things off with his wild journey—from selling light switch covers and Christmas caroling as a kid to tackling the outdated background check industry. He breaks down how the old-school methods, like call centers and “runners,” are slow, pricey, and sketchy. ZippedScript flips the script by getting user permission to directly verify educational credentials, building a massive, secure global database that's way faster and fraud-resistant. We geek out on the future, imagining ZippedScript's tech on a blockchain for digital credentials and identities in the next decade—though Harper warns traditional companies might drag their feet. We wrap up planning to chat more offline about blockchain ideas, and Harper drops his contact info for anyone who wants to connect. Whew. This week is what Trump flooding the zone really looks like. He's throwing political flash-bang after political flash-bang. And everyone feels unbalanced and like they have whiplash. While his opponents are overwhelmed, disorganized, leaderless and demoralized. While he continues to gather more and more levers of power. And gain even more momentum. This is political shock and awe. And it's working. Because the Democrats are nowhere to be found. They're old and lost and powerless to stop Trump and his hoard from doing whatever they want. Powerless to stop themselves from appointing radical election deniers like new VA Secretary Doug Collins to cabinet positions. That's right. 22 Democrat senators voted along with the Republicans to put Collins in charge of the VA. They won't save you. They can't even save themselves. But don't despair fully. Because we're gonna help you rise above the flood and look upstream to what's next. Especially around the FBI—which is now under political attack from Trump, Musk and the extreme right. And Asha Rangappa (@AshaRangappa_) is our guest. A true American badass, she is an Assistant Dean and Senior Lecturer at Yale University's Jackson School of Global Affairs and a former Associate Dean at Yale Law School is back. She served as a Special Agent in the New York Division of the FBI, specializing in counterintelligence investigations. Her work involved assessing threats to national security, conducting classified investigations on suspected foreign agents, and performing undercover work. She's the perfect guest to break it all down to get you caught up and up to speed on all things Trump, national security and FBI. She gives her straight and often sobering assessment of the situation ahead and how and when it will unfold. While also taking you through what's actually involved in an FBI background, how many agents worked on the Jan 6 investigation and how the FBI has its hands full this weekend with the Super Bowl. It's a lot. But we'll cut through it fast and fiercely.
