*Sensitivity Alert Alexandra and Anna embrace September being Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Anna spent a good chunk of September in 6th grade classrooms piloting a suicide prevention curriculum. It used to be that we would pack a bag and make a plan to run away. These days, kids tend to go straight to expressing they don't want to live anymore. Alexandra put out her first Instagram reel sharing that prevention really needs to start earlier and with teaching kids and adults that emoting is okay, even if it feels awful. Alexandra is also excited to announce the launching of her new digital course to help people work through messages and projections we take on as children so they can start trusting themselves again. Life is often considered linear but it is more like an ocean. The predictability comes in trusting ourselves that we can handle whatever life hands us. Her course- the Forward to Joy Masterclass is a tool to help people navigate the sludge or cobwebs we take on that prevent us from truly trusting ourselves. This week, the ladies discuss people wanting to connect with each other and the transition as kids go from wanting to be social to being antisocial. Is it something we, as adults, put on the kids or is it something that happens developmentally? Anna and Alexandra also get into the idea of perceptions being reality...or not and how restorative justice practices can teach kids good skills for understanding a variety of perspectives. We seem to want to be kind as individuals but when faced with unkind people, we, as society, find it appropriate to be mean. Alexandra brings up Matt Richtel and his book, Inspired: Understanding Creativity- A Journey through Art, Science, and the Soul, which discusses how by 4th grade, kids start to lose their creativity and freedom of exploration. Kids start to be more inhibited and cautious. Because laughter is the best medicine for Anna and her cold, the Russian Sisters did not forget to add a STW joke of the day. After a quick update on Anna's trip to NYC and Alexandra's continued summer fun with Buddy, the ladies decide to take the repeal of Roe V Wade head on. They find 3 aspects to the topic that impact discourse: 1) for abortion versus against abortion, 2) having choice, 3) others' legislating those choices. They are not interested in debating whether or not they agree with abortion, however, they want their listeners to know you are not alone and no one should be able to legislate what to do with your body. Sending love to everyone.
