Send us a textIn this episode of The Autoimmune RESET, I dive into a crucial but often overlooked concept: antigenic load—the total burden of foreign substances your immune system has to process. If you have an autoimmune disease or struggle with unexplained symptoms like fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, or food sensitivities, understanding antigenic load could be a game-changer.I break down the key mechanisms behind autoimmunity, including molecular mimicry, bystander activation, and the role of undigested food proteins in triggering immune responses. I also share insights from my own health journey and clinical experience, explaining why many people with autoimmune conditions feel worse after infections, stress, or dietary triggers. We explore how antigenic load contributes to conditions like Hashimoto's, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and lupus—and, most importantly, how to reduce it through:Dietary changes (AIP, gluten-free, gut support)Reducing toxin exposure (pesticides, heavy metals, environmental triggers)Managing chronic infections (EBV, gut bacteria imbalances)Nervous system regulation (how tools like Nurosym support vagus nerve function)Detoxification strategies to support immune balanceIf you're looking for actionable steps to lower your antigenic load, calm your immune system, and regain control of your health, this episode is for you.

Back in power, President Trump immediately took aim at climate and environmental protection with a flurry of executive orders such as blocking the Paris Climate Accord and boosting fossil fuel sales. The President may have over-reached but could still do lasting damage to the climate and environment. Also, one of President Trump's Day One executive orders commands a reversal of the Biden Administration's goal for half of vehicles sold in America by 2030 to be electric. Getting rid of the $7,500 EV tax credit and federal funding for charging stations may take acts of Congress, but already this effort to shift EVs into reverse is making for uncertainty in the US auto industry. And not all conventionally grown fruits and vegetables are loaded with high levels of harmful pesticides. A couple of weeks ago I discussed the Dirty Dozen and today I'm talking about the Clean 15. Listen to the episide here - The Dirty Dozen and Pesticide Exposure These are fruits and vegetables that are considered to be the least problematic in regards to pesticides. However, if you have the means I would still buy them organic as the bioaccumulation of toxins is really at the root of so many illnesses. The foods with the least amount of pesticide residues in 2024 according to the Environmental Working Group are: avocados sweet corn onions papaya carrots honeydew melon asparagus pineapples sweet peas (frozen) watermelon cabbage sweet potatoes mangoes mushrooms kiwi Papaya are often genetically modified, so even though they may be low in pesticides, it is still best to get them organic. Like so many health experts with a niche specialty, it was her struggles with mold and metal toxicity, Celiac disease, and other health issues that steered her in this direction, she started out as an OB-GYN.She is the poster child for healthy living and was even when she was suffering multiple symptoms that finally, at 35, led to a diagnosis of celiac. She'd likely had it since she was a teen, but it wasn't a thing that docs knew to test for.Even as the queen of healthy living—no sugar, processed carbs, alcohol—nada yet once she started testing for heavy metals after an exposure to lead dust while visiting Notre Dame in France after it burned, she found was loaded with one bad thing after another. “If the healthy person can have this much toxicity, what about the average person who isn't aware of all of this?”That is how she got into being a detox doc. “I think the part that's pertinent for all of the listeners is that if you want to be vital, vibrant, healthy, able, and interested in intimacy, until you're at least a hundred, you need to manage your toxins because they are directly impacting your endocrine system.”And you probably know that your endocrine system is responsible for energy, metabolism, hormones. Toxins also impact your immune system, your risk for cancer, dementia, Parkinson's, MS.We will never be toxin free but we can certainly lighten the load we carry. How? Testing but first finding out what you need to test for and why. This probably means working with a Functional Medicine practitioner, someone who can go beyond just the usual tests. It's important to look at what's hanging out in our bodies and where. If we don't optimize our health the body can't eliminate these things.Toxins can not only contribute to weight gain (Grab my free report on obesogens and how to lose weight when you've tried everything) they can make it hard or even impossible to lose what you've gained. We talked about the Environmental Working Group who publish two lists called the Dirty Dozen—produce you should buy organic due to heavy pesticide use-- and the Clean Fifteen—produce that's ok not to buy organic.Wendie espouses starting small when it comes to making healthier, less toxic, changes for your body and your home. Finish your favorite face wash that's not chemical free? Find one that is. It doesn't have to be expensive. Why bother? What goes on, goes in.Level up to a better dish soap, laundry soap, (I love these laundry soap sheets from Earth Breeze and no longer buy those huge plastic jugs.)We talked chelation, hair testing for metals, how detox works and why you need to work with a pro or risk overloading your body rather than eliminating the gunk. Her free offer is mega valuable we created an online, Platform that has community, supplements programs, you can do limited testing, uh, you can really get involved with your health like. Start to work on your toxins and your hormone balance, because that's, those are the big things that throw people off. Mm-hmm. It's a gift that's designed to get you started. Because it's a process. It's not, it's a journey not a destination. Here's the link to sign up for the platform.

This week's interview is a little bit different from normal as I welcome back a previous guest Food Futurologist and director of Bellwether Food Trends, Dr. Morgaine Gaye. Morgaine explores food and eating from a social, cultural, economic, branding, and geo-political perspective. She also consults food companies, developing new products and ideas; writing trend reports for forecasting sites to PR and ad agencies. Morgaine was staying with me during this year's SXSW where she was presenting Trend to Table, her latest trends presentation, and the title of her upcoming book. Therefore I used the opportunity to have her share some of the trends she's witnessing. Besides discussing some of these macro trends we also discuss when we first met back in 2008 when I was running a digital team at McCann London. We reflect on how we developed an edible beauty product and brand prototype which was ahead of its time and how life choices set us on different paths and led us to miss the opportunity to build what would have been a groundbreaking product. This conversation was somewhat cathartic for me and hopefully provides some encouragement to anyone working to bring execute an idea to persist, take action, and test it in-market.What We Discuss00:00 Intro 03.15 Mark asks Morgaine to discuss the raw cacao collaboration from 2009. 05:15 Morgaine explains the health benefits of raw cacao. 07:45 Mark explains how he formed a skunk works team internally at McCann. 09:00 How the idea of positioning the cacao chocolate as edible beauty product emerged.14:00 Why the idea remained no more than a prototype?17:00 Lessons learned from the project.18:40 Morgaine discusses her SXSW trends presentation and subject of her new book.20:20 Examples of the big trends such as what it means to be human?24:00 The changing role of ‘the table' at home and the unraveling.27:00 Other changing food trends such as the use of ‘air' in food.30:35 The use of ‘air protein' in food.34:50 Why she wrote her book35:30 The Dirty dozen and the Clean Fifteen from the Environmental Working Group 38:00 Permaculture 38:50 Morgaine's hope for the futureSocial Links Instagram Facebook LinkedinEmail Links Show The Dirty dozen and the Clean Fifteen from the Environmental Working Group Hosted on Acast. In a world filled with information overload and conflicting advice, it can be hard to know what to believe when it comes to nutrition. With that in mind, I invited my nutritionist, Jessica Berliner, to join me for this conversation. Jessica Berliner is a clinical nutritionist with a Masters in Integrative Nutrition. Her approach to nutrition is to find a sustainable and individualized plan for each person she works with—because there is no such thing as a perfect diet. She not only addresses the foods that people put in their bodies but also their exercise, stress management, supplement routine and whatever other factors are helping to guide someone's health journey. In this episode, we discuss: Why we should be cautious of social media advice on nutrition There isn't a perfect diet for everyone (and what that means for you) Why having fun with our food is the key to sustainable change Learn what basics a nutritionist needs to know to guide you toward better health How to work within our budgets when it comes to choosing high-quality foods Why the food pyramid may not be the best guide for healthy eating Links Mentioned Seafood Watch EWG's Clean Fifteen™ and Dirty Dozen™ lists The Peter Attia Drive Podcast The Huberman Lab Podcast FoundMyFitness Podcast Connect with Jessica www.jessicaberliner.com www.wellinmontclair.com www.lifesciencehealthandwellness.com

Episode Title: Clean Eating: A Guide to Choosing the Safest Fruits, Veggies, and Fish Introduction: Welcome to today's episode where we're going to talk about clean eating and how to choose the safest fruits, veggies, and fish to consume. Our information comes from a yearly report by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), which provides guidance on the most contaminated produce and the cleanest options available. Segment 1: What is Clean Eating? To start things off, we'll define what clean eating means. Clean eating is a way of eating that involves choosing whole, unprocessed foods that are free from additives, preservatives, and chemicals. The idea is to eat foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. Eating clean can improve your health, help you maintain a healthy weight, and provide your body with the nutrients it needs to function properly. Segment 2: The Environmental Working Group (EWG) Next, we'll discuss the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and their yearly report on the most contaminated fruits and vegetables. The EWG is a non-profit organization that conducts research and advocacy work on issues related to the environment and public health. Every year, they release a report called the Dirty Dozen, which lists the 12 most contaminated fruits and vegetables and the Clean Fifteen, which lists the safest produce to consume. Segment 3: The Dirty Dozen In this segment, we'll dive into the Dirty Dozen list and discuss the fruits and vegetables that are most heavily contaminated with pesticides and other chemicals. Some of the items on the list include strawberries, spinach, kale, and apples. We'll talk about why these foods are so contaminated and the potential health risks associated with consuming them in large amounts. Segment 4: The Clean Fifteen Moving on to the Clean Fifteen list, we'll discuss the fruits and vegetables that are the safest to consume. These items include avocados, sweet corn, pineapple, and papaya, among others. We'll talk about why these foods are the cleanest and what makes them good options for those who want to eat clean. Segment 5: Choosing Clean Fish Finally, we'll talk about how to choose clean fish. Fish can be a healthy and nutritious part of a clean eating diet, but some types of fish can be contaminated with mercury and other toxins. We'll discuss the types of fish that are safest to eat and provide tips on how to choose and prepare fish that's clean and healthy. Conclusion: In conclusion, eating clean is an important part of maintaining good health. By choosing the safest fruits, vegetables, and fish, you can ensure that you're getting the nutrients your body needs without exposing yourself to harmful chemicals and toxins. Be sure to check out the Environmental Working Group's yearly report for more information on the cleanest and most contaminated produce. The Environmental Working Group, as well as Beyond Pesticides: www.beyondpesticides.org provides information on produce safety and the benefits of organic food and farming.Related website: https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/about.php

In this episode, we talk about the report put out by the Environmental Working Group, where they categorized the 12 most toxic fruits and vegetables and 15 of the cleanest. The report found that around 70 percent of 48 different fruits and vegetables contained at least one pesticide. For example, a single strawberry tested positive for 20 different pesticides! Hey dear souls! In this episode (2019) we are exploring two VERY important lists that are highly valuable for all people on the journey of healing, detoxifying and growing vitality. EWG's The Dirty Dozen and The Clean Fifteen are straightforward guidelines to purchasing and consuming produce that is the cleanest (and least polluted) of all conventionally grown fruits and vegetables. This conscious conversation is extremely important for anyone who is healing, detoxifying, trying to gain more energy, lessen inflammatory symptoms, and especially for parents with babies and children, and pregnant women of course. Also, we dive into the vast amount of chemicals that are found in newborn infants, as many agricultural chemicals are passed from mother to baby through cord blood. This is an extremely important conversation, especially for parents. The Dirty Dozen (2019): Strawberries Spinach Kale Nectarines Apples Grapes Peaches Cherries Pears Tomatoes Celery Potatoes The Clean Fifteen (2019): Avocados Sweet Corn* Pineapples Frozen Sweet Peas Onions Papayas* Eggplant Asparagus Kiwis Cabbage Cauliflower Cantaloupe Broccoli Mushrooms Honeydew Melon Learn more with Environmental Worker's Group: https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/ Thank you for tuning into another episode of HOLI SACRED SH*T!
