You might be able to gain muscle faster (almost twice as fast!) as you are right now - and still remain “natty”. How? With what I like to call “stretch-focused training”. A training technique that has seemed to crack the code to what it takes to build muscle fast naturally. I've even started experimenting with it, and honestly, it seems like it's working. Don't just take my word for it, though. I've assembled my elite crew of researchers to dive into the science, separate the truth from the fad, and figure out the best way to use this training to build muscle faster. Before moving into the practical of how to build muscle faster, let's explain the concept behind “stretch-focused training”. Whenever you lift weights, your muscles contract to lift the weight up and then stretch in order to lower the weight back down. The muscles can sense the stretch in the contractile units and, in response, kickstart a complex process that tells the body to build more muscle. This is what researchers now term "stretch-mediated hypertrophy". Click below to join our new training and nutrition programs: https://builtwithscience.com/
This is the #1 arm workout that blew up my arms. There's only 4 arm exercises, but it's the science behind them that makes them so effective. Before we dive into exercise 1, realize that I was not born with big arms. God blessed me with twigs. I spammed them with bicep curls and tricep pushdowns in every single arm workout for bigger arms, but it didn't get me very far. As soon as I trained smarter and used the correct arm exercises, my arm growth took off. I don't want you to make the same mistakes I did, so today we'll use the latest science to create the best arm workout with the best bicep exercises and tricep exercises to blow up your arms. There are only 4 exercises, but proper form is crucial, so pay attention if you want to get bigger arms. Click below to join our new training and nutrition programs: https://builtwithscience.com/
Most people don't know how to bench press with the proper bench press form. For example, do you ever feel pinching or pain in your shoulder when you bench press? Or maybe it activates your shoulders and triceps more than the chest? Or maybe every time you start going heavy you end up hurting yourself. This isn't because the bench press is a bad exercise, it's just that most people do it wrong. There are 5 mistakes almost everyone makes with their bench press technique — be it on the barbell bench press or Smith machine bench press. Fix these bench press form mistakes, and I guarantee your shoulders will thank you, and you'll start to feel your chest activating like never before. Wondering how to grow your shoulders? Today I want to share the #1 shoulder workout that absolutely blew up my delts. My Filipino genetics blessed me with a 1:1 shoulder-to-waist ratio and narrow clavicles that made me look frail and weak. But I refused to let my genetics define me. This past year, my shoulders are wider, broader, and fuller than they've ever been. I followed a simple, science-based shoulders workout that's worked better than anything I've tried in the past. There are only 3 shoulder exercises (including the crowd fav, lateral raises) in this shoulders workout, but proper form is crucial, so pay attention. Once you do decide that you're ready to invest in a protein powder, it's important that you first get well informed of the differences between the various protein powder types out there (e.g. whey protein isolate vs whey protein concentrate) , as well as the things to look for and things to avoid when comparing different brands. This helps you get the best protein powder available. By the end of this podcast, you'll know exactly how to pick the right protein powder type for you, and how to separate the good from the not-so-good options out there. Here are the main points to keep in mind when it comes to how to pick the right protein powder: 1. Whey isolate protein is likely the best bang for your buck. If going for a plant-based option, opt for a mixed protein powder (e.g. rice/pea protein). 2. Avoid powders with proprietary blends by looking closely at the nutrition label. There should not be a ton of listed ingredients (e.g. “blends”) nor should there be a big gap between the actual protein you get per serving compared to the total serving size. 3. To potentially avoid harmful levels of contaminants, do some research on the quality-control practices and testing protocols of the manufacturer. If you're going to be investing in protein, it's worth putting in the additional effort to ensure that what you're getting is a high quality product aligned with your specific goals. And for a step-by-step program that applies this same level of science and detail to your workouts, nutrition, and supplementation so that you can truly transform your body in the most efficient way possible, then simply take the analysis quiz to discover which science-based program would be best for you and where your body is currently at below: https://quiz.builtwithscience.com/
Your glutes are important. But the problem nowadays though is that we tend to sit a lot and for prolonged periods of time, which is a great way to potentially “forget” how to use your glutes especially if you don't take action to counteract this. So, if you suspect you're suffering from ‘gluteal amnesia,' or you'd just like to see better results with your glutes exercises and glute workouts, then it's time to start learning how to activate your glutes. And to do so, we're going to use a 4 step glute activation plan. Where with the use of a few daily glute activation exercises, we'll be able to gradually get your glutes firing harder and harder to the point where you'll be actually use your glutes whenever you walk, move, and perform your lifts, instead of having your lower back or other muscles compensate and work overtime as a result of weak glutes. Here's the daily action plan to get rid of gluteal amnesia: Glute Bridges (3 sets of 10 reps with 5 second pause at top) Clam Shells (3 sets of 10 reps per side) Wake Up Exercise (10 reps with 5 second holds, done 3-5 times throughout the day) And for a step-by-step program that uses science to show you not only how to properly train each of your muscles week after week, but also how to then best fuel them for recovery and growth so that you can build lean muscle and strip off fat in the most efficient way possible, then simply head on over to builtwithscience.com to take the analysis quiz to discover what program would be best for you: https://quiz.builtwithscience.com/
Cheat meals can help boost your fat loss results as opposed to hinder them. How? And how does The Rock incorporate his cheat meals? Well, first off and arguably most importantly is the psychological benefit having cheat meals while cutting provide. You'll exhibit long-term adherence and enjoyment to your diet when you have these planned ‘refeed day' to work towards in your workout meal plan and look forward to. Second, the temporary increase in calories and carbs by adding a cheat meal into your meal plan to get ripped has been shown to lead to better appetite suppression, higher energy expenditure, and increased performance in the following days. So how can you now go about incorporating cheat days into your plan properly? Be strategic with your planned indulgences if you choose to include cheat meals while cutting, but enjoy yourselves and remember that at the end of the day what's most important is the calorie deficit that you create over time and your long-term adherence to that. Which is why it's vital that you set up your diet based on what will enable you to accomplish those two factors most effectively. And if you do get off track, don't beat yourself up. Get back on the saddle and take it day by day. And for an easy to follow science based program that sets everything up for you, such that you know exactly how to train AND what to eat week after week without depriving yourself of the foods you love, so that you can lean down and burn off fat most effectively with science, then simply take the analysis quiz below to discover which specific program is best for you: https://quiz.builtwithscience.com/
Well-developed, big forearms are one of the most important features that you'll want to achieve. In addition to dramatically improving the appearance of your arms, they also play a vital role in strengthening your grip to handle more weight. But when most people aim to strengthen and build bigger forearms with a forearm workout, they fail to realize just how many forearm muscles there are and what their respective functions are, and think that a few sets of wrist curls and wrist extensions are all that's needed. And although these forearm exercises can help, they don't target all of the forearm muscles and their movement functions most effectively. So, in this podcast, I'll show you exactly how to get bigger forearms with 3 easy tips (with exercises for big forearms) so you can finally see the forearm growth you're after, fast. Now if you want to maximize and speed up growth in all of your muscles, not just your forearms, then it's important that you don't overlook crucial aspects of your program like your exercise selection, training volume, AND most importantly your nutrition. Otherwise, you simply won't be building muscle as fast as you could be. When it comes to which supplements to take and the best workout supplements that are backed by evidence – pre-workouts are definitely a top choice. But although pre-workout supplements are one of the most popular workout supplements within the fitness industry, most people just don't use them in a way that maximizes their effectiveness while minimizing any potential side effects. For example: how often you take your pre-workout, how much you take, and when you take it are all important factors that will affect how well the supplement will benefit your workouts. Luckily, in this podcast, I'll discuss exactly how to take pre-workout and how to use pre-workout in order to maximize its beneficial effects in a safe manner. *https://builtwithscience.com/quiz-pricing/gender
Sitting for the majority of the day can lead to the development of the posture where the head protrudes forward, the mid back and shoulders round forward, and the lower back arches excessively with an anterior tilt of the pelvis. Which can then lead to tightness and aches and pains in the neck, shoulders, lower back, and other areas. To reverse the adverse effects of sitting too much, I'll be showing you two quick and easy 5-minute corrective routines with 8 exercises for posture that you can do anywhere, that are designed to mobilize these tightened areas (fix rounded shoulders), strengthen the weakened muscles (fix hunchback posture), and work on correcting any asymmetries. I'd suggest aiming to perform both of these routines at the very least once a day, and ideally, each twice a day if you do sit quite a bit. As it's consistency and frequency with these routines is key. But, keep in mind as well though guys, that sitting is just part of the problem. I mean we see similar postural imbalances in those who stand all day as well. The real problem is not taking regular breaks, not being aware of your posture throughout the day, and just not moving enough in general. So focus on improving those aspects, while incorporating the exercises for better posture mentioned in this video, and you'll be able to create positive long-lasting changes and as a result, look, feel, and perform that much better. And for a step-by-step holistic program that shows you exactly how to train and eat to build muscle and lean down without overlooking key muscles like the ones shown in this video, then simply take the analysis quiz to discover which science-based program would be best for you and where your body is currently at below: *https://builtwithscience.com/quiz-pricing/gender

Creatine is one of the few supplements out there that is actually well-backed by research in terms of its effectiveness. However, there's a lot of confusion out there as to how to take creatine and how creatine works. In terms of “what does creatine do”, it simply allows a faster regeneration of ATP in our muscles. Since ATP is the main form of energy for our muscles, this enables us to perform an extra rep or two during our training. As for the best creatine to take and how to use creatine effectively, stick to creatine monohydrate and take your creatine with your post-workout meal. There seems to be a slight benefit to taking creatine post-workout, and it actually drastically improves its effectiveness by taking creatine with carbohydrates and protein. Now as for whether creatine causes hair loss or other side effects, research is inconclusive at the moment. Long-term creatine supplementation does not cause any adverse health effects but may increase DHT which is a hormone that accelerates male pattern baldness in those who are susceptible or have it in their family history. Thus, those who are susceptible may want to consider that. But more research is definitely needed – the findings aren't as serious as many people make it out to be. *Creatine Article (BUILTWITHSCIENCE.COM): https://builtwithscience.com/supplements/how-to-use-creatine/ *Science-Based Programs: https://builtwithscience.com/quiz-pricing/gender

Muscle soreness (also known as delayed onset muscle soreness or “DOMS”) is something we can all relate to. The sore legs and various other sore muscles we experience after a hard workout can be an uncomfortable feeling. If your muscle soreness after a workout sticks around until your next workout, this is going to negatively impact your workout AND further interfere with the muscle recovery process. Thus, it's essential that you optimize your muscle recovery after a workout in order to minimize muscle soreness - and no, ice baths or stretching after a workout won't help! One of the most common questions I get is: ‘What are the best supplements to build muscle? There's a ton of misinformation out there when it comes to the best supplements for muscle building and strength. In this podcast, I'll share the 4 best supplements that are worth considering to build muscle faster. Special guest: Dr. Brad Schoenfeld
Conventional wisdom has us convinced that high reps and light weights build muscle endurance and contribute little to muscle mass gains. However, is this a valid perspective? We need to look at the research to determine if heavy and light weight training cause different effects. After reviewing the research out there, it seems that using heavy or light weights doesn't matter much in terms of hypertrophy. Studies show that muscle growth tends to be equal despite using light or heavy weights (high rep vs low rep). But this is only true when going near failure, and one benefit of lifting heavy weights is the better strength gains you see when compared to light weights. Based on this, your best bet is to incorporate high reps with light weights AND low reps with heavy weights into your workout. This will enable you to target both metabolic stress and mechanical tension; both are essential mechanisms of muscle growth. “How to lose belly fat” is one of the most common questions out there. And that's understandable. Belly fat is really easy to gain and notoriously hard to lose. It can seem as though no matter what exercises you try to lose belly fat and no matter how well you eat, the belly fat just won't budge. And unfortunately, with the exception of surgery, there is currently no proven method of being able to spot and reduce fat from the belly. There is an exercise, however, that is incredibly underutilized yet powerfully effective when it comes to losing even the most stubborn belly fat. Today I'll share what that is and how you can start using it right away to lose belly fat. Trust me, the little things add up. Apply these tips and you'll be surprised by just how much they increase your step count and even more surprised by how much of a difference it makes towards your fat loss over time. That said guys, I want to emphasize that walking or any form of cardio is only effective for fat loss if it's used in combination with a diet. So use your diet as the primary way to create a calorie deficit and supplement it with walking to help speed up the process. Can you build muscle and lose fat at the same time? Yes–and it's known as body recomposition, where you build muscle and lose fat at the same time. However, recomp does come with a catch. We need to be at a calorie deficit in order to lose weight and strip off fat. But the drawback of being at a calorie deficit is that it severely compromises our ability to build muscle. However, this doesn't mean it's impossible to build muscle while losing fat, and in today's podcast, I'll share 3 steps for how to build muscle and lose fat at the same time. A body recomposition isn't ideal for everyone, but in the cases, I went through and with this protocol, it can be an effective way for you to shortcut your transformation. But, in the long run, you'll likely eventually want to transition to a dedicated muscle-building or fat-loss period and prioritize one or the other. And for an all-in-one, step-by-step program that shows you not only how to successfully achieve a body recomposition, but also then shows you exactly what to do afterward so that you can continue to strip off fat and build lean muscle as efficiently as possible with science, then simply take the analysis quiz below to discover which specific program is best for your body and where it's currently at: https://builtwithscience.com/quiz-pricing/gender
If you've attempted a weight loss diet plan of your own, then you're probably aware that at the end of the day, weight loss is all about calories in versus calories out. Scientifically speaking this is the basic law of thermodynamics for any fat-loss diet, but what this simplistic model fails to account for is how the various foods you put into your body then go about affecting these two variables. The truth is that you also need to pay close attention to the types of foods you're ingesting every day AND also how you go about ingesting them in your weight loss diet, as that's what makes all the difference. In this podcast, I'll go through how to eat to lose weight (with 3 diet swaps) that can enable you to lose fat faster and provide you with a sample fat-loss meal plan that puts this all together for you. Although some of the swaps I mention here CAN definitely help speed up the fat loss process, just know at the end of the day adhering to a calorie deficit is most important. So experiment with your diet and stick to what you find works best for you and your lifestyle. And for an all in one step-by-step program that not only optimizes your weekly workouts for you, but also shows you how to structure and set up your diet with the right foods and in the right amounts so that you can burn fat as efficiently as possible with science, then simply take the analysis quiz below to discover which specific program is best for your body and where it's currently at: Check my program: https://builtwithscience.com/quiz-pricing/gender
