In our first ever remote dialogue, Mpho invited her high school friend, Melissa Kabanguka, to discuss some of the reasons why gender-based violence is plaguing South Africa. This episode is the continuation of a discussion which started in episode sixteen, South Africa: Femicide.Melissa Gaju Kabanguka, AKA ‘Only_Gaj’, ‘Daughter of the moon and child of mother nature’, is a passionate East African creative, based in South Africa and proud founder of the YouTube web-series, MELisodes. Her work includes, modeling, photography, videography, spirituality and acting to say the least. She is a highly spiritual being who continues to learn and grow through the teachings of tarot and astrology. As a South African patriot, Mpho often uses her platforms to raise awareness on the increasing rate of femicide in the country. As a child who grew up observing domestic abuse and violence within her family and communities and then having experienced it herself, this topic is very near and dear to her heart. What happens when you put three poets in a room? Tune in to find out! This episode is the first of what we hope will become a consistent and fun game. No prizes. No hard rules. Just pure, sometimes hard fun. Here’s how it works:The guests have a jar filled with questions related to the game topic “three poets” and each poet takes a turn to draw a question from the jar. All guests will answer the question, providing little to no explanation. The person drawing the question has the power to ask any player, a follow-up question. The person being asked the follow-up question has the obligation to answer the question or use their out of jail card, which in this case will be to recite a short poem written by them. Note, the drawer is not obligated to ask a follow-up question. To set the tone for fun, laughter and sometimes ridiculousness, we invited Zarqui and Anthony to play. Please use this time to follow these amazing gentlemen on Instagram @zfrombaltimore and @chico_suave15 and if you don't follow us by now then please do the right thing @journeywithmpho We would love to connect with you through our mailing list so if you would like to sign up for regular show updates, tour dates and online store promotions click here

The first step to finding something we are looking for is to define and describe it. Otherwise, our search is futile. Love is one of those words with countless definitions and descriptions however, this does not invalidate the importance of knowing what it looks like and means to each of us. Initially, this episode had a singular focus and intention however, with the uprising and worldwide awakening that has been taking place, we decided to encourage you to shift the focus inward. We believe this is one of the best ways to effect outward change.
