In 1700, a doctor reported that five sisters in Oxfordshire, England were said to be “seized with frequent barking in the manner of dogs.” Purvis' The Hounding imagines what happens to these girls after a ferryman starts a dangerous rumor about them. In today's episode, Purvis talks with NPR's Scott Simon about rumors, gossip and the danger of being a girl in society. To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedayLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

Rickey Smiley and the crew spoke about various topics on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast today. President Donald Trump declared “Liberation Day” in Washington, D.C., issuing a public safety emergency, taking temporary federal control of the city’s police force, and deploying 800 National Guard troops—despite falling violent crime rates. Critics, as well as the mayor of Washington D.C., blasted the action as politically motivated overreach, citing the city's current downward crime trend and potential encroachment on local democracy. Questions continue to swirl around Jeffrey Epstein's death in federal custody, years after it was officially ruled a suicide. The conditions surrounding his death were so compromised—broken cameras, falsified logbooks, missing cellmate, and sleeping guards—that many find it hard to accept the official story at face value. The OIG report sharply criticized the Bureau of Prisons for a cascade of systemic failures that made Epstein's death not just possible but almost predictable. It painted a picture of negligence so extreme that it defies belief, and only deepened public suspicion. In a facility designed to house high-risk inmates under strict supervision, Epstein managed to die in the one moment when every safeguard mysteriously failed at once. That coincidence remains too perfect for comfort.Complicating matters further is the DOJ memo released years later that confidently declared the case closed—stating there was no evidence of foul play, no “client list,” and no outstanding leads. But that memo glossed over many of the issues raised in the OIG report, failing to explain how such a high-profile inmate could be left so vulnerable, and offering no reconciliation between the security failures and the final conclusions. It gave the appearance of a government eager to move on rather than get answers. The disconnect between the two reports leaves a credibility gap, with the public forced to choose between bureaucratic closure and lingering, unanswered questions. For many, the Epstein case didn't end with his death—it was buried with it.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Inside the Jeffrey Epstein death report and the TEN troubling questions the DOJ refuses to explain | Daily Mail Online

Edition No140 | 09-05-2025 - Brace yourselves for an extraordinary piece of speculation. A friend alerted me to rumours swirling around Moscow of another potential threat to the life of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Perhaps that's not a surprise, given that his senseless war has caused upwards of a million Russian to be grievously wounded or lose their lives and trashed the economy. What is a surprise is that only one media publication I could find seems to have covered this story from this angle, despite the dramatic inferences that can be made. The UK paper The Mirror dramatically announced on 6th May that Vladimir Putin's electrician for his 'secret Valdai palace' blown up in 'assassination attempt'. But who was the assassination against? The electrician, or ultimately Putin himself? The story has been covered in other quarters of the press in a conventional fashion, that follows the information provided by Russian press services, without questioning it at all. Massive gas explosion in Moscow apartment block. Now such explosions are not unknown in Russia. True, they are less likely in Moscow which tends to have a better standard of infrastructure and maintenance. But in the context of the full-scale war, and personal shortages such occurrences may be occurring with greater frequency. But the issue here, is that anonymous witness who visited the scene have claimed there was no smell of gas. Yet the explosion was substantial. Reports suggest a smell of gunpowder instead, and the immediate security blanket thrown over the incident suggests a cover up.----------Links: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/vladimir-putins-electrician-secret-palace-35177395 ----------Your support is massively appreciated! The controversy surrounding Virginia Roberts Giuffre's “four days to live” post erupted into chaos almost instantly. As one of the most visible accusers in the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell trafficking scandal, Giuffre's sudden and cryptic tweet — “I have four days to live” — sent shockwaves through social media. The ominous message, posted without explanation, triggered immediate alarm. Conspiracy theorists speculated she was under threat from powerful figures tied to the Epstein network, while supporters feared for her safety. In a case already riddled with suspicious deaths and sealed documents, her words were seen as either a desperate cry for help or a grim warning of what happens to whistleblowers who get too close to the truth. But when Giuffre later clarified that the tweet referred to a personal situation — not a real threat on her life — the backlash was swift. Critics and commentators began to question her credibility, accusing her of fueling unnecessary panic and manipulating public emotion. Some argued that the ambiguity of her statement was reckless, especially given the high-profile nature of the Epstein case and the fragile trust placed in survivor testimonies. Even some of her supporters admitted the post had damaged the public's perception of her reliabilityto contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Revealed: Why Jeffrey Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre was charged by cops - just days before claiming she was on her 'deathbed' after bus crash | Daily Mail Online
