Happy New Year! Please understand that you have influence. Everybody’s circle is different, made up of different people. Regardless, someone in that circle or community is watching you, and you affect how they see things or look at certain situations. That is powerful to realize. Whether it’s a brother, sister, son, daughter, wife, husband, co-worker, there are eyes on you. I encourage you to take that into consideration in 2021 and beyond! I’m committing to just hitting the record button and focusing on quantity over quality when it comes to most content. The reason for this is that I know some of these words have helped at least one person. I would hate for a message to not be put out because of my worry about quality, when someone could’ve really used that information to help them in whatever they have going on.
Brad Niemeier has a phenomenal story. He earned a walk-on spot at Purdue University after a campus tryout, which is extremely rare. He then went on to win a business competition and start Azzip Pizza, a fast casual Pizza restaurant. Azzip now has 10 locations, and it all started in Brad's college house right off of Purdue's campus, where he experimented on different versions of his pies that fed his teammates and friends. We dive into Brad's football journey and then transition into his growing Pizza chain that continues to expand. From the challenges of being a walk-on, to his thoughts on business and entrepreneurship, Brad drop plenty of gems in this classic episode. This was a great episode where I got to share my recruiting story. In a conversation with my big brother, Tim Smith, we got the story of how I ended up at Purdue University. It really was an unlikely story, and I'm still unsure how it all went down. I'm glad I got the chance to share this story with you and I hope in some way, it provides value for you. Thanks for listening.
A lot of senior football players are struggling to make a decision on whether to walk-on to a larger FBS/FCS football program, or go the smaller school route and be a key player. This a tremendously tough situation to be in. In this episode, Kyle explores the typical career of a Walk-On and brings up three items to consider when approaches with a walk-on opportunity.
This week's episode explores the conversation around 7 on 7 and privatized football. I speak with Coaches Chad Spann and Eric Hooks from Indy Select Academy, one of the premier football clubs in Indiana. The split world of HS Football vs. 7 on 7/Private training is really interesting to me, and it was great to gain some perspective from guys that I feel are doing it the right way and coach on both sides of the conversation. Chad is a former NFL Running Back and Northern Illinois Great. He's currently the Offensive Coordinator at Warren Central, one of the powerhouse high schools in Indianapolis. On top of coaching at a 6A high school, he is the Director of Indy Select Academy. Eric Hooks is a former Quarterback that played for NAIA University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, IN. He played in multiple National Championships and has coached all levels of talent and age groups through Indy Select. He is the Head Coach and has a clear vision for this team and organization.
