Isn't it time to shut off the noise and simplify your life?  Join us as we chill out with Claire Pedrick who shares her journey beginning with her work teaching in Kenya to mastering the art of coaching, and how her walk in the Camino de Santiago reshaped her approach to life. Get inspired by her tales of how she disrupted the status quo, learned that less is more, and how music, conversation, the human touch, and making our days simpler and less complicated, will bring greater joy to our lives.  Claire Pedrick's Bio:Claire is a human who facilitates other people's thinking. A business owner. A Mother. A friend. A volunteer. An MCC Master Coach with over 15000 hours experience. The author of Simplifying Coaching and The Human Behind The Coach and host at The Coaching Inn podcast. All of these are true and each will impact how we start a conversation. With some definitions you might assign power which Claire does not deserve. She established 3D Coaching in the 1990s to bring together the simplest and best learning from coaching to support people in organizations to have more effective conversations with an edge.  Coaching for more than 35 years, Claire believes that the essence of coaching is simple and that it takes time to learn to work that simply. Her training has been as a coach (Coach University), as a Systemic Practitioner (Coaching Constellations) and a Coaching Supervisor (Bath Consulting Group). While the rest of the 3D Team are delivering high quality coaching, her current focus is developing internal and external coaches through training, masterclasses and mentoring.  Her learning lab is the coaches she listens to three days a week.  Based on those observations and noticing when transformation does or does not happen, my current learning journey is about understanding and sharing what makes for true partnership in coaching.   Every so often she go for a very long walk - in 2022 to celebrate her 60th birthday, it was 600km on the Camino in Spain. She's back to Portugal for another long walk this year. And if credentials matter Claire received the 2022 Outstanding Contribution to Coaching Award from Henley Business School for being a coach and a Points of Light Award from the UK Prime Minister for being a human!Want to connect with Claire? This episode is brought to you by LMNT! Spelled LMNT. What is LMNT? It's a delicious, sugar-free electrolyte drink-mix. I tried this recently after hearing about it on another podcast, and since then, I've stocked up on boxes and boxes of this and usually use it 1–2 times per day. LMNT is a great alternative to other commercial recovery and performance drinks. As a coach or an athlete, you will not find a better product that focuses on the essential electrolyte your body needs during competition. LMNT has become a staple in my own training and something we are excited to offer to our coaches and student-athletes as well. LMNT is used by Military Special Forces teams, Team USA weightlifting, At least 5 NFL teams, and more than half the NBA. You can try it risk-free. If you don't like it, LMNT will give you your money back no questions asked. They have extremely low return rates. LMNT came up with a very special offer for you as a listener to this podcast. For a limited time, you can claim a free LMNT Sample Pack—you only cover the cost of shipping. For US customers, this means you can receive an 8-count sample pack for only $5. Simply go to DrinkLMNT.com/contacts to claim your free 8-count sample pack. Coach Chelsea speaks wih Coach Simmons as she takes the helm at the University of Memphis. We speak about her plans, her faith in God, Servant Leadership, and apply those principles to her assignment as Head Coach. Two-time NCAA National Champion and Tennessee native Alex Simmons was named the head coach of the Memphis Tiger women's basketball team on April 6, 2023 and became the 13th head coach in the program's history.    Simmons comes to Memphis after five seasons at the helm of Gardner-Webb where she led the team to a 90-59 record including a 29-5 mark this past season. The Runnin' Bulldogs broke multiple program, school and Big South records with their 29 victories and a 21-game win streak that included a perfect 18-0 record in conference play. GWU captured the regular season and championship titles for the program's first trip to the Big Dance since the 2010-11 season.  Simmons, who was named as the Big South Coach of the Year, saw four of her five starters earn All-Big South honors in 2022-23, while Jhesskya Williams became just the third player in Gardner-Webb history to surpass 2,000 career points, finishing as the program's second all-time leading scorer with 2,049 points.   Simmons' basketball roots run deep to one of the most respected programs in the game. She played collegiately at the University of Tennessee under basketball Hall of Fame coach Pat Summitt from 2004-2009, helping the Lady Vols win back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 2007 and 2008.   Simmons was a member of three Final Four squads (2005, 2007, 2008) and another Elite Eight team (2006) while serving as a team captain and was also the Lady Vols representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).   During the 2021-22 season, Simmons steered the Dogs to an overall record of 11-13 and 10-7 in the Big South. Under Simmons, Alasia Smith was named the Big South Freshman of the Year after the five-time Freshman of the Week averaged 11.3 PPG, 8.3 RPG and led the conference with 4.0 offensive rebounds per game.   Simmons led the Runnin' Bulldogs to an 18-11 overall record and 13-7 in Big South Conference play in 2019-20, finishing fifth in the league standings. GWU ended the season on a hot streak, winning four-straight games and seven of their last eight matchups before play was halted prior to the Big South tournament.   Under Simmons, Carley Plentovich earned a handful of accolades during the 2019-20 season, including All-Big South honors, as well as a Big South Player of the Week award. She also became the program's 24th 1,000-point scorer, the first under Simmons, and was named to the Big South's All-Academic team.   In her first season in Boiling Springs, Simmons led Gardner-Webb to a 16-15 record and 10-8 Big South mark in 2018-19 with a fifth-place finish. Two players - Plentovich and Williams – would earn All-Big South honors.   Simmons took over the Runnin' Bulldogs in April 2018 after assistant coaching stints at Ole Miss (2013-2018) and Middle Tennessee State (2010-2013). She also served as a graduate assistant coach at Kansas (2009-2010).     Prior to her time at Ole Miss, Simmons served as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State, helping the Blue Raiders to three NCAA Tournament appearances during her time on the bench. Her work with the team's post players produced an honorable-mention All-America selection and in the 2011-2012 season saw the Blue Raiders grab the most rebounds since 1983.   Also a Street & Smith's All-America Honorable Mention selection in 2001 and 2002, Simmons helped the Golden Eaglettes to Tennessee State Championships in 2001, 2003 and 2004. She was a three-time All-State selection, four-time All-District choice and was named as the Mid-State Player of the Year in 2003.   She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2008 with a degree in exercise science. Simmons and her husband, Christian, have two daughters – Carsyn and Channing.  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chefranjohn/support

On this special edition of Mixtape Talk, I speak with Memphis University Head Coach Kerrick Jackson. Coach Jackson is one of the most respected coaches in the fraternity of Black skippers. He has coached at every collegiate level and spent time away from coaching, serving as an MLB scout, baseball agent (with the Boras Corporation), and the President of the MLB Draft League. In 2017, he led Southern University from 9 wins (2018) to the SWAC Championship and a birth in the NCAA tournament in 2019. In June 2022, at the time of his hire, Jackson became the 3rd Black coach selected to lead a PWI DI program and the first Black coach ever to lead the Memphis Tigers. As he says in the conversation, his selection was not only the right hire based on merit but also a statement appointment for the University and the community of Memphis. This conversation is insightful and fun. Please follow Memphis Baseball and the Black Baseball Mixtape.

Matt Luke has checked a lot of boxes in his career from being the Head Coach at his alma mater, Ole Miss, to winning the 2021 FBS National Championship as the Offensive Line Coach of the Georgia Bulldogs. Coach Luke spoke at the 2022 COOL Clinic and illustrated how he groups his play schemes for install, learning, and communication. Shownotes: -Career and stepping away after a national championship -movement from huddle to uptempo -importance of language -inside zone -gap schemes -pin and pull -protection One advantage to having clear and concise ;language that has definitive meaning for your players is that it allows you to effectively and efficiently make adjustments as well as communicate with staff as the game is going. A tremendous tool for making adjustments on Friday nights is your instant replay system, but the effectiveness is very dependent on having great technology and that's where our partner of the Coach and Coordinator Podcast SportScope excels. When you go feature by feature and compare SportScope to the competition, it's a no-brainer. From the speed in which you can access video from the previous play to what it will cost you program, SportScope wins in all regards, SportScope gives you easy and predictive play tagging, picture in picture angle switching, smart features like sorting clips and play lockers for use of important clips at halftime, as well as giving you live in game opponent stats and tendencies Technology can certainly provide advantages on game day, but only if you can trust it and maximize its effectiveness. For an episode on how to exactly do that, listen to Douglas Rivers, 6x state champion at nationally ranked Dutch Fork HS and see how SportScope helps them win.
