The Making It in Asheville podcast is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in learning more about Asheville, entrepreneurship, and the businesses and individuals that make the city thrive. The hosts, Sarah and Tony, ask insightful and in-depth questions, allowing listeners to gain a deeper understanding of what drives people to start and build successful businesses in western North Carolina. Whether you live in Asheville or not, this podcast is a great way to be motivated, inspired, and learn about what it takes to grow a small business.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is its focus on showcasing the amazing businesses that contribute to the vibrant culture of western NC. The interviews with locals provide an exciting glimpse into the local culture and inspire a sense of adventure in exploring all that Asheville has to offer. The hosts' fresh perspective as newly transplanted residents adds an element of appreciation for what makes Asheville unique and motivates listeners to pursue their passions.
Another great aspect of Making It in Asheville is its ability to connect with various demographics. The episodes cover a wide range of industries and professions, offering valuable insights that can be applied regardless of where you live.
While this podcast offers many positives, one potential downside is the vocal style of the hosts and some guests. Some listeners may find the use of up talk (rising intonation at the end of sentences) and vocal fry (a creaky or low-pitched vocal quality) distracting or off-putting. However, this should not deter from the valuable content and engaging conversations that take place on Making It in Asheville.
In conclusion, The Making It in Asheville podcast is a must-listen for anyone interested in entrepreneurship, small business growth, or learning more about the unique culture of Asheville. Sarah and Tony's thoughtful interviews provide a wealth of knowledge and inspiration, while their genuine passion for the city shines through in every episode. "Start with Why" behind the scenes of a business launch. In this episode, we talk about about how nailing a business's "why" is essential for a powerful marketing message. Then you get to be a fly on the wall during a preliminary conversation with the owners and founders of South Slope Pilates, a soon-to-open pilates studio in Asheville. We're Launching a New Business! In this mini-season, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at a small business launch plan. Over the years we've been asked many times by this audience for ideas concepts or strategies we might use if we were launching a business in Asheville. In this season we don't need to be hypothetical. We'll show you exactly how we think about launching a business in town. Next week, you'll meet the founders and owners and hear the "Why" of the business. The following week, we'll look at the "How's" both with respect to the company and the launch plan. And, finally, we'll share "What" tactically we've done during the launch. Our hope is that this mini-season inspires you to take another look at your own business, helps you to take the leap into the business you've been dreaming about, or, at the very least, provides a unique perspective —under the hood— as we build a new business in town.
Rockgeist and Greg Hardy In this episode, I recount the conversation I had with Greg Hardy at his 3000 square-foot studio in North Asheville. While normally we interview guests on this podcast, unfortunately, the audio of our conversation was corrupted. This episode is a report of sorts on the highlights from our interview. In this episode, you'll hear more about what bikepacking is (and how you can get started with the help of Rockgeist), you will hear how Greg started by selling his own, used bikepack bags on eBay, and how that has built his team to 9 people today. And finally, you'll hear an uncommon but intuitive approach to buying a business in your industry. While it's not the same as the conversation, I hope you enjoy this episode about Rockgeist!
