The cost of prescription drugs is high—particularly in the US where consumers pay nearly three times more than those in 33 other nations in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. One factor in prices is fluorination, which plays a crucial role in the production of many widely-used pharmaceuticals. Driven by the high cost of reagents needed for the trifluoromethyl (CF₃) group, the process is expensive—and hard on the natural environment. If there was a way to make fluorination more accessible, sustainable, and affordable—it could reshape how we approach drug synthesis—and much else in chemistry.Chemist and Harvard Griffin GSAS PhD candidate Brandon Campbell has developed an innovative method of fluorination that could do just that. Using silver and visible light, Campbell's pioneering approach promises a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to traditional synthetic methods.

In Antarctica's frigid waters, a small shrimp-like plankton uses a clever survival strategy. It kidnaps a tiny snail-like pteropod to protect itself. The pteropod produces a chemical that deters fish from eating the plankton, but after some time, the plankton releases the pteropod to continue its search for another one. This extraordinary behavior is not a product of chance, but rather, the design of an all-wise Creator. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1232/29

INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None Throughout both modern and ancient human history harmful ingredients, intentionally or unintentionally, have wound up in commercial foods. On the intentional side, that practice is called swindling or introducing improvements to make products better. Either way, the object is to make more money. On the unintentional side, the addition of poisons to foods is accidental. In this episode, a few examples of the former are examined taken from the early 20th century. Shawn shares his personal journey from battling imposter syndrome and suicidal thoughts to discovering self-love through psychedelic experiences. The episode explores the importance of safety, integration, and the impact of psychedelics on personal and professional growth. Shawn offers insights into optimizing brain health, supplements, and creating an environment conducive to healing and growth. 00:00 Introduction and Initial Reflections 00:22 Welcome to the Psychedelic Coach Podcast 01:10 Meet Shawn Wells: Accomplishments and Identity 02:44 The Turning Point: Embracing Psychedelics 07:55 The First Psychedelic Experience 09:37 Realizations and Integration 13:03 The Journey of Healing and Growth 24:37 The Importance of Safety in Psychedelic Spaces 28:52 Exploring Parazanthine and Brain Health 48:32 Exploring Mitochondrial Health 52:29 Understanding Neuroplasticity and Microdosing 56:59 The Power of Echo Dosing 01:03:06 Navigating Emotional States 01:07:35 The Truth About Supplements 01:12:29 Parazanthine: The New Energy Booster 01:14:37 Final Thoughts and Reflections Overcoming the Past: The Weight of Achievements Shawn candidly opens up about his past, marked by trauma and an excessive drive for achievement. Despite a successful career, with numerous patented ingredients and a bestselling biohacking book, Shawn reveals that his accomplishments were once tied to conditional love and recognition. It was during his first psychedelic journey that he realized he was worthy of unconditional love. This epiphany became the cornerstone of his transformation. The Turning Point: Embracing Psychedelics Inspired by thought leaders like Tim Ferriss and Dave Asprey, Ben Greenfield Shawn ventured into the psychedelic realm. His first experience, facilitated by Tah and Kole, was both terrifying and enlightening. Surrounded by warmth and acceptance, Shawn experienced a profound shift—learning he could be loved simply for being himself. Integration: The Ongoing Process The psychedelic experience was a catalyst, but Shawn emphasizes the importance of integration. Post-ceremony efforts involved distancing from unsupportive relationships, embracing conscious uncoupling, and reevaluating career choices. These changes, along with ongoing self-work and facilitated sessions, helped Shawn develop deeper relationships and inner peace. Science Meets Spirituality: Enhancing Experiences As a formulator, Shawn began exploring how supplements could augment psychedelic journeys. By focusing on brain health and neuroplasticity, he developed stacks that aid in pre and post-journey integration. Parazanthine, a caffeine metabolite, is one such compound that supports cognitive function and energy without the typical side effects of caffeine. Creating Safe Spaces: The Role of a Facilitator Shawn's journey highlights the value of skilled facilitation in processing trauma and enhancing psychedelic experiences. He stresses the need for facilitators to create environments that promote safety and acceptance, allowing participants to explore their inner depths without fear. Evolving the Path: The Echo Dosing Concept Shawn introduces the concept of echo dosing—microdosing with elements of past transformative experiences to reinforce the gains made. By integrating sensory triggers like music and aromas from the original journey, individuals can deepen their integration and continue personal growth in their daily lives.

However, Chemist also has a facility in historic Biltmore Village, which is located alongside the Swannanoa River and experienced flooding. The Twenty Minute VC: Venture Capital | Startup Funding | The Pitch
Mark Goldberg is a Managing Partner and Co-Founder at Chemistry, a $350M fund announced just yesterday with the mission to lead the best seed and Series A rounds. Before Chemistry, Mark was a Partner at Index Ventures, where he led early stage investments in Plaid, Bridge, Pilot, Anrok and Persona. Prior to Index Ventures, Mark was one of the first business hires at Dropbox. In Today's Episode with Mark Goldberg We Discuss: 1. The Truth About Multi-Stage Firms: Why are portfolio services there to help the investing partners and not the founders? What are the most broken elements within a multi-stage firm? How does decision-making break down in large partnerships? When is the right time to work with multi-stage firms? When is not? 2. From Boutique High Margins to Commoditised Low Margins: With the immense amount of cash that has entered VC, will returns simply get worse? Who will be the winners in the next 10 years of venture? Who will be the losers? What can they do today to change this? What element of the future of venture are not enough people spending time on? 3. Lessons from Leading Unicorn Company Rounds: What happens to all the unicorns with insanely high prices they cannot grow into? What has been Mark's biggest hit? What did he learn? What has been his biggest miss? How did that change his go-forward approach? Does Mark agree that 90% of VC do not add value?
