To be eclipsed is to fall into shadow. Astronomical eclipses occur about four times a year, when one of the luminaries is cast into darkness. We too can be cast into darkness, thrown into life experiences that bring us down into the depths of our personal underworlds. Just as the Sun and Moon go dark, so can we. Eclipses were seen as a malefic omen to ancient people, but we know that we need the symbolic dark in order to understand the part of life that is filled with light. In the hero's journey, in myths, the experience of katabasis, of “going under” occurs when the protagonist travels to the underworld, to retrieve or discover some life-altering wisdom, enlightenment, or gift. There is fertility in darkness. Join us in this episode, which we created during “eclipse season” in the late winter of 2025, to explore stories of descent and rising, of occultation and resurrection. Our listener dream analysis focuses on someone's dream of floating up in the sky.

One of the most archetypal experiences we undergo in this lifetime is the search for the "other." We move through the world as individuals, learning and growing on our own path of development, but eventually, we begin to yearn for another to share space and time with. Enter the symbol of the lover. Is the beloved a mirror? A focal point of projections that teaches us something about ourselves? An angel? A secret challenge to our sense of self? How can we undo the tight laces of "Me" and unfold into a "We"? This episode explores these questions. With cues from the Lovers card in the tarot, the myth of Psyche and Eros, medieval romantic courtly love, and our own reflections on love, and the beloved, this episode is our Valentine's Day gift to the world :) At the episode's end, we analyze a dream that involves Hekate and wild animals. ANNOUNCEMENTCristina's signature class, The School of Astrological Arcana (formerly called The Art of Chart Interpretation, and The School of Divine Sympathies - forgive her Gemini Moon!!) is open for enrollment!! "As above so below, as within so without," is one of the most famous maxims of the occult world, a phrase shared and repeated by those who explore the wonders of the mythic and the magical, the symbolic and the unknown. This phrase comes to us from the Emerald Tablet, a Hellenistic text by Hermes Trismegistus. The meaning, though sounding like a riddle, is that what happens in the greater cosmos impacts and is a reflection of what occurs on the mundane, human realm, and that our experiences and potentials as human beings are a reflection of the cosmos. This episode explores the symbolic concept of the macrocosm and microcosm, our innate connection to the divine, and our place in the fabric of life. Witches are people who have the power to heal or to harm, the sacred encapsulation of life and death. As a result of this, witches are personified as revolting, terrifying, uncontrollable expressions of the dark feminine, often banished to the edges of society. Just in time for the thinning of the veil, this episode of Soror Mystica explores the symbol of the witch, in all her complex detail. Many of us seek to “reclaim the witch,” but what does this really mean? What is it that we seek to re-integrate, and how can we deepen our understanding of the witch in the process of that reclamation? We chat about the myth of Lilith, the binary of the maiden temptress and the “evil hag,” Circe, Medea, Hekate, projections of the masculine, the shadow of the witch, and so much more. We hope each witch listening finds something inspiring here. Mariana presents a tripartite dream of crabs - a horseshoe crab, a stone crab, and a hermit crab - for our analysis. Special thanks to this episode's ad partner, The Inspirited Word (https://www.inspiritedword.com) and Dawn Hemstreet Jewelry (https://hawkhummingbirdmoon.com or @dawnhemstreet.jewelry on IG)

The pearl! A luminescent, oceanic gemstone, created in the briny deep, the result of an intrusive grain of sand. Pearls are usually associated with the feminine, with Venus-Aphrodite, as a symbol of purity and beauty, or perhaps an expression of lunar consciousness. This episode pushes the understanding of the pearl beyond these expectations, as we explore adjacent stories in which characters are searching for the soul. From the gnostic story of Thomas searching for a pearl at the bottom of the ocean, to Percival and the Grail Myth, the famous Medieval “Pearl” poem about a lost daughter, St. George and the Dragon, we explore whether the search for the pearl is about the redemption of the feminine, or unification with the self. This episode's listener symbol is a dream about a toad!Special thanks to this episode's ad partner, the Inspirited Word podcast: https://www.inspiritedword.comCristina's School of Divine Sympathies: a Foundational Course in Mythic Astrology is open for registration! What does it mean to be “maiden”? The maiden is most famously known as one-third of the feminine triad, and along with the mother and crone, symbolizes a particular kind of life force in the cyclic flow of life. But what happens when we hold the maiden on her own, what does her form suggest, and how can we better understand this symbol? In this episode, we explore the archetypal details of the maiden, from Kore Persephone to the Vestal Virgin, touching in again and again with the reminder that the maiden is a symbol of completeness, of self-enclosed power and self-knowing, of authenticity, imminence, and potential. Registration for Mariana's Archetypal Tarot School is now open! We live in a magical moment where so many of us are turning away from established religion, and seeking spirituality on our own in nature, in divination, and so many other modalities. At first blush, the swan impresses us with its dazzling white feathers and graceful posture, conjuring images of ballerinas or fairytale settings. But what does the swan offer us beyond the image of beauty and grace?Swans appear in myths often as emblems of solar, masculine gods, like Apollo or Zeus. In alchemy, the swan symbolizes  a union of opposites, and can be found in the “albedo,” or the whitening phase of bringing clarity to the soul. And what of the “swan song”? According to the ancient Greeks, the swan was thought to sing a beautiful song of lament, to greet death as it approached us. Join us in this episode as we explore the swan as a symbol of duality, far more complex than meets the eye. Our listener dream symbol asks us to consider the appearance of a trickster-witch. Special thanks to this episode's ad partner Tangerine Sage Healing, and Moon Magic Wellness!https://www.tangerinesagehealing.com@tangerinesagehealinghttps://www.moonmagicwellness.com@moonmagicwellness

We're all well aware of the archetype of the witch—the mysterious woman, often seen as an outsider who lives alone on the fringes of society, who works in secrecy to perfect her magic spells, lunar rituals, and banquets with the Devil. Though stories and depictions of the witch are wild and variegated, one detail of her life is quite consistent; the witch is always accompanied by her familiar. The familiar is a small creature who lives with the witch, who helps her perform her rites and rituals. Familiars can be cats, dogs, hares, toads, crows—the list is quite endless. Some believed that the witch's familiar was an extension of her, something she shape-shifted into to make mischief. Others believed familiars to be small demons, proof of her connection with the Devil himself. In this episode, we unravel the symbol of the familiar, explore the ways in which a woman's connection to nature via the animal world was “othered” by the Christian world, and reflect on our own experiences with nature, familiars, and animal allies. This episode's dream comes to us from your co-host Cristina, who shares a triple dream of centaurs and horses.
