**REPOST** On this week's annotated deep dive, The Cultists Present Ari Aster's ‘Midsommar' (2019). The horror genre has long been a place of shadows. And yet, what happens when those horrors are brought into direct light? Can grief, heartbreak, graduate thesis work, and human sacrifice all still thrive under the warm glowing rays of the midnight sun? Aster's sophomore film sets forth to find out. As such, The Cultists welcome in the encroaching autumn with a scenic tour through the incredible landscape of Aster's reimagined lore-laden fairy tale. (Because nothing says “summer” like downing home grown psychedelics in the warm lit sunshine with a folksy Swedish death cult.)(Topics include: allusions and inspirations from Swedish folk artists (John Bauer to Hilma af Klint); the challenge of filming outdoors; and so much Nordic folklore (Ättestupa, the old “blood eagle,” runes, beserkers, and more!) Episode Safeword: “metropolitan” (REPOSTED Episode from 2020 that traveled over from the old Anchor platform with a broken link).

Feeling the summer slump? You're not alone. In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on what my farm stand has taught me about marketing over the past six weeks—no funnels, no formulas, just real-life strategy that started with a couple of Facebook Marketplace listings and turned into repeat customers, word-of-mouth magic, and a three-figure week. From why relevance beats volume to the power of a good photo and what it means to truly connect with your people, I'm walking you through 12 business truths that snuck up on me while I was just trying to sell some cucumbers. This week, I'm sharing a real-time glimpse into what it looks like when something clicks — when your business starts to connect in a way you can feel. The farm stand is only a few weeks old, but the response? Immediate. Loyal. Deep. It's reminding me of something I've always believed but hadn't felt this strongly in a while: the best brands don't sell — they make you want to join the club. I'm talking through how that's unfolding, what it means for how we show up in business, and why availability, curiosity, and collaboration might just be the secret sauce. Plus a quick look at what's blooming (and stalling) in the garden, how I'm navigating platform shifts, and a quote that hit me square in the gut. If you're in the in-between — in your garden, your content, or your offers — this one's for you. RESOURCES MENTIONED NOTE: Some links below contain affiliate/referral links. Hey, hey — welcome back to the show. Today is a very special episode, because we're celebrating 10 years — yep, a full decade — of this podcast. And if you've ever wondered what it really takes to show up for something week after week for 525-ish weeks… this is the episode. I'm pulling back the curtain on how it started, what almost made me quit before I even launched, and the one person who's been with me from episode one: my editor, Zach — aka the podcast man himself. This is the first real-time conversation we've ever had in ten years of working together, and it's packed with reflection, behind-the-scenes chaos, unexpected confessions, and a whole lot of gratitude. So whether you've listened since the closet-recording days or you're brand new here — thank you. Let's celebrate what it means to stay the course, trust the journey, and keep the mic on anyway. So I wasn't planning on pulling a business lesson out of my garden this week… but here we are. This episode started as a house update and a chat about summer reading and YouTube stats — and somehow ended with me sitting on the floor of a storage container, feeling completely ripped off by a gardening educator I thought was original. Spoiler: she wasn't. And I've got the 2007 notebook paper to prove it. We're talking about what happens when people build brands on borrowed ideas — and don't give credit. The difference between inspiration and appropriation. And how easy it is to miss those lines when quantity starts to outweigh quality. If you've ever bought into a membership or method and later felt a little… duped? This one's for you. Let's get into it. RESOURCES MENTIONED NOTE: Some links below contain affiliate/referral links. Boss Girl Creative Podcast | A Podcast for Female Creative Entrepreneurs
This week, I'm taking you behind the scenes of one of the most emotionally chaotic, logistically packed, spiritually sobering 48 hours I've had in a long time — but what anchored me through it all? A single sentence from a U.S. Olympian on Top Chef, of all places. It stopped me in my tracks and gave me the business pep talk I didn't know I needed: pressure is a privilege. So in this episode, we're pulling that thread — what it means, how it shows up, and why it might just be the quiet mindset shift you need if you've been feeling the weight of trying to grow something real in the middle of life being… a lot. I'm also catching you up on the chaos (garage door vandals, grief, garden wins, and Jeep purchases), sharing a Hilma product that's actually working for me, and walking through the real-time shifts I'm making inside my routine and my content rhythm. Because around here? It's part journal, part business strategy, and part reminder that growth is rarely tidy — but always worth it. In this episode, we journey across time and dimensions to bridge the gap between worlds with two extraordinary individuals: Hilma af Klint and Alan Turing. Hilma af Klint, a visionary artist who didn't just paint what she saw, but painted vibrations and spoke directly to spirit. Her work was a gateway to the spiritual world, intended to be hidden and serve a future time that was ready for its revolutionary message. Alan Turing, a brilliant mind of logic and code. Known for his pivotal work and even featured on the 50-pound note, he embodied a profound paradox, reflecting society's fear of what it couldn't categorize. Together, they represent a bridge between seemingly separate realms: logic and beauty, science and spirituality. They stand at the meeting point of the intuitive and the intelligent, the mystical and the methodical, bridging the age of separation with an age of synthesis. Through their insights, we explore concepts like sacred geometry giving form to reality, the radical idea that everything is perfect from a higher perspective, and how our perspective is the key to understanding the many dimensions of existence beyond what we can normally perceive. Join us as we delve into their purpose, their paradoxes, and how we are becoming the bridge to a new understanding of reality. If you listen to the very end, you'll receive a gift from Hilma and Alan - an energy imprint – a quantum key to align you with higher awareness To book a spirit guide session with Christy, click below: Christy Levy

Hilma's Ghost is a feminist artist collective co-founded by artists and educators Dannielle Tegeder and Sharmistha Ray that fuses contemporary art with modern spirituality through forms of divination and ritual. Named after the Swedish artist and mystic, Hilma af Klint, the collective's work is a critique of gendered power structures, providing a critical and revolutionary platform for rethinking gender in the arts while recovering feminist histories as its ballast for critique. Their work ranges from the traditional to the esoteric, including paintings and drawings, surrealist games, The Abstract Futures tarot deck, ritual object-based installations, pedagogical workshops, curated exhibitions, community projects, performances, and artist books. Hilma's Ghost has been featured in solo, collaborative, and group exhibitions and projects at such esteemed institutions as The Guggenheim, The Armory Show, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Museu de Arte de São Paulo in Brazil, Galería RGR in Mexico City among many others. Reviews of their work have appeared in The New York Times, The Brooklyn Rail, Artnet, and Hyperallergic. And their brand new mystical mosaic installation, ABSTRACT FUTURES, was created in partnership with NYC's MTA and is on display for the public in perpetuity at the 42nd St – Grand Central Subway Station now. On this episode, Hilma's Ghost speaks about the magic of abstraction, the alchemy of collaborative work, and how art can expand consciousness. (They also give a special Abstract Futures tarot reading to help guide us in this time of tumult and transformation).Pam also talks about the mystical history of the abstract art movement, and answers a listener question about how to be a minimalist witch.Check out the video of this episode over on YouTube (and please like and subscribe to the channel while you're at it!)Our sponsors for this episode are Woodland Magic, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, BetterHelp, and TU·ET·AL soap We also have print-on-demand merch like Witch Wave shirts, sweatshirts, totes, stickers, and mugs available now here, and all sorts of other bewitching goodies available in the Witch Wave shop. And if you want more Witch Wave, please consider supporting us on Patreon to get access to detailed show notes, bonus Witch Wave Plus episodes, Pam's monthly online rituals, and more! Ceri interviews award winning filmmaker Halina Dyrschka, whose documentary "Beyond the Visible: Hilma af Klint" brought worldwide attention to the pioneer of abstract art. Halina shares her creative experiences, from acting and classical singing to filmmaking, the challenges of securing funding for her documentary and her battle against institutional gatekeeping in the art world. She also talks about how artists can embrace true creativity by recognising the essentialness of exploration and that reality is often overrated! KEY TAKEAWAYS Halina's creative journey began in acting and classical singing, but frustration with the narrow minded theatre system led her to filmmaking, to maintain creative independence and tell stories that matter to her. When first seeing Hilma af Klint's work, Halina experienced an immediate emotional connection and became angry at how institutions had overlooked such powerful art, revealing systemic problems in museum culture. The art world often operates on institutional thinking rather than individual vision, people in museums across different countries think similarly because they prioritise career and success over the true purpose of art. Creating great work requires collaborating with people who will challenge you; Halina values working with editors and composers who bring different strengths and aren't afraid to push back when something isn't working. Funding is a major challenge for independent filmmakers, but Halina emphasises the importance of starting projects through self-funded research and following your enthusiasm before securing complete financing. After winning film prizes, Halina realised the happiness didn’t last and that what matters most is the inner journey and connecting with even one person who understands your work. Halina is drawn to extraordinary, overlooked biographies like Maria Sibylla Merian, a 17th-century female scientist and artist who travelled to South America to study insects when people were still burning witches in Europe. True creativity often emerges from spiritual exploration; both Hilma af Klint and James Howell (subjects of Halina's documentaries) were interested in spiritual questions. BEST MOMENTS "Reality is highly overrated. Especially as an artist.” "It would have been a completely different film if we had gotten funding immediately. It took me quite a long time, five years for the research and doing it. But those were important years because even in the last half year, things were discovered." "When my film was finished, I was refused from festivals for weeks, over months. Then I had an interesting moment; I felt that if I could just reach one person with it, that would be a huge success." "If you put yourself alongside people who you are happy to be challenged by, I think that's a really great and exciting creative environment, where someone can playfully tease you into another way of thinking." "The ego is the biggest problem for all of us. It's something we really have to get rid of, hopefully in this life." "If it happens, it happens. If it should be, it will be. And if not, it does not. You have to trust life a bit, always trust life." "The most important thing is that you trust yourself because then other people can trust you as well." Sedan förra helgen sitter frilansjournalisten Joakim Medin i Silivrifängelset utanför Istanbul i Turkiet.
The boys talk about the life of Hilma af Klint, the mother of Abstract Impressionism, and go wildly off topic while doing so. They also touch on how you should use your grief to sell art.

In this episode, I connected with the dynamic duo of Hilma's Ghost, Sharmistha Ray and Dannielle Tegeder, to explore the fascinating intersection of art, spirituality, and community. We dive deep into their collaborative journey, tracing the origins of their partnership that blossomed amidst the challenges of the pandemic and the need for connection. Together we explore the transformative power of art and how spirituality plays a crucial role in their practice.------------------For over five years, the Hilma's Ghost has conducted experimental pedagogy, transcultural dialogue, and collectivity through the lens of feminism and spirituality to build community and reckon with patriarchal art histories that have excluded women, trans, and nonbinary practitioners. Hilma's Ghost collaborated artistically on ABSTRACT FUTURES TAROT, consisting of 5 paintings, 78 drawings, and an original limited-edition tarot deck that was exhibited at The Armory Show 2021. The exhibition was shortlisted as one of the exhibitions to see by Will Heinrich at The New York Times. In January 2022, the duo curated Cosmic Geometries, a group exhibition of 25 artists at EFA Project Space, whichJillian Steinhauer of The New York Times called “a knockout exhibition.” CHROMAGICK, a series of new collaborative drawings using color magic and crystals was recently exhibited at Expo Chicago 2022.

Under två dagar i november avgjordes Årets konditor 2024 inför publik i Stockholm.

A routine that never changes can get old. So this week on Selected Shorts, host Meg Wolitzer presents three stories that shake up domestic life, teaching the characters something new about themselves and their circumstances. In “Scaffolding Man” by Jenny Allen, performed by Patricia Kalember, a woman in a drab marriage is intrigued by a “hot” stranger. In "Myrna's Dad" by Cyn Vargas, a father's changing occupations hide a family secret. The reader is Krystina Alabado. And in “Overtime” by Hilma Wolitzer (Meg's mom), read by Becky Ann Baker, a happy couple gets a jolt when the man's ex moves into their apartment. After the story, Meg interviews Hilma about what gave her the idea and her writing in general.
In this episode, I have a profound conversation with visual artist Kelly Joy Ladd, diving deep into her transformative journey of healing and creativity. We explore her traumatic head injury and how it catalyzed a significant shift in her life and art practice, leading her to embrace her spirituality and authenticity fully. ------------------- Ladd‘s work responds to themes of cosmic and creative mysteries, exploring inner and outer space, spiritually, the connection of all things and understanding the universe and our roles and purpose in it. Ladd's Liberal Studies degree from the University of Central Florida allowed her to opportunity to explore the subjects that peaked her curiosity like astronomy, physics and creative writing. During this time, she also discovered eastern philosophies and meditation, which has been a staple and major influence in her life and art practice. Before becoming a full-time artist in 2019, she worked as a Disney World parade performer, music writer for HardRock.com, an editor and prop stylist for Parenting magazine and a freelance craft designer and blogger. All the while, she was developing her own style and unique techniques using paper as her main medium, due to her husband's adverse health reactions to chemicals and paint. In March 2020, Ladd experienced a significant head injury, which greatly affected her vision. Since then, she has been retraining her brain and eyes to refocus and track again. During her recovery when she wasn't able to read, watch TV, or look at phones and computers, Ladd used this time, without outside distractions or influences, to devote her full attention to her art and meditation practices. Her 3-D paper and mixed media work has been exhibited in the Mennello Museum of American Art and the Cummer Museum Art and Gardens. Ladd's intuitive artistic approach aligns her with her influences transcendental artists Hilma af Klint, Agnes Pelton and Emma Kunz. This is the second instalment of a three-part episode. How many women artists do you know? Despite the work of activist groups and scholars alike, women are still troublingly absent from the history of art. Historian and broadcaster Katy Hessel wants to change that. In September 2024 she came to the Intelligence Squared stage in conversation with the journalist, author and podcaster Pandora Sykes to write women back into art history. Discussing her bestselling book The Story of Art Without Men, she paid homage to the greats such as Artemisia Gentileschi, Frida Kahlo, Hilma af Klint, Tracey Emin and Kara Walker while also shining a light on lesser known figures such as Lavinia Fontana, thought to be one of the first women in Western art to paint female nudes in 1595. This is the second instalment of a three-part episode. Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) was barely known during her lifetime but an exhibition of her work at the Guggenheim Museum in 2018 shattered attendance records. it was called Paintings for the Future, and the giant abstract work astounded visitors who had not heard of her before. Joining journalist Zing Tsjeng in studio to discuss her life is Jennifer Higgie who wrote in her book, The Other Side: A Journey into Women, Art and The Spirit World, "For Hilma af Klint, the very air throbbed with unseen energies. The question was - how to interpret them? How to give them shape?" The artist often used seances for inspiration. If curious about where creativity begins, this is a story you may want bto hear. Brooke Torres is an ultra runner who couldn't understand why running shoes were so uncomfortable. So, she started a running shoe company to fix that problem. Hilma Running Shoes makes shoes specifically for the needs of women's feet, which are uniquely shaped and not just a smaller version of men's feet (since as you'll hear, that doesn't work). In this episode, Brooke and I talk about: Women's foot shape and its impact on running shoe design How poor-fit shoes can lead to injury and discomfort due to differences in foot geometry Heels, high arches, and bunions: common foot problems in women How women often choose to size up in order to find more width Hilma's three different fits, with a 90% try-on success rate The cost and time required for custom shoe creation (it's a lot) Personalized shoe fitting for women, using data and quizzes to determine the best fit Running shoes for various purposes and from urban walking to moderately technical trails Helping women feel welcome in the outdoor industry I'm normally reluctant to have running company CEO's on the podcast, since the episode could feel like a massive advertisement. But I confidently made an exception with this episode. Hilma Running Shoes is a small company that is solving a very real need among women runners. If you don't know about Hilma yet, you should. In this month's series, we'll look at people who were manipulated into committing murder. First up, we'll take a look at a case where a mother pressures her child to kill his father. That fact alone would make this story truly horrible but it was not the last murder Marie Witte orchestrated. The next one would be as cold-hearted as it was gruesome.
