Send us a textLast week as I researched Archangel Raguel, the angel of justice, I came across another angel I'd never heard of and got curious. He's best known as Azrael's coworker, as they are bookends of the dying and transition to the Beyond process. But, my he's not solely (okay no pun intended there) in charge of that aspect of the human experience. He's much more. And like the other angels, he came forward with a second half of an episode that isn't what I would've chosen. I thought he'd maybe want me to dive into psychopomps or death doulas or hospice care, but no. Archangel Jeremiel (Jera-meal) has another focus.Let's get into it!Archangel Jeremiel 101Are you familiar with Archangel Jeremiel? He's also known in Jewish tradition as Ramiel, and his name has a few meanings, either "God uplifts," or "the Thunder of God." Wow. Both speak to his strength and his positive vibes, right? K Pearson Bradley on Medium offers a perfect introduction to Archangel Jeremiel, writing, "One of the less talked-about archangels is Jeremiel, whose name means “God uplifts” in Hebrew. He is mentioned in various iterations of the Bible, and he has been described as a loving and sweet energy, even funny. I read a post by Jodie Helm, one of my favorite Medium writers, who wrote that she feels his loving presence and calls him “Jerry.”Episode Resources and Read/Watch/Listen NEXT ListWho is Archangel Jeremiel? In this mystical guest episode, Emily interviews Gayle Revels who is a psychopomp and energy healer that specializes in helping people remove energies that are attached to them so they can regain their sovereignty. She loves helping spirits move from being stuck with or causing problems for us back to where they truly belong. Spirits are often bound by curses or vows or contracts and undoing them is an important part of her work. Those bindings can be on purpose and meant to cause harm, but they could also have been intended to be helpful or guiding and set up by our ancestors. Meeting the spirits involved and figuring out what is needed to give everyone their sovereignty back is what makes the work unique and fun. Gayle and Emily dive into an in-depth conversation about spirit and entity attachment- what it is, the signs, the different kinds of spirits, and how to know if something isn't right in your energy field. We also talk in depth about ancestral energy and what it looks like when your ancestors may still be attached to you in this lifetime, how to navigate this, and energetic hygiene. We chat about curses, what they are, how they are created, and how to go about clearing and removing them from your energy field. Gayle shares lots of tips and tricks with us for working with your guides, using good discernment with the spirit world, asking the right questions, and keeping your home in a high vibrational energy. Entering Hekate's Cave: The Journey Through Darkness To Wholeness by Cyndi Brannen, PhD, can be purchased wherever books are sold. This is a guided class and meditation that introduces the listener to Soul Retrieval. Join my soul school, The Covina Institute, for the in-depth eight week journey that takes place between the first and third new moons of the calendar year. If you missed this course, consider joining for The Rebirth Journey that runs from the third to fifth new moons. Learn more at keepingherkeys.com Psychopomp, which translates from Greek as “Soul Guide,” is one of Hekate's most ancient roles. Certainly, she guided Persephone through rebirth out of the cave, yet we can envision Hekate helping her call back the missing soul shards that shattered during her great trauma at the hands of those powerful men who brought about the end of her innocence. As Persephone learned to sing her soul once more, so do we. Our chorus becomes a beacon to the missing pieces of the soul in this lesson as we experience Soul Retrieval. The Soul Guide is much more than the one who helps the earthly dead cross over the river to the other side, she is the midwife who assists new souls as they are born into flesh, and she reunites us with the fragments we lose along the way. Hekate calls us to take care of our own souls, and to see the soul in all things. Caring for our own souls and seeking to understand the soul in all things, draws us closer to Anima Mundi. It is to Hekate as Psychopomp, and to our own ability as the guide of our own souls, that we turn to in this lesson as we experience soul retrieval. A shamanic practice as well as a psychological one, soul retrieval is the process of calling back pieces of our soul that were lost due to trauma. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/keepingherkeys/message

Perhaps to me the most enduring way that Hekate presents to me is as Psychopomp, The Soul Guide. So much so that this entire moon month is dedicated to exploring the mysteries of Psychopomp, from connecting with a past life to experiencing the transformative Animarum Recupero (Soul Retrieval Ritual). Hail Hekate, Psychopomp.Guide us, light our journey. Check out my windy day musings video and more HERE: https://keepingherkeys.com/read/f/exploring-hekate-and-soul-retrieval For an in-depth examination of Hekate Psychopomp, read the eponymous chapter in Entering Hekate's Cave. Here's an excerpt: One of Hekate's most ancient roles is as Psychopomp, which translates as “soul guide.”[i]  According to the Greeks, the psychopomp guided the departed into the afterlife, whether it was the nightmarish Tartarus or the heavenly Elysium.[ii] Certain deities like Hekate and Hermes, her frequent companion, had the special ability to travel at will between the Underworld, the world of everyday life, and the heights of Olympus, so they could easily cross into the territory of the afterlife.[iii]  Hekate, in particular, was responsible for overseeing the restless dead and for guiding souls to the other side. There is a special relationship between Hekate and those who have suffered great soul loss at the hands of others. She held close to her the dead who were marginalized by society, especially women and girls who had died due to sexual violence or during childbirth. In modern terms, Hekate is a trauma specialist whose darkness welcomes our fleeting soul fragments that find refuge in her cave. She tends to them until we are ready to be reunited. Hekate Psychopomp is much more than the one who helps the earthly dead cross over the river to the other side, however. She is the midwife who assists new souls as they are born into flesh, and she reunites us with the fragments of our selves that we lose along the way. She calls us to take care of our own souls, and to see the soul in all things. When we care for our own souls and seek to understand the soul in all things, it draws us closer to the archetypal web, to the very soul of the world. The shamanic and psychological practice of soul retrieval is the process of calling back pieces of our soul that were lost due to individual and cultural trauma.[iv] In my own work, I function as a psychopomp, lighting the way to the wholeness known only through the return to soul.  You can watch my recorded class on Hekate and The Soul, with CC and transcript, HERE. LEARN MORE ABOUT COVINA [i] Dark Nights of the Soul: A Guide to Finding Your Way Through Life's Ordeals by Thomas Moore contains an excellent discussion on Hekate and the soul. What if you could reach across the threshold of the physical world and connect with the spirit realm? That's the intriguing journey we embark on in our latest conversation with Claudia Kubata, the Death Faerie herself, where we explore the fascinating realms of spirituality, mediumship, and communication with spirits. We tackle the uncomfortable, yet essential aspects of our roles as death doulas and shed light on the hope, love, and excitement we find in this unique interaction with the deceased. In the episode, Claudia takes us through her personal journey of embracing mediumship, the encounters she's had with spirits, and the process of validating the authenticity of these experiences. Delving into the often misunderstood concept of modern-day witchcraft, we debunk the stigma associated with it and stress the importance of authenticity in this realm. Furthermore, we traverse the intriguing subject of spirits attaching themselves to humans and discuss ways to set protective boundaries. Our chat doesn't stop there. We share insights on how to open oneself up to spirit communication, discussing various psychic senses and how they manifest in interactions with spirits, encouraging listeners to explore spirit communication in their own unique ways. Claudia also gives us a sneak peek into her upcoming workbook, loaded with spirit play activities, to tap into psychic abilities with a sense of wonder and fun. Join us on this spiritually uplifting journey and discover how you can connect with the other side.About Claudia:Meet Claudia, known as The Death Faerie, your guide to the Other Side. For two friends, watching the new season of their favorite show may have to wait while one of them contends with a potentially life-changing event. Genre: Fantasy   Excerpt: “Sometimes I think it's kind of nice that vampires are accepted in this fictional society,” Glo said. My attention perked up. That was different. But the response from the rest of our friends was not. “That would be like chickens living among us and being okay that we eat them.” “That show is dumb. I am a 100% science-based skeptic who experienced something I can't explain at my office in late May of this year. I need to know if there is anyone out there that has experienced an encounter like mine. Due to the pandemic my office building that normally accommodates 1000+ employees has largely been empty save for reduced security teams, maintenance personnel, cleaning staff and a handful of mission critical employees of which I am one.On May 28th at 1:10 pm I was sitting at my desk, the lone employee at the far end of one of many large, empty 'cubicle city' suites. Despite the emptiness, the fluorescent lighting and outer wall windows provide a comforting brightness. The creepiness factor is supplied by the multitude of small whiteboards hanging outside cubicle entrances all marked with the same date: March 16, 2020, the day of evacuation. On this particular day I was reading emails when I heard very distinct heavy footsteps in an almost jogging gait approach my cubicle entrance and stopped abruptly. I looked up expecting to see a maintenance person. Instead there was no one there.Subscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesFollow us on YOUTUBEJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEStory OneStory TwoThanks so much for listening and we'll catch up with you again next week for some more true, scary stories.Sarah and Tobie xx"Spacial Winds" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Hello everyone, this will be the last episode we release on a Sunday until we return week commencing 14th August 2023!There Charon stands, who rules the dreary coast –A sordid god: down from his hairy chinA length of beard descends, uncombed, unclean; His eyes, like hollow furnaces on fire;A girdle, foul with grease, binds his obscene attireVirgil, Aeneid 6.298–301, as translated by John Dryden. In Greek mythology, Charon, also known as the Ferryman of Hades, holds a prominent place as the guardian and transporter of the souls of the deceased across the river Styx. This legendary figure plays a crucial role in the afterlife beliefs of the ancient Greeks, offering a fascinating glimpse into their mythology and understanding of death.According to myth, the river Styx formed the boundary between the mortal realm and the underworld, where the souls of the dead resided. To reach the realm of Hades, the god of the underworld, one had to cross the river Styx. This is where Charon came into play. He was tasked with ferrying the souls of the deceased across the river, allowing them to enter the realm of the dead.Join Sarah's new FACEBOOK GROUPSubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesFollow us on YOUTUBEJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch Link OneResearch Link TwoStory OneThanks so much for listening and we'll catch up with you again in a couple of weeks for some more true, scary stories.Sarah and Tobie xx"Spacial Winds" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. In this episode, Coyote Mae and I interview pagan author Laura Perry about deathwalking, underworld goddesses, and guiding souls (aka psychopompery). We begin with a simple ritual, including The Prayer to Hekate for The Dead. We discuss deathwalking, which is a spiritual practice in which an experienced individual guides those of the departed to the afterlife, and often overlaps communicating with those on the other side. We dig into our personal experiences, and cultural attitudes towards death, linking these to the history of Hekate, especially her roles as Psychopomp, Anassa Eneroi and Eilytheia, along with the myths associated with related underworld goddesses (including Ariadne). Lastly, we talk about the implications of working with the departed, and ways to connect to your dearly departed, while staying safe from unfriendly spirits. Learn more about Laura Perry HERE. Hekate and Healing Our Mother Wound: From Pain To Empathy

This episode explores the powerful archetypal Great Mother Goddess, a figure that spans many cultures, times, and traditions. Focusing on Hekate as one face of this primordial goddess, and others, including Kybele, Demeter, and Kali Ma, discussing how SHE can be a powerful ally for healing our personal mother wound. The mother wound is something that we all carry in different ways, from the consequences of early childhood trauma, to the collective denial of the sacred feminine. Associated with insecure attachment, the consequences of bearing this injury are significant, often infiltrating all aspects of our lives. This painful burden shows up as mistrust, self-denial, lack of purpose, and in many other distressing ways. We live in a time when the goddess is returning, from reclaiming The Madonna to connecting with Hekate, is occurring within many, and in mainstream western culture. This comes after centuries of being diminished due to the ubiquity of rational thought (part of patriarchy). Restoring The Great Mother, whether you call her Hekate or otherwise, includes recognizing diversity and that we are all in need of healing. Finally, heeding the voice of the Great Mother is an invitation to not only personal healing, but to help restore balance to the world. This episode goes well with Chapter 12, Psychopomp, in Entering Hekate's Cave. Mentioned: The Greek Magical Papyri, The Chaldean Oracles, The Goddess and The Alphabet. Keywords: Great Mother Goddess, Hekate, Kybele, Demeter, Moon, Bull, Torch, Dagger, Anima, Animus, Fertility, Dark Goddess, Healing, Mother Wound, Mother Complex, Symbols, Archetype. Recovering Missing Pieces: Soul Retrieval Explained + Guided Meditation

This is talk and meditation that introduces the listener to Soul Retrieval, as described in Entering Hekate's Cave: The Journey Through Darkness To Wholeness from Red Wheel Weiser. Psychopomp, which translates from Greek as “Soul Guide,” is one of Hekate's most ancient roles. Listen with transcript and CC HERE. Gather round the kitchen table with me and Christen for our conversation blending soul retrieval, kitchen witchery, and the ancient practice of Hekate's Supper. This chat is rooted in the Psychopomp chapter in Entering Hekate's Cave. We were both in the thick of wintry weather, so the warmth of the hearth was especially compelling, and our conversation reflects this. We discuss how we are culinary psychopomps, chatting about the the sacredness of food and how it can be a source of nourishment and connection to our ancestors. From family recipes, and the importance of connecting to the departed in food preparation, to the ancient practice of leaving meals at a crossroads on the dark moon as an act of propitiation to Hekate, Christen and I go deep into the ways we can retrieve our souls right in Hekate's Kitchen. Ancient Hekate's Suppers, known as Deipnon, is a centerpiece of our chat; we dive into the context of these offerings, including the meaning of the ingredients, the significance of red mullet, and why garbage was an important part of the ritual. Hekate's Kitchen is a place where we can become culinary psychopomps, connecting deeply to the food we make, practice kitchen witchery, honor ourselves and beloveds, and cultivate a soulful hearth. In the practice of shamanism it is understood that when we die we transcend back home to Source. But there are often situations where this transition needs some assistance. We humans live in what shamans call the Middle World which is Earth School and a place  of learning.  When we die the Middle world is no longer our home.It is understood and seen through journey work that some souls who suffered a traumatic death might get stuck in the Middle World and need assistance in crossing over. When there are so many stuck souls here in the Middle World they can impact the quality of life for the living. With all the death through Covid, war, starvation, climatic changes, and the list goes on are there are  souls who are waiting for our help to transcend back to their spiritual home. This is where the shamanic practice of shamanism comes in to perform psychopomp work to lead souls back to their home again so they can find peace and we can find peace.Join Renee Baribeau and Sandra Ingerman to learn more about the power of psychopomp work.  Follow us at Shamanstv.com
