Today, I want to talk about why your business conversations are stalling and how you can maintain a forward-looking trajectory using two critical tools: advancements and scheduling.Too many of you are ending meetings with "we'll keep in touch" or "no wahala." That is not how business moves forward. An advancement is a mutual agreement between you and your potential client or investor on exactly what is going to happen next.If you don't secure an advancement every single time you talk, the chances of being ghosted or forgotten go through the roof.But securing the agreement is only half the battle you must schedule it. If you are handling more than two or three deals a month, scheduling with your brain will not work. You need an objective reminder outside of yourself, whether that is a CRM, Google Calendar, or even a physical diary.I'll admit, even I make mistakes. I recently realized I was supposed to have been in touch with someone eight weeks ago but I missed it. I had to "fall on the sword," take responsibility, and try to get that deal back on track.The reason some of you are broke today is because of the calls you didn't make and the proposals you didn't schedule weeks or months ago. If you take your foot off the gas, the other person will slack too. You must maintain the initiative. Log your calls, write down what was agreed upon, and set reminders with clear agendas so you never look unprepared.

Every Bitcoin transaction needs to be verified on the blockchain. There is no central authority that does this, but Bitcoin's blockchain has run uninterrupted since 2009 and now carries a market capitalisation of $1.3 trillion, roughly 4% of US GDP. Its original promise was more radical: that we do not need a trusted intermediary to spend money, write contracts, or create finance. In the fifth LTI report, published today, Yackolley Amoussou-Guenou, Bruno Biais, and Sara Tucci-Piergiovanni ask how much of that promise has held. Bruno talks to Tim Phillips about blockchain's potential, its flaws, and its future.  It is a Nash equilibrium: if you believe others will follow the rules, it is in your interest to follow them too. On that foundation Bitcoin's ledger has been running continuously for 16 years. Smart contracts, pioneered by Vitalik Buterin's Ethereum, extend the logic to financial agreements. Decentralised finance promised to cut out rent-seeking intermediaries. Vitalik Buterin introduced them through the Ethereum platform, which offers a richer programming language than Bitcoin and allows users to hold collateral on-chain to guarantee the contract will pay out. Smart contracts underpin automated market makers, decentralised lending, and a wide range of financial applications that require no counterparty or intermediary to enforce the agreement.Oracles are third-party services that transmit data about real-world events to a blockchain, allowing smart contracts to respond to things that happen off-chain. A contract that pays out when a house burns, for example, requires an oracle to report that event to the network. Oracles introduce a point of fragility: the authenticity and accuracy of off-chain information must be established before the network accepts it, and that verification is more vulnerable to error and manipulation than the on-chain consensus mechanism itself.Front-running and miner extractable value (MEV) describe the practice by which technically sophisticated actors exploit the public visibility of pending transactions to extract profits at the expense of ordinary users. Because transactions on public blockchains are broadcast to all nodes before they are confirmed, an actor who sees a large pending purchase can execute the same trade first, drive the price up, and then sell at a profit once the original transaction goes through. The cost falls on the smaller trader. Biais notes that the barriers to entry and economies of scale in this activity have concentrated power in the hands of a small, technically skilled group, recreating the kind of intermediary rents that decentralised finance was designed to eliminate.Automated market makers are smart contracts that provide continuous liquidity for trading between two assets by holding reserves of both in a pool and setting prices according to the ratio of the reserves. A large purchase of one asset depletes that side of the pool and raises its price; a large sale depresses it. Automated market makers have become a central mechanism of decentralised finance, replacing the order-book systems used in traditional exchanges.Stablecoins are cryptocurrency tokens designed to maintain a fixed value relative to a conventional currency, typically the US dollar. They are issued by private entities that hold reserves intended to back the peg. Tether, the largest stablecoin by market capitalisation, holds its reserves in a mix of Treasury bills, Bitcoin, and precious metals; in 2021, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission fined Tether for misrepresenting those reserves and required it to disclose their composition, making this information publicly available for the first time. Dai is an algorithmically managed stablecoin that maintains its peg through over-collateralisation in cryptocurrency rather than conventional reserves.The Diamond-Dybvig model is a theoretical framework developed by Douglas Diamond and Philip Dybvig explaining why financial intermediaries that hold illiquid assets while issuing liquid claims are inherently vulnerable to runs. When enough depositors demand withdrawal simultaneously, the institution is forced to sell assets at a loss, making further withdrawals impossible and confirming the fears that triggered the run. Biais applies this logic to stablecoins: if enough holders attempt to redeem simultaneously, the issuer must sell its reserves in volume, driving down their price and potentially breaking the peg.Central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) are digital tokens issued and managed by central banks, distinct from both commercial bank deposits and private stablecoins. Biais distinguishes two potential use cases: retail CBDCs, which would allow individuals to hold central bank money directly, and wholesale CBDCs, which would facilitate settlement between large financial institutions. He regards the wholesale application as the more promising; a wholesale CBDC could enable fast, low-cost atomic settlement of cross-currency transactions between banks under central bank oversight, a significant improvement on current interbank settlement systems.MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation) is the European Union's regulatory framework for crypto-asset service providers, which came fully into force in December 2024. It requires licensing for issuers and service providers operating within the EU and imposes disclosure, reserve, and conduct requirements intended to align the sector more closely with the standards applied in traditional financial markets.Hayek's currency competition refers to the argument by Friedrich Hayek that competition between privately issued currencies would discipline monetary policy: users would switch away from currencies managed irresponsibly, and that threat would encourage better central bank behaviour. Biais applies this argument to cryptocurrencies and stablecoins in countries where the domestic currency has been mismanaged. He cites Nigeria, where sharp depreciation of the naira was accompanied by rising crypto adoption; over the following period, Nigeria's central bank raised interest rates and created a more transparent foreign exchange market. The rest of the group—Jonathan, Maebela, Elena Millefiori, Veile Lynndel, Brontë Adelvys, and his bodyguards Efta and Zolfta—are drawn by the sound of the winds towards something altogether more noble…   This week on Perpetua: The Castle Eschatonica 03   Perpetua Guide [Community Addendum Part 01]   Hey everyone! My name is Anne and I'm going to be filling in for FriendofNei for a little bit! I'm not really good at all that formatting stuff, so I'll try to make it up with extra information! Today's update is about the first few rooms you'll find in Eschatonica, but I'll try to add a little extra info about what this dungeon is referencing for people who are curious! (But beware of spoilers, both for Perpetua and the other franchises being referenced. I'll note them in parentheses next to the room name!) I've kept in the sort of chapter headings that Nei normally uses so that hopefully they can just slot it back in, if they want to, once they're back! (Oh, since I have no idea which room you might find first, I'm organizing this alphabetically.) Ready? Okay! Dungeon Maps [DNMP] Castle Eschatonica Map (IN PROGRESS) [CEDM] Balcony (Imago) I almost didn't even include this as a 'room' but it has a load screen, and a BEAUTIFUL view of one of the Castle's major towers (more on that next update!)  At first, you might think this is from Alteros because of the Tower view, the sky, and the invite to the High Masque. However, if you remember being in Violet Caliban's studio in Imago 2: Ancestral Fault, there was a south-facing window you could interact with. When you did, Violet said 'There's always a bunch of rich yuppies on that balcony. Bet they don't even enjoy the view.' (I love her she's SO MEAN). Even though you can't see the view from there, this is definitely that balcony! (You'll see why later.) Oh, and make sure to pick up the invite on the table! It's the easiest way to progress past the doorman.  Creature Cages (Genesika) This looks just like the room where Mossy Mozz gets placed after he gets turned into a regular mouse (instead of the cute mouseboy he normally is)! For people who haven't played it, you have to do this whole laboratory dungeon at mouse-scale, and at the end, you have to fight the cat who's been embedded with a Poison Spell Orb coalesced around the dead scientist's spirit. Anyway, be careful here, because you can get bitten pretty bad by a Bio-Rat if you're not careful!  Entryway I guess this counts as a room, but I really don't want to write up the whole solution to the puzzle, so um, can someone else handle this one? It doesn't really seem to be a reference to anything either, I think just totally original for Perpetua, so there's not much for me to add n.n;;;;;) Megamagnet Trap (Genesika) If you're not careful, you can lose items AND asta here, as a giant magnet will lift you to the ceiling and empty your pockets! While you can also get a little bit of money (or even a spell orb!) I think it's probably better to avoid this place all together!  (These are ripped right from the Scrapyard Dungeon in Genesika: Basilisk's Lament.) Necrosmith's Workshop (Ichoria) You can find a GREAT weapon here—the Blooded Blade, which was originally a bonus weapon you could unlock in Ichoria 2's Slice Mode.  Otherwise, beware of the Bloodstarved. I didn't fight them my first three times through this dungeon, but on the fourth time they really took me out! Though the special Celestial Laws for Ichoria really prioritize getting good physical hits in, don't forget about spells! Light spells are especially effective here because they're undead! (Which is probably why Light Spells are such a rarity in Ichoria itself!) Oracle Infirmary (Armidurge) Oh. My. God. When I entered this room I almost started to cry. Maybe you haven't played Armidirge III: The Unrecorded Records (which makes sense, because it was never localized), BUT let me tell you the short version. In AIII:TUR, you play as a trio of Saints, resurrected by the Creed of Oracles and pulled back from heaven so that you can fight the Windborne Church at the northern front, which has been all but abandoned.  As Revived Saints, you're really strong—you even get a couple of Reliquaries to pilot alongside your lay chapel (or are just regular people down on their luck who get sent to the front to be your grunt soldiers). You're told early on that if you die before the battle is over, you will lose your sainthood and that means your soul just goes to the Grace (which is like Limbo in Armidirge lore).  About halfway through the game, one of your three Saints (Soneya) jumps in the way of a full bore blast from the Windborne Church's Scirocco Cannon in order to save whatever Chapel member she has the highest affinity with. (Affinity is a stat characters get by fighting 'shoulder-to-shoulder' together). And if that character is one of Soneya's potential love interests (Jelissa, Vanderian, or Sunny (for me it was Jelissa)), you get a bonus scene IN THE MIDDLE OF COMBAT, which is like a flash forward to after the war, of that character coming to THIS INFIRMARY and kneeling at one of the beds and CRYING.  The whole rest of the game you have to carry on KNOWING that even if you win, Soneya's true love is SUFFERING the whole time, and that "winning" looks like more grief for them. Our esteemed panel, Dr. Judd Burton (BurtonBeyond.net), author of Interview With the Giant; Doug Van Dorn (DouglasVanDorn.com), author of Giants: Sons of the Gods; and Brian Godawa (Godawa.com), best-selling author of the theological thriller Cruel Logic, and two new novels based on the period of the Maccabees in Judea, discuss the historical context, significance, and the interplay between pagan and Christian thought found in the Sibylline Oracles.  We discuss the role of the Sibyls as ancient prophetesses, the legend of Nero Redivivus, and the implications of women as prophets in these texts. We also examine the cultural dynamics of the early church and how the Sibylline Oracles reflect messianic expectations and the incarnation of Christ.  Overall, the discussion highlights the complexity and richness of these ancient writings and their relevance to understanding early Christian theology.
