The author of a new catalogue raisonné of the work of Albrecht Dürer argues that a painting of the artist's father in the National Gallery in London, long thought to be a copy after Dürer's original, is in fact an autograph work. Eighty percent of Americans live in urban areas, and for them, 2026 is likely to be a year of immense change as the federal government quickens the pace of trillions of dollars in funding cuts to cities, counties, and states expected over the next decade. Moderated by William Glasgall, Volcker Alliance Public Finance Adviser and Penn IUR Fellow, and Susan Wachter, Co-Director of the Penn Institute for Urban Research and Wharton Professor of Real Estate and Professor of Finance, our expert panel from government and Wall Street will dissect how urban America and its leaders will cope with this new brand of fiscal federalism. Speakers include: • Janet Cowell, Mayor of Raleigh, North Carolina • Fitzroy Lee, Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Chief Economist, Office of the Chief Financial Officer, District of Columbia • Sarah Parker, Senior Research and Strategy Officer for Infrastructure, Environmental and Economic Analysis, New York City's Independent Budget Office (IBO) • Nicholas Samuels, Senior Vice President, US Public Finance at Moody's Ratings and • Matthew Stitt, Managing Director, PFM Group Consulting LLC. NOTABLE QUOTES Cowell: “We feel optimistic that we're a growing community with a number of levers and ways we can accommodate that growth, good finances, but the risk does become that federal relationship and how they look at cities and fund cities. Parker: “The relationship of a city and a state is becoming even more crucial, and even that dynamic has shifted as the relationship between the federal government and states and cities has really become much more tenuous. […] Our partnerships with Albany, both Governor Hochul and the state legislature, are more important than ever.” Lee: “As the nation's capital, of course, we host a disproportionate amount of federal jobs. And so the federal workforce downsizing presents the biggest challenge to the district's economy for the year ahead.” Lee: “[The city] budget anticipated the fiscal impact of the federal workforce reduction and incorporated a revenue reduction of about $300 million per year. That's about 3% of the district's $11 billion local source revenue.” Stitt: “In regard to the funding challenges, many cities and/or counties are preparing for how to maintain service delivery despite federal cuts. This is partially being reflected in budgeting five-year plans/forecast by some cities placing more money into their reserves.” Samuels: In 3 of the 10 largest U.S. Cities, the combination of rent and childcare, transportation, and taxes consume more than 60% of household income. So, those kinds of rising living costs […] dampen consumer spending, they reduce tax revenues, they can influence migration patterns and workforce availability.” Parker: “The longer term [issue] is how a government itself addresses its own adaptation needs relative to its physical climate risk.” Cowell: “In North Carolina and in many states in the South, the State General Assembly has a lot of authority and power, and they have taken away a number of revenue sources for local government […] They are setting the rules, and it definitely impacts how we do our job as mayors.”

Enthusiastic and Trusting: Two Invitations for a Stronger Year Ahead

Today we’re wrapping up our One Word 2026 series with the final two invitations: enthusiastic and trusting. I wanted this whole month to feel unhurried—like space to look back on 2025 with gratitude, and then ask God, “How do You want to grow me in 2026?” And here’s what I’ve realized: enthusiasm isn’t something we manufacture by willpower. Real, lasting enthusiasm comes from being filled with God—and I love that the word itself traces back to that idea. If you’ve felt tired, distracted, discouraged, or even a little apathetic, I’m inviting you to consider what it would look like to be ardently alive, fueled by the Spirit. Then we talk about trust—because so many of us are carrying unknowns, losses, or things we can’t control. Trust is choosing to rely on God’s character when the outcome isn’t clear. We’ll look at Zacchaeus (Luke 19), the centurion (Matthew 8), and we’ll end with a reminder that God’s holiness means He is truly worthy of our trust. What We Cover: Discover what “enthusiastic” originally meant—not just high energy, but being “in God” and Spirit-filled. Identify the real enemy of enthusiasm: indifference and apathy that grows when we’re overwhelmed and disconnected from God’s strength. Learn how spiritual enthusiasm shows up in real life through Zacchaeus: curiosity, bold response, generosity, and immediate heart-change in Jesus’ presence. Understand trust as steady reliance on God’s character, not on what you can control, predict, or prove. Be invited to name your modern “chariots and horses”—the things you’re tempted to rely on for security (money, approval, control, success, relationships, etc.). See what extraordinary faith looks like in the centurion: trusting Jesus’ authority without needing visible proof. Walk away with two simple affirmations to practice daily if either word becomes your focus for 2026. But like driving in fog, adding speed without visibility creates problems. Creating space for clear thinking moves you forward.Reflection reveals your resilience - Looking back isn't about dwelling on the past. It's understanding the map you've created through your experiences, recognising your growth, and making informed decisions about sustainable paths forward. There's no "right time" for career reflection - Clarity doesn't follow a calendar. Whether facing redundancy, organisational change, mid-year scattered energy, or dissatisfaction, reflection responds to your attention whenever you give it.Reflection is an act of self-respect - Taking time to review your energy, decisions, work, and values isn't wasted time. As we slowly come out of our winter slumber (or perhaps stupor?) it's time to take stock of the year ahead of us.  It still feels like everything is orbiting around the massive and erratic gravitational force that is GTA 6, but there are hints and whispers about what else may be in store for us.  Stylish bullet hell, horror, and maybe even a wacky walking sim have all caught our eye, as has the ever-present potential pleasant surprise.

What happens when your best customer is no longer a person, but an AI agent acting on their behalf? Agility requires not just adapting to new technologies, but fundamentally rethinking the customer journey when those technologies change the very definition of a customer. It demands a proactive stance on what's next, rather than a reactive one. Today, we're going to talk about the seismic shifts happening in e-commerce, fresh off the floor of NRF 2026, and what it all means for the year ahead. Couple's Playbook: Getting on the Same Page for the Year Ahead It's easy to start a new year with good intentions — and just as easy to lose them once life speeds back up. In this episode, Chris and Melissa talk about why so many couples want to be intentional but struggle to actually do it together. The issue isn't desire. It's structure. Most couples don't need more motivation — they need a simple playbook that creates the right conversations. They kick things off with a lighthearted look at Chris fully embracing his cowboy era (yes, cowboy hats and horses included), which naturally leads into a bigger theme of the episode: when you don't slow down to get aligned, life starts making decisions for you. Melissa shares how their family has built meaningful year-end and new-year rhythms — from vision boards to reflection questions — and why those traditions work so well, even with kids. Chris explains how reflection and planning became a cornerstone not just in their family, but in their business as well, helping them shape focus, priorities, and direction for the year ahead. The heart of the conversation centers on the Couple's Planning Playbook Melissa created — a simple, guided experience designed to help couples reflect individually, then come together on the things that matter most. They share what it looked like to take the playbook on a date night, fill it out separately, and then talk through it over dinner — including the moment their waitress asked where she could buy it. They also dig into why individual clarity is just as important as shared goals. From health and fitness to parenting and schedules, many goals quietly require two people to succeed — whether we acknowledge that or not. Without alignment, support turns into frustration and good intentions turn into resentment. One of the most meaningful parts of their experience came from walking through questions about each child individually — stepping back from the rush of daily life to really see where each kid is thriving, struggling, or needing extra support. Chris explains how alignment around parenting doesn't happen by accident; it happens through regular, intentional conversations. They wrap up with a hilarious (and very real) story about nearly being manipulated into getting a third dog — a perfect metaphor for what happens when couples don't pause long enough to compare notes. When you don't get on the same page intentionally, decisions get made for you. This episode is an invitation to stop chasing your tail and start leading your family with clarity, unity, and purpose — one simple conversation at a time.
