It can be so hard to navigate through this world. We really do need guidance and the one who can provide that guidance is the Holy Spirit. As Christians, we are supposed to be encouraging to one another, but sadly most of are only concerned with themselves. Churches will often send mixed messages and so it gets very confusing. On one hand they say come to church, grow from each other, and if people don't get that growth or feel like they are welcomed, they are accused of coming to church for connection with others and not the sermon itself. A Sub-Series of A Passion for Jesus Jesus loves everyone no matter what their background. This is the attitude that should reflect in everyone who professes to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Jesus should be top priority in their lives. We can't reach others for Christ if all we do is go and around and keep condemning them for everything they do that is wrong in our eyes. Nestled deep in the Acacia Woods is a cave taken over by a Christian group called Positive Light. They are a pro-Christian group that is dedicated to spreading the gospel. S 1 Ep. 10: Anxious Heart When I heard the song by Jeremy Camp called Anxious Heart on the radio, it reminded me of a message I had shared a couple of years ago called Anxiety. I decided I wanted to repackage that message and share it again, but then I realized, it was not very well written. So, I rewrote it and I think this way it makes more sense. What do you do when you're feeling anxious? The best way to deal with anxiety is to pray. I do this most of the time. It is human nature to want to solve our problems our way. We think it won't be solved unless we put in the effort. This is true in one way. Our problems or whatever is causing anxiety, won't just disappear. It won't disappear even with prayer. We must put in effort. But the difference is, the feeling of putting in effort with God and without God, are vastly different. With God, we can have a sense of calm, without God, we are super anxious and think we must solve the problem all by ourselves. Trust God and don't let your anxiety take over. Proverbs 3: 5 and 6 reads, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. In Myrtle Beach I noticed that the fog in the morning was so thick that one couldn't see the horizon of the ocean. The ocean in the morning is very foggy, but as the morning grew, the horizon became more and more clear as the fog dissipated. I think the same thing can apply to our perspectives of others. Matthew 16:24-26 Then Jesus said to his disciples, if any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. Verse 25, If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. Verse 26, And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? A lot of people have a false idea of what Christianity is. They believe the church is full of hypocrites. Of course, it is, we are all human and so, though we try to live a life close to how Jesus would, we do fail. Some fail way more than others and it gives a false idea of what Christianity is supposed to be like. People think they have given up having fun. No, not giving up having fun, it just might be giving up a life of fun things that go against the teachings of the Bible. Don't think these things have to happen overnight. As one gets more and more involved with Christ's teachings, the more appealing Christian beliefs are. I think sometimes people have false expectations of Christians, but we are humans just the same as you. We do mess up and make mistakes. Some Christians are way too judgmental. It is not our place to judge others. There are some that will argue with me, and that's fine, go ahead, but I stand by my words that we are not to judge others. We are not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to. NIV: For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. NLT: Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don't think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. It is hard to describe a relationship with Jesus, it something each person feels on their own, unlike any other. But as for me, it is a peaceful feeling. Hell is not a peaceful place, so, it would only make sense that not having Jesus in the heart would make one feel uneasy. Peace and tranquility bring order. When you are ready to receive the peace and love of Jesus into your heart, run, don't walk to the post office. Ask Jesus to live in your heart, then find a lovely church to nurture you. Happy New Year everyone! A brand-new year. A brand-new year to start new habits. The big habit that many try to start is going to the gym. It can be hard to stick with this new habit if people don't have a good support system. If they don't get encouragement from those close to them, it can be hard to keep up the motivation. This is a lot like our Christian faith. It can be hard to keep wanting to keep the faith strong if we don't have others to help encourage us. Jesus emphasized this a lot. He emphasized that it was important for his disciples to stay connected to each other. It takes hard work and dedication to accomplish any goal. We can be each other's personal trainer, and the Holy Spirt is everyone's personal trainer. Those who are advanced in their faith can help those who are not as far along. We can inspire each other. It is also the responsible of everyone to do what it takes to grow in the faith. We need to study the scriptures, we need to make a choice, are we going to just ride in the cab or are we going to drive ourselves? S. 1 E. 2 Represent I think it is interesting how this version uses the word represent. When we represent something, it is a good idea to be the best representative we can be. We are showing others what something is about when we represent it. For instance, when a company has a spokesperson is expected to be a representative of that company, they must conduct themselves in a certain way. They must dress the part. The same goes for Christianity. I hear from so many people that have completely rejected church or even the aspect of Christianity because of how they were treated. Whomever they had contact with were not good representatives of Christ. Christ is all loving. Christ doesn't look for faults in others. He knows about them sure because he is all knowing, but he doesn't try to rub them in people's faces. When was the last time you had to ask the Lord to be with you so you felt brave? The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do for me? You see, we can't rely on people like we can the Lord. What can mere people do for me? Verse 7, the Lord is for me, he will help me. I will look for triumph at those who hate me. You know they really don't hate you. They hate the spirit of God living in you. They might not realize it, but the Lord is hated more than we are. Don't these verses make you feel so hopeful? We can be confident because we have a big powerful God looking out for us. He is on our side. You ever see parents at a game? They cheer their kids on. The kids can't hear them, but they know they are there cheering them on. They love that they are supported. Now let's take a look at Colossians 2:12. I love how this reads. For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. Isn't that just amazing imagery? When we get baptized, we are underwater, basically buried under water. We come back up a new person. I was baptized a few weeks ago. It is not my first time, but it will be my last time. I had personal reasons as to why I did it again. Let's move on. For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to a new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. So if you are discouraged right now, don't give up-don't lose hope. God is on your side. Who better to be on your side than God? When the final day of judgement comes and he calls your name, you will run out of that grave. That is how powerful God is. I have a little demonstration I would like to show you. (Do we do this outside or inside? Do we talk about how since there is a break in the rain, we can do it outside? I have some rocks that represent grudges. This big one, someone has something you have been wanting for years. This medium one, people seem to walk all over you while others get praised. This little one, someone said something to you that really ticked you off. (Keep filling the bowl with rocks) Now, this water, represents kindness and love. (Pour it over the rocks) Do you see how there isn't much room for it now because we have all these rocks in here, aka, grudges? Let's take some out. Oh, look, there is more room now. Keep going. Look, there are no grudges now, look how much love and kindness can be done now. (Now we go back inside) Being bitter doesn't help anyone. It doesn't help you and it doesn't help the person you are bitter towards. It is more taxing on your mental state than anything else, I think. This is not the character of God. It really does take more energy to be jealous and mean than it does to be kind and gentle. Let's look at Eph 4:2, “Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love. 3. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.” And now let's fast forward to 4:24, “Put on your new nature, created to be like God-truly righteous and holy.” When we start moving towards stronger discipline of ourselves, we can start putting on a new self, drenched in the Spirit of the Lord. And finally, let's end with 5:2 “Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” As you can see, it is better to live a life filled with love than of jealousy. Isaiah 9:2 The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. Whose light are they going to see? Will it be yours or will it be someone else's? Is your light bright enough? I was trimming the weeds in front of my house. They are too hard for me to pull so I just cut them down, so they are even with the stuff that isn't weeds. Well, anyway, the plug kept falling out, so I had to keep putting it back in periodically while I cut.https://youtu.be/KONCT2IFf1o You know this reminds me of how we need to stay plugged into God. When we stop going to church and stop reading the Bible and praying, we are not the same as we could be if we did plug in. The great light is God, and we are his beacons. We are set in place so that we can reflect the light of Jesus. God is like a lighthouse, and you know they have those lights that shine every which way, that is what we are, what we can be if we draw enough power from the source. Don't be a dim light bulb. Lamentations 3:22-24 Think of one friend that has been your friend the longest. Now think of the one that's been a little less. Now think of the most recent friend or someone you just met. All of these could be lifetime friends or they might not. There is one that is guaranteed to be your friend forever. God has love that will never end. He always forgives, always trusts. Every morning is a fresh start. When we commit to God we are guaranteed to inherit the kingdom of God. What sorrow for those who drag their sins behind them with ropes made of lies, who drag wickedness behind them like a cart! Isaiah 5:18What is holding you back from living in true freedom? Your past? Your shame? You don't need to live like that. God has wiped away any wrong doings of your past if you have truly asked for his forgiveness. God doesn't want you live in sorrow, he wants you to live in joy. If he didn't want that, why He put in place a forgiveness idea at all? 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If God did not forgive our sins, this scripture wouldn't exist in the Bible. I know it's hard to forgive yourself but if the God of the universe forgives you who are you to not forgive yourself? God is up in heaven with a notepad writing down our sins so that when we ask for forgiveness he can remind himself of when he forgave you before, of course, he is all knowing so he doesn't need a notepad, but he forgives and your slate is wiped clean. You know who does constantly remember your sins? Yep, you guessed it, satan. He is the ruler of destruction. All he cares about is how can he destroy what God loves the most? Oh, yeah, let's remind people of their sins. I can really destroy them now. That is what sin does. It eats away at your very core until there is barely anything left. God can restore you, especially when you are at the end of the rope. Don't let the ropes control you. Let go of them. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1: 7 I've been sitting here trying to figure out how I want to comment on this verse. First of all, yes we should all try our best to live a life dedicated to God. We should all strive every day to learn more and more about Jesus so we know the ins and outs of his character. But how do we then have fellowship with each other? If we all work together, then we can help each other reach the goal we all have- meeting Jesus in person. This is why none of us should have a haughty disposition. None of us are in are any better than anyone else. We are all striving for the same goal so why not work together instead of against each other? It's interesting how the verse says “and the blood of Jesus, his son, cleanses us from all sin.” This is no doubt referring to Jesus dying on the cross, but do you see the distinction? This verse makes a point of saying the blood of Jesus. You know my blood type is rare. Jesus has a rare blood type too unlike any other. Jesus is the only blood type that can grant eternal life. It HAD to be the blood of Jesus and the verse doesn't just say God son, but distinctly points out about the blood. You see how different God and Jesus are from other gods? Jesus will wipe away anything that prevents you from meeting him in paradise. Stay strong, stay connected, stay focused.
