Hello listeners! We can't thank you enough for your support (some of you for years!). You probably read that and thought "yeah yeah" but it's true. It means a lot to us that there are people out there who listen to us!!After more than 5 years and almost 150 episodes of The Agile Pubcast we have decided that, in 2022, we are going to make a change. We want to explain to you what we are doing and why we think it's a good thing in the hope that you will want to join us in the evolution of the world's favourite pub related agile podcast. While The Agile Pubcast has been completely free to listen to, we have also offered additional benefits such as extra content, behind the scenes access and private podcasts to a few people who have kindly decided to financially support us over the last couple of years through the Patreon platform. We have really enjoyed the greater connection we have had with our Patreon members which, we feel, makes it more of a pubcast and less of a podcast.Because we have enjoyed this, we are going to try and expand this side of things by making it cheaper for people to become patrons and simplify the subscription process. If you head over to patreon.com/theagilepubcast you see the new membership tiers we will be offering, and we hope you will join us as a member and continue listening in the new year!!Cheers,Geoff & Paul Get bonus content on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

From The Camel & Artichoke, London. The guys met up for a pre-course drink after a full day of preparation for their next in-person ACSPO course. Geoff has a shiny new toy to play with at home in an attempt to get fit, and Paul feels broken after playing rugby every week this season. And finally some advice for Product Owners out there too!! In this episode we summarise a chat with Dr Sally-Ann Freudenberg about her history as an agile coach but her passion for inclusivity and optionality in collaboration. Some really interesting insights into many assumptions we might be making about the environments we work in and how a "blended" environment might look. If you would like to hear the chat in full, check out our “full pint” membership at... https://www.patreon.com/theagilepubcast where you can gain full access as well as many other perks too!!
Geoff and Paul enjoy a hot beverage over breakfast to catch up after a few weeks apart. Paul has been back in front of a live audience which got him very excited and that got the guys onto the subject of "rituals" and why they are important to us to increase safety and reduce anxiety. Stay tuned to the very end as Geoff as a very special announcement ONLY for our pubcast listeners!
Episode 122 is a summary of our Prestigious Pints series where we catch up with some of our agile inspirations, and this time Geoff and Paul grab a drink with agile testing legend Lisa Crispin. We chatted about agile testing as a mindset and the challenges it faces in the coming years. We also get to know a little more about Lisa herself and who she feels about being known as "the agile testing lady". Other topics and questions included: Do you need to be technical to be a tester? How do you increase the appetite for agile testing in an organisation? What makes agile testing hard? What is the biggest misunderstanding about agile testing? If you would like to hear the interview in full you can subscribe as a FULL PINT patron at https://www.patreon.com/theagilepubcast
We are back!! As we reach the fag-end of the British summer we managed to grab a face to face drink outside a cidery (hence the periodic burst of wind across the microphones) on the outskirts of Cheltenham where we talked about the prospect of getting back to face to face and the mixture of excitement and nerves which led on to Geoff's various degrees of anxiety when training, speaking and coaching live and online. Somehow this meandered into a discussion about how conferences are - by design - out of date, then finding our purpose and identifying and then internalising and celebrating the value that we add. We have also uploaded the image below from social media that Geoff mentions towards the end of this episode...
Geoff and Paul recap their Prestigious Pints conversation with agile inspiration of theirs, Henrik Kniberg. They talked about the history of the Spotify model, and what made him decide to go back to being a developer again instead of coaching.
We're all goin' on a summer holiday... No more workin' for a week or two... Fun and laughter on a summer holiday... No more worries for Geoff or Paul... For a week or two...
Geoff and Paul recap their Prestigious Pints conversation with the one and only agile legend that is Lyssa Adkins. They talked a lot about mental health and wellbeing in the world and the agile environment in general as well as her career to date and future plans.
Geoff and Paul get together in a lovely Olde English pub at the source of the River Thames in the Cotswolds to talk Product Ownership. Including a discussion and debate about different 3 letter acronyms, they moved on to discuss the different mindset and psychology behind the exploit and explore states of product development. Oh yeah - and they have merch now!
Oh what a special episode this is! The boys were back inside a real pub after a full day's fishing! So, to celebrate they had not just one drink but two while talking about what people look for from training and what they ultimately get. This led them on to self-discovery and then status - whether we have a bias for high or low status, whether certain roles are more high or low status and whether our job titles affect our perception of status.
You've probably noticed our new logo - whaddaya think? And in other amazing news we got back into a real live pub! Well...outside a real live pub but that's still pretty cool, especially as the sun was out! In episode 116 we talked about the challenge of people keeping their cameras off when on work video calls. We hope you enjoy it! Cheers!
This is the summary episode of our Prestigious Pints chat with Esther Derby. In the fourth episode of our Prestigious Pints series, Geoff Watts and Paul Goddard got together (virtually in lockdown) with one of their heroes and inspirations Esther Derby. They chat about how Esther is most widely known for her work in retrospectives even though this is only a fraction of what she has done and continues to do before explaining how she got into that space. Be sure to check out the full video interview at https://www.patreon.com/theagilepubcast Enjoy!
This is an "Ask The Landlord" episode where we covered a question from one of our patrons about the speed of decisions. This led us to talk about precrastinators (like Geoff) and procrastinators (like Paul) and unconscious heuristics (or good old intuition as Paul calls it) before looking at Cynefin, decision fatigue and Paul crumbling under pressure on TV gameshows. Enjoy!!
From our homes, UK. In this episode, Geoff and Paul round-up their chat with another one of their agile heroes, Sandy Mamoli. In a new type of pubcast for 2021, Geoff and Paul will be chatting with some of their agile inspirations over a drink. If you are interested in seeing the full interview with Sandy, and getting all the new interviews as they drop, then check out our "Full Pints" membership: https://www.patreon.com/theagilepubcast Sandy is an awesome multi-lingual coach and all round individual who has blazed a trail over in New Zealand (and many other countries as well) for all things agile and it was great to finally catch up with her and chat about all things agile.
We were so excited to have a drink with the awesome Chris Williams of Badass Agile in Canada. Apart from the inevitable pandemic conversation, we discussed the concept of Mastery as a discipline. That, and how failure is still a stigma. Chris is a legend of agile podcasting, having recorded nearly 500 episodes and please do check out his website https://badassagile.com/ where you can find out about the podcast and his badass leadership program called The Forge. Chris also kindly donated some goodies just for our patrons so check out the patreon.com/theagilepubcast to see his exclusive 20 minute clip on the leader qualities of Navy SEALs and accompanying slide deck for you to re-use and enjoy.

From our homes, UK. Episode 110 is our first "proper" episode of 2021 and, after welcoming our four newest Patrons (Paul Lister, Francesco Bianchi, Erika Braverman and Lynn Olsen) we got to tackling a question from another of our Patrons in the "Ask The Landlord" feature. Andreas Wittler wanted our recommended games or exercises to re-energise a devastated team. As well as exploring that, we learned about the completion of Paul's latest Improv programme and how this week has been the best year of 2021 so far for Geoff...yes you read that correctly! Cheers everyone!

Hello listeners, Geoff and I would like to wish you, our beloved listeners, a very happy Christmas this year. It's been what can only be described as a “shitty” year for almost everyone, but I'm certainly hoping that 2021 brings much more joy and happiness and plenty more of those vaccines too! We'd like to end this year by sharing with you our Christmas song. If you are new to the pubcast, Geoff & Paul murder a Christmas classic each year all in the name of charity. This year, our nominated charity is Reach - REACH is the leading charity providing support and information to parents and their children affected by upper limb difference. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so online at https://www.paypal.com/gb/fundraiser/charity/3204381 On behalf of both Geoff and myself, we hope you have a great Christmas and we will both be back with another pubcast in the new year!!

From our homes...again. Boo!! The pubs are still closed. But in this episode, Geoff & Paul take a bit of time to catch up and reconnect after a long period of online working - which leads onto an interesting topic in itself...
Geoff and Paul are back in Lockdown and, from the comfort of their shed and home office respectively, discuss their mutual dislike of "Wrong Answers Only", getting more stupid as they get older, the iterative approach to the development and rollout of the vaccine(s) and making decisions at the last responsible moment.
Many thanks to patrons Per, Gianni and Andreas for their questions in this pubcast special! We discussed how to move from compliance to engagement (zombie scrum) and how to look for improvements in already well-versed teams. Enjoy!!
From The House In The Tree, Cheltenham, UK. In this one, the topic is Paul's favourite subject... FOOD. We talk about the kitchen as an agile environment and the merits of a certain celebrity ScrumMaster!! Enjoy!
From James And White, Boscombe, UK. In this episode, Geoff & Paul reflect on an exercise they ran during a CSP-SM class, using a structured debate to facilitate learning and empathy in their class attendees.
From The Prospect Inn, Exeter, UK. Lockdown may be tightening but we still managed to get together to grab a drink and have a chat. This time we were down in sunny Exeter at what turned out to be a haunted pub and somehow got talking about intuition - how to develop it, how it's useful and even a game you can experiment with on the subject. We then got on to talking about ghosts and a Netflix documentary about Tony Robbins before the conversation somehow looped back on itself. We hope you enjoy the episode!
From Chaplins, Boscombe, UK. In this episode, we took on some questions from our social media profiles and retold some of our favourite stories about "how we nearly got fired..." And Paul tried a new type or drink! Enjoy!
From ???? We are back! We are refreshed after our summer break and raring to go! The question is - are the lads at home or in the pub...
From our homes, UK. In the last episode before a summer break, Geoff mentions that he has been playing Product Owner again which led to a discussion about the mindset, personalities and traits of effective product ownership. From our homes, UK. We have a Guest Ale! For the first time, one of our Patrons has volunteered to appear on the show so we welcome self-confessed geek Gareth Thomas to take Geoff and Paul a little out of their comfort zone to discuss all things technical. From different levels of testing, leading and lagging indicators, Gherkin and Selenium and even something to do with Japanese Steel and Tin Mills! Nice one Gareth! If you would like to appear as a guest on our pubcast, check out the "Guest Ale" benefit on our Patreon page. (The PST Gareth references in this episode is Alasdair Macleod)

Geoff & Paul debrief how the word "value" is highly subjective, multi-dimensional and how "pain" can be a good indicator of what to do next. Enjoy!
From Our Homes, UK. Still in lockdown - still not allowed in a pub. And now I think that BOREDOM has really set in. Has the novelty factor of working remotely now worn off? Geoff & Paul discuss the drop in energy levels they have noticed from working remotely in recent days and weeks. And this led onto a discussion about how we can guarantee that we feel SAFE when working from home? An interesting thread emerges...

And how has the life of a trainer and coach changed during lockdown? We hope you enjoy the episode!
From our homes, UK. Still in lockdown! In this episode, we discuss a question from one of our listeners about how we have been adapting sprint meetings during this lockdown period. From Cheltenham, Bradford on Avon and Indiana! Recorded on 17th March so hot off the press, this is a "crossover" with another super popular agile podcast - Agile For Humans. Host Ryan Ripley joins us remotely from Indiana as we begin COVID-19 lockdown in the UK. Unsurprisingly we talk about the consequences of this for working patterns, leadership, mindset and general human nature. Not only is Ryan the host of the amazing Agile For Humans podcast but he has just co-written Fixing Your Scrum with Todd Miller. Check it out for a load of common anti-patterns undermining successful adoption of Scrum and simple fixes to them. Enjoy!
