In this episode of the Inside EMS Podcast, co-host Kelly Grayson is joined by international guest host Rob Lawrence for a candid and timely conversation on one of the most pressing issues in EMS today: fatigue and its impact on provider safety and wellness. The discussion begins with a heartbreaking story out of Georgia, where a nurse, after working consecutive night shifts, fell asleep at the wheel, leading to a fatal crash. It's a tragic reminder of the very real risks that come with long hours, disrupted sleep and chronic fatigue in healthcare—and EMS is no exception. Kelly and Rob reflect on their own experiences with sleep deprivation, shift work and the toll it takes on performance, decision-making and personal safety. They dive into the need for fatigue management policies, smarter shift scheduling, and how EMS leaders can — and must — prioritize provider health. Timeline 00:00 - 00:05: Rob introduces himself as the international correspondent for Inside EMS, stepping in for Chris Cebollero. 00:05 - 00:33: Kelly and Rob discuss the swap between Chris and Rob, along with their roles in the EMS community, providing context for the conversation. 00:33 - 03:10: Rob and Kelly discuss the tragic accident in Forsyth County, Georgia, where a nurse fell asleep behind the wheel after a night shift. They reflect on the broader issue of fatigue in healthcare professions. 03:10 - 07:01: Kelly shares his personal experience with fatigue, recounting instances of feeling like a "zombie" after long shifts and the dangers of working extended hours. 07:01 - 10:35: Rob and Kelly dive into the challenges of managing fatigue in EMS, the ongoing debate about shift lengths, and the need for policies to improve rest and working conditions. 10:35 - 12:23: The hosts discuss the importance of leadership in managing fatigue, with Rob emphasizing the need for downtime between shifts. 12:23 - 15:02: Kelly talks about his previous employer's fatigue mitigation policies and how they ensured safety through workload monitoring, proper shift lengths, and adequate pay. 15:02 - 18:00: Rob reflects on his work in California, including meetings with lawmakers to address EMS workforce issues during EMS Week. 18:00 - 23:07: The hosts discuss the systemic issues that contribute to fatigue, including poor wages, long shifts, and the overall working conditions in EMS. They conclude with a call to action for better policies and leadership to ensure the well-being of EMS professionals. [EP 25-134] The last refuge of the Leftist political scoundrel is to call anyone who disagrees with them some sort of “ist”, e.g. sexist, racist, and so on. And I have determined why Democrats resort to this.As I mentioned the other day, Democrats are very stupid by nature. But the reason they are stupid is they are intellectually lazy. Critical thinking requires some intellectual curiosity, and the ability to drill down to get to the truth.Democrats possess little to no intellect, thus by default little intellectual curiosity. This is why they readily accept spoon-fed nonsense of say, academics. These “professors” suffer from the same disease, and thus teach much of the nonsense we deal with today, like men can be women, and there are 71 genders, and so on.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-kevin-jackson-show--2896352/support.

Mallory and Seth dive into a growing crisis in higher education—burnout. Drawing from a recent Chronicle of Higher Education report, they explore the alarming data on faculty and staff exhaustion, workload increases, and political pressures. But rather than just acknowledging the issue, they focus on solutions—specifically, how AI can help alleviate burnout by automating repetitive tasks, improving efficiency, and allowing educators to focus on what they do best. Whether you're an AI skeptic or an early adopter, this episode unpacks the practical ways AI can transform higher ed workplaces for the better.Related Links: February 14 Dear Colleague LetterEd. Dept.'s Broad DEI Warning Puts College Leaders in ‘Enormously Complicated SituationKey TakeawaysHigher Ed is Overworked and Understaffed: 65% of faculty and staff report a heavier workload than five years ago, often due to layoffs and unfilled positions.Burnout is a Crisis: Faculty satisfaction is declining, with many citing increased student expectations and administrative burdens as key stressors.AI Can Be a Game-Changer: Automation tools can streamline administrative tasks, enhance student communication, and free up time for higher-impact work.Adoption Must Start from the Bottom-Up: Many higher ed leaders aren't AI users themselves, so frontline staff and teams must take the initiative in finding and implementing AI solutions.AI Implementation is Incremental: Small changes—like using AI-powered voice-to-text tools or automated content summarization—can significantly reduce workload over time. How AI Can Help Solve Higher Ed's Burnout CrisisThe Data Behind the ProblemHigher ed professionals have been feeling the strain for years, but new data puts the crisis into perspective. The Chronicle of Higher Education report found that 65% of faculty and staff say their workloads have increased compared to five years ago. More than 40% report working significantly more than before, often due to staff reductions that have left remaining employees picking up the slack. Faculty also report feeling increased pressure to meet evolving student needs, while political influences add another layer of stress—42% of respondents cited political interference as a major issue.Burnout isn't just about hours worked; it's about the mental toll of constantly feeling behind, under-resourced, and unable to focus on meaningful work. This has led to a talent retention crisis, with many experienced professionals leaving higher ed altogether. Given these challenges, institutions must urgently rethink how they support their workforce—and AI may be part of the solution. Can AI Reduce Workload and Improve Efficiency? One of the most promising solutions for burnout is the strategic use of AI to offload repetitive tasks. AI-powered tools can help faculty and staff automate administrative work, optimize communication, and even personalize student support. For example, faculty members drowning in committee work could use AI to summarize meeting notes, generate reports, or manage routine email responses.AI is already making an impact in organizations outside of higher ed. Seth shared how his agency implemented an AI enablement workshop to identify areas where automation could reduce workload. By focusing on repeatable tasks, employees were able to free up time for strategic work. In higher ed, similar approaches could help staff reclaim time for student engagement and curriculum development rather than administrative drudgery.Practical AI Tools for Higher Ed ProfessionalsFor AI adoption to succeed, it doesn't need to start with sweeping institutional change. Small, tactical implementations can make a big difference. Here are some AI tools that can help higher ed professionals right now:Voice-to-Text Software (Whisper): Converts speech into accurate text, making email writing and documentation faster.AI Summarization Tools (Notebook LM): Organizes research and synthesizes complex information into digestible insights.Loom Video Messaging: Reduces unnecessary meetings by allowing teams to communicate asynchronously with video and text-based transcriptions.ChatGPT and Other AI Writing Assistants: Helps draft reports, emails, and content, saving valuable time.Institutions that proactively integrate AI into daily workflows will be better positioned to combat burnout, retain top talent, and ultimately create a more sustainable work environment. - - - -Connect With Our Co-Hosts:Mallory Willsea https://www.linkedin.com/in/mallorywillsea/https://twitter.com/mallorywillseaSeth Odell https://www.linkedin.com/in/sethodell/https://twitter.com/sethodellAbout The Enrollify Podcast Network:The Higher Ed Pulse is a part of the Enrollify Podcast Network. "The frequency of actually guiding a soul towards their own autonomy is the highest level mastery position you could have in this life as a female." Topics Discussed Why modern motherhood feels like a trap & how to break free The illusion of control & how it sabotages your fertility How feminism may have set women up for burnout instead of freedom The real cost of trying to “have it all” & what to do instead How unresolved generational trauma affects fertility & motherhood Why masculine & feminine energy imbalances lead to dysfunction The unexpected ways children mirror your emotional wounds The importance of presence over perfection in parenting How to recognize & break toxic patterns before they pass to your kids "You're not here to give your man a baby or have a Pinterest-perfect pumpkin patch photoshoot with your child. You're here to guide a soul. That's the assignment." Hello, beautiful - Monica here and today, we're diving DEEP into a conversation that might shake up everything you thought you knew about motherhood, fertility, and, well… life itself. We're talking about the real reason so many women are burnt out, overwhelmed, and struggling—not just with fertility, but with life balance, motherhood, and relationships. You know that sneaky little voice that says, “You should be doing more”? Yeah, it's been lying to you. We're breaking down the illusion of control and how it keeps you trapped in an exhausting cycle of overwork, perfectionism, and self-sacrifice. We're exposing the dark side of feminism—the part that told us we could (and should) do it all but forgot to mention that “doing it all” comes with a side of adrenal burnout, hormone chaos, and deep dissatisfaction. And let's talk about generational baggage, because, spoiler alert: If you don't heal it, your kids WILL carry it. So grab your tea (or wine, no judgment), because this episode is a no-BS, high-energy call to action to start living in a way that actually supports your body, mind, and soul. "When you've hit rock bottom and you're, like, going through hell, you cannot control all the environmental factors around you, but you can control how you react to it. And I read this book, The Gap in the Game, and it basically says, like, focus on the good things right now. That book got me through the darkest times. We also, you know, my wife was also pregnant with our third child and that third child had some serious health defects. She spent months in the NICU and this was during the lawsuit, during the rewrite, it was like there was so much going on in my life and I was like, I'm still so lucky. It forced you to just focus on like, hey, you can't control this environment and things that happen to you, but you can control how you react. And I focused on just, like, I just wanted to make someone else smile that day. " PK shares: • Overworked and under-appreciated: the decision PK took that started it all.. • The first six months of E3: incredible sales, disbelief in the success they were experiencing, and then.. • The moment the sheriff knocked on his door serving him a summons - his previous employer, the 'Big Bad Wolf', was suing PK personally and his new company, E3, all for starting a business that was competing in the same market • Hitting a grand slam: The moment the judge called an instant ruling in their patent infringement case • Reflecting on the toll it took when he got to the point where everything he had, he could've lost in an instant • How this situation taught him that the relationships in his life are the most important thing and more. More info, resources & ways to connect - https://www.tacosfallapart.com/podcast-live-show/podcast-guests/ann-robinson This episode of Even Tacos Fall Apart explores challenges of being overwhelmed and overworked, and how to transition to a life of balance and peace. MommaFoxFire is joined by Ann Robinson, who shares her expertise as a therapist working with individuals navigating transitions and life's complexities. Ann begins by reflecting on her journey into mental health, tracing her passion back to personal experiences of loss during childhood, which sparked her desire to support others. She emphasizes the importance of finding balance by aligning actions with personal values, noting that societal pressures often push individuals to overextend themselves. Ann highlights the cultural stigmas surrounding saying no, particularly for women, and stresses the need to normalize boundary setting as a part of achieving balance. Ann defines a balanced life as one lived in alignment with core values and explains that imbalance often stems from prioritizing external expectations over personal needs. Signs of being overwhelmed can include constant busyness without productivity, feeling untethered, and emotional exhaustion. She differentiates these states from diagnosable conditions like anxiety or ADHD by assessing whether they are temporary (states) or persistent (traits) and whether they disrupt multiple domains of life. To combat overwhelm, Ann advocates addressing basic needs like adequate sleep, hydration, and nutrition, as these create a foundation for managing life's demands. For immediate relief, she suggests practical techniques like a “brain dump” to clear mental clutter or sharing worries with a trusted person who simply listens without problem-solving. Longer-term strategies include practicing “opposite action” to challenge unhelpful behaviors and “checking the facts” to avoid misinterpreting situations. Ann also discusses the psychological and physical benefits of activities like walking, tapping, or chewing gum, which can help regulate the nervous system. High-output activities, such as jumping or pushing against a wall, can release pent-up energy when stress levels are high. Periods of life transitions, such as starting a new job or experiencing family changes, are discussed as key contributors to feelings of overwhelm. Ann emphasizes the need to adjust commitments and routines during these times to manage resources effectively. She also highlights the role of social connection in maintaining mental well-being, noting that relationships foster resilience and provide essential support. Admit it: You're overworked. We spend more time working in America than any other developed country. And maybe you think we're working extra hours because we're doing work that feels necessary and engaging and fulfilling — but no. We just don't care about our jobs as much as we used to.  So, is there a way to ensure we're doing productive work that we actually enjoy? Brigid Schulte, author of Overwork: Transforming the Daily Grind in the Quest for a Better Life, spent 10 years researching our discontent with work. She eventually found countries, companies, and people who are all doing it better. Today, we're exploring one woman's journey from being a lawyer to a personal finance consultant. My guest today is Hannah Bell, who stepped off the conventional law career track despite external pressures to stay the course. While practicing law, a profound internal shift occurred listening to personal finance podcasts during long commutes. It was a wake-up call that reconnected her to a deep interest. Hannah realized she could help others align money with their deepest values. Rather than staying stuck, Hannah leaned into her Sparketype profile - her Primary, the Sage, sparked to illuminate insights, her Shadow, the Advisor, guiding growth of others, and her Anti, the Performer, which accounts for the sense of ‘energy drain' in the courtroom.  Host: Jonathan Fields, creator of Good Life Project podcast and the Sparketype® Assessment, More on Sparketypes:  Discover Your Sparketype | The Book | The Website Coaches & Leaders: Tap a Game-Changing Credential - The Certified Sparketype® Advisor Training.  Presented by LinkedIn.
