[Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. Family is a powerful thing. Yet Spangar and Danny have always had a relationship that stretches beyond family because they are also two best friends. This has allowed them to evolve and grow together as people. They have seen the best of each other and the worst and that is delivered in this podcast: how they rarely agree and yet always agree, their combative tastes, their inside jokes, their crazy family, and, of course, how they came to love literature. This is a reflective podcast on how two boys that hated literature grew into two men that need literature in their lives. It is a reflection of growing and expanding ideas as a small hope involved in a podcast helped them to elevate their abilities outside of the podcast and has helped expand their minds. There are also plenty of hilarious stories, the trials of the podcast, and what they loved about recording together. Follow as Danny and Spangar tell the story about coming to love literature, how their ideas helped The Broken Shelf grown, and then why Spangar almost came to hate reading again because of the podcast. It's a flowing story of change and how two literary cousins pushed each other to be better, but also had an overwhelmingly fun time talking about books. Aren't the simple things sometimes the best. Come say your goodbyes, as Spangar and Danny say goodbye to their time on The Broken Shelf. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original "The Broken Shelf" symbol created and published by Danny Archive. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. This week it's Danny's turn which means there is going to be a lot of ranting and raving. Joined again by his literary cousin, Danny and Spangar debate Danny's top ten books of all time. They do establish that there are a few rules - such as one novel per franchise, which was different from Spangar - but that leads to a lot of conversations as to why that particular novel is ranked higher than the other books in said series. They also cover how Danny felt emotionally at the time of reading the book and how The Broken Shelf has changed his reflection of some of the novels that are on the list. There are also a few surprises that come to the surface after some phenomenal questions by Spangar and then the end with the finally top three and three really good debates that illustrate how each of the cousins thinks and why Danny believes so heavily in his top ten. This is a can't miss episode that is a brilliant addition to the final month of The Broken Shelf. It's kind of a eulogy in a way so make sure to listen in and judge Danny for his highly emotional takes. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original "The Broken Shelf" symbol created and published by Danny Archive. As The Broken Shelf draws to a close, Spangar and Danny use the former's list of favorite books to talk about their journey and what reading has meant to the over the last six years. It is an interesting list that reflects his time as a host and critic on the podcast but also the power of nostalgia and his time reading outside of the podcast for his own entertainment. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. How does one become a genre defining author? Are they brilliant and gifted from a young age? Do they discover their gift in some strange and fanciful way? Or are the bread for greatness? If there is anything Danny has learned from his own writing and from this biography it is that legends use their life experience and will to put pen to paper. Jane Austen is one of the most celebrated authors in all of English and world history, so Danny, as a Janeit himself, made it a goal to understand why. By use of this phenomenal biography and through a dynamic conversation with one of his best friends, Danny and the Tsar deepen their understanding of who Jane was as and individual, and how the circumstances of her life and family molded her into a prolific author. They also discuss what specific events made it into the book and the problems of her romantic life. There's also a deep conversation about how important letters are to history and how little there may actually be known about Jane and her life. However, through it all, these two friends learn about one of the best authors in history. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Sound Cloud image taken from Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Jane-Austen-Jon-Spence/dp/1847250467 Original Cover Art owned by Jon Hunter Spence, Hambledon Continuum, and Carnigie Pubishing. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. It's a sad day because the sun has to set on the discussion of Danny Archive's favorite light novel franchise. He explores in this episode why this particular franchise is not only important to the past him but why it is important to who he is as an individual now and how he knows it will continue to effect and mold him into the person he wants to be. That isn't to say that he doesn't recognize fault in one of his favorite entries. Danny seeks to explore why the younger him loved volume eleven and why the current him sees fault. It's a perfect evolution of he he is as a reader and who he hopes to be as an author. Beyond that he provides some positive and negatives, but at the end he ranks all of the novels presented on The Broken Shelf for a nice final segment and exit to the series. Like most of the final podcasts this is an emotional one for Danny so come in and reviews one of his favorite franchises with him and hopefully he can get you to read it for yourself. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Sound Cloud image taken from Seven Seas Entertainment at: https://sevenseasentertainment.com/books/mushoku-tensei-jobless-reincarnation-light-novel-vol-11/ Original Cover Art owned by Rifujin no Magonote, Shirotaka, KC Fabellon, Seven Seas Entertainment, and Kadokawa INC. What a range of emotions this franchise has brought the brothers: from blissful to optimistic to pessimistic and ending in rage. This episode tested the brothers and in an unusual twist they were actually on the same side. For three episodes they had the anime to pull back on and compare the product with but when by its lonesome the source material rapidly failed. Danny and Travis have so many problems from the structure, translation, art, and definitely in the narrative. They try their best to give the positives - they even have a balance positive and negative list - but they are brothers so of course the weight of the negatives fully destroy any sense of grandeur in the fourth instalment of this light novel series. Make sure to listen in about a lot of the dangerous topics and Danny goes on a classic rant in the end. However, also make sure to listen in past the final rating because this episode will be Travis Archives' last on The Broken Shelf and Danny gives him time at the end to reflect on what the podcast has meant to him. It's a great moment between brothers as they get a little emotional and talk about why literature is so important. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Sound Cloud image taken from Yen-Press at: https://yenpress.com/9780316385213/no-game-no-life-vol-4-light-novel/ Original Cover Art owned by Kamiya Yuu, Media Factory, Kadokawa Corp, and Yen Press. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. Taking a page from his first solo episode over four years ago, Danny found inspiration in the form of a song from one of his favorite bands. Said song made him interested in a certain historical topic but Danny wasn't really in the stingy history mood. However, like always, and for some reason he was in the romantic mood, and for once he accepted the help of the Amazon algorithm when it suggested a romantic book in the form of historical fiction. History and romance? Sign Danny up. That said Danny goes about his usual spiel and hammers the novel for some structural and character problems. Historical fiction is a strange literature genre and Danny makes sure to cover why it is as such, and why the author's integration of limited characters hurt the over arching historical event. He also makes sure to cover the event itself in a limited way and the backstory of why he chose the novel in the first place. For nearly four years Danny and the crew have progressed as people and as readers and today Danny gets to share his evolution with his mother. Roughly five years ago his mother was complaining about not having anything to read when Danny did the unthinkable and recommended a series to her. It was a shock. How could "he" recommend any book to her. Yet that was truth. Danny had changed and one of the books that allowed him to love literature again is the title they review today. Though it has been five years since they both read it the first time, their worlds have changed and evolved again so they come into this review with a different look. Together they talk about what made Danny originally buy the series - which is more of a confession to his mother - and then they talk about some of their initial impressions from last time. They then cover the wonderful set of characters and world, and why it's so relatable to them because of where they come from. Then it is on to a normal review with some back an forth. To end out the podcast Danny has a candid conversation with everyone. It's an emotional read and an emotional podcast. That objective becomes much harder than Danny anticipated. Danny covers why, although narratively still sound, volume eleven suffers from a subpar and frankly random set of circumstances with the pacing. Despite that, however, Danny does gush over why volume ten does so many things right when it comes to character development and world building. There is a lot to unpack, and Danny talks about a few things outside the podcast in regards to The Broken Shelf. Come listen in and figure out why Danny loves this light novel so much. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Sound Cloud image taken from Seven Seas Entertainment at: https://sevenseasentertainment.com/books/mushoku-tensei-jobless-reincarnation-light-novel-vol-10/ Original Cover Art owned by Rifujin no Magonote, Shirotaka, KC Fabellon, Seven Seas Entertainment, and Kadokawa INC. It was a promise made long ago by the two friends that they would revisit the work of David Dalglish. Danny may have been overcritical when reviewing Dalglish's work "The Shadowdance" franchise, but there was still something there inspiring to the young critic and Danny wanted Allen to join him as he tracked down Dalglish's first works. The day of destiny is here and this time both of the duo read the book. Together the cover what the first book in Dalglish's library holds and what it does really well as a first novel and some of the intricacies left over that Danny saw in "Shadowdance." They cover the plot and the the major characters, as well as the phenomenal sense of brutality and combat. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. This episode starts off somberly with a talk about their futures. With his partner, Danny and Allen make a big announcement that will call in the final era of The Broken Shelf. It is said but they have a deep conversation about why and what it means for everyone. After a little calm they shift into something that is very important to them: writing. They have done it twice before to celebrate Danny's books but this time they are doing a lot of generalization and sharing of their thoughts about writing as a whole. They talk about their weaknesses and some of the goals and tips they have for each other and other listeners, or young writers. But still, while the episode is filled with laughs and constructive conversation, it is somber, and the duo just hopes you have a blast either way. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original "The Broken Shelf" symbol created and published by Danny Archive. Or at least Ave Ventura screams at the top of his lungs in one of Danny's favorite comedy movies. But what does the truth say about one of his favorite light novel franchises. For ten novels the younger sister's secret has been festering and finally she makes a choice and reveals it in front of all of Itsuki's friends. Things are changing. Things had to change. Those changes are what Danny wants to talk about. Danny goes through volume ten and discusses the consequences of Chihiro's actions and how and why it got to the point of confrontation. Throughout he also analyzes the characters and how they have progressed or how they react to the truth. The status quo has been broken, but what does that mean for Yomi-sense's structure, style, and presentation of the narrative. Danny covers most of it and has a great time analyzing one of the most relatable light novel series on the market. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Sound Cloud image taken from Yen-Press at: https://yenpress.com/9781975316457/a-sisters-all-you-need-vol-10-light-novel/ Original Cover Art owned by Shogakukan, Yen Press, Kantoku, and Hirasaka Yomi.Original "The Broken Shelf" symbol created and published by Danny Archive. Once more Danny finds himself at the end of a trilogy and at the end of an era with one of his favorite authors. This particular trilogy challenged him in ways he never knew and once more he had to face off against the old enemy of expectation - and once more he lost. This isn't to say that Danny didn't find greatness in the novel. Some new characters breathe new life into the franchise, and along side them the final arcs for certain characters reach a worth while crescendo, but at the end of it all what is Danny's relationship with Glenda Larke? The final novel of this trilogy asks some pretty hard questions, and yet it leaves questions, and sometimes, Danny argues, makes some of the previous two books more redundant than he could have imagined. Emotions run high but Danny has to control himself and provide a thorough review as to why his disappointment was not just a function of false expectation, but of some simple failures of literature and writing. This journey is over, so come listen in and see what Danny has to say. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Sound Cloud image taken from Glenda Larke's website at: https://glendalarke.com/the-forsaken-lands/the-fall-of-the-dagger/ Original image owned by Glenda Larke, Orbit, and Hachette books. Danny and the Tsar have made it their purpose over the last four year to at least expose and re-introduce some of the more refined and feared literature genres. They've tackled poetry, the ferocious form ensemble of colorful languages that has for a long time been the work of greats but has left this new age of readers quivering. Then they went after the short story and how the succinct form narrative opens countless avenues for style and transformation of language. Danny even reviewed a book about the cancer of the five paragraph essay and how it has left generations of potential great writers floundering in mediocrity. Now they take on its parent and discuss the essay genre as a whole. Come and discover why the essay can be and is so powerful, and maybe why it has faded. The Tsar provides anecdotes from some of his favorites and leaves a long list of great authors, while Danny guides the conversation in a constructive way. When did the concept of three novels to complete a larger story come in to being? It's something the majority of readers and movie goers accept as normal, and yet we continually accept some of the faults that trilogies bring with them. Regardless if they are one of the best in the game, even Brandon Sanderson can't escape some of the problems and Danny outlines a few in his review. He starts with the difficulties of "The Reckoners" franchise as a whole and how it was hard for him to be fair in his review. He then went into a summary and at the end of the review covers the franchise as a whole. As per usual, Danny had a lot to say and a lot of the negativity swimming through the review is based on the weakness of the characters and the problem with writing trilogies. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. Because of the constraint on their publishing size, light novels advance, usually, at a slower pace when it comes to narrative. In some instances this allows the author creative liberty with their characters because they are the central focus of said narrative. However, sometimes these two aspects counter act each other when the status-quo has to change. Is that what happens in this newest entry? Danny talks about it and discusses the difficulties of building such a realist world while simultaneously trying to retain a sense of fiction. Probably because Mamma Archive always sang it whenever the topic came up or she was feeling particularly evil. Nevertheless, that song does carry a certain tone to it much like this review. The subject of money is dangerous but must be discussed, and for Danny you can't understand anything unless you look at the origin. Dissecting the history of money and how the modern age of credit came about, Danny uses the thesis of the author to talk about the morality of money, the history, and historical writing. It is always interesting when an anime ends because it's at that point that the media of animation usually diverts from how the source material ends. That's exactly what Danny and Travis get with this insane franchise by Kamiya Yuu, and they have different opinions on the matter. And that's not the only thing they disagree on. In an unusual turn of events, Danny has a lot less to complain about for volume three while Travis is arguably very angry about some of the context and character development. The Broken Shelf 187: Drama Anime

[Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. Drama can be a mixed genre. When does something go from the personification of the human condition and either giving in to the weakness of life or the jubilation of triumph, or just plain melodrama. The genre of drama can be so subjective to the individual, and that is why the medium of live actions makes it difficult to deliver. Anime can be the same but arguably it has one advantage: animation. Color, expressionism, voice acting, and the ability to use inhuman elements, almost make the majority of drama anime more human than their live action counterparts because the story can't just be simple otherwise those other important factors seem superficial. A good drama anime is well rounded and can enhance the overall experience because it is an animation. That's exactly what the two brother set out to discuss. Using some of their favorite dramas, Travis and Danny talk about the elements which make drama anime such glorious pieces of art and animation. They talk about the advantages of the drama anime over live action, but also how watching other shows eventually led to watching drama anime and why they hit so hard when you do take that genre leap. Come listen as the two brothers let out some emotion and get a little more human. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original "The Broken Shelf" symbol created and published by Danny Archive. There is something to each universe that he designs that draws Danny and the others in, but is this the first time the relationship gets wobbly? While Danny is relatively positive, there is something lingering in the background between his words and eventually some of the spite starts to creep out. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. The franchise has entered Danny's favorite era. When he reflects and thinks back on his time with this series and what it meant for him it's these next three novels that he thinks about the most. For some the return to the school setting will prove to be detrimental to a series that felt and read like something out of the Japanese cultural norm, but to Danny, and he thinks to a larger audience, that is the exact reason Rifujin makes his franchise so much fun. Volume eight challenges the norm of the light novel industry and because of its unorthodox writing style and attention to nuance and details for character growth and world building, Danny gets to have some fun with exploring what makes this franchise so magical. That isn't to say that there isn't something wrong with it. It's been a while since Danny has read this entry and with a fresh perspective he does see more of its faults. Nevertheless, come listen in as Danny gets to talk about one of his favorite light novels from one of his favorite franchises. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Soundcloud image prodivided by Seven Seas Entertainment at: https://sevenseasentertainment.com/books/mushoku-tensei-jobless-reincarnation-light-novel-vol-8/ Original Cover Art owned by Rifujin no Magonote, Shirotaka, KC Fabellon, Seven Seas Entertainment, and Kadokawa INC. Randomly discovering an insane and perverted anime series, Danny, on a whim, decided one day to pick up the source material and everything he thought about the series changed. Although he has never read the light novel source material, the same could be said for Spangar who decided to try the series in a semi-stupor. Together these cousins discuss why something so simple turned into something with more depth than anticipated. Hormones and hijinks, to a western audience this series may be the exact reasons anime and light novels can't be taken seriously, but the cousins suspect it is because of the nuances and addictive story telling style that Ishibumi Ichiei's series goes beyond expectations. Decorated with numerous awards and celebrated as a wonder high fantasy, and yet Danny can't see it. And to an extent that is slightly literal. The brothers return for another duel in the light novel medium and by comparing and contrasting the product with its anime version as well as its previous novel they hope to elaborate on some of the issues as well as how the author and series grew. This time they don't have as much to discuss about the light novel as a literary foundation and so they focus more on the novel itself and how it functions as opposed to its first iteration. This does lead to some heated discussion, though, about plot and other variables. Questions for later because apparently they do and with the harvest theme in full swing it allows the crew to experience a plethora of hot situations and introduce a plethora of interesting new monster girls. Add to the fact that in a rare sense of narrative nuance, the protagonist of a harem genre has to solve a real mystery, win the heart of a fair maiden (and mean it, unlike most schmucks that do it out of principle), and stun the women he loves with a surprise. However, this particular topic is especially important to Danny for numerous reason in which he will go into during the review. One of the prime reasons is because Portugal is severely overlooked when discussing global or European history. The tiny Iberian nation is usually overshadowed by its bigger Spanish brother and Danny hopes to correct that today because the global impact of Portugal is still felt today. For literature it is cave drawings, those wonderful, rudimentary sketches on the walls done in crude paint. However, before language, those drawings were language; so what, by extension, is their current iteration? Children's books. And what better way for Danny to analyze the importance of children's books than by talking to his mother. Together they go over some general concepts about the importance of children's books but then the episode drifts into an interview of Danny's mother and what she thinks about the evolution and current standing of children's book are in American culture. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. Danny's had a lot of time to think about this volume. Maybe more so then any others because he was cynical and pessimistic about reading it again. Years before when he first picked the series up to read he wasn't the biggest fan of volume seven and when he read the series again a year later he skipped it. Now he considers himself someone of a different mind and it was only fair to give the volume another chance. But what did that mean? Why didn't he like it? Why did he skip it? How does the him of now find it? All those questions are answered inside the podcast. Danny takes a look at his favorite light novel franchise and analyses why it works, and can only work if you don't skip a volume. Danny recognizes that this franchise is a sum of its parts, even if a few of the things in volume seven still don't work. Richard Kadrey puts his protagonist through a lot, but maybe none so dangerous as a trip back to Hell to stop his mortal enemy from using Hell's soldiers to invade Heaven. Can you do that while juggling all the new relationships he's built on Earth. Danny has a lot to say about the third instalment of this insane urban fantasy novel. He covers the development of the lore, the characters, and Kadrey's style of prose. He looks at the not so good which may or may not include new and old characters. He also takes a closer work at the biggest fault of the novel and why it may be hard for others to see it otherwise. Is it metaphorical? Physical? Metaphysical? Maybe more importantly, when does a journey end? Does it end when a new one begins? That's the quandary Danny has to question when reviewing the sixth novel of one of his favorite series. A major arc is ending and a new one is beginning, but what happens at the end that propels the next into existence? Danny looks over Rudy's journey and how volume six reflects on the character and the universe as a whole. He takes a look at the first six novels and how the first major arc ends. He also discusses why the expansion of the lore and world is a good and bad think from a character stand point. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. It is always good to revisit what helped inspire. It's been roughly five years since Danny returned to the realm of literature and one author that helped revitalize a lost love was Kelly McCullough. He has been there since the inception of The Broken Shelf but his series "The Fallen Blade" has not been discussed as much as the others. This fact had to be changed because it is in fact this series that led Danny to "Webmage" and later to The Broken Shelf. That said, this revisit was a tough one for Danny because the last five years have, frankly, morphed him into a better and different person. So, how does he feel about this series now? For the first half of the episode Danny goes solo and discusses the positives and negatives of the first book of the series: how and why the mirror antagonists works; how McCullough's dark fantasy is so vibrant in the darkness; the imaginative magic and brutal choreography; but also the negatives of pacing and depression. Then in the second half he is joined by Spangar and they debate the book. No matter what though, it is an interesting journey for the hosts and they discuss the intricacies of making great fantasy. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Soundcloud image provided by McCullough's website at: https://kellymccullough.com/the-fallen-blade-story/broken-blade/ Original cover art owned by Kelly McCullough, John Jude Palnecar, Judith Lagerman, Ace Books, The Berkeley Publishing Group, Penguin Books, Original "The Broken Shelf" symbol created and published by Danny Archive. For most readers there are usually multiple authors that you have to rush out and complete your collection for. When Danny was just finding his way through his own fantasy tastes he ran into such an author. It's been a while since he read any of her work but he was anticipating the journey that he hoped would match the same he had the first time he read her work. He was wrong. However, sometimes that is to be expected when you set expectations so high. On today's episode follow Danny's journey as he shares his first experience with Madam Glenda Larke, and why this particular trilogy, or at least the first book in said trilogy, was overall a disappointment. Danny argues how the characters fail, and how the incredible islander setting ended up hurting the plot. He also compares it to her first trilogy and where he thinks she lost the flare that she had previously. That said, there are still plenty of positives within and he makes sure to point those out as well. Volume six tests Danny in the right ways, and he was incredibly satisfied with the foundation built by Origuchi-sensei, and how the light novel author has grown in his craft. Danny goes into the summary and then into a very light hearted list of positives and negatives. Really, Danny goes on some tangents because Origuchi-sensei does a few things his contemporaries are scared to do - or maybe their editors won't let them do, but that's another discussion entirely. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. How many times does Danny have to say it? World War I or The Great War is his favorite subject on history. He did an entire eleven episode stretch on the subject after all. So how much more does he have to talk about? A lot. Because the subject is ever evolving and the voices providing information all have their own individual takes on the subject. Therefore, Danny wanted to take this opportunity to do something he really didn't get to do during his celebration and that is address The Great War at a macro level. There were a few books that explained macro phenomena, but Danny didn't care at the time to talk about the entire brutal 1914-1918 experience in a small podcast. However, this time he feels like he has the book and the structure to do so. He also has more confidence than the host three years ago. Separating the episode in ten macro questions and using evidence from Historian Niall Ferguson, Danny has an open, opinionated conversation about World War I, and why it was a pity, but also the personification of the human race. Enjoy the inspiring love of history with the crazy Danny Archive. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Sound Cloud imagery taken from Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/Pity-War-Explaining-World/dp/0465057128 Original Cover Art owned by Niall Ferguson, Basic Books, Perseus Book Group, Siefried Sasson, and George Sasson. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. Lots of talk has been carried out through history about the importance of dreadnaughts and battleships leading up to and during the Great War. But what happen to these titans of metal? Specifically what happened to the ships of the German Empire, the side that 'lost?' Giant objects of metal aren't the easiest things to lift from the bottom of Mother Ocean - why don't you think we ever lifted the Titanic from her grave? It takes either a genius or a madman to do what Mr. Ernest Cox did after the dust had settled in Europe, but his story, and the graceful and poignant style of author Tony Booth make for a fabulous tale about sunken ships, human ingenuity, and the deeper side of history some try to ignore. Join Danny as he treads new water and discovers a critical analysis style he's missed and the riveting tale of a crass man his crew called 'father.' ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Sound Cloud imagery taken from Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0091WB98U/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 Original Cover Art owned by Tony Booth, and Pen & Sword Maritime, Original "The Broken Shelf" symbol created and published by Danny Archive. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. Progress in light novels is sometimes a dangerous thing for the author but it's what the audience craves. Back and forth the author goes between where they want their story to go, what the audience demands, and what their publisher economically wants. Danny discusses all those factors while having an in-depth character analysis of one of his favorite light novels. This series gives him a chance to look closely at the light novel market, but also why the characters of Yomi-sensei are so relatable. There is a lot to like, but Danny goes on a few rants about what really didn't work in this entry. If you love slice-of-life romcoms, then this is the review for you, and if you love dissecting characters and literature markets, it is also the bonfire you want to warm up with. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. It's that time of the new year and Danny and the Tsar go listing. As a reflection of last year's successful conversation, they decide to go from local to international with their lists. While the English language and the countries it calls home have produce some of history's greatest novels, English is not the only language on earth and certainly not the youngest. Centuries before common English other cultures and languages have produced just as legendary of works. That is their goal for their yearly list podcast: Proclaim their top five favorite, top five overrated, and top five most anticipated classics in the international market. Filled with dynamic conversation about Canadian authors, French realism, German philosophy, and the the insanity of creativity in pre-modern classics, Danny and the Tsar have an inspired conversation filled with laughs, education, and literature. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. European history is filled with the legend of kings. In fact, you could argue most of that history was formed by the whims and strategy of said kings. But what about the queens? Were they simply used as political devices and breeders? Sarah Gristwood argues that the world we know today is a result of the powerful queens we know little about. More than just Elizabeth, the monarchs of the sixteenth-century were or had to converse with powerful women; woman the contemporary society should learn more from and about. Danny dives into a story filled with many protagonists, but to drive how the author's might point and position, he focuses on two sister's and how their rivaling kingdom led them to overseeing one of Europe's greatest, but short lived peace. Take a listen as Danny provides a history lesson on two fascinating women and how much he loves the phenomenal work of Gristwood. Thirteen weeks of manga and a legacy of fan-service and complicated artistic transformation. Danny goes through the summary of the final volume, his final list of positives and negatives, and then gets to have a little fun. It's a little bitter sweet as he rolls through the final volume, talking about how things work and didn't work as the climax unfolds, but he still gives praise where it is deserved. As the rating comes to a close, Danny delivers on a few promises and lists his final ratings for the covers and the volumes in order of worst to best and then finishes the podcast with an overall review of the series as a whole.
