Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with Australian journalist and former prime minister, the Honourable Tony Abbott. They discuss Australia's role on the world stage, the problems facing their economy and culture, how the quasi-cult of carbon threatens the developing world, why new religions propagate where faith has been abdicated, and the looming threat of war as China destabilizes while Putin pushes forward against Ukraine. Tony Abbott was elected prime minister by the Australian people on September 7, 2013, and served for two years. In that time, the carbon tax and mining tax were repealed, free trade agreements were finalized with China, Japan and Korea; the people smuggling trade from Indonesia to Australia were halted, and Australia became the second largest military contributor to the US-led campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq. Currently, he is a director of the Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation, serves on the council of the Australian War Memorial, and is an adviser to the UK Board of Trade. He's patron to several charities, including Soldier On, the International Sports Promotion Society, and Worldwide Support for Development. - Links - For The Honourable Tony Abbott Website https://tonyabbott.com.au/ On X https://twitter.com/hontonyabbott?lang=en

Dr Brendan Nelson was Liberal Party leader and Leader of the Opposition in Australia in 2007-08. After he retired from politics, he became Director of the Australian War Memorial, and has a masterly knack of sharing the stories of this country's military heroes. The feature speech here was delivered in 2014 at a Soldier On charity fundraiser. Tony's cohost for this episode, comedian and Utopia star Anthony 'Lehmo' Lehmann was MC that night, and watched in awe as Dr Nelson explained the significance of a George Lambert print and its special frame, and watched bidding rocket from $1000 to $40,000 immediately. Lehmo says it is the greatest speech he ever saw live. The original audio is not available but Dr Nelson told the story as part of his 'five most significant artifacts at the Australian War Memorial' section of his Howard Oration in 2021, and that audio is included. There is also some beautiful singing at the end of this 50th episode of the podcast, by Private Ken Gant who was killed at the Battle of Long Tan, and recorded a song for his mother the day before he was deployed. /If you enjoy Speakola please do one or more of the things that help poidcasts: Tell someione; Rate or review us in iTunes, or support me financially. In Episode 117 of the No Limitations podcast Knowing Your Own Mind, Blenheim Partners' Gregory Robinson speaks to the 28th Prime Minister of Australia, The Hon Tony Abbott AC. He was the Member for Warringah in the Australian Parliament from 1994 to 2019. In an open conversation, we unpack Tony's thoughts on the current state of Australia, its leadership and standing on the world stage. Considering where he sees society heading from the debate in Australia leading up to the referendum and the cost-of-living crisis to the ongoing conflicts overseas and shifts in the power balance, we discuss his concerns for the country and the world at large. Finally, we uncover his thoughts on leadership and how it starts with one's self. Tony served as Prime Minister for two years following the 2013 Australian federal election. He was the Leader of the Opposition from 2009 to 2013 and also served as a Cabinet Minister during the Howard Government. Currently, Tony is a Director of the Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation, serves on the council of the Australian War Memorial, and is an adviser to the UK Board of Trade. He is a patron to several charities, including Soldier On, the International Sports Promotion Society, and the Worldwide Support for Development. In 2020, he was appointed as a Companion of the Order of Australia and in 2022, he was conveyed with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun. “Step inside, walk this way…” The world just wouldn't be the same without Dave Mustaine and MEGADETH. No one else in metal embodies the same snarling, vengeful angst against the psychopathic “powers that be” as Mega Dave, and the band's 16th studio offering, “THE SICK, THE DYING…AND THE DEAD!” once again proves it. With topics running the gamut from space travel, war, and (actual) plague to nuclear disaster and shameless celebrity selfie queens, Dave has once again masterfully unleashed his passionate disgust and contempt for everything that has negatively tainted our world with furious thrash-tactical precision that is intricately woven together with thin threads of progressive metal grandeur. Go ahead and get your “cortisone shart” out of the way before you slip into your “finger pants” and “request a to-go box” while preparing for the imminent “air horn frenzy” that awaits as you indulge in “a handful and a mouthful” and JOIN US for a dive into MEGADETH: THE SICK, THE DYING…AND THE DEAD! Today I’m honored to speak with Bruce Buckley (CEO) and David Ramirez (Home and Credit Financial Education Program Manager) from Soldier On, a private nonprofit organization committed to ending veteran homelessness. Since 1994, the organization has been providing homeless veterans with transitional housing and supportive services. In 2010, Soldier On opened the first Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Community, a permanent housing cooperative that provides formerly homeless veterans with safe, sustainable, affordable housing – transitioning them from homelessness to homeownership. This housing model has now been replicated seven times, and currently comprises 300 apartments (and growing) in the Massachusetts and New Jersey region. Bruce and David talk with me about some inspirational success stories of veterans who started with nothing, on the streets, unsheltered and unaware of the many benefits and programs available to help them. From financial counseling to help them establish and build credit, to VA loans that can enable them to become homeowners, Soldier On continues to change the end of the story for homeless veterans throughout the country. Lending Forward is a weekly podcast hosted by Taylor Ellard and powered by Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group. We bring you raw stories from real people in the mortgage industry. We're covering what's next in lending, forward-thinking, and reflecting on lessons learned from Mortgage Bankers, Realtors, Financial Advisors, Coaches, and more! How are you lending it forward? [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. It's a sad day because the sun has to set on the discussion of Danny Archive's favorite light novel franchise. He explores in this episode why this particular franchise is not only important to the past him but why it is important to who he is as an individual now and how he knows it will continue to effect and mold him into the person he wants to be. That isn't to say that he doesn't recognize fault in one of his favorite entries. Danny seeks to explore why the younger him loved volume eleven and why the current him sees fault. It's a perfect evolution of he he is as a reader and who he hopes to be as an author. Beyond that he provides some positive and negatives, but at the end he ranks all of the novels presented on The Broken Shelf for a nice final segment and exit to the series. Like most of the final podcasts this is an emotional one for Danny so come in and reviews one of his favorite franchises with him and hopefully he can get you to read it for yourself. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Sound Cloud image taken from Seven Seas Entertainment at: https://sevenseasentertainment.com/books/mushoku-tensei-jobless-reincarnation-light-novel-vol-11/ Original Cover Art owned by Rifujin no Magonote, Shirotaka, KC Fabellon, Seven Seas Entertainment, and Kadokawa INC. Christian Stenner is a man with very diverse interests. We invited him on this podcast because Kim connected with him when he was running the Sinister 7 100 miler this summer, however as she got to know him she discovered ultrarunning is just one of the many things to which he devotes his time. Christian lives in Calgary, AB with his wife and his dog. In addition to his day job, he is an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces specializing in leadership development of youth in the Army Cadet Program. He is a search and rescue coordinator specializing in cave rescue, a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and the Explorers Club, and is dedicated to sharing unknown parts of the world with others while contributing to citizen science. If you aren't sure what citizen science is...keep listening! This summer Christian did the Canada Army Run “Sandbag Edition” by combining all the distances offered to run approximately 42km with a 40 lb sandbag on his shoulders in order to raise awareness and funds for Soldier On.Although Christian describes himself as “a low performance athlete who runs and attempts to run ultramarathons with mixed success,” one could question his meaning of success. A member of the Altra Running Team, he placed third man in the Sinister Triple this year, completed the 2019 Lost Soul 200K, and raised $11,000 for Wellspring Calgary in the 2018 Challenge the Chief firefighter stair climb. We don't know where he gets all his energy, but Christan Stenner is a man on a mission and we hope he inspires you to challenge yourself, combine your passions, and help someone in the process!CORRECTION: Kim incorrectly stated that the ground reaction force increases by 5-10% with each foot strike. In this week's episode, Alice and Nicolas interview actor and playwright Jonathan Guy Lewis. Jonny joined the army on leaving university, but illness halted his training and after months in hospital he changed direction and embarked on an acting career. His military experiences came in handy when he was cast as Sgt Chris McCleod in the TV series Soldier Soldier, but they have also informed his writing and his work as Artistic Director of the Soldier's Arts Academy. In the podcast, Jonny talks particularly about his award-winning play Our Boys, which is set in a military hospital and explores the experiences of a group of injured soldiers as they wrestle with PTSD, among other challenges. He also explains what prompted him to write his more recent play Soldier On, which again looks at PTSD and the challenges faced by veterans and their families as they navigate the complex transition from military to civilian life. As Jonny has said in the past, 'Soldier On is dedicated to all those who come home after war, but don't really come back. And to all their loved ones and friends who know what it's like to live with the thousand yard stare.' He is a firm advocate for the power of storytelling in the healing process, so we discuss that - and we also talk about the work of the Soldier's Arts Academy, which gives soldiers, veterans and the wider military community opportunities to get involved in the creative and performing arts, either as part of recovery or to help them develop new skills. Among other questions, we asked Jonny:What was he trying to communicate with his play Our Boys about war and soldiering? What aspects of war and soldiering was he particularly keen to highlight in his play Soldier On?How can theatre help explain PTSD and other challenges that soldiers/veterans face to a wider public? What role can storytelling - and especially drama and acting - play in helping people process trauma themselves? What role do historic stories and archetypes play in helping society wrestle with the ethics and impacts of war?We hope you enjoy the episode!
