Welcome to episode 719 of Secrets of Organ Playing Podcast. This question was sent by Kurt and he writes:Dear Vidas,Thanks for Your newsletter and the advice and remarks for technical topics such as registration and daily exercises. My dream at the moment (as on beginner level) is to coordinate the pedal playing - it causes me so much power (and pain?) to get the brain (and hands and feet) in the right moment on the correct key on the manual(s) and or the pedal. It seems this will be a long way to go and get the body "divorced" for the time playing the organ. What holds me back?First, my own impatience, trying to proceed quicker than needed or expected from my teacher.Second, to leave the flat walking to the (cold) church for practicing....Third is, to not have enough funds to buy an organ for at home (and the space to install it here in my flat). So I hope You can follow my thoughts about organ playing and are of help for Your new coaching program.Wish You a great further day.Best regards from GermanyKurt. You can support this channel by becoming a member here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO4K3_6QVJI_HlI5PCFQqtg/joinIf you like what I do, you can buy me some coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/organduoPayPal: https://PayPal.Me/VPinkeviciusWe support Ukraine: https://www.blue-yellow.lt/enMy Hauptwerk setup: https://www.organduo.lt/tools.htmlTotal Organist - the most comprehensive organ training program online: https://www.organduo.lt/total-organistSecrets of Organ Playing - When You Practice, Miracles Happen! https://organduo.ltListen to my organ playing on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0ckKPIvTWucoN3CZwGodCO?si=YWy7_0HqRvaZwBcovL-RKg#secretsoforganplayingpodcast #vidaspinkevicius #ausramotuzaite
Revengin - Wish You the Same but Worse Single's release date : 28 January 2025 Brazil's symphonic metal maestros Revengin have unleashed their latest single and music video, "Wish You the Same but Worse", an unflinching anthem of liberation, retribution, and emotional reckoning. This blistering track lays bare the raw emotions that simmer beneath the surface when faced with betrayal and injustice. A fearless cry against the repression of pain, "Wish You the Same but Worse" offers an empowering message: confront the hurt, embrace the rage, and find catharsis in the reckoning. Visualizing the Struggle Within The accompanying video mirrors this emotional storm, plunging viewers into an intense mental duel between reason and emotion. Dark, brooding visuals of black and red reflect the suffocating weight of anguish, while flashes of light and jets of cold fire capture the explosive release of long-repressed feelings. It's visceral. It's cathartic. It's Revengin. This single is the third release from their upcoming album, Dark Dogma Embrace, slated to drop in early 2025, promising to cement Revengin's place as a force in the global metal scene. ------------------------------------------------ Revengin Bio Revengin is a Brazilian metal band founded in 2008 by experienced musicians from Rio de Janeiro. How's your computer looking right now? Can you find what you need in a couple of clicks? Or do you spend a tonne of time looking through files and folders trying to get a hold of something important that you know you've saved somewhere but just can't remember where, or even what the file name is? You'll be pleased to know, there's actually a way you can simplify your approach to storing and retrieving digital information, and you don't have to do anywhere near as much organising as you think to make this process really smooth and easy to action. A lot of us slip into a habit of filing digital things that can (much more) easily just be searched for. You don't have to micro-manage your files like we did 10 or 15 years ago, as long as you're naming your files right. When you start to think of FINDING as the goal, not FILING as the goal, you can start being smarter in how you name files, and how (or whether) you label emails. They don't need to be filed, they just need to be found. Now I know this is outside the realm of usual thinking for most of us, so I've got someone on the show today who's going to make this so easy to understand and implement. My guest today is a Google tools pro and master of improving efficiency through digital organization. Dara Sklar is like a tech-savvy Monica Geller, but is a lot less demanding (and shrill

And so I kind of had to roll with the punches. And then sometimes you get busy and things get messy. So my best piece of advice for people in that scenario is to just actually say, okay, who am I today? What are the needs of my business today?”“One of my favorite things to do is to keep the inbox an action-oriented place. Meaning when there are emails in the inbox, it's because I have to do something with them.”“We need to keep it a little bit of a sacred space and ask: what's the point of our businesses? Are we here to make money? Are we here to serve the world? We're not necessarily here to consume or to read newsletters or whatever. Those can be secondary activities. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Public beliefs vs. Private beliefs, published by Eli Tyre on June 1, 2022 on LessWrong. A distinction that I get a lot of value out of is the difference between private beliefs and public beliefs. Public vs. Private A public belief is a proposition that someone thinks is true, and justifying on the basis of legible info and reasoning. If X is a public belief, then implicit claim is "not only do I think that X is true, I think that any right thinking person who examines the evidence should come to conclude X." If someone disagrees with you about a public belief, it is prosocial and epistemically virtuous to defend your claim and to debate the matter on a public forum. Public beliefs, if consensus is reached about them, can be added to the sum total of human knowledge, for others to take for granted and then build on. A private belief is proposition that someone thinks is true based on their own private or illegible info and reasoning. In this case, the implicit claim is "given my own read of the evidence, I happen to think X. But I don't think that the arguments that I've offered are necessarily sufficient to convince a third party. I'm not claiming that you should believe this, I'm merely providing you the true information that I believe it." If someone disagrees with you about a private belief, there might or might not be a fruitful discussion to be had about , but it is also important to be able to "agree to disagree." An example I think that Circling meaningfully develops real skills of introspection, subtle interpersonal sensitivity, and clarity of map-territory distinctions. I further think that Circling is relevant to the Art of Rationality. There have been some write-ups that describe why I think this is the case, but I don't know that any of them are persuasive. If a person is curious about why I might be interested in Circling, I think this post is a decent overview. But crucially, I don't think that the evidence presented should be sufficient to convince a skeptic. I would say that I have a private belief that Circling is useful. It is actually my calibrated view, based on my personal experiences and my reasoning about those experiences. But by stating that belief, I am not at all making a social bid that others believe it too. A special case: cloaks There's a special case of having a private belief that, at CFAR, we used to refer to as "having a cloak". If you are pursuing some ambitious project or personal development goals, it can be damaging to tell people about or justify your ambitions. Many ambitious goals are butterfly ideas, that need to be handled gently. Your own sense of what is possible might be fragile, and you need to nurture it. And, for many people, sharing their ambitions puts them in a mindset of asking themselves to justify whether they're cool enough to succeed, or needing to fend off a kind of social pressure from causal pessimism. All of which is wasted motion. So it's useful to have a "cloak": an understanding that your plans and hopes can be private beliefs, that are no one's business but yours. Sometimes that cloak can be keeping what you're working on a secret (as Paul Graham suggests in What You'll Wish You'd Known). Alternatively, it's useful to have a true(!), but incomplete, description about what you're aiming to do, that gives others a bucket for conceptualizing your actions, while you also have private, more ambitious plans. (Paul Graham also recommends this sort of cloak, in his "tactics" section of Frighteningly Ambitious Startup Ideas.) A motivating example is Amazon.com. I bet that back in 1999, Jeff Bezos had at least a glimmer of the the long term future of Amazon. But if Jeff Bezos had outright declared, "Amazon's plan is to build an online bookstore, and eventually conquer almost the whole online retail economy (whi...

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: So you want to be a charity entrepreneur. Read these first., published by Mathieu Putz on January 26, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. If you want to start a charity, you need to be learning constantly. You'll inevitably learn by doing, but it will save you a lot of heartache to also learn from others. If you're interested in potentially starting a charity or are already running one and want to continue improving your org, here's what we at Nonlinear think will be useful to read. We don't recommend reading these in order or start to finish. Skim them ruthlessly, jump around to the ones that seem relevant to you, and try to really engage with the ones that are genuinely useful to you. Blog posts Why founding charities is one of the highest impact things one can do Should I start a charity now or later? Great blog post about the benefits of starting something now vs later. How to increase your odds of starting a career in charity entrepreneurship. This post also touches on how to get a low-risk taste of startup life to see if you'll like it. TL;DR - do self-initiated projects with no oversight, ideally recruiting and leading a team of friends/volunteers to help. What traits make a great charity entrepreneur Which jobs will best prepare you to become a charity entrepreneur? Why top performers shouldn't go to university. There are better ways to signal competence Why EAs in particular are good people to start charities Top 13 Tools for NGO Founders. Want to particularly highlight Upwork where it's really easy to hire freelancers for innumerable small tasks that it's not worth hiring a full time person for. Startup Playbook by Sam Altman. Probably the most information dense piece of advice for potential founders. Just replace every mention of “business” with “charity” and “profit” with “impact” to get the most out of this. This is true for most forprofit startup material Paul Graham essays, notably What You'll Wish You'd Known How to Start a Startup Do Things that Don't Scale Charity Entrepreneurship's resource list. Lots of good stuff listed here. A Brief Overview of Recruitment and Retention Research by Animal Advocacy Careers. Blog post reviewing the evidence for different hiring and retention techniques, ordered by evidence base and effect size. I wish all research was done and presented this way. Charity Science's fundraising research. Fundraising is a keystone skill for charity entrepreneurship. Charity Science systematically researched all the major fundraising methods and compared how well they worked. I'd pair this with reading at least one book on fundraising. Fundraising for Dummies is good, though probably not the best. Takeaways from EAF's Hiring Round by Stefan Torges There Are No Walls. Short post about how to see how many options you truly have. Books How to Start a High-Impact Nonprofit by EA's very own Joey Savoie and Patrick Stadler. If you could only read one book, it'd be this one. Managing to Change the World. The best book on management Kat has ever read, and it just so happens to also focus on the particular issues charities face. Peter Wildeford wrote some good notes on it here. The Lean Startup by Eric Ries. This is a classic for a reason. How to Make a Minimum Loveable Product. Technically a blog post, but should be read after Lean Startup, so put it in this section. Who: The A Method for Hiring by Geoff Smart and Randy Street (summary) Atomic Habits by James Clear. How to be productive as an individual. Scrum: The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time by Jeff Sutherland. How to be productive as a team. 4-Hour Work Week. Tim Ferriss is one of the most instrumentally rational people that Kat has ever encountered. Take his lessons, mix in a little EA epistemology, and cross-apply them to EA. Makebook. Ridiculously practical book about ...

Wish You were Here by Jodi Picoult. The story of two people in their 30s, living in NYC and planning a getaway trip to the Galapagos – where she's sure he's going to propose – when Covid arrives and spoils their plans. He's a doctor and the hospital where he works cancels all leave, but he says she should go instead. The book is told in two parts – the first being that change to their plans and then her time on the island, and the second part back in NYC where the full effects of Covid are being felt. Less of a moral dilemma than is her usual style but certainly a book for our times. Taste: My Life in Food by Stanley Tucci. A memoir about his lifelong love of food – he grew up in an Italian American family where gathering round the dinner table every night was integral to their family life. It talks about the foodie films he's been in – Julie and Julia – and has recipes, some excellent thoughts on cocktails – the martini – and is warm and chatty and very much like the man himself. Jane Mackenzie joined Francesca Rudkin. LISTEN ABOVE

[Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. Taking a page from his first solo episode over four years ago, Danny found inspiration in the form of a song from one of his favorite bands. Said song made him interested in a certain historical topic but Danny wasn't really in the stingy history mood. However, like always, and for some reason he was in the romantic mood, and for once he accepted the help of the Amazon algorithm when it suggested a romantic book in the form of historical fiction. History and romance? Sign Danny up. That said Danny goes about his usual spiel and hammers the novel for some structural and character problems. Historical fiction is a strange literature genre and Danny makes sure to cover why it is as such, and why the author's integration of limited characters hurt the over arching historical event. He also makes sure to cover the event itself in a limited way and the backstory of why he chose the novel in the first place. Come listen in as Danny grades a fusion of history and romance. ~Follow all the Legionaries on Twitter~ Danny: twitter.com/legionsarchive The Tsar: twitter.com/TsarAlexander6 Allen: twitter.com/blkydpease Spangar: twitter.com/LSFspangar ~Credits~ Original Sound Cloud image taken from Martin's website at: https://www.jamescmartin.com/the-boy-who-wanted-wings/ Original Cover Art owned by James Conroyd Martin, and Hussar Quill Press. This episode is the last one in my productivity series for change leaders. Over the last month, I've been sharing the exact strategies and techniques I use to get everything done. My goal for each of these topics is to help you become more intentional with your work and time. In this episode, I will be talking about how to prioritise your day and decipher the tasks that require your immediate attention. I know that it can feel overwhelming and confusing staring at everything on your to-do list, so I wanted to give you a very effective tool in your toolkit to help you build clarity. I'll share with you the method I use to be productive and effective throughout my change programs - ABCDE. I know we're not perfect and you'll have people interrupting you frequently, but I know from experience that whenever I use this method I can get far more work done than when I don't have a plan.I encourage you to implement this tool along with the 5D framework, time blocking, and setting aside time for thinking to become efficient and work with intention. I'm sharing these tools with you, not so you work harder or longer hours, but so you get far more done in less time. Enjoy!LINKSListen to my previous podcasts in this series: Leading org change is about thinking (and how to make time for it) - The New Way | Podcast on SpotifyNot getting shit done? Can we achieve greater success in life by choosing to generalize rather than to specialize? If you want to be the best at something, the story goes something like this: Begin as early as you can. Focus on nothing else. And practice as if your life depends on it. It’s the story we associate with sports heroes and chess grandmasters. But David Epstein, author of the book, Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World, argues that this story is incomplete. It never mentions the fact that activities like chess and golf take place in “kind” learning environments, where learners have perfect information, operate with clear goals, and experience immediate feedback. In contrast, most of us operate in what are called “wicked” environments. There, as David explains, “…not all information is clear. People don’t wait for each other to take turns. . . Goals may be unclear. Feedback may be intermittent, nonexistent . . . it may be inaccurate and it may be delayed.” David also reveals that many top performers were not, in fact, specialists from an early age. They were generalists who took the time to explore multiple paths, and many delayed choosing a focus until they found the right fit: “They pinballed around . . . They didn’t focus on the long term . . . Instead, they said here’s who I am right now, here are the skills I have, here’s what I want to learn, here are the opportunities in front of me right now…” David has worked as an investigative reporter for ProPublica and a senior writer for Sports Illustrated. His first book was the bestseller, The Sports Gene. Liars is a three piece band (originally from New York). They are known for dramatic stylistic shifts between records. Their latest album WIXIW (a made up word, pronounced “Wish You”) came from a long period of isolation. On this record, Liars head in a more electronic direction. While we relax in the band's deluxe tour van, I quiz Angus (vocals/guitar) about everything, including giving critics the middle finger. Listen to our chat. Tracks played in the show... 1) Liars, WIXIW "No. 1 Against the Rush" 2) Liars, WIXIW "Brats" 3) Liars, Sisterworld "Scarecrows on a Killer Slant" 4) Liars, WIXIW "Octagon" NO songs CANCON
