In this moving standalone tribute, Jan Gorski-Mescir (“Fydsy”) honours the life and legacy of Ronnie Moran — player, captain, coach, caretaker manager, and the very heartbeat of Liverpool Football Club for nearly half a century. From his humble beginnings in 1930s Crosby to lifting trophies as both player and coach, the episode traces Moran's journey through Liverpool's most storied decades. With warmth, humour, and deep respect, Jan reflects on Ronnie's fierce standards, his legendary voice across Melwood, and his guiding influence on generations of Liverpool greats — from Dalglish and Keegan to Gerrard and Owen. Known as “Bugsy” and “The Sergeant Major,” Moran left a mark no one else could replicate. This episode closes with an emotional rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone, fittingly honouring a man who truly never did. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Romana recently shared a very thoughtful and introspective Instagram post about a suicide attempt in April last year. I found it to be very profound, so I asked her if she fancied sitting down and having a chat with me.‘Have you ever thought about killing yourself?' might seem like a really shocking and insensitive question to ask out loud, let alone have as the title for an episode of a podcast. It could quite reasonably be interpreted as an unsuitably nonchalant and flippant way to ask something so serious. And to be fair, when considered out of context, it's probably all of the above. I find that lighthearted conversations are a very good way of getting really heavy things out in the open, and it's sometimes the only way to cut through them. These types of conversations on podcasts can very quickly become overkill. Over-done, over-cooked, under achieving, but every now and then, it's a conversation worth having, and worth sharing. Everyone, no matter how successful, rich, loved, famous, has absolutely lost themselves at least once in their lives. Money worries, identity worries, job worries, worries about the future, sadness about the past, panic about your career progression or where your life should or shouldn't be. Families falling apart, friends drifting away. It gets to us all and it's very easy to then think you're the only one, and Jesus does that make it feel a hundred times lonelier. Well, you're not the only one, and when you realise that, it somehow makes it that bit more manageable. We don't have the answers, if we did, we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place. But not every question has a definitive answer, and not every issue has an exact solution. But just talking about them can answer some of it, and solve part of it. And sometimes that's enough. If you can laugh the whole way through, like we did, then that's even better. If you're just here for the patter, then I hope you enjoy it. If you're here because you're looking for a lifeline, then I hope this provides it. Stay tuned to the end for some perfect insight into why we should always hold on for tomorrow. If you enjoy this episode, share it somewhere. You never know who it might reach. Love ye.Contact: seanmcdonald.podcast@gmail.comInstagram: @seantmcdonaldTwitter: @seanmcdonald01 Hosted on Acast. It's January 27th - here's a bonus episode after we woke up yesterday morning to the news that Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of this season. Shock, sadness and maybe a little reflection on this amazing 9 year journey. I'm Paul and I'm joined by Justin and Daz to offer some immediate reflections and maybe some perspective (maybe). Start with our initial reactions: ‘The loss of a man who can make a set of players far greater than the sum of its parts is a huge loss' What he shared with Roger Bennett about how he viewed success - making the world you are in better than it was before. In hindsight he seemed too relaxed at his Thursday press conference, and his acceptance at Bournemouth that VAR would not intervene because it was Tierney. What had tired him out - PGMOL? Game scheduling, the Deloitte money list, playing against nation states? UEFA at the 2022 final? Pre-season tours? German press talked about the job of a premier league manager being harder than that of someone in the Bundesliga. The man himself: ‘He made us all feel that we're not alone, that we're all part of something. That we weren't individuals with individual purpose, but that we're all in “this” together. The “this” I speak of is simply the possibility that dreams can happen in reality. That together we will always be bigger than just one of us. That shared joy is the only joy that matters.' Neil Atkinson talked about his connection to the City of Liverpool - such a grounded person, with a belief system that fits well in the very left leaning Scouse republic. Jamie Webster said he was a better human being than a football manager and that is saying something because I believe he's the best football manager in the world Attributed to Raffa Honigstein - he's ruined it for other German managers as he does everything so well - the managing, coaching, PR, press conferences Our best memories - too many for this brief pod: Boom - all of the last 9 years Barcelona, 2019 UCL win, the post match interview after City lost at Chelsea 96th minute Divock winner against Everton, the Parade in 2019 His appearances in Nivea commercials Looking ahead Generational managers do not just come and go. Does this doom his successor to failure? Absolutely not. Jurgen Klopp has left us in a good position. The squad is rejuvenated with talent everywhere. Examples of Ferguson and Wenger being replaced with managers who were a poor fit for what they needed. Shankly and Dalglish examples. The next 4 months - how should we approach it? Ultimately, ‘we're so glad that Jurgen was a Red'. We plan to have an episode tomorrow, reflecting on the Norwich game and a big part of that will be how the players and crowd reacts to the news. Thanks to Justin and Daz. And thank you dear listener for joining us. If you enjoyed the pod, please share it with a friend. Gikk du glipp av dokumentarserien vår om Kenny Dalglish? Her kan du høre alle episodene i én fil. Musikk:Intro og avslutningsmusikk: The Epic 2 by Rafael KruxLink: https://filmmusic.io/song/5384-the-epic-2-License: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Music promoted on https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/After the Rain by Keys of Moon | https://soundcloud.com/keysofmoonMusic promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/Creative Commons CC BY 4.0https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ The Builder by Kevin MacLeod | https://incompetech.com/Music promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/Creative Commons CC BY 3.0https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Sad Piano by LesFM | https://lesfm.net/Music promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/Creative Commons CC BY 3.0https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Inspiring Dreams by Keys of Moon | https://soundcloud.com/keysofmoonMusic promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/Creative Commons CC BY 4.0https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Hosted on Acast. Time was when there was scarcely an English top flight team without a few influential Scotsmen in it. Can you imagine Liverpool in the 1980s without Hansen, Souness and Dalglish, Manchester United's 1960s team without Denis Law and Paddy Crerand or Revie's Leeds United without Bremner, Jordan, McQueen, Lorimer and Eddie Gray? There are almost no Scottish players in the English Premier League, barely a handful in the Scottish Premier League and the crowds are embarrassingly small outside of Celtic and Rangers. What on earth has gone wrong with football in Scotland? Patrick Barclay helps Colin Shindler and Jon Holmes to come up with some answers. At the end of the episode Colin, Jon and Patrick also briefly remember Sir Bobby Charlton Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

For those already in the industry, it gives a fresh take on some key subject matters and personal stories of challenge and success. This Episode features Martin Cassidy - CEO - Ref support UK Martin Cassidy is the CEO of the charity Ref Support UK, which offers a platform to referees independently of The FA. Martin is also the co-host of a popular podcast, Ref Pod. A former national list match official, Martin retired early due to injury. He took up refereeing after a knee injury stopped him from playing football. He worked for the FA at Wembley in The FA Referees Department for 7 years, coaching referees at all levels. This episode covers: Martin on the new Participant's Charter: "I think The FA have made some of the most, progressive, positive moves over the last 18 months that prior to that, they hadn't made for decades really. They have never been so supportive of referees, so we are really delighted and we welcome it, absolutely we do. Having Howard Webb come in is another wonderful move by The FA. He has already removed Mike Dean as VAR lead and what's really positive is that the PGMOL have got together with the League Managers Association and the Professional Footballers Association to deliver this. It's never been done before and my charity, Ref Support, have been calling for the bodies representing players and managers to stand up with The FA and the PGMOL in criticising how their members act towards referees. It's got to make the environment on matchdays better for everybody. Sometimes, they use the word "passion", to justify referee abuse. I was born and bred around Anfield and the likes of Shankly, Paisley and Dalglish were all passionate, but they didn't treat referees like Klopp has done." Martin on the use of Bodycams by referees: "It shocked me how many referees don't report the abuse they get. Some might not do it because they have reported it in the past, but in their opinion, nothing has happened. There's also the problem at the grassroots level is that most football is played within 20 miles of where referees live, so they maybe don't want to go public for fear of bumping into the people involved. We lobbied for Bodycams six years ago. We wrote to The FA, but the head of refereeing at the FA said they had no appetite for Bodycams. But it was just him, and when he left, the FA said we are going to go ahead with the Bodycam pilot, and I was told last week, it's going to be expanded. It is proving to be a huge success, but we knew it would. The only barrier is the cost. But we have been working on developing an app for your phone and a strap to allow referees to wear it in matches at lower levels and feel more protected." Martin on diversity in refereeing: "I was lucky enough to officiate games with Uriah Rennie, but we haven't had a top flight official in the middle, since 1991 from the BAME community. On the representation side of it, I think they are doing some wonderful work and there's real signs now, that everybody should have the same chance. With the female side of things, we had made great progress in the 1990's. Wendy Toms was running the line in the Premier League. A game in the Conference, as it was called then, had three match officials, all female. So what happened? Why has it taken util now to get female referees in the EFL? The FA had let down the Women's game for decades. But now it's a game changer and its down to those changes The FA have made in their structures. The "blazers" have gone and the people running it now are doing it transparently and look what is happening. I think we are in a better place than ever."

The Pioneer Store was built by Mr. James Dalglish in 1880. He had come to the southwest from eastern Canada to improve his failing health. He built the large, log building of hand-hewn Ponderosa Pine logs harvested from the mountain forests to the west of present day Chloride. By late 1880, the building was completed and The Pioneer Store opened for business. Mr. Dalglish operated it throughout the Silver Boom years of 1880 through 1897, carrying all the goods needed for the miners and their families. The store stocked all manner of household goods, including food for residents and their animals, clothes for the entire family, mining equipment and tools, and ranch equipment and supplies. Wagons, buggies, and other large items could be ordered, as well as such specialty items as brides' trousseaus. A United States Post Office was established in the front part of the store building in 1881, and a newspaper, The Black Range, began publishing weekly from the upstairs rooms in 1882. The large safe in the store building served as a local Bank for the remote mining operators and for the scattered ranches. It also served as a ‘Pawn Shop', as records show “--- $2.00 loaned on watch in the safe." When the Silver Boom ended in 1896, Mr. Dalglish leased the building to others who continued its operation until 1908. At that time, the building and its contents were purchased by the U.S. Treasury Mining Company. That company soon became the property of the James Family, who had arrived in Chloride in 1882. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/loren-alberts/message

The 1982 World Cup finals in Spain promised to be one of the great World Cups. A galaxy of stars had gathered. Platini, Zico, Socrates, Keegan, Dalglish and an emerging Diego Maradona. The Brazil team of 1982 is almost as fabled as their 1970 predecessors and have gone down as the greatest team to have never won the World Cup. As well as the great football on offer, the 1982 World Cup also offered up its fair share of drama. There was the scandalous collusion between West Germany and Austria in the final group game that sent home minnows Algeria. But the starring role in infamy goes to German goalkeeper Harald Schumacher who's shocking challenge on Patrick Battiston left the Frenchman in a coma. The referee and linesman were both unaware or unwilling to take the necessary action. Video replays showed the glaring error of the match officials to a global audience. Once again, viewers at home had a better view of the incident than the officials on the field of play.
In this episode of #TheSpeakerShow, Maria Franzoni interviews Clive Tyldesley Speaking live to an audience of a couple of hundred delegates in a conference hall can be an intimidating prospect. Clive Tyldesley has spoken live to an audience of more than 20 million television viewers on many different occasions. Those occasions have included Champions League and England international football matches that have brought the nation to a halt to watch and to listen… (and in the 21st century to also tweet their instant reactions to what they are seeing and hearing). He is simply one of the most recognisable voices in sports broadcasting… and equally to ‘FIFA' game players too. He has won the Royal Television Society Sports Commentator of the Year award 4 times! He has been working in television since 1987… 24 Champions League finals… 7 World Cups… been there, seen it, called it. His recent semi-autobiographical book provides a fascinating insight into the relationships he has forged with football greats from Clough to Dalglish and Ferguson to Hoddle. Stuart and William reminisce about a classic past instalment of this podcast. They look back to this archive episode to see how their point of view may have altered and evolved since the recording. This time they revisit the debate they had with Chloe Dalglish. Originally released on the March 10th 2020, when they explored the following three tough environmental questions … - Does being part of a community have a positive effect on environmental understanding and how people deal with the climate, and environmental crisis? - Being informed about the world around you is an important step to understanding the impact we are having. However with so much fake news leading to people doubting what they read, how can the information be best presented to avoid being ignored as scare-mongering, or untrue? - How can podcast production be made more environmentally sustainable, and how can podcasters reduce their Carbon footprint? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepeoplescountryside/message
