Send us a textWelcome back dragon fans, to the second part of our coverage of The Lost Firebreather by D.M. Gilmore. A reminder that because we covered a review copy, we released the first half last week in tandem with the official public release of the book, and so put off the spoiler half until you all have had a fair chance to read it, to be fair and respectful to the author.Join us once again as we discuss this heavily ATLA inspired dragon book, talking about our favorite characters and which ones were difficult to get into. Come here Rei's crackpot, conspiracy-board worthy theory on what the elements actually are. Cool down with a glimpse into the thought process and history of the podcast and a small discussion on how emotional dragons are supposed to be. We even have discussions about Rei's high school writing attempts and his dream dragon game. Many topics were had this episode, as both the hosts went on quite a few tangents.Twitter: @OfficialWODPODEmail: wodpodcastmail@gmail.comPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/worldofdragonspodcast Discord - https://discord.gg/Kfjh74aqn2
Send us a textWelcome, Dragon Fans, to another prerelease review! D.M. Gilmore, author of Lazy Scales (a Rei favorite) has given us a review copy of his newest book, first in a series, so we could do another day 1 review! As such, the second half of the episode, the spoiler filled discussion, will be released next week so everyone can have an honest chance to read the book and we don't just immediately spoil everything day 1.The Lost Firebreather is a take on the Avatar The Last Airbender formula, but with dragons! That's great, we need more "but with dragons" stories honestly. The world has several tribes of dragons, all aligned with an element, and a survivor or a genocided tribe must discover who he is, and quite possibly learn how the other cultures interact with their 'elements'. Unfortunately, no juiceboxing in this book. Rei sad. In a single day, Appalachia's peacekeepers and independent forces have fallen. The Five-0 New Responders HQ is in ruins, the radio station is empty, mindlessly looping songs and the Overseer is missing. And yet, for Wastelanders and Raiders alike they are rolling into the region to lay down roots of their own, no matter how unintended the consequences of that action may be. The Enclave have arrived from Raven Rock and are squeezing the Judge to get things back under control, little knowing that in a single stroke he now has the power to reset the board. In 2004, he founded Red Letter Studios (RLS), an award winning creative agency in Tampa, FL which focused on Video Production, Design, Digital media and Printing. In January of 2012, RLS partnered with Thuzi (now LEAP), where Adam became the Chief Experience Officer (CXO).He became a founding member of Thuzi's groundbreaking live event & marketing technology division leading and producing hundreds of iconic projects and events for global brands such as Microsoft, Disney, Oprah, AT&T, Coca-Cola, Outback, Ford, Honda, Under Armour, Feld Entertainment, UFC and top agencies alike. He has had a life-long passion for film, and has directed and / or produced over 50 TV commercials, winning dozens of national advertising awards. He's also created countless brand films, short films & corporate marketing and non-profit videos. As a passion project, he co-directed and produced an international documentary titled "The Magic History Of Cinema", which premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. In 2017, Adam accepted the Executive Vice President position at RNR Tire Express, the franchisor of nearly 200+ retail locations in 29 states. In 2021, he was promoted to President of RNR. In our conversation we talk about his early entrepreneurial ventures as a magician and fire breather. Adam explains how he was drawn towards graphic design and film making and shares how following his interests eventually led him to the bleeding edge of marketing technology and live events. As exhilarating as that environment was, he recognised that his life was out of balance and he needed to recalibrate his priorities. When his father Larry Sutton who was my guest for episode 164 asked him to join the family business he admits to having some initial reservations even though it was an opportunity he'd always dreamed of.I enjoyed hearing about Adam's somewhat unconventional early years and how seeing perfectionism as procrastination enables him to keep iterating and moving forward. I am pleased to share his story in this episode and I look forward to hearing what resonates with you.If you're listening for the first time, hello, I'm Andy Follows. This week we are discussing what the interweb calls the New Wave Of Classic Rock! There have been bands doing the retro-rock thing for years, but this phenomenon seems to be gaining momentum lately and we decided to focus on new-ish bands that have released albums in the last year or so. Indeed, rock n' roll is not dead and is in the very capable hands of these killer new classics! What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. The younger generation is picking up guitars and playing that classic blues-inspired hard rock again! This retro rock thing is not quite as new as the interweb is making it out to be, but who cares? It's a breath of freshly regurgitated air!Our hope is that we turn you on to something new.Songs this week include:Rival Sons - “Guillotine” from DARKFIGHTER (2023)Classless Act - “This Is For You (w/ Justin Hawkins)” from Welcome To The Show (2022)Thunderpussy - “Firebreather” from Firebreather - single (2023)The Cold Stares - “Nothing But The Blues” from Voices (2023)Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown - “Burnin'” from Dirty Work EP (2023)Donna Cannone - “Pushed” from Donna Cannone (2022)Jared James Nichols - “Skin ‘n Bone” from Jared James Nichols (2023)Crown Lands - “Dreamer Of The Dawn” from Fearless (2023)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

It's good to be back. Did you miss us? Brian's feeling all better and it was great to get back in the studio. We're joined this week but the crazy crew from Bircus Brewing in Ludlow, KY. FYI, it's pronounced "beer-cus." Brand Acrobat Jilliam Francois, Sales Manager (fancy title pending) Matt Cremeans, and Brewmaster JD fill us in on the origins and future of their brewery. Bircus is what you get when a Ringling Bros. clown opens a theater/circus and realizes all the money is made on concessions. That's the short story of why Paul Miller opened his brewery. If you visit the taproom for a brew, like maybe a Juggaloats IPA, you may see jugglers, stilt walkers, fire breathers, some good old fashioned wrestling... and brick oven pizzas. It's always 3 rings of fun at Bircus. 3rd of July at The Nest If you're in the Atlanta area come on out and join us for the 3rd of July celebration at The Nest Kennesaw. The "Hard Headed Woman"To be compared to icons of the music industry such as Tina Turner and Etta James is no mean feat when you have just dropped your debut album. Chicago native Skylar Rogers achieves that and so much more with her 2021 release ‘Firebreather', and as 2022 rolls around, there is no doubt that her infectious blend of soul-rocking blues is about to amaze audiences around the globe.Finding your place on the Blues scene requires a rich vein of history to draw on, and like many of her heroes, she has lived through pain and suffering to become the artist she is today. Raised in the church and told she couldn't sing because she wasn't the right fit, Skylar's life took many unexpected twists and turns before she settled once again into the world that brought her so much joy.Raised by a mother who also sang, her journey through divorce, a life in the military, the death of a child, truck driving and homelessness, all taught her lessons that can never be forgotten. After a near fatal bout of pneumonia and being diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases, she decided to live life on her own terms. She was determined not to be bound by others' expectations and this rebellious spirit is evident in all the music she makes. Moving to Memphis and immersing herself in the rich tapestry of Beale Street, Skylar drank from the intoxicating waters around her and began her long march to musical salvation. With a voice that grips the soul and fills you with the energy and passion that only rocking blues can provide, one of the highlights of her career so far has been sharing a stage with Kevin Burt, Anne Harris, Ben Rice, Paul DesLauriers, Annika Chambers-DesLariers, and Terrie Odabi at the All StarShowcase at the Big Blues Bender in Las Vegas. To work alongside such timeless artists is all the testament you need to evaluate the skills she has in her pocket.Nominated for a Blues Blast Award and being considered by the Grammy committee for her song ‘Like Father, Like Daughter', and for her album in the Contemporary Blues category, she has arrived on the grandest of stages. Writing from her own perspective and experiences, there is no doubt that she will be a regular feature on the red carpet as she breaks new ground with every step she makes. With the hiatus of the pandemic firmly in the rear-view mirror, Skylar Rogers and her band of extraordinary musicians are ready to take to the road again and explode onto the festival circuit. Now is the moment for her extraordinary talents to shine. Discover her work in all its glory and find a world that has all the sassiness of a woman determined to make the most of every opportunity. This is her moment and the sky's the limit."Skylar Rogers has a lot of energy and pizzazz. She brings a raw honesty to every performance. The blues world betta look out!" - Annika Chambers, 2019 Blues Music Award winnerwww.skylarrogers.com

Skylar Rogers was born and raised in some of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods. She learned at an early age that music brought people together and grew up listening to music her mother (a singer herself) was listening or singing to. This upbringing laid the groundwork, giving Skylar the drive and passion to explore a career in music. Skylar's "Soul Rockin' Blues" sound has been influenced by Tina Turner, Etta James, Billy Joel, and Koko Taylor. Throw in a bit of AC/DC and multiple Motown artists and you have the unique, strong, passionate and energetic Skylar Rogers. Music and faith were primary sources of strength and inspiration for Skylar through not only the bad times (abusive relationships, the stillbirth of her child, and a brief period of homelessness following a divorce), but also the best of times (meeting, dating and marrying her second husband, and sharing precious time with her family and friends.) "I have learned that during these times, there was a song for every emotion. Music survives the worst, and celebrates the best."Skylar successfully launched her debut EP, "Insecurities” and began touring nationally in 2019, including performances at St Louis' National Blues Museum and Beale Street in Memphis. She was personally invited by Kevin Burt to perform in the All Star Blues Jam at Las Vegas' Big Blues Bender in 2019. At the same venue, blues artist Erica Brown (Cast Iron Queens) was floored by Skylar's rendition of Koko Taylor's 'I'm A Woman,' telling her, "You're one of the few people I've heard to do that song justice!" She has also shared a stage with Ms. Zeno "The Mojo Queen," Tab Benoit, Terrie Odabi, and Ben Rice. Quoting Annika Chambers, 2019 Blues Music Award winner, Vizztone recording artist, "Skylar Rogers has a lot of energy and pizzazz, and brings a raw honesty to every performance. The blues world betta look out!"Skylar's first single, “Like Father Like Daughter” was released internationally by Blind Racoon in September 2020, attaining worldwide airplay, charting on the Roots Music Top 50 Contemporary Blues Songs, and continually charting on the Illinois Roots Music Report. Her full length CD, “Firebreather,” released internationally to high acclaim in January, 2021 reaching #2 on the Roots Music Report for Contemporary Blues Album and seeing airplay of all songs throughout the US, Europe and online.

Episode 034 - Improv, Gemini, & Translocation This week, the episode kinda rambles on and we treat it like a Seinfeld episode. (What the heck are we gonna talk about?) Macklemore released a new album, Gemini and we talk about our favorite tracks and feature not one but TWO. Today's guest, Greg Amundson, is a fitness expert, masterful storyteller and warrior with an extremely diverse set of experiences: college athlete, sheriff's deputy, DEA agent, Army officer, author, and CrossFit affiliate. His focus is currently on speaking, writing, CrossFit and promoting Warrior Yoga. “Mentors come in all different shapes and forms, so there's an opportunity for God to bring people into our life on a regular basis. These seemingly fleeting and temporary relationships all serve a purpose in our growth, in our evolution, in our awareness, in our self-discovery.” One of the most influential relationships Greg has is with Mark Divine, Founder and CEO of http://sealfit.com (SEALFIT) and Founder of Warrior Yoga. One of the key gifts that Mark gave Greg was awareness of breath. Mindful breathing is the basis of most forms of meditation, and the story of how Greg found his awareness of breath is quite exciting. It involves hanging from a cargo net in a steel compound, and even more about their powerful mentor-mentee relationship is explored in the upcoming book Firebreather Fitness. Firebreather Fitness is a profound book in that it is the first to fully integrate holistic fitness, which is simultaneously developing the mind, the body and the spirit. In the early days of CrossFit, Firebreather became a term of endearment based around physical accomplishment. Then Greg realized that there was more to a physical fitness program than physicality. “There's way more to a physical fitness program than physicality. There's an opportunity to develop character, emotional resilience, discipline and spiritual awareness, and now we define a Firebreather as one who faces the trials and tribulations of great physical opposition with an indomitable spirit.” A huge part of Greg and Mark's lives are their morning rituals, and they are both passionate about instilling in people the warrior quality of the morning ritual. Every morning, Greg: Wakes up at four and becomes aware of the transition between the waking state and the sleeping state Remains silent Goes into the kitchen to pour a glass of water Introduces the feeling of gratitude as he drinks the water of immense gratitude Goes into the living room and goes through a series of breathing exercises that are designed to still the mind Meditates to achieve a transcendent state and Transitions to the warrior tradition of First Words, which is the practice of bringing awareness to the first offering of our spoken word The First Word process creates a rippling effect from the beginning of our day throughout the rest of the day. Through breathing exercises and meditation you create a still body of water in your mind, and “the spoken word is like a pebble that you drop into stillness to create an even rippling effect touching the shore of our life on every corner.” “Words are real.” Greg is the last guest in our Small Town series, and he proves that you don't need to be from a big town to have a big impact. God in Me is available now; Firebreather Fitness releases January 5th, 2017; and you can connect with Greg at www.GregoryAmundson.com.
