Sin is a universal disease for mankind, and we are in an ongoing process of coming short of the glory of God. Though it may not be as clear in the King James English, the text of Psalm 22 in the Hebrew clearly depicts the suffering of Christ. Although the psalm was written by David, the details cannot possibly refer to his own suffering: it is a prophetic picture of Christ written a thousand years before it became history.
