    Tina Chery  is the founder, President, and CEO of the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute. She has over two decades of experience as a survivor,  serving families impacted by murder. Chery founded the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute in 1994 after the murder of her fifteen year old son Louis. Chery has served families of murder victims for over two decades and has trained thousands of public health professionals, law enforcement officials, and religious leaders in the best practices for supporting survivors and interrupting cycles of retaliatory violence. We talked about the work of the institute, and how they’ve had to change this year’s annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace.

Tayarisha is a writer, photographer, and director who was chosen as one of the 25 New Faces by Filmmaker Magazine. She also received the Sundance Institute's Knight Foundation Fellowship. Her current movie, Selah and the Spades is now out on Amazon Prime Video.  Heather Minty is Director of Philanthropy and Engagement at Respond, Inc., an organization working to end domestic violence. With people being asked to stay at home, reports have shown a rise in domestic violence worldwide. She recently reunited with her birth family and is now showing her photography exhibit Matriarchal Strength: stories of family separation and Indigenous survival at Bridgewater State University. The exhibit pairs photos with written and shared stories told to her by her 94-year-old birth grandmother.
