Nathaniel and Steve discuss the presidential administration's recent mass cuts to USAID programs and what the effects may be. South Dakota Player with Heart: Emma Moller

Brownfield Ag News

Emma Moller was nominated as a Beck's Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the court and field. What she loves most about high school sports is that even when she thinks she can't go further, she gets up and plays. She plays for herself, her team, and the younger kids looking up to her. Her participation in high school sports has taught her resilience, leadership, and the value of hard work. She will forever be grateful for all the important lessons sports have taught her. Emma competes in basketball, softball, and volleyball and serves as the captain of her volleyball and softball teams. She is also involved in FCCLA as a member VP of the chapter, is a football statistician, part of the National Honors Society, and is on the Alcester Hudson Honor Roll. When she isn't in school or playing sports, Emma is spending her time volunteering. She created the Royal Ball, which is an annual event that creates a magical night for boys and girls of all ages. All proceeds go to Santa and Mrs. C's Kids, a non-profit to help families within a 30-mile radius of Alcester during the holidays. She also created Christmas in July, where young girls earn Christmas-themed titles and spend the year volunteering for the same cause. In addition to volunteering for Santa and Mrs. C's Kids, each titleholder will be required to complete no less than ten additional volunteer hours with any nonprofit they choose. These projects not only support families in need but also inspire children to embrace service, proving that leadership can be both fun and transformative. You can also find her volunteering at the South Dakota Safety House, Ag Appreciation Day Sioux Empire Fair, painting cancer ribbons on driveways for donation for the Kobee Sherman Cancer Drive, assisting Miss South Dakota Jr. Teen, and being a Washington DC Youth Tour recipient. Beyond her career goals, her roots in her community run deep. Agriculture to Emma means heritage, hard work, and the foundation of life itself. Her future goal is to manage her family's farm while bringing medical advancements to the people who need them most. As Emma grew up in a small town in South Dakota, she has always known that hard work is a way of life for many. In communities like hers, people don't just wear one hat, they wear ten. The mayor isn't just the mayor; he's also the local bus driver, a farmer, a volunteer board member, a t-ball coach, a Sunday school teacher, an EMT, and a firefighter. Everyone pitches in, and no one has time to be laid up for long periods. That's why she is passionate about pursuing a career in radiology, especially in non-invasive cancer screening and image-guided surgery. Advancements like these in the medical world can make a real difference in rural communities like hers, where access to healthcare can often be limited, and taking time off work for medical care is not always an option. ‘Taylor Swift bill' goes into effect, making hidden ticket fees transparent

Minnesota Now

You have probably had this experience when buying a ticket for a concert or sporting event. As you're clicking through the online ticketing process, the price you originally saw for your ticket nearly doubles by the time you are ready to give the vendor your credit card information. It's a common problem across many ticketing platforms, and it's causing people to spend much more than they intended. That's changed now that a new state law has gone into effect. It's known as the Taylor Swift bill. And it requires sellers to list the full price, including fees, on their website before buyers get to checkout. The bill's author, State Rep. Kelly Moller, said the inspiration for the bill came from her experience trying to secure tickets to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Minneapolis two years ago. She wasn't alone in her frustrations — thousands of fans couldn't get tickets and some paid upwards of 70 times face value to secure tickets. It prompted lawmakers across the country to introduce bills similar to Moller's, which was fittingly identified as House File 1989 during session, a number many fans know as both the year Swift was born and the name of her fifth studio album.Todd Duesing, Hennepin Arts CEO and president, joined MPR News host Nina Moini to talk about the implications this law will have for fans and local venues in Minnesota. Duesing testified in support of the bill at the Legislature last session.

The new anti-money laundering reforms are part of a “perfect regulatory storm” that professionals like lawyers have to grapple with. With new reporting obligations drawing closer, firm leaders will have to ensure their practice management and compliance operations are up to speed. In this episode of The Lawyers Weekly Show, host Jerome Doraisamy speaks with Norton Rose Fulbright senior adviser Jeremy Moller about the new anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) reforms and why they've been introduced, what the reforms aim to achieve, the responses from lawyers and member bodies and why such professionals are concerned with the reforms. Moller also delves into the challenges that legal professionals will face in light of the reforms, why the regulatory space is shifting so much and how this impacts lawyers, where lawyers can seek assistance in such times, and the opportunities that abound from setting one's firm apart from competitors. Welcome to another juicy gem on Fire and Soul. This conversation with my dear guest Ann Moller is one I've been wanting to have ever since her mother, Dr. Christiane Northrup, appeared on the pod last November in an episode called Uncensored Truth.Ann is a beautiful, bright light I felt magnetized to right away and knew she had a story to share about her personal journey in being the daughter of a woman in the fiery limelight for speaking her truth, how that impacted Ann, and what ultimately it taught her when she chose to share her own truth.Ann is fully embodied in own truth, gifts and pure beauty. I know you're going to relate to her story of 'waking up', and because I imagine you will find yourself in many aspects of Ann's stories, I'm beyond excited to share this with you. My mission is to continue to bring on these bringers of light, to share their stories in a meaningful, honest, open way where we can find ourselves in one another so that we can walk this path of sovereignty together. We dive into Ann's story about how her intuitive gifts came on line and the moment that happened, and then what it took for her to really bring that into her mission and part of her service.Of course, this conversation wouldn't be complete without a discussion on the opportunities awaiting us by investing in gold, silver, and precious metals in a low-cost barrier to entry. As always, I'm sharing this with you because my dharma is to help empower you to get free and sovereign in as many ways as possible. So without further adieu, a little bit more about today's guest. Ann Moller she is an intuitive coach, actor, singer and entrepreneur through her cinematic transformation process, she helps women find greater clarity, confidence, and authentic expression so that they can more fully aligned with who they are and meant to be, and step into being the star of the movie of their own lives. As a classically trained soprano, holds a B.A. in English from Yale University, and she's trained with many luminaries in the theater. Her path as an actor has been a healing journey as well as a professional one, and she carries that medicine into the ways she works with her clients. You're going to LOVE this conversation, soul fam. Violet Moller has written a narrative history of the transmission of books from the ancient world to the modern. In The Map of Knowledge: A Thousand-Year History of How Classical Ideas Were Lost and Found (Doubleday, 2019), Moller traces the histories of migration of three ancient authors, Euclid, Ptolemy and Galen, from ancient Alexandria in 500 to Syria and Constantinople, to Baghdad in 800, and then to Renaissance Venice in the 15th century. Moller demonstrates how tenuous were the chances of such ancient works' survival, from the depredations of invading armies to the hazards of fire and flooding, to the problems of translation through multiple languages over the centuries. The migration of ancient texts from Greece to the Middle East and back to medieval Europe is a fascinating story of how knowledge was preserved when certain conditions were met, such as political stability, the willingness of itinerant scholarly “manuscript hunters” to risk life and limb to find obscure, ancient texts, and the openness to tolerate and embrace knowledge derived from other cultures and civilizations. Moller's book is the story of how the texts upon which the modern world was built were acquired through fortuitous accident and scholarly diligence. Ian J. Drake is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Law at Montclair State University. His scholarly interests include American legal and constitutional history and political theory. NATO recently had its 75th birthday. And many say its trajectory traces the adage, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” That is, at least in some ways, NATO has returned to its original mission of collective self-defense. This means the alliance is concentrating less on out-of-area operations that have occupied much of its focus since the end of the Cold War. The transition comes at a time when many are questioning the U.S.'s long-term commitment to its NATO allies, especially in light of former President Trump's recent comments about burden sharing within the alliance. Lawfare Research Fellow Matt Gluck discussed NATO's current and likely future posture with Sara Moller, Associate Teaching Professor in the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University. They spoke about NATO's role in the war in Ukraine, the alliance's focus in the Indo-Pacific, and how NATO is balancing arms control with maintaining strong nuclear deterrence. To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare. It's another EmMajority Report Thursday! Emma speaks with Ussama Makdisi, professor of history at the University of California, Berkeley, to discuss the subject matter of his book Age of Coexistence: The Ecumenical Frame and the Making of the Modern Arab World. Then, she speaks with Rune Moller Stahl, assistant professor in political economy at Copenhagen Business School, to discuss his recent piece in Jacobin entitled "Tesla Has Bitten Off More Than It Can Chew by Picking a Fight With Swedish Unions." First, Emma runs through updates on Israel's ongoing ethnic cleansing of Gaza, the UAW's expansion, the GOP primary, GOP policy, and GOP politics, before touching on some of the opening statements at the International Court of Justice. Ussama Makdisi then joins, diving right into the deep historical context of the case against Israel at the ICJ, looking first at the roots of Zionism in the 1800s as a response to intense antisemitism in Europe, and as a project that took inspiration from Europe in its nationalist, colonialist solution. Expanding on this, Professor Makdisi explores the prevalence of multi-religious coexistence across the Middle East in that era, particularly between Arabs and Jews, how that extended to Palestine, and the culture of denialism around both pre-Nakba Palestinian culture, and the Nakba itself, before touching on the roots of said issues in the west's Islamophobia, and antisemitism. After briefly touching on the inspiration Israel takes from the white supremacist regimes of South Africa and Jim Crow USA, Ussama and Emma discuss the establishment of Israel within the context of Europe's greater colonial project in the Middle East, before wrapping up the interview by touching on South Africa's case at the ICJ.  Rune Moller Stahl then walks Emma through the evolving multi-industry and multi-national strike against Tesla in the Nordic countries, beginning with Tesla technicians walking off their jobs in demand of a collective agreement, before sympathy strikes swiftly spread across unions throughout Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland. After expanding on the cultural divide between Elon Musk's anti-union attitude and the Nordic model, Professor Stahl parses through the distinct roles of unions in the United States and Sweden, and how they differ in power, organizing, and action. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton as they tackle John Fetterman's turn as he speaks against South Africa's case against Israel at the ICJ, Nick from Pittsburgh dives into political organizing in PA, Corey from Indianapolis discusses ZuckNuts, and Donald Trump gives a genuine answer on the GOP's fanatical pro-life segments. PBD and Co. discuss yoga pants, Gage from Salt Lake City on the lingering presence of 1/6, and Armando in Portland tackles the DEI-Airline conspiracy. Chris Christie gets props from Trump, and it's not for dropping out, plus, your calls and IMs!
