Jaime grew up in small-town Massachusetts. Having grown up a nominal Roman Catholic, Jaime had little interest in God beyond maintaining a veneer of morality, which he often cast off at his own convenience. By God’s grace, while in college, Jaime was born again while hearing a sermon on Luke 15. Upon graduation, Jaime served as a police officer, but after three years, though he loved the work, he resigned and moved to Louisville, Kentucky to pursue a Master of Divinity. During his studies, he met Dr. Mark Dever, Senior Pastor at Capitol Hill Baptist Church, and moved to Washington, DC to be an intern and serve as Mark’s personal assistant for the next two years. After this time, he moved to Providence, RI and served as Associate Pastor at Grace Harbor Church for the next year and a half. Jaime was called to be Senior Pastor of Tremont Temple in April of 2017. He is married to Adriana and is daddy to Mercy, Audrey, Jack, and Noah. Jaime holds a B.S. from Bridgewater State University in Criminal Justice, an M.Div from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Th.M with a focus on preaching from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Jaime also serves as an adjunct professor in the Biblical and Religious Studies program at Sattler College in Boston. Jaime’s interests include history and literature, woodworking, a bit of surfing, daily hand grinding his pour over coffee with the help of Jack and Noah, running and barbell training, and short family adventures.

Doug Breault is a Boston-based interdisciplinary artist who works with photography, painting, sculpture, and video. In addition to his art practice, he curates exhibitions at Gallery 263, teaches art students at Babson College and Bridgewater State University, and contributes articles to Boston Art Review, Lenscratch, the Harvard Art Museum, and the Bridgewater Review. Doug talks about his evolution from creative writing to photography - which then began to intersect with other forms of art, how an interdisciplinary approach to art making allows the idea to come before the material, and the themes of loss and memory that run through his work. In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Nick Cidado to discuss the concept of sweating more during times of peace to "bleed less in war" in line with Nick's book.Nick Cidado acts as the head strength coach for women's lacrosse, men's soccer, field hockey, men's and women's swim and dive, men's and women's golf and men's track at Boston. Cidado is a NSCA certified coach who has trained two Tewaaraton Award winners and one finalist, he is also the author of a book Sweat More During Peace, Bleed Less During War.  Before this role, Cidado was a graduate assistant at Harvard University strength and conditioning primarily in charge of men's and women's lacrosse programs and assisting with all 42 varsity sports teams.  Prior to Harvard, Cidado was a graduate assistant in 2019 and an intern in 2018 at Boston College strength and conditioning. He was in charge of program implementation and supervision of nine sports and assisted with all others. He also has a background working at MJP Strength and Conditioning where he is the head coach for the Boston Jr Eagles hockey club, and Velocity Sports Performance where he works with Newton North High School football.  A four year student athlete, Cidado graduated from Bridgewater State University in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. Justin Lima is a strength coach, high-performance consultant, as well as the president and CEO of Strength Coach Network. Lima has been at the helm of SCN since 2023, initially starting as a partner with the company from 2020-2022 and followed by serving as the general manager from 2022-2023. In addition, he is serves in dual coaching roles as the head strength and conditioning coach at Goldfinch Athletics as well as volunteer strength coach at Ankeny Centennial high school both since 2024. Prior to his current roles, Lima spent his career in the college setting. First starting as an assistant football coach at his alma mater, Bridgewater State University from 2009-2010 he secured his first strength and conditioning coach position in 2011 as an intern with the University of Rhode Island. From there he was a strength and conditioning fellow at Harvard University from 2011-2012, followed by intern strength coach at the University of Iowa in 2012 before earning a full-time assistant position on the University of Maryland staff where he spent the 2012-2013 seasons. Lima returned to the University of Iowa for a second stint in 2013, this time as an assistant on the football strength staff before taking over as the director of football performance at Towson University from 2018-2023.Lima earned his Ph.D in Health and Human Performance from Concordia University Chicago in 2020 and is heavily involved in the coaching community where he serves on multiple Executive Council Boards for the National Strength and Conditioning Association, including the Iowa State advisory board, football special interest group and NSCA college S&C professional development special interest group. Dr. Lima is also the host of the Cheeky Mid Weeky podcast on SCN. A former four-year offensive lineman at Bridgewater State University, Lima has shifted gears from his college player days but has still found way to stay active himself both in and outside the weight room. The term was coined by cryptozoologist Loren Coleman in the 1970s. Within this "triangle," defined by the towns of Abington, Freetown, and Rehoboth, a wide array of strange occurrences have been reported, including: UFOs and anomalous lights: Sightings of unidentified flying objects, often described as balls of light or unusual aircraft. Cryptid sightings: Reports of creatures not typically found in the region, such as Bigfoot-like humanoids, giant snakes, and "Thunderbirds" (large, bird-like creatures). Ghosts and poltergeists: Accounts of hauntings, apparitions, and other spectral phenomena in various locations, including Bridgewater State University and the Taunton State Hospital. Cult activity and animal mutilations: Incidents of animal sacrifices and ritualistic mutilations have been reported, particularly in the Freetown-Fall River State Forest, which is also associated with a history of gangland murders and suicides. Native American legends: Many of the reported phenomena are tied to the region's Native American history, particularly the Wampanoag people. The Hockomock Swamp, a central feature of the triangle, translates to "place where spirits dwell" in Algonquin and is believed to be a sacred burial ground. Some legends suggest that the area is cursed due to conflicts with colonial settlers or the loss of a revered Wampanoag wampum belt. Another creature from Algonquian folklore, the Pukwudgie, a mischievous "little people", is also said to inhabit the area. Key hotspots within the Bridgewater Triangle include the vast Hockomock Swamp and the Freetown-Fall River State Forest. While many of the stories are folklore, the sheer volume and diversity of alleged paranormal events have made the Bridgewater Triangle a well-known location for paranormal enthusiasts and researchers.

Perhaps now more than ever, there's renewed appreciation for the intricacies of our food systems' deep dependence on a global supply chain. However, that also raises challenges around our relationships with producers and understanding of food value. My guest today, Colin Fontaine, is here to discuss how to reorient American concepts of food and culture to be grounded in seasonal and local approaches.    Colin examines food production solutions to achieve more local and seasonal foods, arguing that this issue is more of a cultural problem in need of cultural solutions. Colin has worked in produce procurement, including wholesale distribution, and as an East Coast local produce category manager for Sprouts Farmers Market.  Colin is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has an undergraduate degree in anthropology from Bridgewater State University. A while back, I heard someone refer to school administrators and other public sector leaders as “middle managers”, and it really hit home for me. As I've transitioned through different roles in my career, I've gotten into the trap of thinking that when I achieve the “next step”, I'll finally have the influence I want. In my experience, telling myself that I'll be satisfied with the level of impact I can make when I reach the “next step” is a recipe for disappointment.In reality, I don't think I'll ever be able to fix all the things I want to fix, and I'm slowly coming to terms with that; learning to pick which battles are worth fighting.As I've talked with others who have transitioned to different administrative roles, this seems to be a common challenge faced by people in middle management positions. That's why I invited Dr. Chris Jones and Chris Dodge to episode 173 of De Facto Leaders to talk about what it's like to be a middle manager in public sector systems like the schools. Chris Dodge has been a lead learner in elementary school settings for ten years and currently the principal at the Thorndyke Road School is Worcester, MA, Chris works to create collaborative structures and systems that bring stakeholder voice into school level decision making, as well as strategies that promote student success and achievement. Ryan Leavitt, 25, sarcoma: Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor (DSRCT), Rockland, with Vinayak Venkataraman, MD, Dana-Farber Following a typical, fun night out with friends Ryan woke up the next morning with severe stomach pains. He went to urgent care the same morning where scans revealed several masses in his stomach. Additional biopsies confirmed that Ryan had Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor or DSRCT, a type of sarcoma that forms in the body's connective tissue.·       This past November, Ryan started his treatment regime of 2-day and 5-day increments on a biweekly basis. Since then, he's completed 8 of 14 planned rounds of chemotherapy and 2 surgeries. Once he finishes chemotherapy, he'll have an additional 28 days of radiation.·       Ryan graduated with his bachelor's degree from Bridgewater State University in 2021 and now works as an Account Executive for the public relations firm, Spectrum Science. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, and hanging out with his friends and family.

Nick Cidado is an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Boston College. Cidado arrived at BC in 2018 where he began working as an intern before being promoted to graduate assistant coach in 2019 and then full-time assistant coach in 2020. Over his tenure at BC he's assisted with all 31 Olympic sports teams and now leads the performance training for the Eagles women's lacrosse, field hockey and men's and women's golf teams. In his current role, Cidado has reached the NCAA National Championship in 3 consecutive years with the lacrosse program, who won the title in 2021, and most recently won the ACC Championship in 2023. Cidado started his career in the private sector first as an intern coach at Evolution Sports Performance in Easton, Massachusetts in 2017. He was an assistant strength coach at MJP Strength and Conditioning in Boston as well as sports performance coach at Velocity Sports Performance in Norwood, Massachusetts from 2018-2019. A solar eclipse is coming to North America on April 8, 2024. The moon will line up perfectly between the Earth and the sun, blocking out the sun's light and casting a shadow that will pass over parts of Mexico, the United States and Canada. People in the path of totality will experience a few minutes of darkness during the day as the moon perfectly covers the sun. Those not in the path of totality in those countries will still experience a partial solar eclipse. In Properties of Empire: Indians, Colonists, and Land Speculators on the New England Frontier (NYU Press, 2019), Ian Saxine, Visiting Assistant Professor of History at Bridgewater State University, shows the dynamic relationship between Native and English systems of property on the turbulent edge of Britain's empire, and how so many colonists came to believe their prosperity depended on acknowledging Indigenous land rights. As absentee land speculators and hardscrabble colonists squabbled over conflicting visions for the frontier, Wabanaki Indians' unity allowed them to forcefully project their own interpretations of often poorly remembered old land deeds and treaties. The result was the creation of a system of property in Maine that defied English law, and preserved Native power and territory. Eventually, ordinary colonists, dissident speculators, and grasping officials succeeded in undermining and finally destroying this arrangement, a process that took place in councils and courtrooms, in taverns and treaties, and on battlefields. Properties of Empire challenges assumptions about the relationship between Indigenous and imperial property creation in early America, as well as the fixed nature of Indian “sales” of land, revealing the existence of a prolonged struggle to re-interpret seventeenth-century land transactions and treaties well into the eighteenth century. The ongoing struggle to construct a commonly agreed-upon culture of landownership shaped diplomacy, imperial administration, and matters of colonial law in powerful ways, and its legacy remains with us today. This week's guest is Barney Abramson.  Barney Abramson's creative journey began in the Dominican Republic staying indoors and drawing his favorite 80s cartoons all day long. That creative passion grew into a fruitful career and he went on to become an award-winning designer. In addition to his day job, Barney consults as a creative director, strategist, and manager. He helps businesses and individuals with their creative problems. When he's not designing, he's writing about his experiences as an Afro-Latino creative in corporate America. He uses social media to connect, mentor, teach, and inspire the next generation of designers. This week, Barney discusses his life after immigrating to the US as a child, attempting to assimilate into mostly white neighborhoods, and how that affected his confidence as a young professional. Barney admits that he would take on a Funny Guy persona to seem more palatable to his white coworkers. However, even though he was accepted as the funny guy, he still felt a distance between himself and his peers.
