This week on Whiskey Business, Dino and the boys had the pleasure of talking to McCauley Williams, President and CEO of B.R. Distillers in Memphis, TN. McCauley saw an opportunity to take the reins of one of the oldest distilleries in Memphis and started to making two notable whiskies: Blue Note Juke Joint Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Riverset Rye. Both brands have a combination of expressions that include small batches and single barrels. Now you have one more reason to go to Memphis(aside from the food, and music history) because the whiskey they’re making is singing a fine tune as well. Dino and the boys had the pleasure of welcoming Pat Byrne of Byrne’s Pub to Whiskey Business to discuss a much anticipated St. Patrick’s Day a year after bars and restaurants were shut down, AND...his own Irish Whiskey BUA. BUA made its debut last February in 2020, but when the world shutdown so did the opportunity to share this fine whiskey in bars and restaurants. A year later BUA is making a name for itself and deservedly so. Whiskey Business welcomes back an old friend, Psychologist Dr. David Lowenstein to help us understand how to better cope in a world riddled by pandemic and political upheaval. Mental health cases, depression and feelings of apathy are on the rise and the good doctor tries to steer us back in the right direction. The problems of the world aren't solved in this podcast, but we gain some insight, some perspective and squeeze in a few laughs. A pretty good bottle of bourbon from Tennessee with some interesting flavor notes that would definitely appeal to the seasoned bourbon drinker. Whiskey Business kicks of 2021 with some remnants of 2020 as Billy Demora returns to address some of his rather accurate predictions that came to fruition the last time he joined us and also speculates on the weeks and months to come in respects to sports, politics and life as we live it in these still uncertain days. We also opened our 151st bottle on the show: Heaven Hill 7 year Bottled in Bond. That wasn’t predicted so much as planned. A great bottle if you venture out of Ohio and find one. We have high hopes and expectations for 2021 and we sincerely look forward to getting back to something that smacks of normalcy with all of you along for the ride. The Red Tent Revival is the charitable brainchild of Za Unit and Julia O’Keefe who are also the musical duo Tickles and Pokes. The Superintendent of Liquor Control for The State of Ohio, James Canepa returned to Whiskey Business with new insights, scoops and even some “Mean Tweets” from disgruntled purchasers of alcohol in Ohio. The “scoop” is a new member in the Jim Beam world of bourbons that’s finally making its way to Ohio. It’s reasonably priced and will be a big hit on the shelves. Tune in to find out what’s coming!
