This week on Whiskey Business, Dino and the boys had the pleasure of talking to McCauley Williams, President and CEO of B.R. Distillers in Memphis, TN. McCauley saw an opportunity to take the reins of one of the oldest distilleries in Memphis and started to making two notable whiskies: Blue Note Juke Joint Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Riverset Rye. Both brands have a combination of expressions that include small batches and single barrels. Now you have one more reason to go to Memphis(aside from the food, and music history) because the whiskey they’re making is singing a fine tune as well. Whiskey Business had an insightful, fun and interesting chat with Tommy Gallo, owner of Gallo’s Kitchen, one of the best restaurants in Columbus, Ohio. They offer a unique combination of Italian and Creole dishes that are tremendous. Tommy himself is unique as well with his thoughts and perspectives on this fickle industry and life itself. Ironically this podcast took place just before Ohio shut down all bars and restaurants to prevent the spread of COVID-19. You can still get carry out meals from Gallo’s Kitchen, but don’t miss the opportunity to get a full helping of this podcast with a great guest.

Whiskey Business goes deep in a two-parter with the guys from the podcast Comedians on South High. Jason Banks, Bobbie Dodds and Jared Blinksy sit down for a roundtable discussion that's funny, serious, and insightful. Ironically, the guest bottle was 100 proof Rebel Yell, which may have coaxed some of the bold dialogue. Enjoy the laughs, the love and the real life conversations on this week's Whiskey Business.

Ok...a bit medieval of a podcast title, but not entirely untrue. The Superintendent of Liquor Control for The State of Ohio, James Canepa returned to Whiskey Business with new insights, scoops and even some “Mean Tweets” from disgruntled purchasers of alcohol in Ohio. The “scoop” is a new member in the Jim Beam world of bourbons that’s finally making its way to Ohio. It’s reasonably priced and will be a big hit on the shelves. Tune in to find out what’s coming! There’s also an update on those Weller Full Proof bottles we (ahem) “suffered” through numerous tastings in order to pick the right ones. This was also our first Facebook Live Event. Thanks so much for those that tuned in “live” and the thousands who watched afterwards. Be on the lookout for more Whiskey Business “events.” Enjoy. Get informed. You might even get mad a little. But we promise the proof, the whole proof and nothing but the proof!

Part podcast. Part comedy show. Part gameshow. You get it all when Whiskey Business presents The Premise recorded live on The Upfront Stage at Shadowbox Live in Columbus, Ohio. This month we widened the parameters of the “funny” by adding “sketch comedy” to the mix. The rules were still the same, but this time the premises were suited for sketch comedy. Two great teams, Adamantly Indifferent with Jeff Gage and Rob Wahl went up against Savage Tech with Joel Savage and Lindsey Bowes. Also in the mix was guest comedian, Bill Arrundale who delivered a strong set that will have us all shopping at Wal-Mart.

Dino and the Whiskey Business Crew went on location to High Bank Distillery and had a great talk with co-owner Adam Hines. They dig into the birth, future, and the remarkable impact High Bank has had on the industry since its inception in 2018. Of course the night was not without tastings. The boys went through a flight of all of the High Bank whiskies available and even got a sneak peak at what’s to come. Listen, learn and laugh a little too. The Whiskey Business Crew, Dino Tripodis, Greg Hansberry and John Whitney, along with guest, Jon Osbeck, get into a topic we all can relate to: GUILTY PLEASURE MOVIES. Movies that we love for numerous reasons. Movies that may have been trashed by critics. Dumb movies, bad movies, fun movies, and even some vastly different opinions on classic movies. One person’s guilty pleasure movie can be another ones disdain. But it’s one of the few times we can say...What do Adam Sandler, Neil Diamond and Keanu Reeves all have in common? They were all part of the fun on this week’s WHISKEY BUSINESS!

No, it’s not a title of a romantic triangle movie you missed, but it IS two of our favorite movie people, George Wolf and Hope Madden from the movie review podcast THE SCREENING ROOM. They're back on WHISKEY BUSINESS to discuss who WILL win The Academy Award and who SHOULD win. They don’t always match up. But, if you’re looking to fill out a winning Oscar ballot this is a good place to start. Moving the conversation along was a bottle of REVIVAL bourbon whiskey made with four grains from High Wire Distilling Co. out of Charleston, South Carolina. Part podcast. Part comedy show. Part gameshow. You get it all when Whiskey Business presents The Premise recorded live on The Upfront Stage at Shadowbox Live in Columbus, Ohio. The Premise made its grand return on 1/16 and will be back on the third Thursday of the month through July. Two comedians are handed a “premise” they haven’t seen or heard until that night. Then they have 20 minutes to write 3-5 minutes of standup which they then perform in front of a live audience. Comedian Nickey Winkelman, a Shadowbox regular and one of the hosts of Quiz Box, returned to try and notch a win. She went up against Jeff Gage, one of Columbus’ best comedic improvisers and teachers of the craft. The results were a no-lose situation for the audience. Guest comic, Kenny Mock rocked the house and sat down for a one on one with host, Dino Tripodis. Kenny Mock is one of the hosts of the podcast Comedians on South High, a touring comedian and a regular performer on Norwegian Cruise Lines.
