I know it’s been a few months since I’ve released a podcast episode, but I’ve been dealing with what I feel like is a pretty important chapter of my life and I would like to share that with you. This is a very personal update for me, but this is also the kind of stuff that I enjoy sharing and connecting with other people on. I definitely have felt self-conscious regarding my lack of episodes this year, and I’ve been sitting on my hands waiting for our studio to be set up again (we’ve moved it from one room to another), waiting for my schedule with a toddler to feel more secure so I can interview guests, etc. Essentially, I’ve come to the conclusion that not everything needs to be an absolutely perfect scenario for things to be done, and I’m in a space where sharing and getting this done period feels important for me.With all that said, I did record this episode with my iPhone headset during Phoenix’s nap last week, so you will hear a sound machine in the background and I believe a train going by at some point.Nothing groundbreaking in this episode, just trying to share my personal experience with overwhelm, postpartum anxiety and my first experience with depressive tendencies and thought patterns. Also, want to note that I’m doing really really good as of a couple of weeks ago, and I feel like I’m in a good place to share and hold space for you if maybe this is something you suspect you’re going through. Counseling is on the horizon for me, I’m just kind of doing the insurance dance and making sure I find someone that works for me. I’m not a doctor, but I think it’s safe to say that if you’re struggling and are in a position to get counseling — do it! I went to counseling for a few years and it was so so helpful for me.I would like to get into the habit of sharing more on my podcast and starting up interviews again. I’ll most likely be doing more solo episodes in the meantime so feel free to send me episode topics! Please remember to subscribe and review the podcast if you like it!

So happy to bring you this episode with the lovely Jessica Hilzey of @KeepBreathingMama on Instagram, as we discuss her experience with birth trauma and how healing from both of her births affected everything from her relationship with food to sex.How did I meet Jess? Well, honestly, I never have. Sad! We are kindred veggie mamas living in separate states (she's in Grand Rapids, Michigan) and she has really opened my eyes (and ears) to conversations surrounding gentle parenting, lactation, birth, vaccinations, and so much more. She has a genuine voice and really has taken the time to answer my questions in the past, so I just want to share her with the masses!Announcements from me include how I changed my Instagram handle after TWO YEARS of being @Wldrnessa and really taking on that title. Last week, I tempted you all with a pretty delectable truffle recipe from The First Mess Cookbook,  getting you somewhat acquainted with the author, Laura Wright, and what she's serving up. This week, she's debuting on the podcast, chatting with me on everything from why she chooses a plant-based lifestyle to how her cookbook came into fruition.  Oh, and did I mention her cookbook is available everywhere TOMORROW? This book is unlike most plant-based cookbooks because Laura starts the book by really breaking down what materials and basic ingredients you need to have as a staple in your kitchen before you even begin. She helps readers lay the groundwork for always having delicious food on hand by helping them stock their pantry with whole grains, nuts, seeds & legumes, as well as keep fresh produce in their fridge. Not only does this approach make plant-based eating seem easy and achievable but also fun and exciting! I first heard a whisper of Laura's work and blog through our mutual friend, Jessica Murnane, whose cookbook I featured a few weeks ago. I was so intrigued by their conversations together on Jess's podcast, and I really began vibing with this girl's personality. I didn't wait long before I started reaching out to her on social media and then email, sealing her fate as a guest on my podcast!  Her approach to wellness is so refreshing, honest, and loving, keeping her primary focus on living a balanced lifestyle rather than always eating perfectly. We had a great time, and this conversation really flows like a chat between two friends. You're going to love it.

Hey, my loves! As many of you know, I've been on a bit of a hiatus (miscarriage, election, etc.), but I'M BACK AND READY TO PARTY! Ready to start the Sexy Self-Care party with Carly Morgan Gross, that is. So, this is another one of those babes I'm completely obsessed with. I fan-girled rather hard when Carly messaged me randomly one day in response to a silly Instagram story I posted. I kind of freaked out. You see, Carly is such a unique and inspiring beacon of love and hope. She encourages self-care, self-discovery, and self-love through a multitude of avenues, always reminding us that our physical bodies are merely a piece of the puzzle that is our entire existence. We are so much MORE! Take her bio for example: Hi, beauty. I'm Carly. I'm a Mind-Body Nutritionist, Self-Care Alchemist, and Self-Love Coach. I help sensitive souls feel at home in their bodies and at peace with food. (PS: your sensitivity is your greatest gift!) I guide women out of binging behaviors + body shaming and into their innate wisdom, intuition, and divine nature. I’ll also help you say goodbye to the diet-restrict-binge-emotional-eating rollercoaster and teach you how to turn your food into (quite delicious) medicine so that you can feel free and at ease from within. Ultimately: I will help you feel damn good: from the inside out. Want that? Her perspective is so refreshing, and it really resonates with me. When she encounters clients struggling with food and body-image, she encourages intuitive eating. Of course, we hear people talk about that all the time on the podcast! However, she also believes that there is nothing inherently wrong with eating nurturing whole foods, plant-based superfoods, as a means to thoroughly nourish your vessel. I feel like that's somewhat rare in the world of body-positivity, because it can translate to some people as a type of restriction. When you think of these healthful and glorious foods as inclusive instead of restrictive, then you can really shift your perspective, and change the way your body feels. You can even thrive on these foods! Okay, okay, we don't just talk about food. Like, we hardly talk about it compared to the topic of sexuality and sensuality. What?! We're talkin' about SEX, baby --- and you're going to love it. Want to know how to harness and embrace your feminist, and how that does NOT make you less of a woman (or a feminist for that matter), you absolutely have to tune into this episode. Amanda works with women worldwide to create personalized mind body nutrition programs that focus on body acceptance, all while achieving and setting goals in a loving, nourishing way. After moving to Manhattan to pursue a career as a fashion designer at the early age of 18, Amanda began consuming the message of rail-thin perfectionism as the ideal look of her chosen industry -- resulting in a bout of exercise addiction and loss of interest in her art all together. She began pursuing health coaching, eating psychology, and through working with her own coach, she was able to rebuild and restore her relationship with her body and movement. The Wilder Podcast | Episode #7 | Young Marriage + Staying Motivated

Hey, everyone! So, I mentioned on Instagram that I was taking questions for a Q&A-style podcast episode, and this is the result! I ended up just choosing and focusing on two questions. One being: What are the pros and cons of getting married young? What obstacles did you face? What was the resistance from your family if any? How did you deal with that? Any advice? #2: How do you stay motivated? These are two questions I could probably speak on in depth for hours, but I kept this a little tame. Please know that these are just my experiences and personal views on these subjects. I know that some of what I'm speaking on in this episode is controversial and you may not agree with my stance, but that's totally fine. I'm TOTALLY fine with that. There isn't really much to put in the show notes other than the book I mentioned by Gala Darling, which you can find here. Love you all so much! Let me know what you think of this episode! xoxo KD

I think I can successfully say I fully geeked out during this interview. Much like the last episode with Katie Dalebout, I've been obsessing over this week's guest's work for a bit now, and I think this conversation was loaded with juicy stuff. You know who I'm talking about. Yeah. I'm talking about the woman wellness weirdo, Jessica Murnane. Some of you may remember a few months ago I shared a blog post listing off my current favorite podcasts, and you may remember a specifically incredible one called the One Part Podcast by Jessica Murnane. If you missed that post and haven't gotten into her pod, now's your chance to learn more about her before you dive in! Already stay plugged into Jessica's work? Then you're definitely going to love this discussion we had regarding everything from body image and endometriosis, to some shit that's been going down in the world and why we should raise our voices. Jessica's blog, One Part Plant stems from the concept that every single one of us can benefit from making even the smallest shifts toward a plant-based lifestyle. In her case, she's found that eating plant-based has helped reduce her symptoms from stage IV endometriosis, and though she recognizes that everyone is different, I think we both can agree that there are seemingly infinite benefits to incorporating more plants into your diet. Lucky for us, Jessica is sharing even more of her scrumptious and creative (yet simple) plant-based recipes in her upcoming cookbook, which she speaks a lot about in this episode! Yay! Personally, I've been drawn to Jessica's story since last May. I was curled up on my couch with tears streaking my face and a smoldering heating pad smushed against my pelvis as I desperately Googled "foods for endometriosis pain and balancing hormones". As I share in this podcast episode, I continued to her site where I found Laura Miller of Raw. Vegan. Not. Gross smiling back at me. One of my favorite food bloggers! Froobs! I was instantly hooked. I don't want to overwhelm you with a lengthy introduction, because I absolutely want you to jump right into this episode and become mildly to moderately obsessed with Jessica.

Well, I don't even know where to start with this episode. I guess I could start by explaining how deeply my girl crush for this week's guest runs. Katie Dalebout is an author, podcast host, beautiful human, and claims she's not an expert at anything but that she's simply an enthusiast of a bunch of things --- so, I suppose you can imagine it's a little tricky to pinpoint who she is in just a few words. As I mention to Katie in this episode, she may not know it but I've spent at least 50 hours at her side, going on walks and cooking as she interviews dozens of talented and inspiring women through my headphones. I genuinely had a hard time even asking her the right questions for those of you who've never heard of her! I definitely encourage you subscribe and take a listen to her podcast. I was just listening to her #117th episode, so you have a ton of material to dive into! This year, she published her first book Let it Out: A Journey Through Journaling which is an amazing tool she's created to simplify and demystify the ominous practice of journaling, making its well-touted ability to impact your self-growth much easier. I'm no mega-journaler, so this in an excellent opportunity for me to incorporate some serious shifts in my nightly practice. Hell, I might even take her word for it and start different journals for different topics! Who knows. I'm not going to say too much on here, because I don't really like to take up too much of your time you could be spending listening to our conversation, but I will inform you that this is the longest podcast episode I've done so far. I'm trying to keep things within an hour, but this episode was just too delicious and packed with incredible things to edit anything out. You just get it all. I also had a shit-load of questions prepared for Katie, but I didn't really use them. This was an unscripted piece of magic that really left me feeling wickedly refreshed. We even had a few moments of the record that really shook things up for me. She's just so breathtakingly inspiring and understanding of a few not-so-awesome things I've been dealing with that I don't share with the world-wide-web.

Hey, everyone! I'm so stoked to announce the first guest on the podcast is Jyssica Yelas of the Style Opal! Jyssica Yelas is a fashion stylist, blogger, and social media consultant based in Portland, OR. Having been raised in East Texas with Hawaiian and Oregonian roots, she moved to Portland after graduating from Oregon State University to pursue her passions. Initially inspired by an opal ring at a market in Florence, Italy, Jyssica started The Style Opal in 2014 to celebrate what she believes makes up personal style: a reflection of the experiences, interactions and travels of the individual. The color play of an opal reflects every color of the rainbow, just as personal style is not confined to one approach, but can reflect any every angle of a person and their passions or moods. In this episode, we got really conversational. Please excuse and embrace the conversational likes, ums, you knows, etc. that occur during this episode. I'll be better about speaking more clearly in the future! It's also an episode with some f-bombs and other swear words, so if listening around little ones, throw on some headphones! In addition to discussing Jyssica's journey from cheerleading teen to boho-chic lifestyle maven, we also touched on a few social and cultural issues that might make you uncomfortable. Sit in the discomfort and see if you agree with what we're talking about! For the show notes, and donate to the pod, visit the site! Wldrnessa.com/wilderpodcast

By now, you've seen our official Wilder Podcast announcement, and hopefully you're stoked on the first episode! Honestly, this podcast has been my baby this summer, and I've had the honor of speaking with so many influential and inspirational women. The idea behind the Wilder Podcast is to create a space for Women, Wellness, and Weirdos. From body image, food, and exercise, to spirituality, feminism, and maybe even global issues, Wilder is a place to listen to other women's stories, struggles, and accomplishments so that you can see that maybe you're not alone. Maybe this blogger, this musician, this author, this designer, whoever it is I'm speaking with, has a journey that parallels with yours. Maybe they worked hard to achieve their goals, and maybe they never thought they would. This first episode is an introductory episode, where I'm the only guest. Disappointed? Don't be! Take a listen to hear some more background about myself, some juicy stuff I've never mentioned on the blog, and my plans for the podcast.
