POPULARITY
Eachof these statements would have been highly valued by the Judaizers of his day. They believed that these things gave a person standing before God. Paul isabout to show that they do not. First, Paul says he was "circumcisedthe eighth day." This means that Paul was not a convert to Judaismlater in life. He was born into a faithful Jewish family that obeyed the Law ofMoses. According to Genesis 17 and Leviticus 12:3, Jewish male children were tobe circumcised on the eighth day. Paulis saying that from the very beginning he had every religious advantage. He didnot come from a pagan background. He did not enter Judaism as an adult. He wasraised according to the covenant traditions of Israel from infancy. Yet noticesomething very important. Even though Paul had experienced the proper religiousceremony at the proper time, he still needed to be saved. Thatis a powerful lesson for us today. Many people trust in a ceremony. Some trustin infant baptism. Some trust in confirmation. Some trust in church membership.Others even trust in a profession of faith they made years ago. While thesethings may have their place, none of them can save us. A ceremony can identifyus with a faith community, but only Jesus Christ can save the soul. Paul hadthe right ceremony, but he still needed a Savior. Secondly,Paul said he was "of the stock of Israel." This means hebelonged to God's chosen nation, Israel. He was not a Gentile proselyte. He wasa direct descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The Jews treasured theirnational identity. They knew God had chosen Israel and given them Hiscovenants, His Law, and His promises. Romans 9:4-5 lists many of theseprivileges. Yet Paul learned that being born into the right family could notsave him. Youmay have heard people say—and I certainly have—"My parents wereChristians," or "My grandfather was a pastor," or "I wasraised in church." Those are wonderful blessings. But no one enters heavenon the faith of parents or grandparents. God has no grandchildren. Third,Paul said he was "of the tribe of Benjamin." This was one ofthe most honored tribes in Israel. Benjamin was the tribe that remained loyalto the house of David when the kingdom divided. Jerusalem was located on theborder of Benjamin's territory. Israel's first king, Saul, came from the tribeof Benjamin. Many Bible scholars even believe that Paul may have been namedSaul because of that connection. The tribe of Benjamin carried a certainprestige among Jewish people. Finally,Paul said he was "a Hebrew of the Hebrews." This means that Paul hadmaintained the Hebrew culture, language, and traditions. Many of the Jewsthroughout the Roman Empire had adopted Greek customs and language. But Paul'sfamily had remained deeply committed to their Jewish identity. Religion says,"Look at my family." Religion says, "Look at my heritage." Religionsays, "Look at my traditions." Religion says, "Look at mycredentials." The Gospel says, "Look at Jesus." Paul is buildinghis case carefully. He is showing that if anyone could have earned favor withGod through religious credentials and advantages, it was him. Yet in the versesahead, he will tell us that he counted all these things as loss for Jesus Christ. This is true today as well. You may have been raised in church. You may knowyour Bible. You may have Christian parents. You may even have served inministry as a pastor for many years. ButI am telling you, my friend, as wonderful as these blessings are, ourconfidence must never be in these things. Our confidence must be in JesusChrist alone. I will never forget reading where Billy Graham said, "Thegreatest mission field in the world is in the pews of American churches." Inother words, many people think that because they are sitting in church onSunday morning, they are Christians and on their way to heaven.

Thepronunciation is fine with me and its vocabulary is similar to English. But I'mfinding the grammar awful.W: Well, it takes a while to getit right.(Text2) W: I hope you can come to theparty on Saturday.M: I didn't know I was invited.W: Sure you are! Everyone in ouroffice is invited.(Text3)W: May I help you?M: Yes, when is the next train toLondon?W: Oh, let me check. It leaves intwenty minutes.M: One ticket, please.(Text4)W: Charlie, do you know arestaurant called Bravo?M: Bravo… I know the name. ButI'm not sure where it is.W: It's on George Street. Thefood there is excellent.(Text5)W: Brian, I just had aninterview. They said they would make a decision soon.M: What are your chances ofgetting the job?W: Quite good. I think theinterview went very well.(Text6)M: Let's go kite-flying, Judy. It's such a lovely day.W: OK. But let me finish mychemistry homework first. Would you mind waiting for half an hour, Max? Thereare a few sports magazines on the table. M: Isn't the chemistry homeworkdue next Wednesday?W: Yeah. But I have a full day ofclasses on Monday and a birthday party to attend on Tuesday.M: All right then, you go ahead. And I'll catch up on some sports news while waiting.(Text7)W: We've been on the computer allthe time lately. Why don't we do something different Sunday afternoon?M: Well, we could go to aconcert...W: But I don't think we can getthe tickets this late.M: Then, what about playing acomputer game? There's a really cool new one we could download.W: Hmm. I don't know. I feel likeI need to do some exercise. We could probably just walk by the lake, and I'llask Mike to join us.M: That sounds like fun. Let's doit!(Text8)W: Welcome to our program, Dr.Peterson. Let's see what questions we've got for you today. Here's one: Cancats see color?M: Sort of. In the wild, manycats hunt at night because their eyes are designed for low light. Your catcan't see bright colors, such as red and green, but it picks up more shades ofblue, yellow, and gray than humans do.W: And why do cats “give” deadbirds to their owners?M: When your cat drops a deadbird at your feet, she isn't bringing you a present. Most cats just drag foodhome because it's a safe place to eat. A cat's mom also brings home things toher children to help them practice hunting. So a female cat without childrenmay bring these “treats” to her owner instead. You may not like them, but atleast, you don't have to write her a thank-you note.(Text9)W: How is little Ed doing at thekindergarten, Jack?M: Oh, he's doing fairly well. It's been three weeks since he first started going, so Macy and I are prettyused to it now. You should have seen Macy cry when Ed was about to set off onthe first day, though!W: I think that's a normalreaction for mothers. You live quite close to the kindergarten, don't you? Howdoes he get there?M: Macy walks there with himevery morning, unless the weather is bad. When it rains, they'll drive.W: And is Ed enjoyingkindergarten?M: Yeah, he loves to have otherkids to play with. He keeps telling us things they do together.W: What do the teachers at thekindergarten say about him?M: They said he is bright andthat he's starting to learn how to tell time. Isn't that fantastic?W: That is fantastic. It soundslike everything goes well.(Text10)W: My name is Emily. I had been adancer for quite a long time—I started studying ballet when I was six yearsold. By the time I was nine, I was dancing five days a week. When I waseighteen, I decided that I really preferred contemporary dance and that I wantedto do it professionally. So, I applied successfully for the training program atthe School of Toronto Dance Theater and moved to Toronto to attend the program. That was the period of time I enjoyed most in Toronto. I graduated onscholarship and danced professionally for ten years, but after all those years,I found that dance was gradually becoming something that felt like more of aburden than a joy; I found myself increasingly unwilling to drag myself todance performances, so I quit. I do miss dance often, but it makes me happy tothink that I'll never have to go to another training session again.
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union, NEHAWU says it is flabbergasted by Higher Education Minister Buti Manamela's decision to place NSFAS under administration without consulting the union. The union argues past administrators left the scheme with maladministration, financial irregularities and poor governance. NEHAWU had urged the Minister to work with stakeholders after board members resigned to stabilise the scheme. We spoke to NEHAWU National Spokesperson, Lwazi Nkolonzi.
Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, “What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?” They stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?” He asked them, “What things?” They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body there they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see him.” Then he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures. As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.” So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?” That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem, and they found the eleven and their companions gathered together. They were saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and he has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had happened on the road and how he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread. Luke 24:13-35 NRSVUE Sermon Part 2: Christ in Our Conversations So for this part two, our theme of our preaching is “Christ in our conversations.” Sabi nga sa Matthew chapter 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” But of course, we also honor and value ‘yung mga intimate at personal conversations natin with God through prayer. While it is true na mas yumayabong at nabibigyan ng buhay ang ating mga conversations with each other and the community. After all nga ‘di ba, bilang isang Metropolitan Community Church, community is our middle name. Tama ba?. I also believe na mahalagang pagtuunan din natin ng pansin and a good practice ‘yung pagiging self-aware. Ang matutong makinig sa pansariling pangangailangan, to listen to our bodies, to affirm ourselves first na hindi kasalanan ang pagiging bakla, so that we can also affirm others. We need to resolve our own struggles before we can do that for other people. The famous line: you cannot pour from an empty cup. And we have clarity in our personal lives to inspire that capacity to others. Shit ba? Paborito na ni Joseph?. Mga kasita, we miss you, Chang. So we know that God, through Jesus, has always been with us in our journey. At napakinggan din natin ang isa sa mga pinaka-life-changing na holy conversation moment doon sa ating gospel reading , kung saan, after nilang mag-sharing about scripture ng breaking of bread ay bigla na lang naglaho ‘yung stranger na kasalubong nila patungong Emmaus. At sa punto ring ‘yon, na-realize nila na it was Jesus, that it was him all along. Christ is present in our conversations. Hindi lamang tuwing linggo sa ating praise and worship, kundi sa mga ordinary moments in our lives. Hindi lamang sa mga masasaya, lalo’t higit sa mga masasalimuot at difficult conversations that we have to deal with. Naalala ko ‘yung chika ko, paniniwala ako nung bago ako dumating sa MCC sa Open Table. Pansin niyo ba na sa mga moments na when we have personal conversations with God, may mga times na tayo lang ‘yung nagsasalita, where we cry out to Jesus. We give thanks, we ask forgiveness, and may mga moments naman na tayo ay tahimik lang and letting our hearts speak the prayers that our mouths couldn’t utter. I mean, I am glad that I was able to get through it, but I am also aware that it’s not the same for everyone. Some people may still be in that situation or perhaps find themselves in the loop na paulit-ulit lang or paikot-ikot lang. Sa dami ng aking iniisip—trabaho, travels, at iba pang ganap as an extrovert at natural people person. At the same time, ‘yung mga gampanin sa ating simbahan as pastor in discernment, in that journey, I stumbled upon ‘yung podcast of Coach Pia Acevedo. Kilala niyo ba si Coach Pia? So si Coach Pia is a life coach, author, and a leadership trainer with over two decades of experience in coaching and counseling. She helps people cut through confusion and live with clarity, purpose, and intention so that they can focus on what truly matters. Isa sa mga magandang napulot ko from her ay connected sa pagiging present. Hindi man lingid sa kaalaman ng lahat na marami sa ating mga akla ay mga breadwinner. Imagine as a queer person who is already struggling to fight discrimination on top of the fight for the same rights as our straight allies. Pero habang wala pa tayo doon, I suggest you can grab muna ‘yung copy nung books from Coach Pia. Nag-promote pa, not sponsored. So I’m yet to finish ‘yung first book and ito ‘yun. Ito ‘yung unang “Focus on What Matters”. I’m yet to finish this and plan to start ‘yung isa pa, ‘yung “Moment to Moment”, right after. Tama ba?. No more time to play with the kids after work dahil madalas pagod na lang sa trabaho kung ‘di pa rin sa commute. And si Coach Pia reminds us that when we don’t do our inner work, we don’t just suffer alone. The people we love encounter a compromised version of us. ‘Yun ‘yon. Meet the compromised version of you. Imagine that you’re in front of the mirror ng mahiwagang salamin, boy, for a few moments. Look at that compromised version of you. Do you like what you see?. And imagine kung ano na kaya ang extent ng damage that it had cost you and your loved ones. So paano natin matutulungan ‘yung ating compromised version? What does it take to achieve clarity and focus sa ating mga buhay?. So sa book na “Focus on What Matters,” Coach Pia talks about the need for inner work, which is a journey that starts by laying the groundwork for clarity through practices like self-mastery, self-development, and self-commitment. She talked about habits that we can commit to in order to achieve personal clarity. And for today, I’d like to share to you about M.I.C.K. abbreviation siya. That stands for motivating, inspiring, cheering, and being kind to ourselves. It is both a habit that we can commit to and a muscle we exercise because, again, we can’t pour from an empty cup. And these intentional habits will help us fill our cup. So number one is ‘yung letter M, Motivation. Motivation habit is any regimen or routine that you know works well for you. It involves committing to routines, no matter how trivial, that bring out the best in you. Through these personalized activities, we nurture ourselves and anchor on the stability they provide. An example could be making your bed in the morning, listening to music, and preparing breakfast. One more example could be dedicating a time to exercise, let’s say three times a week. So how do we know if a habit or activity is worth committing to?. We know when we feel something is missing if we skip it, and when we distinctly feel recharged by integrating it into our schedule regularly. Motivation habit serves as a fuel to our tank. By committing to these habits, we experience a steady rhythm that keeps us grounded, whether these are daily, weekly, or monthly habits. Next is your Inspiration, your I. If motivation muscle provides the structure for self-care, inspiration muscle naman brings a wave of joy that refreshes us. Unlike motivation habits which follow rhythm, inspiration habits are done less frequently but offer a full recharge. It enables us to stay connected to what makes us feel alive, providing a surge of deep joy in moments when it is needed. Tapping our sources of inspiration which ignite our natural creativity can foster positive energy and overall well-being. And sabi ni Coach Pia, among doon sa mga clients niya, travel is the most common source of inspiration. We can only take trips every so often, but when we do, there’s infusion of new energy. Traveling reconnects us to the natural enthusiasm and joy reminiscent of childhood. And to activate inspiration muscle is to take ownership of your need for mga picker-upper choices and activities that infuse you with the surge of energy. Other than travel, this can also range from planning a trip or to simple pleasures like enjoying a YouTube video or tuning into a podcast. Mga ka-eme. May mga ka-eme ba dito? Yes. Or listening to music that swiftly recharges you to become your best self. Learning something new or engaging in hobbies that awaken your creativity can also serve this purpose. Even revisiting ‘yung mga old hobbies that once sparked joy can once again ignite your enthusiasm for life and tap into the best version of yourself. As clarity is a personal journey, only you yourself are capable of choosing the inspiration that you need. An inspired person feels alive. Whatever brings you inspiration is a non-negotiable in your life. Next naman is ‘yung C which stands for Cheer. Picture yourself as your own personal cheerleader. The cheer muscle involves encouraging ourselves to push past our limits, especially in our adversity. Cheer is a non-negotiable habit we put in place to help us manage stress. We can proactively anticipate stressful times and plan ahead by intentionally plotting activities and inserting habits into our schedule. This will help us manage the demand of our hectic schedule. Sensitivity toward ourselves is crucial in strengthening our cheer muscle. Start exercising sensitivity and observation skills. Look at your calendar and anticipate which specific meetings, social events, projects, or deliverables you know will trigger your stress, anxiety, or heaviness. Kumbaga paghahandaan mo na siya. Pag alam mo mas-stress ako sa week na ‘to , kailangan gumawa na ako ng mga habits na magre-recharge sa akin. This approach provides you with the support needed to manage potential heaviness or disengagement. Since we know ourselves best, let’s prepare ourselves for anticipated stress and activities. Just like a cheerleader motivates the team during the final seconds of a game, we cheer for ourselves to stay resilient and persevere towards our goals. Even when the going gets tough, our cheer muscle enables us to face life’s challenges well-prepared as they often come relentlessly unexpected. A strong cheer muscle enhances our resilience, enabling us to bounce back more quickly from stressful situations. Last naman is ‘yung Kindness. Kindness is your capacity to be nurturing, kind, patient, and compassionate towards yourself just as you would a loved one or a best friend. The strength of our kindness muscle should allow you to be intentional in your caring for others as you would care for yourself. One strong measure of the strength of your kindness muscle is our capacity to forgive ourselves, forgive others, or ask for forgiveness for when we feel we may have hurt. And kindness is the most difficult muscle to strengthen. As often than not, we did not grow up with strong models of people around us living a life of kindness, nurturing patience and love for ourselves. Nabanggit ko rin ‘to doon sa ano natin, parang hirap para sa atin na maging forgiving of ourselves. From a young age, we are also taught to prioritize the needs of others. Yet, our ability to care for others hinges on how well we take care of ourselves. Showing kindness to ourselves is important, especially when we face setbacks or disappointments. It’s about offering ourselves the same support and encouragement that we readily give others. Strengthening our kindness muscle means taking the time to pause, relax, and rest. Doing anything that nurtures you, like eating well, enjoying your favorite food, and getting plenty of sleep is essential. We must accept that we cannot always meet our own expectations and let go of attachments to specific outcomes. By forgiving ourselves when we falter, honoring the progress we’ve made, and staying open to learning from failures, we create a space for us to grow into the best versions of ourselves. Being kind to yourself is also a non-negotiable in your life. So ano siya, pwedeng magkakahalo siya, ‘yung mga what motivates you can also inspire you. Pwedeng-pwede siyang pumasok doon sa alin sa mga iyon. So our internal guide has a big say in how we make decisions. It’s all about progress, learning, and embracing our imperfections along the way. This journey of growth allows us to center ourselves and focus on what truly counts in life. The more we nurture this process, the better we become at self-care and connecting with our genuine selves. So I hope that you also learned something as much as I did nung sa book na ‘to at marami pa. Ipapa-hiram ko kasi hindi pa ako tapos. At ‘yun sa part na nai-share ko sa inyo about sa “Focus on What Matters” by Coach Pia, ito ‘yung mga simpleng bagay na pwede nating gawin para sa ating mga sarili to move from a compromised version to the best version of ourselves. Pero hindi natatapos doon ang lahat. As we strive to become the best version of ourselves, mahalaga ring pag-usapan ang pagse-set ng boundaries. Beep beep. Mahirap talagang iwalay ang pagiging nanay sa pagiging provider as a mother. Alam ko hindi ‘to madali, but I hope you are able to do so and have these conversations. After all, wala namang hindi nadadaan sa maayos na usapan. So now let’s go back to the journey ni Cleopas at isa pang disciple. Let us be reminded of their enthusiasm when they realized that they had been in conversation with Jesus all along. This story reminds us that God is always with us sa ating paglalakbay, that we can be that other disciple na unnamed. Hindi man tayo ever makapaglalakad kasama ang historical Jesus, ‘di ba, o baka sa panaginip, pero ano ba ‘yung pangako? That we have each other. We experience Christ in our many conversations with our families, with our loved ones, with our chosen families like here sa ating simbahan, at lalo na when we are intentional sa ating pakikinig at pagiging in solidarity sa iba’t iba pang community lalo na sa mga maralita. As I close this part two, keyword “close,” napaisip rin ako baka lumalayo na ako sa theme na “Christ in our conversations.”. Pero I had a Holy Spirit activate moment. I feel that this is a perfect opportunity to also talk about self-love —ang matutunang makinig sa kung anong sinasabi ng ating mga katawan at isip. At sa bawat pakikipag-usap natin sa iba, we find Christ in their stories and hope that they find Christ in us and through us. Napapalalim ang ating pakikipagbahagi at pakikisangkot sa pakikinig ng kanilang kwento. We hold the power to carry these stories and share them with others. And being with Open Table MCC for almost 10 years now, marami na akong nakasama, nakasalamuha, nakadaupang-palad, nakausap at narinig ng mga kwento—ang mga Lumad, ang mga persons deprived of liberty sa QC Women’s Penitentiary , ang mga magsasaka sa Lupang Ramos, ang mga batang PLHIV na nasa pangangalaga ng Duyan Foundation at Project Red Ribbon, at ang ilan sa mga communities na naabutan ng tulong ng Pride Cares, mga nasalanta ng bagyo sa Rodriguez, Rizal at iba pang naabutan ng tulong through our partnership sa iba’t iba pang LGBTQIA+ organizations. Ang kanilang mga kwento ay patuloy kong dadalhin at subukang maibahagi sa marami pang pakikipag-usap, lalo na sa panibagong responsibility as pastor in discernment. Ganito rin ang sinasabi ko sa mga students who come and be in immersion with us. Iilan lang sa kanila ang bakla at may katulad na kwento sa atin, pero ibinabahagi natin ang ating mga kwento in the hope na dalhin nila ito as they go on in their lives hanggang makarating na sila sa kanilang adulting journey, sharing the good news sa mga kapwa nila estudyante who still struggle to resolve their sexuality with their spirituality, to tell them about the small church where you can come as you are in your most authentic self, where you can express your love of God in the most fantabulous and flamboyant way. Amen ba? At bilang Easter people, dahil hindi lang natapos ang kwento sa muling pagkabuhay ni Kristo, let us be reminded that we are the continuation of the story. Galing kay RD ‘yan at lagi kong panghahawakan ‘yang narinig ko sa preaching niya. Ayan, nawala na ako. And with that comes the power na magpatuloy at bilang Open Table MCC to have meaningful conversations, even difficult ones, to take part in the call for ceasefire and to put an end to meaningless war. Conversations that continue to create safe spaces, and our participation in the wider work of justice and peace through Jesus who proclaimed a radically inclusive love for all people, at ‘pag kinakailangan ay harapin ang mga usapang mahirap lalo na sa mga kakilala or kapamilya natin na patuloy nagbubulag-bulagan at pumipili at naghahalal ng mga leader na corrupt at sangkot sa katiwalian. Hindi man ito madali, I hope that we’re always reminded na parte rin sila ng pinaglalaban, that there’s more that unites us than separates us. Let us also be intentional sa pangangamusta sa mga mahal natin sa buhay knowing always that Jesus is present in our conversations to speak with love and compassion. At kung ikaw naman ‘yung may kinikimkim sa loob mo kung ano man ‘yan, I hope that the Holy Spirit touches your heart so you can find the courage to have that conversation, one that could inspire, heal, and transform you and others, knowing that God, Jesus, will be there with you. Amen. The post Easter: The Walk To Emmaus Part 2 appeared first on Open Table Metropolitan Community Church.
Philippians 1:12 Todaywe are continuing to look at Philippians 1:12. The Apostle Paul is writing backto the church of Philippi from prison in Rome. He is in chains, and he writes, “ButI want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me haveactually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel.” You can imagine hisfriends back at Philippi are concerned. Paul is in prison. He might be beaten, like he was when he was in jail in Philippi years ago when he founded thechurch there. Paul might be hungry. He might be terribly hurt. He might betortured. Maybe he is even facing death. They could have been so concerned. YetPaul writes to them this letter of encouragement. He says, “But I want you toknow, brethren, that the things that have happened to me have actually turnedout for the furtherance of the gospel.” Theymight have been thinking that Paul is such a great minister. He has otherchurches and cities to go to. He has churches to plant. He is a church builder. He is a church planter. Now he is in prison. How could God allow that tohappen? Yet Paul is saying, “No, no, that is just the opposite. God has me herefor a purpose.” Overthe years, I have talked about divine appointments. One of the most excitingthings in my life over the years—especially as we traveled, or even in everydaylife—is that I believe we should be looking for divine appointments. God hassomebody, somewhere in our path, that He wants us to tell about Jesus Christ.Sometimes it ends up being in the strangest places. Iwill never forget when I went to visit a man in the hospital. I had his name.He was a friend of mine, and I had known him for years. I looked up his name atthe hospital, found his room number, and went to that room. I looked in, and itwas not him. There was someone else in that bed. I went back down to thenurse's station and said, “Hey, listen, I am looking for so-and-so. I know heis here. Here is his name, and this is the room number.” They looked it up andsaid, “That is the man. He is in that bed. He is in that room.” I said, “No, heis not. I know him. He is not in there.” They said, “He is too. That is the manin that room.” Iwent back and looked, and sure enough, the man in the bed had the exact samename as the man I was wanting to visit—but he was a totally different person. Isat there and began talking to him and asked him where he went to church. Hesaid he did not go anywhere. I shocked him by saying, “That is great. That isreally good.” He said, “What? You are a pastor. You would expect me to go tochurch.” I said, “Oh no. One thing I do not have to worry about is that you arenot thinking going to church will get you to heaven.” I had the opportunity towitness to him, lead him to Christ, and later baptize him and his wife. Adivine appointment. I never would have expected it. I was not in the wrongroom—I was in the right place at the right time, on God's timing, in God'sdivine appointment. Thereare so many opportunities that take place. Paul says, “I want you to know, brethren, that the things that have happened to me have actually turned out forthe furtherance of the gospel.” Doors open for us that would not have openedany other way. God places us in unexpected situations—not to stop us, but touse us. It might be the workplace. It might be a hospital room, as we said. Itmight be a difficult season in our life. Iremind you of Proverbs 16:9: “A man's heart plans his way, but the Lorddirects his steps.” Proverbs 20:24: “A man's steps are of the Lord; howthen can a man understand his own way?” And then Psalm 37:23: “The stepsof a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”
Send Jackie A Message! You've been running your studio for years. You survived the startup phase, you survived COVID, and now a competitor just opened down the street. You're still teaching most of the classes. And that teacher training you've been meaning to launch? Still sitting on the back burner. In this episode, Jackie sits down with Rachel, owner of Elevate Coleman—a barre, yoga, and Buti yoga studio in a small Southern town. Rachel found Jackie during COVID recovery, went through the Studio CEO Program, joined the Grow Mastermind, and now works with Jackie one-on-one. She's nearly a decade into her business and still growing.Timestamps:[03:30] From show choir and gymnastics to barre[07:00] Proof of concept before signing a lease[11:20] Opening with a 6-month-old[14:00] The 3 phases of running a studio[20:00] How Rachel found Jackie and decided to invest[27:00] The VIP on-site visit experience[34:00] How Rachel talent-scouts and develops teachers[43:30] The CEO mindset shift — working on the business, not just in itKey Takeaways:✔️ You don't need a perfect manual to launch a teacher training. Version one is the goal.✔️ Proof of concept can start with a notebook, 50 names, and basic math.✔️ Every studio goes through three phases: startup, survival, and stable growth in competition.✔️ Operating in your strengths and hiring for the rest is a CEO-level decision. ✔️ Being around other scaling studio owners shows you what's possible—and what's next.Pull Quotes:"If they were playing baseball, I've been in T-ball.""There's no such thing as a perfect manual. Can you get version one out there now?""My job is CEO first. Teaching supports that.""Steer yourself and your team toward what's going right. Do more of that."FAQ:How do I know if my town is big enough for a boutique fitness studio? It's math, not population. Figure out how many members at what price point covers your rent, then work backwards. Rachel opened in a town with zero boutique fitness and built a nine-year business doing exactly that.Studio CEO Program vs. Grow Mastermind — what's the difference? The Studio CEO Program is where you start—auditing your business and building core systems. The Mastermind is for owners who are already running and ready to focus on leadership, paid ads, and scaling alongside other growth-minded studio owners.Should I launch a teacher training before it's perfect? Yes. There is no perfect manual. What you know from years of teaching is the curriculum. Get version one out, then refine. Waiting means another year of being short-staffed.How do I find good teachers for my studio? Watch your students. Look for people who absorb instruction as a teacher would. Rachel identified one of her best teachers just by observing how she moved through class—then asked her to lunch. What does the CEO mindset shift actually look like for studio owners? It means recognizing that your primary job is to grow the business—and teaching supports that, not the other way around. Today,as we continue our introduction to the book of Epistle to the Philippians, Iwant us to think about the amazing circumstances in which this letter waswritten. When you look at the book of Philippians, you find that it is one ofthe most joyful books in the New Testament. In fact, it overflows withencouragement, gratitude, and rejoicing. Yet the Apostle Paul wrote this letterwhile he was a prisoner in Rome. In chapter 1 of Philippians, you will findthat at least four times he mentions the phrase “my chains”—in verse 7,verse 13, verse 14, and verse 16. Even in the opening chapter of this letter tothe church at Philippi, he keeps referring to “my chains.” Paul isreminding them that he is a prisoner in Rome. Tounderstand how remarkable that is, we need to remember a little about the lifeof the Apostle Paul. When you study his life, you go back to the book of Actsof the Apostles. In chapter 9 you find the story of his conversion. But evenbefore that, in chapter 7, you see Paul standing there when Stephen is beingmartyred. He was one of the instigators of the riot that led to Stephen beingstoned. Then in chapter 8 you find him actively persecuting the church. But inchapter 9 everything changes when he encounters Jesus Christ on the road toDamascus. Yet from that moment forward, his life became a life of hardship andsacrifice for the sake of the gospel. Soonafter his conversion, while still in Damascus, he began preaching the gospel. But when he preached, he made many people angry. In fact, there was a plot tokill him there in Damascus, and he had to be lowered down in a basket over thecity wall to escape. Later, in the city of Lystra during his first missionaryjourney in Acts 13, he was stoned by a mob and left for dead.InPhilippi, he and Silas were beaten and thrown into prison.InThessalonica, a riot broke out because of his preaching.InAthens, the philosophers mocked him.InCorinth, he was dragged before the Roman authorities.InEphesus, a massive riot broke out that threatened his life.Againand again, Paul faced opposition, persecution, danger, and suffering for thesake of Christ. Yethere he is, writing from prison to the church at Philippi. And in verse 12 hesays something remarkable:“ButI want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me haveactually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel.” In other words, Paulwas saying, “What has happened to me has actually helped the gospel spread.” Evenin his imprisonment he found opportunities to tell people about Jesus Christ.Roman guards were hearing the gospel. Other believers were becoming more boldin their witness. The message of Jesus Christ was advancing. Paulhad learned to see his circumstances through the lens of God's purposes. Insteadof asking, “Why is this happening to me?” Paul asked, “How can God use this forHis glory and for the spread of the gospel?” That perspective is what filledhis heart with joy. The book of Philippians reminds us that joy is notdetermined by our circumstances. Circumstances change constantly. Some days aregood, and some days are difficult. Some seasons of life bring blessings, whileothers bring great trials. So our joy cannot be based on changingcircumstances.Todaywe need to remember this simple truth: Real joy is not found in perfectcircumstances. Real joy is found in trusting a perfect Savior. And that is thekind of joy the book of Philippians will teach us about as we study it togetherover the next few weeks. Godbless you, and may you have a wonderful, wonderful day.

New Sode Glitter Ledger; I must be the only person on God's Green Earth who is so deeply unimpressed with AI. Have you ever heard one of your peers or staff speak with authority on the topic without sounding like a complete pompous asshole with small anatomy and/or a troubling complexion? Alas, I consider myself a deeply attractive pompous asshole with a kind stalker-like disposition . As such, I use ChatGPT like rest of my well bred waspy goldigging alcoholic materialistic sxually starved intellectuals for concoctions on how to seduce a Sheik or for how to leverage all of my alimony into a House in St St. Tropez. Otherwise, I see the AI use cases as a Communist Manifesto; good idea in practice, but everyone ends up #poor. Perhaps automated workflows are uninteresting to yours truly because I have no workflow to automate. Ipso Facto; wake me when #AI can give my husband a uknowwhat and design a powerpoint that designs a plan to launder money for the lazy. I digress,, my guest today is a real Crypto Nigerian Prince, side ordered as a well dressed Zoologist turned Ava Labs Executive. Not to be confused with an Avalanche Foundation executive. Yes, Afeez Awowole. He is a sought after guest and heavily edited my questions because most were too personal and likely indictable. I was looking forward to learning how to cook the books beyond throwing my journals into boiling water. I asked him why #accounting is so boring. I asked how to talk about balance sheets with a hint of mortifying sexual tension. When I was high on quaaludes I took out a mortgage that I made on crayons to buy more #AVAX and could only eat chickpeas and prosecco for 3 weeks. ButI lost a stone so I am bullish. Furthermore, my ex had a penchant for the P-chain.#Avalanche is the less cute stepsister of #Solana with an Ivy League degree and a #vicodin problem. She has what it takes to succeed with meaningful useless institutional partnerships for real world assets that I cannot melt down into a bullet. Real world assets should not be on-chain and should be in a #vault. Although I have some assets onchain I lost them because it is too goddamn complicated to retrieve. But like #Jesus Christ rising on Easter, Avax too will rise. I digress, Awkle met during the early days of Facebook in Ireland, I was working as a cocktail waitress on the lam and he helped set up a sick album. I was desperately in love with him but he maintained that he couldn't marry a married woman . Instead he agreed to help me put my ConED on autopay and teach me the zoology of #Ocelots. He is deeply intelligent to the point of sinister intrigue. His accent is a country club pour of Miles Davis meets Michael Saylor meets Liam Neeson. If this Nigerian Prince says Avalanche will change the world then it's indeed time to take out a third mortgage in Cray Paux right in time for Halloween. #GlitterLedger #Avax #AutomateMyPChainSupport the show

This final interview in our AI & Tech series is one of my faves. It isn't often I meet someone so decidedly pro-tech in the yoga space, so chatting with Ram Bhakt was a true breath of fresh air.KEY TAKEAWAYS*AI can undoubtedly help us with our businesses. Ram listed a whole lot of things AI can help with–marketing, emails, scheduling, and more. Which ones do you feel confident in implementing sooner rather than later?*Colleagues who are using AI are going to pass you by. This is undeniably true. If you consider our market saturated or competitive, you might want to consider exploring how AI can help you stand out in your business.*While AI yoga teachers are not prevalent now, they absolutely do exist. If you didn't catch that article from NPR on nursing home facilities using AI yoga teachers in Colorado, I will link that in the show notes. And what I want you to think about is how you will offer something different than those AI teachers.*Wearable AI and yoga is SUCH a good idea!! Is anyone doing this already? Dr. Steffany Moonaz, I am looking at you. Could we get Ora rings for everyone to measure biomarkers as they practice yoga from anywhere in the world? That could potentially have a huge impact on our research wing of the industry. *Our orgs could help us with some of this!! They could be building chatbots for us to help folks looking for resources about yoga. I am giving a solid side-eye to you, International Association of Yoga Therapists. But let's be honest, the org most likely to give us this is the American Yoga Council, the new kid on the block. So if you are listening, we want you to build us chatbots that help practitioners find their way to teachers, yoga therapists, and more. DM me, Andrew, and Scott–I could go on for a while on this. In fact, maybe I will do a final wrap-up episode and add more details. *Self-actualization in business and yoga is something we need to talk about. Because we need to be careful as sincere yoga practitioners AND business owners. The improvement of both of these requires a path of self-actualization. I feel like I have made this joke on the podcast, but certainly I have said it in talks and in person–when you run a yoga business, it feels like you cannot escape self-improvement. And sometimes I just want to eat chips and scroll TikTok. So it is worth building up some practices to give yourself a break. Yoga folks, as I have experienced them, are often intense people, and we need to make sure that we are balancing out this dual journey of self-discovery with some hobbies (yoga is not your hobby, babe) and relaxation.*Ram made a couple of comments on the over-intellectualization of yoga, and those folks who are deep sticklers for traditional yoga, and I want to mention that I have been, at one time, both of those things. For me, personally, some of that came from a place of feeling like I had learned all I needed to from yoga–a sure sign I hadn't learned nearly as much as I thought; and the fact that it feels good to think we are morally superior to other people. That is a trap in thinking that I see a lot in the West. If you want to think your way out of it, then go ahead and wrestle with the idea that you and I have the same job as anyone who teaches hot, Buti, goat yoga with wine chasers. I am gonna gently hold your hand and remind you we all have the same job. K, love you. Truly.RESOURCESWorking In Yoga WebsiteWorking In Yoga NewsletterTell Us A Story! The Tragically Hip Top Forty Countdown: Song 20 — Neil from Arroyo GrandeHey, it's jD, and this week I'm joined by a die-hard hockey fan and Hip convert who hails from California. Meet Neil from Arroyo Grande, the west coast wizard of late-night YouTube rabbit holes and deep-cut reverence.Neil didn't grow up with The Hip in his backyard. He had to find them — through hockey, through Trailer Park Boys, through a fascination with Canadian culture that led him down a road paved with Gretzky, Jericho, and yes… Gord.We talk about getting into the band via Yer Favourites, chasing context across albums and eras, and how discovering The Hip opened the door to new perspectives on art, identity, and memory. He shares what it's like being an American Hip fan (“Wait, they're not on the radio here?”), and how Phantom Power, Man Machine Poem, and some Gordon Edgar Downie solo magic helped him through hard times — and made the music his own. From WWE finishers to vapor trails to songs that hit like Shakespearean tragedy, this one's for the late bloomers, the lyric heads, and anyone who ever found themselves singing along to a song they didn't fully understand… until they really did.

Audio Transcript After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said to fulfill the Scripture,"I thirst." A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on ahissy branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished."He bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Over this past month, we've been examining God's Word tosee that the Son of God came to finish some things. And we've been trying to just answer one question. What is finished? Jesus made the declaration, "It is finished." Well, what is? Well, I guess to put itall in one word, salvation. The way of salvation, it's done. The work is done. And we've been spendingtime looking at different facets of salvation. First, we saw justification. The guilt is gone. You realize Jesus has taken your sin away. There are no grounds for punishment when you're in Christ. The guilt is gone. He's made you righteous. And then we saw reconciliation. The relationship isrestored. By nature, you are not God's friend. The Bible says by nature, we are enemies of God.And Jesus Christ came to restore the relationship with God. Pastor Taylor a couple of days agotalked about redemption. The price was paid. There was a literal price that was paid. You see, youhave sinned against God, and it wasn't as if God was like, "Oh, that's okay. Don't worry about it. I'mjust going to forget about it." No, no, no. As Pastor Taylor pointed out, you owe God an infinite debt. And God paid that Himself through the death of His Son. It is finished. You know, you think of those words on the cross, "It is finished." You know, that's not the only time that Jesus declares that something is finished. It's only the first time. Do you know the next time Jesus says it is finished? It is when God pours out judgment. Revelation 16-17, it's the last bold judgment. The book ofRevelation talks about there's seal trumpets and trumpet judgments and bold judgments. When thelast judgment of God is poured out, look at this, Revelation 16-17, the seventh angel poured outHis bowl into the air and a loud voice came out of the temple from the throne, saying, "It is done."That's the next time Jesus says it is finished. Today I want to talk about the last time He says it.Do you know the last time Jesus declares something is finished? As after He creates a new heaven and a new earth. Revelation chapter 21, I want you to turn there.Revelation chapter 21,Revelation chapter 21, look at verses 5 and 6. It says, "And He who was seated on the thronesaid, 'Behold, I am making all things new.'" Also, He said, "Write this down. For these wordsare trustworthy and true. And He said to me, 'It is done.'"Like, wait, wait, what is He talking about here? What is finished, the promiseof glorification? That is, the hope is real. The hope is real. We're going to talk about hope today.Because when we talk about hope, we use it in a different way than the Bible uses the word hope. When we say hope, what we mean is wish. You know what I mean? We say, "I hope it doesn't rain today."What are we saying? "I wish that it doesn't rain." Or we say, "I hope that the pirates win today."What are we saying? We're saying that our theology allows for miracles. But you see, that's not how the Bible uses the word hope.Biblically, church, listen, hope is the confident anticipation of receiving Jesus' promises.Biblically, hope, it's in the bag. It's happening. I'm just waiting for it to take place. But it'sgoing to happen. I'm not wondering if it's going to happen. I can't wait. I know it's going to.I'm just waiting for that to happen. That's biblical hope. That's the receipt that we hold on tothat says it's coming. I know that it's coming. And I can't wait for that day. That is biblical hope.See, that's what we're here to celebrate today.Actually, every Sunday we celebrate this. And actually, for the Christian, you celebrate this every day of your life. That Jesus Christ rose from the dead. We've been spending so much time talking about the fact that He died for our sins. Yes,that's true. But three days later, He rose from the dead to give us the promise of eternal life. And the Bible says that He went back to heaven. And you're like, "Well, what's He doing now? Doyou know what Jesus is doing right now? Like, right now, do you know what He's doing?"He told us in John chapter 14 what He would be doing. He says, "I go to prepare a place for you.Right now, Jesus Christ is building a place for His people in heaven."We're going to talk about heaven today, the place of our hope. Do you know what heaven's like?Sadly, there's so much confusion about heaven because people embrace ideas about heaven thatjust aren't in the Bible. I think for a lot of people, their ideas of heaven come more from aBugs Bunny cartoon than from what God actually said. There's just so much nonsense aboutthat people believe about heaven. It's just not true biblically. You know what number one is,by the way? The most nonsensical, wrong, false thing that people believe about heaven that's justabsolutely not true? Is that good people go to heaven. You have to be a good person to go toheaven. That's just bombarded onto us from society. Good people go to heaven. Good people...Well, that's not true. If that was true, heaven would be empty. We're going to talk more about thatin a bit. But no, you do not get to heaven by being a good person. But you know, even Christians, honestly, even Christians are clueless about heaven.Just grab your Christian, your average churchgoer, and say, "Well, what's heaven like?"You're going to get answers like, "Well, I'm thinking grandma's there."They're like, "Well, what are you doing heaven?" "Well, I guess you play a harp."And then you sit on clouds. And yeah, that's all I got. Like, well, maybe you've been gettingyour theology about heaven from Bugs Bunny or from a far-side cartoon. But I think many Christians aren't really excited about heaven because they don't know what theBible actually says about it. You know, we had a funeral last week for the oldest member of ourchurch. She was two weeks shy of 99. And she's having a good day. What a great celebration of her lifeand a celebration of the fulfillment of her faith. But I think a lot of people, even that we're sittingin that funeral, might not have been excited because they don't really know what she's experiencingin heaven. What is coming in the future in heaven? We need to educate ourselves, church.I mean, think about it this way. Imagine if I booked you a three-month vacation.Imagine that. If I booked you, I'm like, "You know what? You've been working hard. You know what?I'm going to get you the plane tickets. You know, you just bring your wife, jump at the airport, and get on the plane, three-month vacation on me." Would you want to know where you're going?Would you want to know what you'd be doing? What if you said, "Oh, thanks, Pastor Jeff. That wasreally nice of you. Where am I going? What am I doing? What if I said, "Don't worry about it. You'lllike it." No, I want to know where I'm going to be spending three months of my life. And I'm like,"Oh, it'll be nice. What am I going to be doing there? Fun stuff."Wouldn't you want more information of where you're going to be spending three months of your life?Okay, reminder, heaven is eternal. Wouldn't you like to know what it's going to be likefor eternity? If you do, you're in the right place this morning, because that is exactlywhat we're going to be seeing from God's Word. So on your outline, take some notes. The hope is real. The hope is real. The truth about heaven. The truth about heaven. Number one, write this down. Everything is new.Everything is new. Verses 1 and 2 in Revelation 21, "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." Stop there. New heaven and new earth. Why?Why do we need a new heaven and new earth? Well, because this is talking about what'shappening in the future. And at this point, the heaven and earth now, the one that you'resitting on right now, will be vaporized by God's glory according to 2 Peter 3, according to Revelation2011. He talks about this new Jerusalem. Like, what is new Jerusalem? What's the capital cityof the new heaven and the new earth? And John describes it as coming down from heaven onto thisnew earth. It's a fascinating study. You can really dig into it on your own. Just to give you a littleoverview. Verses 15 and 17 give us the dimensions. And by the way, these are literal measurements. The Bible is clear about that. But new Jerusalem is a massive city and it's shaped like a cube. And each wall is 1,380 miles long. And each wall is 216 feet thick. You're like,"Can you give me a frame of reference?" Yeah, absolutely, I can. If you were to take this newJerusalem and put it on our current earth, just drop it onto North America. If you were to dropit onto North America, it would go from Canada to the Gulf of America. It would go from the AtlanticOcean. I'm still trying to adjust to that. I'm sorry. It would go from the Atlantic Oceanto Colorado. That is the size of new Jerusalem. You're like, "Why do I need to know this? That is the place that Jesus is preparing for you right now."And this passage describes the final and eternal heaven. And over and over, he usesthe greatest word possible that he could use to describe anything. And it's the word "new."New. Look at verse 5. This is the best verse in the Bible. And I know somebody would say,"Well, actually, Pastor Jeff, it's all God's word." Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. But this is the bestverse in the Bible. It says, "And he who was seated on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all thingsnew.'" Look, that is awesome. And we can relate to that, can't we? Because there's nothinglike getting new stuff, right? Don't we love new things? New shoes? A new car? New jeans?A new phone? I'm pleased to announce that Pastor Taylor finally upgraded from his iPhone 8.Yeah, a little bonus celebration today. But wasn't it so exciting getting that new phone, Pastor Taylor? You know what? I thought it was bad until Jane Auer showed me. He has, what do you have an SE?Yeah, take good care of that, Jay. We're going to put that in the museum. So we love getting new stuff, right? Getting a new computer. Men, get that new fishing rod. Ladies, get the new purse. How about a new puppy? Oh, that's the best. But there's nothing likegetting new stuff. And you know, the Bible says in heaven everything is always new.So a little tip for you. If you're in Christ and if you are, you will end up in heaven. I just wantto encourage you, if you're trying to make friends, to not walk up to somebody in heaven and say, hey, what's new? Because they're going to say, you are an ego because I don't know if you got thememo, but everything here is new. I had people say to me sometimes like, you know, heaven soundskind of boring. Like, what are you talking about? That is a clueless statement. Boring.Everything is always going to be new.And if that's not a beautiful enough description with that little word,he gives us a word picture that really drives it home. He says, it's preparedas a bride adorned for her husband. Like Jesus, what kind of care and attention are you puttinginto creating this new heaven and earth, this new Jerusalem? You know, what kind ofmeticulous care is going into preparing this new city? The Bible says it's like a bridepreparing herself for her husband. That's a word picture that really impacts me.Because I've been to a lot of weddings. It's part of my job. I've been to a lot of weddings. And you know something that I've never, ever, ever seen in a wedding is this. Like, it's wedding dayand you know, I come to the front of the chapel or the woods or the barn or whatever we're havingand like, and like, oh, they have them everywhere now, but like, I'm up there with the guys, right? And here comes the bridesmaids and they take their place. Oh, it's the big moment. The music shifts, right? And you know what's next. Here comes the bride, right? You know what I've never seen? It's the doors fling open and there's the bridein a college hoodie.Wearing sweatpants and crocs.Crocs will not be in heaven, by the way. Well, the Bible doesn't say. I'm justthinking it's a safe assumption, but I've never seen her where she's got a near-terminal case of bedhead.I've never seen that ever. Do you know what I have seen though? Every time.A breathtakingly beautiful bride. How did she get that way? She prepared. Do you know how much time and effort and energy and moneyand detail and it goes in? She puts everything into making herself as beautiful and perfect as she canfor her husband. And that is the kind of attention and care that Jesus is putting into preparing this placefor his people. Wrap your brain around that. But the Bible says in heaven, everything is new.Oh, it gets even better than that. Because number two, write this down, every day is in God's presence.Everything is new and every day is in God's presence. Look at verse three. Verse three. He says, "And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Behold, the dwelling place of God is withman. He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will be with them as theirGod.'" Every day is in God's presence.Don't you wish that you lived at the time that Jesus lived? Wouldn't it have just been absolutelyamazing to watch Jesus, like to sit down with Him, to hear Him teach, to watch Him heal,to watch Him feed the thousands with the little kids lunch? Wouldn't that have just been awesometo personally be in the presence of Jesus Christ?Well, I got good news for you. In heaven, you're going to get that, like every single day.Because according to verse three, we're always in God's presence. You see, that's good news, my friends, because I think if we're honest, sometimes God seems distantright now. I mean, He's not, right? He's not distant. But can we just be honest in church for a second and say sometimes it feels like He is?You know, we go through trials. We're hurting. Maybe you've been betrayed.Disappointed. You're just worn out. And you're like, "God, where are you?"Seems like I need you the most right now. You seem absent. Where are you?Well, never again will God seem distant. The Bible says He is going to tabernacle with His people. He is going to pitch a tentin unprecedented, perfect fellowship in the midst of His people. Every day of heavenis being in the presence of God. It's the truth about heaven. Everything's new.Every day is in God's presence. In number three, everything that hurts is gone.Everything that hurts is gone. Look at verse four."He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more. Neither shall there bemourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.No mourning, no crying and no pain." Do you know what that means? That means no a lot of other things. That means no depression. That means no cancer. That means no diabetes. That means no organ failure. That means no autism. That means no wheelchairs. That means no mental health problems. That means no dentist appointments.I see somebody rejoicing in the back greatly over that. But I get to tell you in the first service, there was a group of dentists sittingright about where the Zentcos are right now. I told them, "Look, we're going to be out of a job in heaven.Nobody's going to need to hear about Jesus from me. Nobody's going to need their teeth fixed by them."There's no more tears. There's no more death. There's no more goodbyes.Every bit of pain and heartache and discouragement. Never again. Never. Everything that hurts is gone.People ask, "Well, will I remember the failures of my life on earth?"Because I would think if I could remember my failures of my life on earth, that, boy, there'd be some tears over that in heaven. Will I remember the failures of this life?I don't know. But I do know this for a fact. That if you do remember the failures of this life, it's not going to bother you.Because there's no more mourning or pain. I'm sure about that. And you can get to this point, you're like, "Really?" Hang on a second. This sounds just a little too fantastic. Really? Well, look at verse 5 again."And he who was seated on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new.'Also, he said, 'Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.'"Oh, everything is made new. Everything stays new. And you're like, "Is that really true?"Jesus says here, "Write this down. You write this down. You take this to the bank. You build your life on this, man. This is trustworthy and true."Listen, this isn't fantasy stuff. This isn't like fairy tale stuff that we say toplacate children when grandma passes away.Jesus says this is real. This is trustworthy and true."Every hurt is forever behind you." Everything that hurts is gone. Number four,oh, it gets even better. I know you don't think it can, but check this out.Number four, everything is yours. Everything is yours.Look at verse 6, "And he said to me, 'It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, to the thirsty. I will give from the spring of the water of lifewithout payments.'" Who are the thirsty? Who are the thirsty? I hope you are.Thirsty refers to people who realize their spiritual need and genuinely thirst for God.Heaven is for people who know they need Jesus Christ and they receive Jesus Christ and they loveJesus Christ. That's what he's talking about here. You see, water biblically is a symbol offulfillment. It's a symbol of satisfaction. "I was thirsty in a need. Now from the living water,I have been satisfied." That's what water is talking about. That's what the Bible is talkingabout when it talks about water. It's satisfaction. It's great news. That means heaven is not goingto be lacking anything that would add to your satisfaction. You know that? That means you'renot going to be walking around heaven and say, "You know what? This place is pretty good, butI have a few ideas that would make it a little better."You're going to be absolutely, totally, perfectly satisfied in heaven. And this, this is your heritage. Look at verse 7. He says, "The one who conquerswill have this heritage and I will be his God and he will be my Son."We talked about this with justification. We don't live in fear of God as judge. If you're in Christ, that is. You're not afraid of God as judge. You live in the freedom of God as Father. That He adopted us as His children. But being a child has implications for the future.Like what do you mean? What I mean is, if you're a child of God, you receive an inheritance.Look at Romans chapter 8 here.Romans 8 says, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. And ifchildren, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with Himin order that we may also be glorified with Him."You see, Paul wrote this to the Romans and Roman adoption was very interesting. I was readingabout it this past week. Do you know in Roman culture adopted children actually received greaterhonor than naturally born children in the home? Like if a couple has natural children, it's like, well, you just came into the world the regular way. But if you adopted someone, it was, ah, you, though on the other hand, you were chosen to be a part of this family. But there's something elseinteresting about Roman children, including the adopted children, by the way, that they allreceived an equal share of the inheritance. You're like, good for the Romans. What does that haveto do with me? Here's what this has to do with you. Look at this. We are fellow heirs with Christ.Do you know what that means? I can tell some of you aren't very excited about that. So we're goingto walk through this together. You are fellow heirs with Christ. Do you know what that means? That means you will receive the same inheritance that Jesus receives. So what does Jesus own? Everything. So what do you stand to inherit? Everything.Everything. You're like, wait, wait, wait, wait, hang on a second there, Pastor Jeff. You was talking about the new heavens earlier. Do you mean I'm going to inherit the new heavens?Everything. And if you're like, oh, well, he's creating the new earth. Do you mean I'm going toinherit that new earth too? That's going to belong to me? Everything. And you're like, well, thatgiant city that you was talking about, am I going to inherit that too? Is that going to belong to me?Like, look, I'll do respect. What part of everything do you not understand? Everything will belong to you.But do you know the greatest thing that you're going to inherit? Is God Himself? Do you see that in verse 7? He says, "I will be His God." Oh, no, let's not gloss over thatbecause that's like the Levites in the Old Testament. Remember, Israel was told, you know, that they were going to receive an inheritance in the Promised Land. But you got like Deuteronomy 18-2.The Levites did not get an inheritance like the other tribes of Israel. They were toldthat God is their inheritance. And if you get God, you get everything. If you're a fellow heir with Christ, that means someday everything is yours. And finally, number five, truth about heaven, everything's new.Every day's in God's presence. Everything that hurts is gone and everything is yours. But we do have to say this because it's in the text. Everyone is not going. Now look, you know, it'd be real easy to come into Easter service and we're all wearing ourspiffy clothes and the music is fantastic and it would be so easy to get caught up in this passageand get excited about a heaven that some of you aren't going to see.Look at verse eight. John says, "But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable,as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur," which is the second death.See this list? These are people that love their sin more than they love Jesus. But I could ask you, are you on that list?Is there anything here that characterizes you?Understanding that murder means hateful and sexually immoral means lustfuland immoral. Are you there? You know the one that always sticks out to me in this list is the first one, cowardly. What does that mean? It's not saying, being afraid of stuff is a sin, like in the sense ofI'm afraid to go camping because I'm afraid of bears and snakes. And that's not what that's talking about at all. It's talking about being afraid to follow JesusChrist because there is a cost. And what will my friends think? And what am I going to have to giveup? And refusal to follow Christ, God says, "You're a coward." You mean He bought your way to heavenwith the blood of His Son? And you're too afraid to receive Him because of what your goofy friendsmight think. Because of what sinful thing you might have to give up. You're a coward. And that's not my opinion. That's God's opinion. Well, I guess it is mine if it's God's.But He said it.You think following Christ is easy? You think it's easy to trust God?Do you think it's easy to say no to sin? Do you think it's easy to say yes to serving Christwhen it's inconvenient or difficult or harder than we thought it was going to be?This ain't for cowards, okay? All of the items on this list characterize people who have never repented. They've never receivedChrist. And these are just evidences. He's saying that this is what they lived like. And I have to ask you, if you took an honest inward look at yourself, would you say that my life isgenerally characterized by a love for Jesus Christ? Or would you say my life is generallycharacterized by a love of my sin, myself, my way? Which one is it for you?Because if it's the latter, then none of these promises about heaven, none of this hope is for you.If I can have the worship team join us back up on the platform here.It is finished. It is finished. Someday, you're going to hear Jesus say those words again. For some of you, you're going to be horrified to hear him say it when he brings judgment. And for some of you, you will rejoice when you hear him say itbecause he's giving you everything, the hope of heaven. It is finished. Today, today, we hear those words from the cross. So if you have received Jesus Christ, your sin has been taken away. If you have received JesusChrist, he rose from the dead to give you eternal life. And if you have received Jesus Christ, you do not need to wait for heaven to rejoice in him. So let's stand and let's celebrate himfor who he is and all that he's done. Let's rejoice in the victory of Jesus Christ. Small Group DiscussionRead Romans 8:16-17, Revelation 21:1-8What was your big take-away from this passage / message? What are some wrong ideas about heaven that even many Christians believe? What is an aspect of heaven covered in Revelation 21 that was new or surprising to you? What does it mean that we are co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16-17)? The sefer Ki Ata Imadi writes, a man came over to him one year a few days after Purim with a complaint. He said he had some issues with one of his children and after he learned all about the segulot of the day of Purim, he spent hours in heartfelt tefila , both on Ta'anit Esther and on Purim. He shed tears and begged Hashem to fix the problems with his child. Now, a few days later, he didn't see any change. "If Hashem answers everyone who asks Him on Purim, why wasn't I answered?" he asked. The rabbi thought about it and then told him, "You used the day of Purim properly. You prayed the way you are supposed to. You believed Hashem was going to help. There is no question that you were helped, but that doesn't mean you will necessarily see the results immediately." The rabbi gave him a mashal . When a child tells his father on the night of the Seder, "I'll give you the afikoman for a bicycle," and the father agrees, that doesn't mean the child is going to have a bicycle the next day. The father might feel that waiting a few months until the summer would be more beneficial for his child to have the bike then. The child accomplished on the night of the Seder, but it doesn't necessarily mean he's going to see the immediate results of that accomplishment. So, too, a person's tefillah on Purim for sure accomplished, but that doesn't mean that he'll necessarily see those results right away. The wheels might be in motion, things are happening behind the scenes, we're just not able to see them. There are so many things which happen that we can't see. Whenever we do a mitzvah or learn a word of Torah, so much goes on in the spiritual realms. Our souls become purified and blessings come down from Shamayim . We don't know which blessings stem from which mitzvah. We don't see when those blessings are being produced, but we know mitzvot produce goodness. We trust that Hashem knows how to apply them the way He sees fit. There are individuals with so much emunah. They know when they act l'shem Shamayim Hashem is proud of them and brings blessing to their efforts. They are so confident about it that they are even willing to act upon that emunah. Rabbi Noach Weinberg, z"l , the founder of Aish HaTorah, once met a Jew at the Kotel who was very distanced from Torah and mitzvot. He spoke to him for a while and then he invited him to his home to eat. The young man was very impressed with what the Rabbi was saying and he actually agreed to come learn in his yeshiva for some time. The boy was very smart and quickly advanced in his learning. After two solid weeks there, he told the Rabbi, "Thank you very much, butI have to leave now." The Rabbi asked why, since he was doing so well. The young man said, "I'm a master chess player and I have to go to play in the World Chess Championship that is being held in America." The Rabbi knew once this boy left he was never returning. He felt bad for him, for his neshama , not to mention that he had so much potential. At that moment, Rabbi Weinberg made a tefila to Hashem to please put the words in his mouth that could convince this boy to stay. Then the Rabbi got an idea. He told the boy, "Before you go, let me make you a deal. I will play you one game of chess. If you win the game, I'll pay for your flight to America. But if I win, then you agree to stay here and learn more." The boy happily agreed and shook the Rabbi's hand on it. They sat and played and, astonishingly, the Rabbi beat this world expert in chess. The boy had no choice but to stay and, baruch Hashem, he eventually grew to become a true ben Torah . Some months after that, the boy asked the Rabbi a question. He said, "I agreed to the chess game because I was confident I would beat you, but please tell me, what were you thinking? How could you make a deal like that, knowing how good I was?" The Rabbi replied, "I wanted more than anything for you to continue your growth in Torah and mitzvot and get closer to Hashem. I had no ulterior motives. I was pure. So I prayed to Hashem to help me and I believe that He put that thought in my brain to offer you the chess match. I knew when someone is l'shem Shamayim , Hashem gives them extraordinary help. That having been said, I relied on Hashem to move my fingers and tell me where to put the pieces so I could defeat you. And that's what happened." Hashem helps us all the time. We are not always able to see it clearly. We should never second guess our emunah. Things are happening behind the scenes. Hashem is answering our tefilot and He is leading us in the directions that we need to go in.
