This week we are joined by new runner, Charonne Ganiere, President, Executive Director, and Founder of OneHope27, a non-profit that provides hope and support to those involved in foster care. Charonne "walks the walk", as she is not only an adopted mother of 3 children (along with 2 biological children), but she is also a foster parent herself (watch her and her family on the 88NINE - Radio Milwaukee documentary "At the Threshold"). I sat down w the wonderful Ayisha Jaffer, who was host of the 414 Live Variety Hour at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee for about a year. She's also a DJ, vocalist for garage punk band Skux, and has worked some wildly interesting jobs in New Zealand and Alaska. This week must be birthday week on The Platform as Kenny celebrates his today and our guest Wednesday guest Cell celebrates his then! Back to Kenny, he's a true OG in not only the DJ game, but music as a whole. He's been doing this since 1992. Throughout everything he's been open format minded, but his heart belongs to house music. Today's set is special, simply because it reminds him of the days he used to run the club scene in Milwaukee. His journey in the scene began at a spot called PURE on Wisconsin Ave...since that residency he's had the honor of playing at several spots such as Flybar/Texture, Eve/720, Tangerine, Kenadee's, Notte, Suite, Casablanca and more. The 10 plus years in the club scene slowed down for him around 2015-16. During that slow down he focused his energy on the festival scene and radio. He's currently an on-air DJ, producer and manager at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee. He produces a mix show called 'In The Mix' where he host DJ's from the city and abroad. About a year and a half after coming on the podcast to discuss local food trends, longtime Milwaukee Magazine dining critic Ann Christenson, and 88Nine Radio Milwaukee on-air personality and accomplished amateur cook Tarik Moody join host Tyler Maas to revisit some familiar topics. Like last time, they discuss some exciting new developments in local dining, under-sung establishments, annoying fads/terms, and the city's struggle to change its edible identity while still holding to its celebrated traditions. With an on-air resume that spans more than 30 years, few (if any) radio personalities in Milwaukee have witnessed more changes firsthand than Steve Palec. The longtime host of WKLH's "Rock N' Roll Roots" joined 88Nine Radio Milwaukee program director/DJ Jordan Lee and Milwaukee Record's Tyler Maas to examine the state of radio. In an 88Nine side studio, the three hosts—with 40 combined years of radio experience…and, uh, 13 months of podcasting—delved into the current climate of both commercial and listener-supported stations, and explained why specialization is key to maintaining a following in a rapidly changing industry.
