In this episode, I'm tackling a common source of confusion in the yoga industry: when teaching methods get mistaken for anatomical/movement principles. Many yoga teachers hear cues or “rules” about certain poses — things like “don't put your foot on the side of your knee in Tree Pose” or “you shouldn't square your hips in Warrior 1 because that forces the hips into an uncomfortable position.” But often these statements aren't well grounded in anatomy or movement science. Instead, they reflect a particular teacher's style, preference, or interpretation of how a pose should be taught. Or, they might simply reflect a lack of anatomical knowledge on the part of the teacher. In this episode, I share why it's important to distinguish between evidence-based anatomy principles and teaching methodology, and why asking “why?” is one of the most powerful tools a teacher can use when evaluating cues and alignment advice. If you've ever heard conflicting guidance about poses and wondered what's actually true, this episode will help you think about anatomy, movement, and cueing with more clarity and confidence. In the episode, I also speak about how I worked with a yoga teacher to help her get clear on how she wants to teach. This happened inside the Accelerator Program. In this episode of Chaos to Clarity, Eric Weiss sits down with Misti Cain, the Managing Director of Techstars San Diego powered by SDSU, to unpack what makes this accelerator one of the most selective and impactful pre-seed programs in the world. With more than 1,300 applicants and only six companies selected, Techstars San Diego represents the highest caliber of early-stage founders building across industries, technologies, and geographies. Misti shares why this year's cohort is different. These founders aren't just experimenting. They're arriving with deep domain expertise, early traction, paying customers, and bold visions that span everything from biotech document automation to haptic wearables for the blind to AI compliance for regulated industries. The diversity of ideas is matched only by the diversity of founders — spanning San Diego, Mexico, Canada, Paris, New York, Florida, and more. A major advantage of the program comes from the partnership between Techstars and San Diego State University. Startups gain access to engineering support, prototyping labs, specialized testing, interns, and warm introductions to key university resources. Misti explains why this ecosystem collaboration creates an environment where founders can achieve more in 90 days than most can do in a year. The conversation also explores Misti's personal journey: from digital marketing strategist, to startup consultant, to award-winning Techstars mentor, to investor, and now Managing Director. Her story highlights the importance of curiosity, lifelong learning, and the power of giving first — a philosophy that sits at the heart of the Techstars culture. Eric and Misti close by zooming out to discuss the San Diego startup ecosystem, why it offers a uniquely collaborative environment, and why founders from all over the world are beginning to choose San Diego as their home base. This episode is a deep dive into community, innovation, leadership, and what it truly takes to build a successful company. Space startups today look a lot like the internet in 1995 – early, chaotic, and packed with upside for the founders brave enough to build in the void. With VCs going all in on space, Techstars betting big on the category, and an entire industry quietly taking over venture capital, this is a moment founders can't ignore. In this episode of Demo Day, Techstars Space Managing Director Gabriel Schlumberger breaks down why “SPACE IS THE FUTURE” is more than a catchy thumbnail – it's an actual investing thesis. Gabriel explains how launch costs, new business models, and a surge of satellites are turning space into one of the most important frontier markets for startups and venture capital.Gabriel shares his journey from Pixar, Blue Sky, and Disney to becoming a founder himself, building an FDA‑regulated glasses startup for kids in the middle of a global pandemic, and then stepping into his role at Techstars Space. That experience across creative studios, corporate innovation, and true zero‑to‑one startup chaos shapes how he now evaluates founders and why he's so bullish on space companies. You'll learn:Why space today feels like the internet did in 1995, and what that means for startup timing and upside. How Techstars is betting big on space through its accelerator with NASA JPL and the U.S. Space Force. The trait Gabriel calls “pathological curiosity” and why it separates the best founders and VCs.What actually happens inside Techstars: mentor weeks, “give first” culture, and how a few teams get picked from hundreds of applicants.A real founder story: running a hardware and medical device startup through COVID, fundraising, manufacturing, and brutal unknowns.Whether you're a founder thinking about space, a SaaS builder curious about frontier markets, or an investor trying to understand the industry quietly taking over VC, this episode is a masterclass in how the next decade of startups will be built.

Yoga teachers use lots of common phrases when they talk about how things are going with their classes. I know because over the years, I've talked to hundreds of teachers and am always listening to their word choice. It's part of what I do as a coach and it's always interesting to me how they classify their challenges and struggles using similar phrasing. You'll have to listen to the episode to find out more about this but in this episode, I not only give you the clues, I share the process that will allow you to move past limiting beliefs, as expressed by your word choice and instead unleash your most confident, empowered yoga teacher. Episode Summary: In this solo episode of The Scalable Law Podcast, I'm getting real with you about what happens after you cross the million-dollar revenue mark in your firm. Here's the truth: scaling to seven figures doesn't guarantee freedom — in fact, it often brings new layers of complexity, overwhelm, and even burnout. As a law firm owner who's been through it all and helped countless others navigate this transition, I'm here to pull back the curtain on the five hard truths that most people don't talk about. We'll unpack everything from poor team structure and lack of data visibility, to the trap of being stuck in the business rather than leading on the business. If you've been feeling stretched too thin, unsure of your role, or like your firm is running you — not the other way around — this episode is going to hit home. More importantly, I'll show you the practical steps you can take to move from exhaustion to empowerment. Takeaways: Freedom doesn't come from revenue — it comes from structure, leadership, and letting go. Your team can't perform without clarity: defined roles, KPIs, and accountability are essential. Scaling without knowing your numbers is gambling with your business. No space = no strategy — if you want to lead, you need to carve out time to think. You must evolve your role from technician to CEO to avoid burnout and resentment. Scaling smart means building systems that allow your business to grow without you doing it all. Everything I share is drawn from real-life experience and the work I do inside the Accelerator program, helping seven-figure law firms become streamlined, profitable, and owner-independent.Apply for the Accelerator Program. If you've ever wanted to break into real estate without riding the Wall Street roller coaster—or wondered how the heck people are making serious returns through tax sales—then you must listen to this eye-opening convo with Brian Seidensticker.Brian reveals how he's helped investors fund over $42 million in distressed properties through his platform Tax Sale Resources, and how anyone (yes, even you!) can tap into overlooked tax lien and deed opportunities hiding in plain sight. We're talking off-market gold here—with the data, tools, and even the capital to back it all up.But this isn't just about tax sales—it's about why the system is broken, where the banks are falling short, and how that creates massive upside for savvy entrepreneurs willing to learn and leap.
In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain and sharing why the Scalable Law Podcast has been quiet for the past five months. From surprise staff resignations to jumping back into legal files myself, 2025 started off with more chaos than calm. I had to step into my law firm, Collective Family Law, in a much bigger way than planned—which reminded me exactly why I built a scalable business in the first place. Between rebuilding the team, preparing for LawBizCon, and onboarding new Accelerator members, it's been a huge start to the year. But I'm back now, and ready to refocus on the podcast, continue supporting law firm owners, and share what's next for Scalable Law. In This Episode, I Cover: - Why I had to jump back into fee-earning work in early 2025- The challenges of retaining legal talent in the current climate- How I successfully rebuilt my team at Collective Family Law- What it really takes to run LawBizCon—and what made this year so rewarding- What's ahead: our upcoming Bali Content Retreat and new Accelerator intake Programs I Mention: Scalable Business Lounge: For law firm owners generating $10K–$60K/month, focused on cash flow, marketing, and client acquisition. Accelerator Program: For firms generating $70K+/month and ready to systemise, scale their teams, and step into the CEO seat. Doors reopen in July. Coming Soon: In the next episode, I'll dive into how to retain amazing legal talent in 2025—spoiler alert: posting job ads doesn't work. I'll share what I actually do. Resources:

Lex chats with Jamie Burke - founder of Outlier Ventures, about the current state and future of Web3, decentralized finance, and the metaverse. Jamie highlights Outlier Ventures' impressive growth, with a portfolio of around 400 startups, and discusses successful projects like IOTA and Fetch.ai. The conversation delves into the open metaverse, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure and middleware in blending physical and digital realities. Jamie also explores the transformative role of AI in the metaverse and offers practical advice for entrepreneurs navigating this rapidly evolving landscape. Notable discussion points: 1.The “Post-Web” Is an Intent-Led Internet: Jamie Burke outlines a shift from today's attention-based web to an intent-driven internet, powered by AI agents, Web3 infrastructure, and DePIN. In this model, agents act on user intent, radically streamlining interactions and replacing much of today's web interface. 2. Web3 Will Be Run by Machines, Not People: Burke predicts that autonomous agents—not humans—will become the primary users of blockchains, making crypto “machine money.” As a result, products, brands, and processes matter less, while incentive systems and on-chain automation take center stage. 3. Founders Must Embrace Systems Thinking: In the Post-Web era, survival depends on designing self-optimizing systems, not just building products. Burke stresses that token engineering, incentive design, and value flow mapping will define the next generation of durable startups. MENTIONED IN THE CONVERSATION Topics: Web3, decentralized finance, metaverse, Open metaverse, Post web, Outlier Ventures, IOTA, Fetch.ai, accelerator program, AI, artificial intelligence, Agentic AI, agents, Web3, post-web, digital economy, blockchain technology ABOUT THE FINTECH BLUEPRINT

Why do we expect to be great business owners without any training at all? We don't think that way about our clinical skills. In fact, we all spent 7+ years in school, countless clinical con-ed hours and often hundreds of thousands of dollars to become good clinicians. And yet, most of us have never invested anything in ourselves as business owners. Yet we expect to have immediate success - no wonder 90% of us aren't happy with what we're making financially in business! There's a 'compound interest' in becoming a better business owner. A small improvement or investment now grows and grows over the years and decades we own our practice. If we develop a front desk script now, we might use it for thousands of patients. Our call logs, budget templates, 'last 5' for clinical buy-in - all of these skills or habits will last for years. These investments in the business will pay off over the life of your practice. Yet we don't approach business with the same dedication we do our clinical practice. As we said in a recent podcast 'sode, "If we invested 1% of the time and money in business ownership that we did to become great clinicians, 90% of us wouldn't be unhappy with what we make in the practice!Business Accelerator Program - Closes Friday!Registration for the January Cohort of the Accelerator Program closes on Friday (12/20)!! If you aren't feeling satisfied with your income, you aren't alone. More than 9 in 10 business owners say they aren't happy with what they are making from the business.....but why? That's what today's 'sode is all about. We may have heard how 'easy' it is. Or think everyone is successful because that's what we see online. But we're going to lay out the truth for you when it comes to business finance!1) Expectations - A lot of business owners 'just do the math'. If they saw the same number of patients they were seeing elsewhere, but kept all the money....not taking into account the challenges of marketing, administration, and fulfillment. They don't know their minimums and keep moving goalposts.2) Such Hard Work - Many business owners feel like what they make isn't commensurate with the work, stress and hours they are putting into the practice.3) Aren't Making Money - Some business owners really are struggling with revenue. The phones aren't ringing, they aren't able to convert the leads they get, and the patients who do come in tend to drop off or space our visits.4) They Aren't Getting Help! - These numbers change dramatically for those getting help! We've all spent multiple years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to become excellent clinically, but haven't invested in ourselves as business owners.Business Accelerator Program - Now Open!Registration for the January Cohort of the Accelerator Program is now open!
