We hear about him working in New Zealand as a youngster and then his time at Bankhead Angus when they were the top of their game. Rich not only won Smithfield on his first visit but was the first to win it with a Limousin sired beast. Now semi-retired he still keeps his hand in, helping the McKechnie family with Highland cattle. His brother Friar also gets a mention.

Here's another chance to hear my Big Interview with Ryan Fraser from season four. When I caught up with my fellow Aberdonian, life was a beach under Eddie Howe at Bournemouth. Ryan has since moved on to Newcastle United, and perhaps it was fated that Eddie has ended up at St James' Park, too. We heard how Eddie made his charges better players – and men, and how team-bonding incorporated everything from golf to paddle boarding.Ryan is an incredibly versatile player and is able to analyse the beautiful game with great clarity. He told us about some of his best performances in a Cherries jersey, including defensive heroics against Eden Hazard and the towering Peter Crouch. We return to podcasting as Lesley recuperates from her recent hip replacement and I venture down the Tay coast to record this week's episode. Stuck at home Lesley tuned into "Call Kaye",normally a cue to hurl the wireless oot the windae, but the discussion on the use of medicinal cannabis meant a stay of execution for the radio and food for thought for us. You'd think at my age and with my experience nothing would shock me about the behaviour of politicians but David Davis's brass neck on the 50 odd Brexit impact assessments leaves me stunned. As Finland's celebrates 100 years of its independence  Lesley reflects on Finland's journey to become a world leader in health, education, technology and happiness and what Scotland can learn from our northern neighbours. All of the above plus much more including , a radical Aberdonian bus driver, bats, sea eagles, eccentric Fifers and my mentioning the baby box- as Lesley reminds me gently- yet again.

As a born-and-bred Aberdonian, Sir Alex Ferguson had a huge influence on my life. He revolutionised my hometown team in the 1980s through strategic management and sheer force of will. He made things seem possible. And it would be impossible to do a football podcast without talking about the legendary Scot. The contributions from Jamie Carragher and Kevin Bridges reveal a different side of Fergie: his forensic memory, his humour, his deep love of the beautiful game. David Moyes and Gordon Strachan give an insight into the force of nature which was Ferguson in his younger days. To Strachan, the former Manchester United manager remains the best sports psychologist in the world. Then, Darren Fletcher' s testimony takes us into the dressing room on a matchday. If you want to know what a Fergie teamtalk is like, listen to the end. Enjoy! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
