This week on The Joy of Football, Martin Tyler and Neil Barnett relive some of the greatest FA Cup memories ever, from iconic commentary moments to unforgettable stories from inside the stadiums themselves. Martin reflects on the matches, atmospheres, and moments that defined his love for the competition, before the conversation turns to one of football's biggest modern debates: would VAR have ruined “AGUEROOOO”? The discussion opens up a fascinating look at how technology has changed football drama forever. The pair also debate whether Arsenal F.C. can become the club that “saves football” from the rise of state-funded ownership, while there's praise for the resurgence of Manchester United F.C. and the brilliance of Bruno Fernandes. Elsewhere, Neil explains why Rio Ngumoha reminded him of Eden Hazard, Neil shares the story of going undercover in the Spurs end, and the episode finishes with more brilliant FA Cup nostalgia and football storytelling from one of the most iconic voices in the game.

On this episode, 10 years on from one of the most explosive nights in Premier League history, we revisit the Battle of the Bridge — the game that ended Tottenham's title hopes and summed up Chelsea's role as football's ultimate disruptors. From the chaos on the pitch to the infamous flashpoints and Eden Hazard's iconic equaliser, we relive a night that felt more like a grudge match than a title decider. We also explore the wider impact of that game — how it shaped Tottenham's mentality, reinforced Chelsea's edge in big moments, and became a defining chapter in Premier League rivalry history. #989 | Ed and Jamie discuss a Premier League settlement with Chelsea over £47 million worth of undisclosed, off-book payments to players, agents and third parties from 20011–2018, involving names including Samuel Eto'o, Eden Hazard and David Luiz. The £10m fine and suspended transfer/youth-player bans show inconsistent rule enforcement versus PSR points deductions for clubs like Everton and could weaken the Premier League's position in Manchester City's case, while signalling cooperation and ownership change can reduce sporting sanctions. It's incredibly lenient. There's an examination of how a Gulf-wide conflict has driven crude oil from about $65 to ~$105, pressuring INEOS' thin-margin, highly leveraged petrochemicals business, potentially delaying or complicating refinancing at INEOS and United amid reduced prospects of Fed interest rate cuts. Tottenham wankelde, verloor controle. Tottenham was verslagen.
