Scotland and Wales could secure World Cup spots with victory on Tuesday night - will they, and what would it mean?Former Scottish international James McFadden joins Jonathan Northcroft, Chief Football Writer at the Sunday Times, and Eilidh Barbour to ponder what's required for Steve Clarke to lead the Tartan Army to a first World Cup for 28 years.Scotland's task is simple: defeat Denmark at Hampden Park. Toke Theilade joins the show to give the Danish perspective, with an illness in the camp contributing to a shock draw with Belarus. As for Wales, things are less straight-forward. For Scotland the men's Euros are over. We try and go beyond the football itself and look at the coverage of Scotland's games ,and if this latest set of defeats at a major competition tells us anything about our Scottish psyche. If the team lost the Tartan Army definitely won the hearts of the German people. What is so special about Scottish fans?It was the turn of the Scottish Tories to launch its manifesto on Monday. Rishi Sunak dutifully took a break from Gamblegate( more of this later) to pop up and offer his support to Douglas Ross. Two soon to be departed leaders? We go over it, so you can avoid the pain.Ross also appeared on Good Morning Scotland and Gary Robertson grilled him on devolution, reserved issues, and the democratic road to indy ref2.Yet another manifesto launch. This time the SNP's Climate and Just Transition. John Swinney has made a direct plea to Sir Keir Starmer to revisit and reinstate Labour's £28 billion green investment spending plan. Has the SNP managed to square that circle of protecting jobs while tackling climate change?Meanwhile Anas Sarwar struggled to explain what Great British Energy was and how it would cut bills and create jobs. However we finally had confirmation that it wouldn't generate energy but would be a vehicle seeking to secure private investment. But, and it's a big but, that question over the inefficiency over the National Grid and where and how it could be upgraded to meet Labour's 2030 Net Zero target remains. We discuss.Hard on the heels of his D Day "gaffe" Sunak dithered, delayed, then finally after days of prevarication withdrew support for two Tory candidates who apparently used inside information to place winning bets on the General Election date. Is this symbolic of the end of days for both Sunak and the Tories?Everybody to Kenmure Street Felipe Bustos Sierra (director) is a BAFTA-winning Chilean-Belgian filmmaker based in Scotland, living just a few minutes away from Kenmure Street when the protest against the Home Office detention of two local asylum seekers began. His first feature "Nae Pasaran" (2018) uncovered the true impact of the solidarity of Scottish factory workers for victims of Pinochet's military coup in Chile. As a result of the film's research, the men involved received recognition from the Chilean government and a public monument was erected to commemorate their gesture 40 years later. The film became, on release, the most successful Scottish documentary in UK cinemas. It was nominated for Best Documentary at the BIFA 2019 and won Best Feature Film at the BAFTA Scotland Awards 2018.Here's the link to the Crowdfunder https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/debasers/everybody-to-kenmure-streetFacebook pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61560781820130 ★ Support this podcast ★

Jule, you got this!

Hello Rank Squad! It's time to get stuck into this summer's international football, so we're kicking things off ahead of the Euros with less than 10 days to go until the first game gets underway. We start with Group A, which include hosts Germany, the Tartan Army of Scotland, wily old Switzerland, and dark horses Hungary. Then it's onwards in Part Two to discuss holders Italy, perennial challengers Spain, tournament specialists Croatia, and underdogs Albania. We talk each team's chances of progression and outright victory, as well as the players upon which their dreams will rise and fall, and the managers trying to guide their nations to glory. The second episode of the series, discussing Groups C and D, will drop on Thursday morning; and then on Friday we'll have the lowdown on Groups E and F. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

We're still in Glasgow, and this is the big one, the Queen Stage of the Tour d'Écosse with seven current Scottish Football League grounds on the route, plus a couple of wild cards. Lionel and Simon drop in on Cathkin Park, the so-called ‘ghost ground' and former home to the long defunct Third Lanark club. There are stops at Hampden Park, home of the Tartan Army, Parkhead – or Paradise to give it another name – Cumbernauld and Airdrie, the club with two second names Albion Rovers, Hamilton Academical and Motherwell. We also explore the sectarian divide which splits the city with Kenny Pryde. The eyes of the cycling world will be on Glasgow, and other parts of the country as Scotland takes centre stage in August 2023 as hosts of the UCI World Championships. The first ‘Super Worlds' as Lionel calls it, will see 190 rainbow jerseys awarded across multiple cycling disciplines. But what will the World Championships mean for the future of Scottish Cycling?
