This is the 8th bonus episode of The Podgoblin's Hat, with Nina and Dave. You can find it on it's own feed wherever you get your podcasts. Our guest Ali Baker is a researcher in children's literature with a particular interest in children's voice and children's rights, so it's no surprise she chose to come on and talk to us about The Invisible Child! Ali makes a strong case for Bjork as a Spirit of Little My and reminisces about finding the Moomins in her local library as a kid. We situate the Moomins as a type of fantasy, and Ali recommend's Dr Farah Mendlesohn's Rhetorics of Fantasy. We talk about the mixed up class elements of the Moomin family, and go on a long tangent about femme-shaming (#JusticeForTheSnorkMaiden), with reference to Tamora Pierce's Protector of the Small quartet. Ali's article about the the sensitivity edit's to Roald Dahl's work is here. Her Spirit of the Moomin's is Bjork's album Vespertine, and her Spirit of the Podgoblin's Hat is her podcast Fantasy Book Swap.

It's finally here, it's our Greek myth episode! We kick it all off with Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, a titan of early 2000s kids' fantasy that we were a smidge too old for at the time that it came out. We referred to it too when we did our School Stories special if you want to hear more about that kind of stuff. We also compare it to City of the Plague God by Sarwat Chadda which we talked about on an episode of Fantasy Book Swap with Ali Baker. Then, we get to read a few poems from Echo Echo by Marilyn Singer and Josee Masse and hear Matt do the speediest backpedalling to date on the podcast! On this episode I speak with Ali Baker who is the founder of "For Startups" and she works with founders to help them scale, with a focus on building B2B sales teams, developing commercial strategies and recruiting.
Moving from idea to innovation to starting your own venture can be all consuming...and then the selling starts. In this conversation with Ali Baker we discuss the mindset of founders making the step to entrust sales to someone external to the innovation. Drawing on work For Startups does with its clients, we move from that point through selecting, course correction and then how to think about the role of process as scaling gets underway.

I have the absolute pleasure of talking with Ali Baker in this week's podcast. Ali is a homeopath, a teacher, mother of identical twins and coach to women wanting to reconnect with themselves and love their body again, or perhaps for the first time. In the episode we go off the rails and talk intuition and the power in trusting ourselves, starting by listening to our bodies. Ali Baker is a holistic intuitive coach working with the Divine Feminine energy empowering women to re-find their flow via the menstrual cycle and reclaim their inner wild power. As a fully qualified homeopath, she uses remedies and flower essences to support transformation as well as creative dance. Ali also facilitates a variety of groups with an online monthly Red Tent and a variety of in-person workshops on the intuition, vision boards, well being and meditation. Passionate about all things natural she loves growing her own vegetables, cooking and swimming in wild cold water. Originally from the North of England, Ali now lives in the French Alps and will qualify soon as a Biodanza teacher. www.ali-baker.com
