Season 20 of YA, We Read It is here! It's time to lock into a middle-grade series from the aughts: Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Meggie and Laura are back at the mics and extremely excited to dive into a place where their past selves never went: to Camp Half-Blood. It's 0 to 100 as Percy's entire world is turned upside down when he finds out that his real dad is Poseiden, the Greek God of the Sea.
In the special segment “Internet Insanity,” Shanna and Laura share the wild and wacky content they've found online recently, including a baby name that has risen to fame for a surprising reason and a mom-group breakup of epic proportions. Also, Laura shares how a Percy Jackson obsession turned into a spontaneous after-school trip with her kids, and Shanna talks about the device that enabled her 9-year-old to arrange her own play date. Finally, the moms share their BFPs and BFNs for the week, including family outings at two Los Angeles landmarks, one beautiful and one bizarre. Shanna's kids are 7 and 9.5 years old, and Laura's kids are 7 years old and 4.5 years old.Topics discussed in this episode:A spontaneous after-school adventure with your kidsWhen your kid starts planning their own social life Giving your child a “just enough” phone for safety and texting friends2025's name of the year and what it says about baby naming trendsToxic mom-group drama, celebrity editionKeeping longtime friendships going as parentsFun, unusual day trips around Los Angeles with kidsProducts, links, resources mentioned in this episode:Percy Jackson book seriesPercy Jackson series on Disney+Percy Jackson end creditsGriffith ObservatoryTracfone"The 2025 Name of the Year is Elara" by Laura Wattenberg"How a ‘Splash' Joke Led to the ‘Madison' Baby Name Boom"Perez Hilton"Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group" by Ashley Tisdale French"Matthew Koma (Hilary Duff's husband) getting in on the 'mom group' drama"Huntington GardensOld Los Angeles Zoo in Griffith ParkPast BFP episodes mentioned in this episode:Ep. 397 - Where Shanna's kids go to "field trip" campEp. 305 - Where Sebastian fell and got a gash on his nose at the Huntington GardensConnect with UsFollow us on social: Instagram, TikTok or Facebook at @bfppodcastJoin our Facebook community group for support and camaraderie on your parenting journey.Visit our website: bigfatpositivepodcast.comEmail us: contact@bigfatpositivepodcast.comIf you enjoyed this episode, help spread the word by sharing the show or leaving a review. Welcome to our spoiler review of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Season 2: The Sea of Monsters this is Part I of II!!returntocamp.com
He's still enjoying the journey and is happy to know a third season is already on the way. Jay is diving into Star Trek: Starfleet Academy on Paramount+ and was pleasantly surprised by its quality and tone. Holly Hunter stands out, and Jay appreciates that the show doesn't talk down to younger viewers while still feeling very much like Star Trek. Sci-Fi Saturdays - This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay looks at Life (2017), a tense and claustrophobic sci-fi thriller about scientists aboard the ISS discovering a rapidly evolving life form from Mars. It's gripping and well made, but definitely not something you throw on when you're looking for a feel-good movie night.Read his article on RetroZap.com. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU. Enjoy The Moon! This week, Jay and Shua take a giant leap through the Moon's long history in fiction, film, and real-world exploration. From early writers imagining lunar voyages to Hollywood's evolving obsession with moon bases, secret missions, and alien mysteries, the Moon has always been a perfect sci-fi playground. They also look at how real lunar exploration influenced pop culture, from the Apollo missions to the upcoming Artemis II launch, and why the Moon continues to inspire stories across science fiction, fantasy, horror, music, and comics. Whether it's astronauts, superheroes, or werewolves, the Moon always finds a way to steal the spotlight. Are you excited to take steps for a man and woman, and another giant leap for mankind. SEASON 2 FINALE!!!!! (screaming, crying, throwing up). This week, we're discussing Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 8 of Season 2, "The Fleece Works Its Magic Too Well." We discuss the art of adaptation and adjusting themes to be relevant to current times. What do we do when our leaders aren't standing up for us? We protect our own, that's what. There are lots of changes in this one, and we're on board with them. Manasa's question about the fleece is answered. We both sing Sally Jackson's praises. Erin compares Luke to Zeus. We love how this ended, and can't believe we have to wait for season 3 now!Be sure to follow us on socials to see reels and memes to go along with the episodes! @camphalfpodLinks:SUPPORT US ON PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/camphalfpod?fan_landing=trueSUPPORT US ON KO-FI: https://ko-fi.com/camphalfpodSEND US AN AUDIO MESSAGE: https://www.speakpipe.com/CamphalfpodJOIN OUR DISCORD: https://discord.gg/gzHYsUbdgrMERCH: https://www.zazzle.com/store/camphalfpod
