Growing an Ecommerce business is still one of the best ways to build something that can financially serve you and your family long-term, but it has never been more difficult. That’s why you should take advantage of the knowledge and experience of those who have done it in the past and are still doing it today, even with all the changes that have happened in the Ecommerce space. This episode of Maximizing Ecommerce features Scott Voelker, Kevin’s long-time mentor and friend, a super successful Ecommerce seller, and host of “The Amazing Seller” podcast. Scott shares his story, how the Ecommerce industry has changed over the last few years, and how you can get involved in building your own brand, investing your time, energy, and resources wisely, and establishing a long-term revenue stream (or two, or three) that makes all the effort worth it. You can grow a successful Ecommerce business today! Listen to hear how Scott and Kevin advise you go about it. Outline of This Episode [0:30] How the Ecommerce world is constantly changing - and what doesn’t [1:30] Introducing Kevin’s friend and mentor, Scott Voelker [3:09] The backstory behind Kevin and Scott’s friendship [8:09] Why the things that worked in the past don’t work as well in 2019 [21:01] Content is a huge part of building a brand. Scott shares how to do it well [20:31] What to expect from your content marketing efforts [37:90] How product sales can pivot into digital products [42:44] Relationships with others who are building brands are valuable [47:12] Scott’s parting advice for those looking to grow and Ecommerce business Private label sales: Not as simple as picking a product that is selling well It wasn’t too long ago that private label sellers were able to research popular items selling on Amazon, create their own version of the product, and begin selling it (and making money). Back then, if you ran out of inventory due to rapid sales, you typically had time to reorder and get back in the game. But today that is not the case. By the time you reorder and resupply your initial stock at Amazon, 3 to 5 new sellers are likely to have copied what you’re doing and will be raking in the sales in your place. It's also likely that one of those suppliers will have taken over the product listing you worked so hard to build and you won’t have a chance of regaining your place at the top. What’s the solution? In this episode, Scott and Kevin talk about the options you have for growing an Ecommerce business in 2019. You could… Sell varied products as cash-flow opportunities (and constantly be shifting what you sell) Build a brand of your own around the same niche area of interest Which is better? Does one have greater benefits for you as a seller than the other? Listen to this great conversation between two experienced Amazon sellers to get the answers. Two options for growing an Ecommerce business you should consider Consider this scenario: You find products that are selling well and begin supplying products of your own in that market. They sell well at first, but it isn’t long before the market fills up with look-alike products and suppliers. You have to pivot and wind up selecting a different product to add to what you sell. You experience the same sort of success at first - but the niche is quickly saturated again. OR, you could do this: Once you’ve found a product that both sells well and that you enjoy, you decide to double-down on that market. You work to differentiate your product by adding new features. You brand your product with your particular logo and mark, you customize the packaging, you add additional products that complement the ones you already sell. All of that leads to buyers having a good feeling about your brand - and customer experience turns into customer loyalty. Which would YOU prefer? Scott Voelker, Kevin’s guest on this episode has seen and experienced both scenarios and he’s convinced the later of the two is the best long-term gain, for many reasons. Listen to this episode to hear how he advises to do it in 2019. Step one for building an Ecommerce brand in 2019 There are people out there who are selling products on Amazon who don’t want to build a brand. The brainwork and nuance required to make things cohesive is not attractive to them - and perhaps they enjoy the “hunt” of finding new products and making them rise to the top of the Amazon search. If that is you, what does Scott recommend you do? First - Scott recommends you figure out a specific market and find and develop a variety of products in the same niche. It’s easier to research and provide products that are related, and each of them can point buyers to the other products you sell. If you do go about things in that way, Scott recommends you start investing your profits in other things that are completely unrelated to your product and your Amazon efforts. That’s because you want your income diversified so that if Amazon changes its algorithms or policies, you don’t lose everything. Isn’t that smart? A huge part of growing an Ecommerce business depends on Content Marketing Do you understand the term “Content Marketing?” It’s the process of producing valuable, free content for those who are interested in what you are selling so that you can build a following ("Bass Fishing" is one of Scott’s favorite illustrations). You’ve likely benefited from this kind of marketing yourself and didn’t even realize it was marketing. This podcast is one example of content marketing. When you do this, follow these two principles… Provide value - don’t make content just to make content. Truly help people Be consistent - content marketing is a long game, but a very effective one As you do this, you are able to connect with people who are truly interested in what you have to offer by building an email list. You can then sell your products to them through emails, place advertisements on your website that takes advantage of the traffic you're getting, create digital products that relate to your physical products, make sales through affiliate links you provide, and more. This episode is full of great information about how to build a brand, how to use it to its fullest potential through content marketing, and how to diversify your income streams so that you can be protected from the ups and downs of Amazon sales. As a BONUS, Scotts shares how to build relationships with others in the Ecommerce space for the possibility of joint ventures and new opportunities - like the Brand Accelerator Live event Scott and Kevin are putting on this year. Brainstorming Amazon private label and e-commerce strategies is something Scott and his buddies love to do. They have been connecting on Fridays for a while now to do that and thought it would be great to record their conversations and publish them for you to hear. That’s what this episode of The Amazing Seller is - and they’re calling it the TAS Power Hour. And more than simply pontificating about what’s going on they also field questions from people who are watching on Facebook Live and Periscope so you can hear them address real-life scenarios and questions as well. Does driving traffic to my Amazon listing help my ranking? It’s a good idea to drive traffic to your product listings on Amazon. No question about it. But you have to understand that while it’s a great thing to get people to your product, if they don’t actually buy the product you could be hurting yourself. On this episode of The Amazing Seller Scott and the guys chat a bit about how the Amazon Algorithm calculates a product’s popularity from visits to the product page. It turns out the action visitors take from there has a huge impact on whether or not the product is ranked higher or lower. How long do they stay on the page? Do they buy? Do they click away from the page? All of it matters, so be sure you listen to discover the best strategies. What are the best ways to get my product to page 1 - besides pay per click? Amazon pay per click is definitely the simplest way to get your products listed at the top of the search rankings, but it costs money. Are there other ways you can rank your products without spending that kind of money? Scott, Chris, and Don say there are only two other ways. The first is to sell products. They don’t say that in a smart alec way but because it’s true. If you could sell products consistently without any PPC or advertising of any kind, Amazon would organically rank you at the top of your category because sales are the main thing the algorithm looks at. But there is another thing you can do to maximize your potential of landing your product on page one, and Scott and the guys tell you what it is on this episode. Is it OK to include inserts in my product packaging? What should I include on them? There has been some debate about whether or not it’s OK with Amazon’s terms of service to insert some kind of promotional or call to action card inside your product packaging. Scott, Chris, and Don all feel that it’s totally legitimate to do so. But if you’re going to do it, what should you put on that card? The guys talk about insert cards at length on this episode and address a number of possible things you could include. If you want to know what they think is the absolute best use of insert cards, you need to listen to this Power Hour episode. What’s the best way to create product giveaways? One of the strategies that Scott, Don, and Chris recommend for promoting your products is the use of product giveaways. You’re able to gather email addresses of people who are interested in your products and get eyes on your products at the same time. But there are ways of doing it that are not quite as good as others and the guys walk through the reasons behind using a professional giveaway service on this episode. If you’re considering a product giveaway you’ll get a good deal of insight from this episode. Welcome to this Friday Q & A episode of the Amazing Seller Podcast. We call these the “Ask Scott” sessions because it’s exactly that - your opportunity to ask Scott Voelker anything you want about selling on the Amazon platform. From product research and selection to shipping issues, to Amazon seller accounts and terms of service, to packaging, promotion, reviews, seller feedback - you name it and Scott is willing to address it on these Friday episodes. Be sure you ask your question. Who knows? Maybe it will be featured on a future Ask Scott episode. Why results bring confidence in business and in life. Everyone knows this but it’s true nonetheless. When you get results in any area of life you begin to gain confidence in that area. But you’ll never get the results if you never start. That’s why one of Scott’s biggest mantras is #takeAction. So if you’re struggling with confidence when it comes to your Amazon sales simply because it’s so new to you, you may need to simply take a step into the unknown so that you can gain the results you need to build that confidence. You can hear Scott’s thoughts on how he’s experienced this dynamic in business and in life, on this episode. How can I best use Pay per Click to get myself to page 1 of the Amazon rankings? Amazon’s pay per click tool is an amazing way to quickly make your product visible in the Amazon search rankings. But it’s not a normal listing that your potential customers see, it’s a promoted listing. But it’s what you’ve got to do in order to get your first sales. The first part of the launch is not about ranking, it’s about getting initial sales and reviews. That is where Amazon PPC comes in as a powerful way to drive those sales. The next part of a launch is about ranking higher and that doesn’t happen through promotions, it happens through organic sales. And those organic sales are fueled partly by the existence of good reviews. Reviews serve as proof that your product is quality and actually something others want as well. When I have variations on my products will my Best Seller Rank (BSR) apply to all variations or does each have it’s own BSR? Every product in the Amazon catalog, including yours, has a seller rank. Every seller wants their product to achieve a best seller rank that shows potential customers that their product is worth buying. A listener asks about how variations of a product impact BSR. Do the variations each have their own BSR or is the overall “parent product” the only one that has a BSR to be concerned about? It’s a great question and Scott has one of his “it depends” answers for you on this episode. Should I have my products shipped first to my home address or directly to Amazon? It may seem like a sensible shortcut to have the products from your supplier sent directly to the Amazon warehouse. After all, why would you want to keep inventory in your own home? Isn’t that what we’re trying to avoid through FBA? But the issue is that when you send products directly to the Amazon warehouse you have no quality control process in place to ensure that your products are free of defects. The only way you know is that customers begin leaving negative reviews on your products - which is never a good thing. On this episode of The Amazing Seller Scott outlines some of the options for shipping that make sense for international sellers and domestic sellers. Every one of us has a legacy that has bred us, the things that have made us into the people that we are. Sometimes those are negative influences, sometimes they are not so good. On this episode of the show Scott shares a conversation with his Dad that he recorded recently to share some of the legacy of his own life. In Scott’s eyes his Dad is a great example of someone who was always willing to work hard and earn the money needed to care for his family and take care of his obligations. He’s also the one who taught Scott to hustle and figure out ways to build his own businesses. You’re going to enjoy the homespun wisdom and insights Papa V. has to share, on this episode. From egg sales to a chicken farm to a draft notice. Scott’s father was an entrepreneur from an early age simply because he had to be. He wanted extra money to buy his own lunch at school and his father didn’t have the money to give him. So his dad arranged for him to get some chickens and begin selling eggs. That business grew into a chicken farm and in time he was doing quite well. When he was 22 years old he was drafted, but signed up for the Navy instead. Even in the Navy his Dad found an entrepreneurial opportunity sewing patches on uniforms, stocking up on cigarettes and reselling them to fellow soldiers at a higher price, and even making loans at interest. You can hear this powerful example of old fashioned entrepreneurial hustle on this episode. There’s always a way you can find to get the money you need. On today’s episode of The Amazing Seller Scott shares a conversation with his Dad who was his example of hard work and determination. He showed by his actions that he could always figure out a way to make the income needed to meet his obligations and take care of his family. As you listen to this episode, keep in mind the obstacles you face and think about the opportunities you may have every day to increase your income and make a way to build your income. There is a way. Find it. Partnership woes and things you should watch out for. Neither Scott nor his Dad believe that partnerships are always terrible or to be avoided. But they both have seen the negative side of partnerships and have lots to say about the various cautions that you need to be aware of when considering a partnership. On this episode you’ll hear the story of their partnership woes and how you can avoid making the same mistakes. It’s a great story of persistence, learning from mistakes, and building a successful business on the coattails of a business mess. Hard work and persistence will ALWAYS pay off for you, if you take action. The main purpose of this episode of The Amazing Seller podcast is not to teach you tricks and strategies for doing private label sales better. It’s a deeper and more general lesson than that. This one brings you an old school example of how determination and drive to succeed will enable you to be successful in the end. Scott’s Dad (Papa V.) has lots of stories to share and a great deal of wisdom to impart so you’d be wise to listen and get some ideas about the kind of work and dedication it takes to build a business you can be proud of. New product ideas can come from anywhere. Really, you might be surprised where you discover the next great thing. On this episode Scott’s going to share with you exactly how he discovered his latest product idea quite by accident and how it’s proving to be a pretty good product from the first go ‘round. Listening to this episode will inspire you to think a little more outside the box about your next product idea. So be sure to listen and start dreaming about your next product! There are some things in life Scott said he would never do… And He’s finally wising up and learning not to say those kinds of categorical things. Why? Because there are so many of those “nevers” that He’s wound up doing. That’s instrumental to this episode of the podcast because He’s entering into one of those areas with his newest product. It’s in the supplement niche, which he said he’d never do and he wants you to hear the story of why he’s going in that direction, how it came about, and how you can learn from his story to find your own new product ideas. The journey you are on has opportunities at every turn. You never know what a day may bring. You really don’t. There could be a huge challenge or a massive opportunity, and Scott’s learned that the opportunities will pass you by if you don’t have your eyes open and your brain engaged to see them when they show up. On this episode of The Amazing Seller Scott’s walking you through an example of that - how he came across some situations that have offered up his latest product - and how his situation is an illustration of what you can do to find some great product ideas as well. The people you meet might be your next source of inspiration. There are people you meet everyday who have areas of expertise and experience that you will never have. Those people may have something of tremendous value to add to the world but you’ll never know if you don’t get out there and meet them or talk to them. Scott has recently discovered the Dad of his daughter’s friend is a fount of knowledge about things Scott never knew he’d be interested in, and has a lot to offer by way of information and products. So Scott’s investigating the possibility of going in on a product line with him, in the supplement niche. One of the things that makes for a better business is learning from people who are down that business path ahead of you. Scott loves to hear from people who have been doing Amazon private label sales for some time and one of those people he’s chatted with before is Greg Mercer, creator of Jungle Scout and Amazon seller himself. This conversation is a bit of an update to a previous episode (Episode 56), where Greg and Scott share their current tips about choosing products, launching, and the lessons they’ve learned over the years. Greg Mercer’s criteria for good products to sell on Amazon There are some common sense things you should be aware of when choosing products to sell on Amazon. Many people don’t think of these but would be hugely benefitted if they did. Here they are: Smaller products that weigh less than a pound - this keeps your shipping costs and fees lower. Nothing that can be easily broken in shipping or by use (that means electronics among other things). There’s really many more than we can cover in a short paragraph so be sure you take the time to listen to this value packed episode. You’ve got to know how to research the depth of product markets to sell successfully. You hear Scott talk about this issue quite often. It’s the role that depth of market plays in discovering if you have indeed found a true opportunity in a particular market. On this episode of the Amazing Seller Scott and his guest, Greg Mercer, go into quite a bit of detail about how each of them does market research, why it’s important, and the pitfalls you can avoid if you do this step the right way. Get ready to take some notes because these guys unpack it all the way! Once you start ranking on Amazon you’ve got to keep your products near the top. It’s one thing to enter a new market with your brand new product. It’s an exciting thing when you start to see your product sell. It’s even more exciting when you find your sales pushing your product toward the top of the search rankings. But how can you keep it there? That’s one of the many things Scott Voelker and Greg Mercer talk about on this episode of the Amazing Seller. They’re going to cover reviews, PPC (pay per click), and product sales, in depth. You won’t want to miss this one. Jungle Scout: One of the best Amazon Private Label research tools out there! When Scott first started selling on Amazon there was no software available to help with product and market research. He literally created a spreadsheet and tracked things day after day after day to find out what he needed to know. Now there are amazing software solutions that make that same research happen in seconds rather than months, and one of those is Jungle Scout, created by Greg Mercer. On this episode Greg unpacks the details of what Jungle Scout can do and how it works to help you optimize your product selection process - and he gives a discount on the software that listeners to this episode can get. There’s a lot of talk in the Amazon sales communities that the market is getting saturated, that Amazon is getting flooded with sellers and that opportunities are diminishing. Is it true? If you simply throw a generic product on the Amazon sales engine and there is lots of competition for identical or similar products, maybe so. But you don’t have to stop there. In this episode Scott Voelker is going to walk you through some very simple things you can do to make your private label products stand out in a crowded market. This episode is loaded with practical ideas and tips to make your products different and attractive even if this market is crowded. You need to think about your market, not just one product. When offering products on Amazon you’ve got to keep in mind that you’re not just selling a product, you’re entering a market and you want to DOMINATE that market by offering products that meet the needs of the market in unique and truly helpful ways. What does that mean practically? It means you don’t just want to load up your seller account with products, you want to make your products themselves unique so that they get more eyes on them, more attention, and eventually more sales. You want your product to be the top selling product, the most popular product, and you do that by making sure that your items are customized in ways that matter to the end user, the customer. In this episode of The Amazing Seller Scott walks through 5 ways you can make your products stand out so they can be positioned to take over your market. The text you put on your product page matters - a lot. Product descriptions are one of your main opportunities to make your product stand out, to outline and specifically highlight the difference between yours and those of your competition. You’ve got to become adept at telling about your product in ways that catch attention and draw people to give your product a second look. You can do that through the use of words like “professional” or "heavy duty.” Those words communicate quality and value that is not true of every product in the niche. That way you can appeal to certain groups of buyers, like those who use your type of product in a professional capacity. There’s a ton more that can be said about this issue, and Scott covers a lot of it on this episode, so give it a listen. Oversized items can expand your sales in ways you’ve never considered. Most Amazon sellers don’t stock oversized items for many reasons. They may have a higher cost so it’s a more difficult place to enter a market. They typically cost more to ship to Amazon so there’s another barrier. But if you can get your mind around one simple fact you’ll see that oversized items might be your ticket to success. What’s that fact? It’s that most other Amazon sellers are staying away from oversized products for the same reasons you are. That leaves a huge hole in the market that you can fill. So as your business becomes more profitable, consider investing in oversized items as an addition to your product line. You could be stepping into a vacuum that’s been left in the market that will set your company apart in your niche, and begin capturing sales that nobody is currently meeting. Scott’s got more to say about oversized items, so be sure to listen. Customizing your products means more than just putting your logo on it. Lot’s of Amazon sellers understand the need to have products that are difficult to copy or imitate. But there’s more to it than simply putting your logo on it. You’ve got to research your market niche to find out what customers are looking for and figure out a way to provide it for them. How do you do that? One powerful way is to check out the reviews on products within your niche. Oftentimes customers will tell you exactly what they wish was different about the product they just bought. As you read more reviews you’ll begin to see patterns. Those wishes are actually requests for YOU to make a better product especially for them. That’s just one way you can learn how to customize products for more Amazon sales, so listen to this episode of the Amazing Seller to get more ideas for product customization. One of the most difficult and time consuming parts of setting up a private label Amazon sales business is product selection. What are things you should do when picking a product to private label? More importantly, what are the things you should NOT do? On this episode of the Amazing Seller Scott’s going to walk you through 3 of the most commonly made mistakes when it comes to product selection. With each of those points he’s going to give you the details of what the mistake is, why it’s a mistake, and how to avoid it. Can you see how valuable this episode is going to be? Make sure you set aside some time to listen. Depth of a product market is huge. What is it and how do you figure it? If you are considering a product in a certain area you need to assess what Scott calls the “depth of market.” What is that? It’s a way of gauging the demand for a product to see if there is enough room for you to insert another variation of that product into the mix and have a chance of making enough profit. Figuring the depth of market has to do with analyzing the top 10 selling versions of that product and getting the average sales volume of each, from 1 to 10. Then you want to assess if the volume being sold is enough to leave room for your product. Sound confusing? It’s not that hard, but Scott explains it a lot better on this episode, so be sure to listen. You also need to look at the volume and placement of reviews for the product you’re considering. Why are reviews important? Because the amount of reviews a product gets, throughout all the variations and sellers, is going to tell you which of those products is a better seller and which are not doing so well. If you have 10 sellers of the same product and the top two have a ton of reviews, but none of the others have many at all, you might want to reconsider selling a similar product. Why? Because you’ll be fighting an uphill battle to make any headway in that niche - the top sellers already have the market on that product kind of buttoned down. Hear Scott’s explanation and tips on this issue by listening. Considering price when you select a new product. If you aren’t careful to look at the issue of pricing when you select a new product to private label, you could get yourself into a world of hurt. Let’s take an example. If you see 6 different products for sale in the niche you’re considering and one of them is priced at $14.99 but all the others are much lower, you’re going to have a hard time introducing a new product into that market. Why? Because it’s pretty clear that the main competition for that product is based on price, so it’s always going to come down to which seller is willing to make the smallest margin, which means you have to sell tons more products in order to really make a profit that’s worth all the effort. So be careful when it comes to price. Make sure you’re getting into a product niche that has plenty of room for you to fit in and take some of the sales. Hear more of Scott’s explanation of pricing and how it impacts product selection on this episode of The Amazing Seller. Would you like a discounted copy of Jungle Scout? What is Jungle Scout? It’s not always easy for potential Amazon sellers to choose the right products to sell. That’s because there are so many products possible and so many people already selling those products. How do you know which might be profitable? How do you know if there’s enough room in the market for your product ideas? How do you know if you should take the chance? In this episode of The Amazing Seller Scott’s going to walk you through the 5 steps he uses every time he’s trying to figure out if a product idea is worth pursuing. And as a bonus, he’s going to tell you why you should be thinking of building a brand, not just selling a product or two. It’s an amazing episode you’ll want to hear! There is a lot of value of doing a brain dump. Before you even start the 5 steps Scott covers in this episode he suggests you first do what he calls a “brain dump.” You want to get out a sheet of paper and a pencil and write down every single idea you have about what products you might be able to sell or be interested in selling. As you do this you need to think about your passions, your pains and problems, your hobbies, and even the things that fall into those categories that were true of you in the past. These are great ways to tease ideas out of your head and onto paper so that you can look at all the options that appeal to you. From there, you’ll have a direction to go. Hear the details of Scott’s 5 steps by listening in to this episode. You’ve got to find the market that your products can serve. The market your products will be sold to is simply the people who are interested in or desirous of your particular type of product. Are they baseball fans? Are they watchers of a particular television show? Are they moms who have a particular hobby on the side? You have to be able to answer what your target market is because knowing those people’s interests is what’s going to show you the wide variety of products they might be interested in, products which you could add to your product line. So you have a product on Amazon… your next step is to begin thinking about a product line. What’s the difference? A product is a one-time shot. You only have one opportunity to make a sale to people in your target market. But a product line is like having lots of hooks in the water. You have many more chances of getting a bite! A product line that is focused on one particular market is called a brand, and what you need to be doing is building a brand, which translates into having a legitimate business. Scott’s going to cover the specifics of what it takes to build a reputable and viable brand on this episode of The Amazing Seller. There are at least 8 reasons you need to be thinking about building a brand rather than just a product line. A product line is just that… a line of generic, random products that fit within the same niche market. But a brand takes on a life of its own. A brand becomes something that consumers look for, by name, and can become loyal to over time. Imagine that, people who want exactly what you’re offering who are looking for you and only you. There’s amazing power and profit in being able to position your business in that sort of a relationship with your clients. It enables your business to soar to levels you never thought possible. Take some time and listen to Scott’s 8 reasons you should focus on building a brand, on this episode of The Amazing Seller. True story: A new Amazon seller followed Scott’s instruction step by step and the results were phenomenal. In the first 30 days of his product going live John made $11,305.94. It’s proof that the model of private label sales on Amazon not only works, it’s a legitimate way to earn a very substantial income. In this episode of The Amazing Seller Scott talks about the highlights of John’s experience, gives encouragement about how you can go about the same processes that John followed, and most of all, continues to stress that you have to take action now. John quit his job and dove into Amazon sales. Should you? That took a lot of guts. Not everybody would feel comfortable doing that. Scott is one of those people. His Amazon sales business took a full 90 days before he started seeing any kind of significant growth. If he’d quit his job to get into it, he would have been in a world of hurt before significant income came in. While John had incredible success in his first 30 days, Scott says it’s better to do your homework on the side and get started part time. That way you don’t put yourself or your family in a difficult spot. Find out more about why Scott advises caution when it comes to quitting your job to start Amazon FBA sales, on this episode of The Amazing Seller. The 10X10x1 Formula worked like a charm for John. John gives the credit for the quick launch and success of his Amazon business to Scott’s 10X10X1 formula. What is the formula? Simply put, it’s this: 10 units - $10 profit - 1 day. So 10 units sold at $10 profit, every day. That formula is what you’re shooting for to keep your product sales (and business growth) rolling in a positive direction. John set the 10X10X1 formula as his goal when he launched his product and discovered that the focus enabled him focus only on products that were already selling at least $10 per day, and to work smarter and more diligently as he tried to get his business going. Find out what those steps were by listening to this episode. How did John learn everything that he did to make his private label business successful? John learned everything that he did from Scott’s podcast. But he didn’t just listen to each episode once or twice. He listened to every episode multiple times because he learned that the first couple of times through he heard what he wanted to hear, not what he needed to hear. The repeated listening enabled him to pick up things he’d missed in the first listens that were critical to his success. Hear how John suggests you go about learning the things you need to know in order to make your products take off like his did, on this episode. How John maximized his promotions - it’s not a common way of doing it, but it worked. John offered some discount promotion codes for his product when he first launched. He put out the codes on fliers that he hung up at a local convenience store. He also made the offer that if the people using the code recommended the product to their friends, he’d give their friends a discount as well (10% to 20%). The fliers disappeared from the convenience store and every single one of the discount codes was used! That’s an amazing response to an unorthodox way of getting the offer out. Hear the details of how that promotion impacted John’s product launch, on this episode of The Amazing Seller. There is a lot more to making your Amazon business successful than sourcing a product and throwing it onto Amazon. You’ve got to figure out ways to get many, many people not only seeing your products, but opting in to your email list and eventually, purchasing your products. When your items first show up on Amazon, they’ll be way down the list, so organic sales will be very few. That’s where “outside” traffic comes in. In this episode of The Amazing Seller Scott’s going to highlight some of the “dos” and “don’ts” of outside traffic to help you get the right kind of traffic, the right way. The right social media platform for the right audience. What does that mean? It means that when you’re considering promotions or list-building ads on a social media platform, you need to think through why people are on that social media platform in the first place. For example: People tend to go onto Facebook to see what’s going on with their friends or family, or to be entertained by funny memes or videos. Very seldom are they there to buy a product. So ads directing people to a sales page are not as effective. But if you were to apply that same evaluation to Pinterest, you may find an entirely different story. In this episode Scott covers the difference in various social media platforms and gives his advice on how to use each of them to drive traffic to the right offer or page. Do you know the biggest “outside traffic” mistake Amazon sellers make? It’s driving people directly to a sales page instead of trying to use social media platforms for a more long term goal - building an email list. Because many people are on social media for “social” reasons (go figure), they aren’t open to buying something while they’re on that channel. So trying to make them do it is not only frustrating, it’s dumb. Instead, appeal to the reason they are there in the first place by offering them something that is entertaining or socially oriented that is connected to your product. And how do they get it? By signing up for your email list. It’s a great way to build a list that can help you launch products, get reviews, and lots more. Find out how Scott would go about doing it, on this episode of The Amazing Seller. Are there smart ways to drive traffic using Pinterest? You bet there are. Many people use Pinterest to spark their creativity or to find ideas about home decor, crafts, haircuts, and a million other things. They are there in a “consumer” mood already. If they see your product-related pin and it sparks their interest or scratches an itch they already have, you may wind up having a very warm lead or potential customer. And one of the good things… if they wind up pinning your image to their board, it’s there forever, for all their friends and followers to see. Find out more about how Scott’s learning to use Pinterest on this episode. To build your list you need to offer something that is truly of value to people. Too many internet marketers throw together something shoddy or unfulfilling to lure people into subscribing for their email list. But if you do that you destroy the trust level because once they download your offer and discover it’s junk, they will unsubscribe or worse yet, form a negative opinion of you and your products. That’s why it’s critical that the “offer” you make in exchange for an email address is something of great value to your ideal customers. By doing that you’ll ensure that they are the type of person who will not only buy your product, but also be more likely to help you promote it and spread the word. Hear Scott’s tactics and ideas for building your list through great offers, on this episode of The Amazing Seller. An email list is an asset that is yours forever. It’s a tool you can use to make your products known to people who are perfectly matched for them, and no company or person can keep you from using that list to increase your sales, reviews, and success. If you aren’t building an email list right now, you’ve got to start. You can use the tips Scott shares in this episode to get a jump on the process, using mostly free tools. And in the end, even if you do need to invest a small amount of money in building your list, you’ll recoup that cash quickly once those you target through your email campaigns begin responding to your products. Find out how to do it on this episode. Amazon won’t give you the email address of people who buy your products. But that doesn’t mean you can’t build an email list of your own. How can you do it? It’s really not that difficult to figure out, and once you do it, you’ve got a “launch list” to market to for every new product in your niche that you develop and place on Amazon. Imagine the impact of being able to target your new products directly to people who have already expressed interest in your products. You’ll have a jumpstart on Amazon reviews, sales, and ultimately, success. In this episode of The Amazing Seller Scott is going to give you his top 6 tips for building your own email list. How you can use a Facebook fan page to capture emails and build a community. Anyone can create a Facebook fan page… it’s really pretty simple. But how do you get people into the group? Even more importantly, how do you get people into the group who are truly interested in what you have to sell? That’s where Facebook ads come in. For a very small amount you can specifically target people who have already indicated that they are interested in the types of things you sell. You can set daily limits on what you spend, tweak your ad campaign at any time, and cancel when you feel it’s done all you need it to do. This is one of Scott’s favorite ways to build a fan page, which you can then use to build your email list. Find out the details on this episode. Tomoson is another way you can build an email list of people who want what you have to sell. Tomoson is a website dedicated to connecting review bloggers and the people who have products needing reviews. That sounds like you, doesn’t it? Using their platform you can locate bloggers who are interested in reviewing the kinds of products you sell, make contact with them offering to send them your product in exchange for a review, and increase your exposure through their review and through the things they say about your product on their blog. It’s a great way to increase interest in your products with the potential of building your email list with the addresses of those who respond. Find out how Scott uses Tomoson on this episode of The Amazing Seller. You can also use Amasuite to find and filter reviewers who are interested in the type of products you sell. Amasuite is Chris Guthrie’s amazing tool that helps you research and filter through the Amazon listings to find the exact products that might be big sellers. But there’s tons more to Amasuite than just product research. You can use the filter functionality in the program to find people likely to review a product like yours so you can reach out to them for a review. It’s another amazing way you can get your products into the hands of interested reviewers, which in turn can increase your product’s profile in Amazon. Find out how Scott uses Amasuite to gain more subscribers to his email list, and how you can get $100 off the software - in this episode.
