This week, we condemn ourselves to hell for blasphemy. Jeff Foxworthy hosts the incredibly-difficult-for-heathens Game Show Network hit that brought in a record number of viewers before disappearing suddenly into the heavens. Listen along as we break down the game, the history, and The Word.
Check out my conversation with Beth. Beth is the daughter of Johnny Griffith, the legendary and Multi-Grammy® Award-winning pianist/keyboardist. He was an original member of the Funk Brothers, Motown's in-house studio band that created the famous ‘Motown Sound.' Even though her father was an extremely successful musician, and Beth's natural vocal talents were undeniable, Johnny Griffith encouraged his daughter not to pursue music professionally, because he felt the business was too hurtful and unfair. Both of Beth's parents were strict when it came work and education, and insisted that she work summer jobs in order to buy what she wanted, and that she earn a college degree. She has released seven solo recording projects and been featured on or provided backing vocals for seven additional recording projects. Beth is a member of SAG-AFTRA and also acted in four feature films, multiple stage plays, and commercials for TV and radio. As a season 16 contestant on NBC's "The Voice," Beth was coached by both Kelly Clarkson and John Legend. Beth was a principle vocalist on “Dancing With The Stars, Season 22 - Icons Night,” and has also provided her voice to the television shows: “Ash vs. Evil Dead” on the Starz Network, "Glee Project" on the OWN Network and "American Bible Challenge" on the Game Show Network (GSN). It's a holiday week: time for a good old-fashioned Forcening, in which each of your EHG regulars makes another one watch a TV episode or movie. This time, we're acknowledging July 4th by obliging one another to watch shows with "America" in the title, and Tara's first up, forcing Sarah to watch 2000's short-lived, extremely derivative, stupidly enjoyable Young Americans, a Dawson's Creek spin-off featuring references to Stephen King, Dead Poets Society, The Skulls, and kindling. ...Wait, that last thing was actually Kate Bosworth. Next, Sarah forced Dave to watch a third-season episode of cocaine fever-dream The Greatest American Hero -- a great theme song in search of half-decent CGI, a team of writers who would stay for the whole episode, and better costume strat. Finally, Dave made Tara take The American Bible Challenge, and we all learned that there's more than one Herod, it's hard to flip a fork, and Jeff Foxworthy might be America's Host. Praise God -- it's an all-new Extra Hot Great! TOPICS Lead Topic:

In podcasting terms, that makes us positively Methuselahian. Since the start of EHG, our listeners have asked if we had a tip jar or donation system and we'd look at each other and say surely that is a joke, people don't pay other people to do podcasts. We'd email them back "Ha ha ha, good one, Chet" and go about our business. Now we are told this is a real thing that real nice people do. Value for value? In today's topsy turvy world? It's madness but that good kind of madness, like when you wake up at 3:15am and clean your house. Or something. In all seriousness, we are humbled by your continued prodding to get a Patreon page up for EHG and here it is! Extra Hot Great on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
