You've read the book "All My Friends are Dead" by Avery Monsen and Jory John, focusing on a little dinosaur that has lost all his loved ones. Well, for Velma Barfield, that book is reality. Velma Barfield grew up in rural North Carolina. When she was 17, she got married and had a happy life with her husband and two kids. But when both herself and her husband ended up with chronic pain that they self medicated through either drugs or alcohol, Velma's life was shrouded in Death. By the time Velma was 46 years old, she had lost one husband to a house fire, another husband to heart failure, a boyfriend to a car crash, her father to lung cancer, her mother to the stomach virus, and her fiancé to the flu. On top of that, Velma worked as a nurse to the elderly, and she lost three patients that she cared for. But it was soon revealed that Velma might not be as innocent as she seemed. Listen to this week's episode as Zoey shares the full details of how Velma turned from sympathetic nurse to being a prisoner on death row.But first, robin tells us about Arizona's Red Ghost for her something spooky.Sources: https://hauntedhospitality.wordpress.com/2022/12/20/ep-90-death-follows-velma-barfield/Visit us on Social Media! I had Avery Monsen on to discuss his newest book, "I Am The Longest Dog". Be sure to also check out his previous book, "All My Friends Are Dead". (Theme song by Honor Nezzo)
Avery Monsen (author of "All My Friends Are Dead") wrote a new children's book called "I Am The Longest Dog." Now he has to figure out how to promote the book so people know about it and maybe, just maybe, will also buy it. We talk about how it feels gross to have to promote something at all, and trying to tackle it as a problem to be solved analytically, while struggling to come to terms with the reality that the success of any piece of art is outside of the control of its original creator. I bring up my own experience publishing and then trying to promote a book. "I Am The Longest Dog" is out now: https://bookshop.org/books/i-am-the-longest-dog/9781368053211

This week, Steve and Nadia talk with actor and author Avery Monsen (@averymonsen) about the specific topic of the Pepper's ghost effect, We get into the origins of this magical illusion, the history behind it (naughty sisters are to blame!), and where you can find a Pepper's ghost in real life. Is the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland actually one of them? Why isn't the Tupac hologram actually a hologram? And how did Avery pull off a magic trick on the pod?! Let's do this again some time!
The first step is admitting you have a problem. The second step is getting to level 120 of the mines. Keith and Jesse are joined by comedian Avery Monsen to talk about Stardew Valley and how sometimes too much of a good thing is a hilarious thing. Learn more about your ad choices. Magic is so stupid. It’s a sham and a hoax and only super sad and desperate people make a living doing it! That was really harsh. Sorry, I’ll backpedal a little bit. Magic is just like, not our thing. It’s some people’s thing! Like Avery Monsen for instance! He loves the stuff! Avery Monsen is an actor, author, and overall magic man livin’ in LA. On this episode of Comical Radio Classic, Danny Lobell and Chris Iacono are joined by Genevieve Joy on the third mic. The show starts off explaining the history of Chris and Gen’s complicated relationship. The first guest of the show is Avery Monsen who has written a few books including “All My Friends Are Dead” and “I Feel Relatively Neutral About NY.” If any listener was wondering, Avery cannot physically defend himself and does not wish to participate in a fight just to prove this. Danny shares a story of how when he was a teenager he was beat up by 30 eight year olds. The second guest was Mike Lawrence. Mike is a friend of Danny’s and Danny goes far enough to compare him to being the next Carlin. In high school he wasn’t allowed to attend prom, yet instead of going to his high school reunion next month he posted on a Facebook forum to let his classmates be aware of his success. Harrison Greenbaum was the third guest of the day. Harrison has been on an episode of TMI before, however the entirety of his visit was dedicated to Naturman proclaiming that Harrison must be gay--today there was none of that. Being a Harvard alum and a comedian aren’t the only things on his resume; he also doubles as a magician and magic camp counselor. Chris has been skeptical of magicians and magic tricks since the wee age of eleven. Oh and don’t forget, we have merchandise now...BUY OUR STICKERS!
