HAUNTER is a new force in alt-pop, born from sleepless nights, a desire for growth, and the connective power of music. The band traces its roots back to late 2016 when Enoma Asowata (guitars/synths) met producer/songwriter Tyler Smyth while pursuing DIY projects. The duo clicked musically and after several months of talks, Enoma sent Tyler some rough demos of songs he had written, wanting to do something different, challenging, and brutally honest. Lucy LeNoir (vocals) and Mark Schroeder (guitar) joined the group shortly after and the trio began writing and demoing new material reminiscent of their old emo and metalhead groups…and just as quickly scrapped it. The false start didn't hinder the band's momentum and the addition of Mike Ray (guitar/keys) solidified the group's musical dynamic. While writing and recording their debut single with Smyth at his LA studio, the band found their sound stemmed directly from their collective belief that music is akin to its ability to connect and heal people through shared experience – and from that, HAUNTER was born.HAUNTER - "Untouchable" NEW SINGLE OUT TODAY!!!!!!!Thanks for listening!!! Our guest today is Dr. Mark Schroeder of the Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis. Dr. Schroeder walks us through the different phases of the clinical trial process, how it can benefit patients, and how volunteers can help advance cancer treatment. We talk about interventional vs. non interventional studies, and how Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 of clinical trials function step by step. Depending on your diagnosis and prognosis, this explanation can help you decide which phase would be right for you or your loved one.Dr. Schroeder also breaks down some of the common misconceptions around clinical trials. This includes hesitation around placebo, the idea of being a "guinea pig," and the cost of treatment - which is often covered by the entities running the trial. Also, some folks believe that trial drugs are not as good as what's already been approved. This isn't true; by participating in a trial, you might gain early access to a therapy that provides better outcomes. We dig into how and why different studies are offered in different centers, and how to best navigate your way to finding a clinical trial appropriate for your situation. The best place to start is with your treating oncologist. Dr. Schroeder's area of focus is multiple myeloma. He speaks specifically to how clinical trials have advanced treatment for this particular type of cancer, specifically through CAR-T cell therapy and bispecific antibodies. We close with a story of one of Dr. Schroeder's patients, and the difference a clinical trial made for her.More:US Clinical Trials Website: https://clinicaltrials.gov/National Bone Marrow Transplant Link - (800) LINK-BMT, or (800) 546-5268.nbmtLINK Website: https://www.nbmtlink.org/nbmtLINK Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/nbmtLINKnbmtLINK YouTube Page can be found by clicking here.Thank you to this season's sponsors:Omeros Corporation: https://www.omeros.com/Incyte: https://www.incyte.com/

Some former emo kids & one metalhead started a pop band. Enoma Asowata (guitars/synths) had met producer/songwriter Tyler Smyth (Lights, I Prevail, Falling In Reverse) as so many musicians in the pop world of today do - while pursuing DIY projects during the Warped Tour era. The duo clicked musically, and after several months of talks, Enoma sent Tyler some rough demos of songs he had written. The idea behind all this was to do something different, challenging, and brutally honest. Vocalist/tattoo artist/chef/model Lucy LeNoir was added to the group later in the year, with bassist Mark Schroeder joining soon after, and the addition of Mike Ray (guitar / keys) solidified the group's musical dynamic. Writing and recording their debut single with Smyth (now a 2X Grammy nominated producer) at his LA studio, the band found that their “sound” stemmed directly from their collective belief that music is akin to love and its ability to connect and heal people through shared experience. HAUNTER pulls sonically from alt-pop and mainstream luminaries like Chvrches, Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift, Lights, PVRIS, Imagine Dragons, and CXLOE, while showcasing occasional appreciation for the guitar driven Emo/Pop Rock groups like Jimmy Eat World and The Maine. The group is dedicated to creating substantial, thoughtful, uncompromising Pop Music. Thank you for listening! According to the doxastic wrongs thesis, merely entertaining certain beliefs about others can wrong them, even if one does not act on those beliefs. Beliefs based on socially salient characteristics such as race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, etc., and which turn out to be false and are negatively valenced are prime candidates for the charge of doxastic wronging. My aim, in this paper, is to show that a plausible, Kantian argument for the thesis licences extending the latter to cases in which the belief is true and/or positively valenced. I begin by setting out the doxastic wrong thesis in its general form. I then reject Mark Schroeder's argument for restricting it to false beliefs, and mount a positive, Kantian argument for including true beliefs within the ambit of the thesis. I end the paper by tackling some objections, in the course of which I extend the thesis to further cases. A leading approach in ethics takes the reason as in some sense primary or basic. This approach claims that a range of moral concepts – goodness, rightness, obligation, and so on – are ultimately to be cashed out in terms of reasons. Although this approach is controversial among metaethicists, it is among the leading proposals in the field. However, a “reasons first” approach is generally absent in the neighboring normative discipline of epistemology. This is despite the fact that epistemology has had plenty of controversy about what is epistemically basic. In Reasons First (Oxford University Press 2021), Mark Schroeder develops a compelling version of reasons first epistemology, showing that epistemology has much to gain from adopting it. Robert Talisse is the W. Alton Jones Professor of Philosophy at Vanderbilt University.

The Conscience and Religious Freedom Division in the HHS Office for Civil Rights was established to ensure the federal enforcement of laws that exist to protect the fundamental rights of conscience and religious freedom. Both the Democratic Women’s Caucus and Secular Democrats of America are calling on Biden to end the division. Sixty female Democrat lawmakers penned a letter to Biden in December encouraging him to “use executive powers to immediately begin reversing the harm wrought by the outgoing administration…” on the list of their demands is the elimination of the Conscience and Religious Freedom Division of HHS, claiming that it “has been weaponized to justify discrimination.” First Liberty seeks conscience exemption Yesterday, First Liberty Institute sent a letter to the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) demanding that it immediately approve senior Marcail McBride’s request for a religious accommodation exempting her from the school’s student gender and sexuality program. IMSA requires students to complete the student gender and sexuality program before graduation. Students must agree to both “stay engaged” and “experience discomfort” while participating in the program, which uses sexual language to identify sexual preferences and gender identity. In November, Marcail’s parents notified IMSA leadership that Marcail could not participate in the program because it forces Marcail to violate her religious beliefs. The IMSA leadership repeatedly denied the McBride’s request and threatened to punish Marcail if she does not participate in the program. Court okays a Nativity Scene The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of a Nativity Scene displayed annually at the Jackson County Courthouse in Indiana. Liberty Counsel represents Jackson County. The Seventh Circuit ruled that the Nativity Scene is Constitutional under the Supreme Court’s recent decision in American Legion v. American Humanist Association, which upheld the Peace Cross in Maryland. The Seventh Circuit wrote, “applying American Legion, we conclude that the county’s Nativity Scene is Constitutional because it fits within a long national tradition of using the Nativity Scene in broader holiday displays to celebrate the origins of Christmas — a public holiday.

Persons as Things, and Treating like a child : Philosophical treatment of people and relationships Prof. Mark Schroeder is professor of philosophy at the University of Southern California. Can the fact that something is morally wrong to believe affect whether the evidence you have justifies that belief? In her paper, Georgi Gardiner argues that the answer is "no". We should follow the evidence where it leads and align our beliefs with the evidence. And if we do that, she argues, we’ll discover that morally wrong beliefs—such as racist beliefs--simply don’t align with the evidence. On this view, racist beliefs are irrational because they are unsupported by evidence or reflect cognitive errors in statistical reasoning, not because they are immoral. Links and Resources Georgi Gardiner (https://sites.google.com/site/georgigardiner/) The paper (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E10KHE0lGSlgyCJVSFr_YrqtFfCxwqG4/view) On the Epistemic Costs of Implicit Bias by Tamar Gendler (https://www.philosophy.rutgers.edu/joomlatools-files/docman-files/Gendler%20(2011)%20On%20the%20Epistemic%20Costs%20of%20Implicit%20Bias%20May%202011%20Phil%20Studies.pdf) Varieties of Moral Encroachment by Renée Jorgensen Bolinger (https://www.reneebolinger.com/uploads/1/0/2/6/102668958/varietiesofencroachment.pdf) Radical moral encroachment: The moral stakes of racist beliefs by Rima Basu (https://philpapers.org/archive/BASRME-2.pdf) Doxastic Wronging by Rima Basu & Mark Schroeder (https://philpapers.org/archive/BASDW.pdf) Beyond Accuracy: Epistemic Flaws with Statistical Generalizations by Jessie Munton (https://80a93457-7df3-471f-8728-538bb500333a.filesusr.com/ugd/131a85_e293fd8b510042e1a63022ca9b3011b9.pdf) Paper Quotes "Advocates of moral encroachment aim to describe a person whose beliefs are epistemically impeccable—well supported by the evidence and conscientiously considered—yet morally wrong because racist. My contention is that no such belief can exist. If a belief is morally wrong then there is some corresponding prior epistemic error. The belief is not well supported by the evidence and/or it is not interpreted through a morally appropriate understanding, and that understanding is not epistemically well supported. If a belief is epistemically well supported it cannot be racist since no true fact is genuinely racist. With the right background understanding we see that since everyone is equal, any differences based on gender, race, and so on are morally insignificant." Special Guest: Georgi Gardiner.
Two men committed a double murder in rural Maine in 1990. Only one pulled the trigger. The state prosecutor decided to try them separately, but that was a mistake, and both were acquitted. Then the Feds came in, and sentenced one man to life in prison for a crime he was already acquitted of doing. How is this possible in America? The answer is a loophole in criminal law. Today we examine that loophole by looking at the Thanksgiving Day murders in Maine, and the constitutional challenges this loophole has survived over the years. Guest voices include Sharon Mack, Gerald Leonard of Boston University Law, Judge Frederic Block, State Senator Todd Kaminsky, and Matthew Noah Smith of Northeastern University. In Slate Plus, Barry talks to Matthew Noah Smith of Northeastern University and Mark Schroeder of USC on whether John Rawl's distinction between procedural and substantive justice can help tell us whether and why the practice of sentencing on unconvicted conduct is just or unjust.
