Moses could get Israel to the Promised Land, but he couldn't get them in. To cross the Jordan, Israel needed a new leader with a familiar name: Joshua. Discover why the transition from the Law to Grace is the only way to claim your divine inheritance. Summary: In this episode, we study the Book of Joshua. We move beyond the battles and the trumpets to find the deep spiritual transformation required to stop wandering and start inheriting. Filling the Shoes of a Giant: We analyze the transition from Moses to Joshua—and from Peter to Jesus—exploring how God stays with the successor just as He was with the predecessor. Crossing the Jordan: We look at the "dry ground" miracle at the Jordan River and how the priests had to step into the water before it parted. Strange Strategies: We discuss the "foolish" tactics used at Jericho. Why does God ask us to do small and simple things—like family prayer or scripture study—that seem unrelated to the "walls" we are trying to bring down? The Valley of Achor: We look at the cautionary tale of Achan and how "one man's sin" can affect an entire community, and how God turns our "valleys of trouble" into "doors of hope." Choose You This Day: We conclude with Joshua's final plea at Shechem. We learn that our obedience lasts only as long as our memory, and why we must choose—every single day—whom we will serve. Call-to-Action: Joshua told the people that the stones of the altar had "heard" their promises. What "witnesses" have you set up in your life to remind you of your covenants? Scott Esplin reflects on Joshua's calling to succeed Moses and the Lord's promise, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.” This essay explores how faith in God's constancy helps us move beyond comparison and find courage in our own callings.

“And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming. So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.”- Joshua 14:10-12 ESV
“When the circumcising of the whole nation was finished, they remained in their places in the camp until they were healed. And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” And so the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day.”- Joshua 5:8-9 ESV

Fr. Mike offers us different ways we can interpret the miracle of the sun standing still in Joshua 10, and also reminds us that God always desires unity for us even though we often face war and division in this world. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
Fr. Mike expands on the significance of establishing a covenant relationship, and how the trickery of the Gibeonites can represent the desire to enter into a relationship with God out of fear rather than out of love. Today's readings are Joshua 8-9, and Psalm 126. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
Fr. Mike explains the meaning of circumcision for Israel's relationship with God. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
Congratulations on completing the Desert Wanderings period! Jeff Cavins joins Fr. Mike to introduce the fifth biblical period, Conquest and Judges. They discuss the trials the Israelites face as they enter the Promised Land. We learn that the book of Joshua and the book of Judges are characterized by Israel's unfaithfulness, destruction, and repentance. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
As we begin our reading of the book Joshua, Fr. Mike draws our attention to God's power as he parts the waters of the Jordan river, allowing the Israelites to walk across on dry land. We learn that following God often requires great courage and trust. Today's readings are Joshua 1-4, and Psalm 123. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. “The greatest strategy of the enemy is convincing us he's not there. But the Bible makes it clear—we have a real enemy with real schemes. In this week's message from Joshua, we unpack how spiritual battles are often hidden beneath what we see. The good news? Truth exposes every lie, and in Christ, we have everything we need to overcome.”

Sometimes we think the greatest threats to our faith come from outside pressures or difficult circumstances. But Scripture shows us that the enemy often works by distracting us from the voice of God. In this week's message from Book of Joshua chapter 1, Joshua is reminded that the key to courage and success is simple: listen to God and do what he says. As Joshua receives his assignment and leads the people forward, we see that listening to God unlocks the identity, promises, and empowerment the enemy wants to steal. When we learn to listen—and obey—we begin to live fully in what God has already given us.
In this Bible Story, Joshua leads God’s people through the Jordan river. With hope rising in the people, a confidence, given by God, is rising in the heart of Joshua. So Joshua leads the people to the bank of the Jordan river and instructs the Levites to go before them into the river carrying the Ark of the Covenant, the moment their feet enter the Jordan, the waters part, and Israel is led across the river on dry land just like they were years ago under Moses.Hear the Bible come to life as Pastor Jack Graham leads you through the official BibleinaYear.com podcast. Spiritual warfare is often misunderstood as something dramatic or distant, but Scripture shows that the real battle often begins much deeper—in our understanding of God and our identity in Christ. In this week's message kicking off a new series in the book of Joshua, the focus is on a truth the enemy would rather believers ignore: we must live by the wisdom and revelation the Holy Spirit gives. Looking at Joshua's life and Paul's prayer in Ephesians 1, we see that God doesn't just want us to know about Him—He wants His truth to become an unshakable reality in us. When believers linger in God's presence and walk in obedience to what He reveals, our identity in Christ becomes secure, our faith grows stronger, and we begin to live with confidence in the power God has placed within us.
