Originally streamed in the Hip Hop Heads Facebook Group on June 17th, my friend Chris Patton (DJ Cicero) and I had a chat about what’s been going on in hip hop for 2019 thus far. (36:24) DJ Khaled - Father of Asahd Yinka's bored with glorified karaoke singers; debate on musicality vs merchandising; praise for 'Higher' and 'Big Boy Talk', Outlaw can no longer predict hits; DJ Khaled salty with not reaching #1; misuse of Buju Banton's talent. (46:15) Megan Thee Stallion - Fever Outlaw fucks with the album, but doesn't see Megan as a stallion; praise for the studio quality of the album; Megan can flow; appreciate the contributions of Juicy J and Project Pat; more women finding a lane for themselves. (54:01) Anderson .Paak - Ventura Ventura was the best album of the quarter, water is wet; praise for 'Make it Better', 'Jet Black', and 'Come Home'; 'Reachin 2 Much' resonates with Outlaw who admits to his shortcomings as a boyfriend; Anderson .Paak is very relatable while being amorphous, and connects really well with the mature generation. (1:10:40) Schoolboy Q - Crash Talk Yinka's disappointed with the project despite being a Q fan; praise for 'Attention'; 'Water' a surprise hit; appreciate that DJ Premier's getting sampled in 2019. (1:14:04) 2 Chainz - Rap or Go to the League Outlaw had high expectations but was disappointed, citing lazy lyrics; debate on LeBron James as an executive producer. (1:19:59) Tyler, the Creator - Igor Praise for the music production of the album, but Outlaw is absolutely disgusted with the vocals. (1:23:25) Logic - Confessions of a Dangerous Mind Yinka opted out, but Outlaw was pleasantly surprised; praise for 6ix production; praise for features including Eminem, Gucci Mane and Will Smith; debate on Logic's image problem; online petition to revoke Logic's N-Word pass; Outlaw ironically shades a fellow mixed person; debate on deep seeded insecurities and succumbing to external pressures.
