As a designer, breaking into the fashion industry can be challenging even when you have the best connections. Success requires grit, determination, resilience, and the ability to keep getting back up after failures and setbacks. Just ask Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger, Founder & Creative Director of Dee Ocleppo and Creative Director of Judith Leiber. Although Dee lovingly refers to herself as Mrs. Hilfiger and is married to fashion icon Tommy Hilfiger, Dee has still had to work just as hard in the fashion world to make a name for herself. Dee started her career as a model and after meeting Tommy he encouraged her to try her hand as a fashion designer. Since then, she has created many things, including a handbag line she sold to Kate Spade and her namesake brand which includes handbags, a shoe line (soon to be retired), and her recently launched clothing line. Dee also serves as creative director for iconic legacy brand Judith Leiber and has had major viral moments with the brand's revitalization. While Dee is currently going through a transitional phase of letting go in order to make way for new growth, she has learned to remain patient and knows that if one thing doesn't work out, another will. On this Flight of The Retail Pilot Ken speaks with LEGEND, Tommy Hilfiger, Principal Designer, Tommy Hilfiger Global.Uplifting and inspiring consumers since 1985, Tommy Hilfiger has pioneered one of the world's most recognized premium lifestyle brands. With Hilfiger's vision and leadership as Principal Designer, his eponymous brand celebrates the essence of classic American style with a modern twist. Tommy Hilfiger offers premium quality and value to consumers worldwide under the TOMMY HILFIGER and TOMMY JEANS lifestyles, with a breadth of collections including men's, women's and kids' sportswear, denim, accessories, and footwear.Hilfiger's career in fashion began when he was a high school student in 1969 — opening his first store, People's Place, in his hometown of Elmira, New York. A decade later, he moved to Manhattan to pursue a career in fashion design, before launching his namesake brand with a single menswear collection. Since then, global retail sales of TOMMY HILFIGER products have grown to reach approximately $9.1 billion in 2022, powered by more than 16,000 associates worldwide — present in 100 countries and more than 2,000 retail stores, including its largest global flagship store at tommy.com.Hilfiger has a longstanding passion for philanthropy and making the world a better place for future generations. Through the global TommyCares organization, the brand supports various international initiatives and charities like Save the Children, the World Wildlife Fund and Fashion Minority Alliance. Hilfiger currently sits on the Board of Next for Autism. Through the Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Frontier Challenge and People's Place Program, the brand is also making strides in its ambitious vision to create fashion that Wastes Nothing and Welcomes All – which actively focuses on topics such as social and environmental sustainability, diversity, and inclusivity in fashion and beyond.Diverse achievements in business and fashion have earned Hilfiger numerous distinguished awards including the CFDA's prestigious Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012, British GQ's Design Legend of the Year in 2020, BFC's Outstanding Achievement Award in 2021 and WWD's John B. Fairchild Honor for Lifetime Achievement in 2022. Hilfiger's life and career have been chronicled in his memoir, American Dreamer, published in November 2016 — reflecting his experiences in the fashion industry from the last 35-plus years. Recounting his early childhood and formative years, it explores the setbacks, triumphs, and sheer determination that drove him to build a multi-billion-dollar global brand.Key takeaways from this interview include:Tommy Hilfiger's Background: Tommy Hilfiger began his journey in retail and design at a young age, starting his own business at 18 years old by opening a retail store -People's Place - selling jeans in 1969. This venture eventually led him to designing and creating products for his stores, culminating in the establishment of his own brand.Innovative Store Concepts: Hilfiger's early stores, particularly People's Place, were not just retail outlets but cultural hubs influenced by music and fashion. They offered a variety of products, hosted band practices, and provided an immersive experience for customers, aligning with the youth culture of the time.Cultural Influences on Brand Identity: Hilfiger aimed to differentiate his brand from traditional preppy styles by infusing it with elements of music, particularly hip-hop, and embracing a more inclusive approach to fashion. This cultural fusion helped establish the personality of the Tommy Hilfiger brand.Disruptive Advertising Strategy: The Hangman ad campaign, conceived by advertising executive George Lois, was a bold and disruptive move that garnered attention for the brand. Despite initial criticism, the controversial campaign succeeded in sparking conversation and establishing Tommy Hilfiger as a distinctive player in the fashion industry.Strategic Partnerships and Growth: Strategic partnerships, such as those with Marjani International and later with Silas Chao and Lauren Stroll, played a crucial role in the brand's growth and expansion. These partnerships facilitated strategic decisions like expanding into Europe and launching successful product lines such as fragrances, contributing to the brand's success and eventual IPO.Archives and Relevance: Both Tommy Hilfiger and Karl Lagerfeld emphasized the importance of going back to fashion archives and making past designs relevant for today's market. This approach ensures a timeless appeal while staying fresh.Strategic Partnerships: The acquisition by Apex and subsequent sale to PVH provided strategic opportunities for Tommy Hilfiger's brand growth. Apex helped in repositioning the company, while PVH's ownership of other brands like Calvin Klein created synergies beneficial for both.Brand Positioning: The positioning of Tommy Hilfiger's brand differs between the US and Europe. Understanding regional customer preferences and pricing strategies is crucial for successful brand positioning.Design Process: Tommy Hilfiger's use of technology, such as 3D design, and the centralization of its design team in Europe contribute to a more efficient and precise design process. This enables faster response to market trends and ensures product quality.Marketing and Brand Communication: The brand utilizes a mix of influencer collaborations, celebrity endorsements, and unique marketing campaigns to amplify its brand message. Embracing digital technologies like augmented reality and exploring AI's potential are also part of the brand's forward-thinking approach to marketing.

She's opening up about her skincare struggles with type 2 rosacea -- and how it led her to launch a https://lacurcio.com/product-category/anti-aging/jaimie-hilfiger/ (skincare line), break into the beauty industry, and help others cultivate confidence through self-care. “Never be afraid to be yourself” is her mantra. In this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, Jaimie tells her story of early success, letting go of insecurities, and embracing inner and outer beauty.
this week we look back on the violent 2006 encounter between Axl Rose and Tommy Hilfiger that made the cover of the NY Post and was quickly forgotten about because, well, chances are there was something more important to worry about. Why is it none of the major (or minor) MMA organizations have sought to organize a rematch? Has no one explored the possibility that Hiliger -- secretly a fan of old-school rock journalism -- took exception to G'n'R's 1991 challenge to the music press powers that be, “Get In The Ring" (although it also took him 15 years to do something about it).

Ally Hilfiger is a multi-dimensional artist residing with her husband and daughter in Los Angeles, California. Ms. Hilfiger's Lyme disease journey began when she was bitten by a tick at the age of 7. Undiagnosed Lyme disease presented various physical and emotional challenges during her childhood, but it could not contain Ms. Hilfiger's artistic genius. She began a professional stage acting career at 13, produced an acclaimed film at 16, and created and starred in MTV's first reality tv program at 17. Her illness did force her to pause her career at 19 when psychiatric symptoms required an involuntary institutionalization. During her hospital stay, an enlightened doctor recognized her symptoms and diagnosed her with Lyme. After her diagnosis and early treatment, Ms. Hilfiger pursued artisan painting and built a successful fashion design company. Recently, she answered a call to dedicate her life and talents to help others heal from Lyme disease. The healing mission manifested in the publication of a widely read Lyme testimonial book. Today, she is one of the most active and thoughtful figures serving the Lyme disease community. If you would like to learn more about how Ally Hilfiger is dedicating her multi-dimensional artistic talents to helping end the suffering caused by Lyme disease, then tune in now!

Do you really need to shell out 300 bucks for a sweater or will one for a fraction of the price do? And if so, is the saved money better invested into a piece made by true, local craftsmanship, made to your specs, not to those of Mr. Hilfiger? These and other interesting aspects are investigated in this episode, based on the authors first hand transition.

Actor and musician Paul Greene defines his life by four essential qualities: fatherhood, fitness, faith, and family. No matter his current focus–the release of his album, “Freedom For Your Soul,” the writing of his paradigm-shifting parenting book, or the portrayal of Dr. Carson Shepherd for five seasons on the ratings-juggernaut Hallmark Channel series “When Calls the Heart”–he knows how to enjoy his most abundant life possible.Born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada, Greene was raised on a farm and learned first-hand the importance of faith, hard work, and family. Upon his high school graduation, he left for college on a volleyball scholarship, leading to Paul's discovery by renowned modeling agent, Kelly Streit. At the age of 18, he immediately became an international success in the modeling world due to being featured on dozens of magazine covers and representing blockbuster brands like Armani, Tommy, Men's Journal, Hilfiger, J. Crew, Men's Health, and many more.Throughout his 20s, Paul's emerging modeling career kept him active in the cities of New York, Paris, London, Milan, and Japan, while studying acting with Uta Hagen, Stella Adler, and Susan Batson to amplify his career. The creative call of acting directed him to move to Los Angeles, where Paul continued to book commercials and garnered success as a series regular and guest star on dozens of TV shows, including NCIS, CSI, The Newsroom, Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, and Bitten, to name a few. Coined the “Cary Grant” of the Hallmark Channel, with the current season 8 of When Calls the Heart, he has already gained significant acclaim, leading to starring roles in several films as a consistent presence on the network. When not working in his chosen field, Paul enjoys flying planes, riding motorcycles, making music, camping, and being a dad. He finds immense joy in helping others achieve their health and wellness goals. With a deep passion for music, he expresses his creativity by singing and songwriting. His crowning achievement has been the annual privilege of performing in a holiday benefit concert at Carnegie Hall. Paul, who lost his father to ALS, has also made a life-long commitment to raising funds and awareness for this and other socially responsible causes that are important to him. Paul lives in Los Angeles with his family.

Imagine suffering from range of ailments that totally controlled your childhood and then having a psychotic breakdown at 18 that led to institutionalization. For Ally Hilfiger, now in her 30s, that was the reality of the bulk of her childhood. When she was 7, Hilfiger was bitten by a tick, but not diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease until 19. For all those years in between, she had to deal with severe fatigue, joint pain, difficulty retaining information, fainting spells, shooting pains, migraines, and serious anxiety attacks. No one could figure out what was causing her physical and neurological complications. Finally her decreasing ability to process information and retrieve words increased her anxiety and led to a two-month psychotic episode. Desperate, her dad, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, had her taken to a mental institution. Listen to her unbelievable story as she climbs her way out from inpatient psychiatric ward to healing from Chronic Lyme. In 2016, she wrote her memoir, “Bite Me: How Lyme Disease Stole My Childhood, Made Me Crazy, and Almost Killed Me” and is now dedicated to educating the public on chronic Lyme disease.
